EvE is a sci-fi world simulator, not a spaceship flight simulator.

would have been nice not to have dumbed-down basic space physics, like having rockets on the backs of ships constantly on even when not changing speed and rapidly decelerating when engines are turned off, audible and firey explosions, etc.
would been more dark, cold and all round 'spacey' had they made space actually remotely close to obeying reality.
but then i guess a lot of people are already too dumb to realise there's no sound in space anyway.

Originally by: soldieroffortune 258 if it were, 1: asteroid belts wouldnt be as small as they are, asteroid belts is not a half ring of asteroids in the middle of nowhere, they stretch all around the solar system
2: no one would get out of orbit, ever 3: no sounds
that is all i can think of atm, i will be back to prove you wrong when i think of some more
lol jk, but you should be glad its not a space simulator, the reasons i posted are valid reasons, and there are many mroe reasons that we cant think of
Do you remember the tutorial with aurora ? She mentions that the sounds are generated and sent to your pod to help you while navigating and fighting . So they don't exist either in eve , they are digitally generated and sent to your pod. _____________________ Shelley Godfrey: Have you lost your mind!? In any case, I like Independence War 2 : Edge of Chaos's system; Newtonian at the push of a button, otherwise you can let the "autopilot" control things and make the ship feel more like an airplane, in that if you release the throttle button the ship slows down and then stop.
Of course, the IWar2:EOC engine displays thrusters realistically: your engines turn on as you accellerate, then turn off as you coast at a constant speed, and if you break or change your attitude, reverse and stabilizer thrusters are displayed realistically.
Nice game. Old, but nice.
I loved tht game! EVE reminded me of it when I joined.
It also had pirates! Actually, you were one!
That game was awesome. What I want is a MMORPG with that kind of combat. - - - -

The real issue is this 'max speed' concept. It's already been explained Somewhere that the 'warp drive's' inertial ability act as an inertia 'sink' and thus you're ship cannot coast..
But even then, can you imagine eve without max velocity? 'Well sir I'd like to call that afk battleship primary, but he's been accelerating since downtime and is now doing 5000km/s'

As other people have said the other mmos out aren't medieval simulations either. Aside from the magic spells and weaponry, no one uses propper forms, no one dies in one cut, no one cuts properly, and people are in no way punished by jumping in combat. It doesn't need to be a space sim, it's an mmo.

Having said that... I would have no problems paying three time the amount required for Eve Online for a TTL space simulation. That would involve running on a real world physics system that would not leave the player feeling like her or she is the victim of programming circumstances.
That alone(TTL space sim), would make the game worth every bit of the costs involved:
The thrill of actually docking(skillfully) or else... Calculating trajectories. Where piloting skills are actually reflected by a pilots ability to pilot his or her craft. Cockpit with assignable controls/keys that would allow pilots to fly and operate there crafts efficiently according to there own capabilities. Laws that are attached to real penalties(grounding) to discourage lawlessness in governed space. The list and possibilities are endless...
Though I do like Eve-Online for what it is, I wouldn't think twice of paying a premium for a TTL space simulation.

No doubt, a true space simulation would be very very fun. I'd pay big money for a successful one but still, Eve is the best game in the world in my opinion so it's fine as is for now and possibly many years to come. :)

Originally by: El'Niaga The main physical difference is that space in EVE is the equivalent of moving through a viscous liquid like oil instead of the vacuum of space.
It could be programmed to move in that way but keep in mind it would really change the dynamics of the game, in fact no space game that I've seen really duplicates space in a real sense nor do movies. (Those hairpin turns you see in Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica are not possible in real space with the way those ships are designed....)
In BSG it MAY be possible...at least they show the thrusters required to move like that unlike most other sci-fi..

Not really. Some people are intelligent enough to know that simply 'being in space' does not preclude sound. If a sodding great artillery gun attached to your ship lets one off you will hear it. Granted you are unlikely to hear the remote explosions but you will hear a lot of sound coming from your own ship and equipment.
