Edited by: Tassi on 07/08/2008 18:15:58 So, fact is you are completely ignoring these facts:
1. Maelstrom is superior when roaming low sec (piracy) 2. Maelstrom is superior when roaming 0.0 (outside your home-region) 3. Maelstrom is superior when you meet weak ships with high dps, which you can eliminate and thus lessen the dps to a value where it is tankable again
You know there are people who do piracy and 0.0 roaming?!

Maelstrom is probably superior for low sec piracy, ill give you that.
But roaming? I don't see why it would be a good ship roaming. Unless you mean its just better than the abaddon, and that I can see.

Haha, that's awesome. Same dps from MUCH shorter range and both cap out only when their cap boosters die.
Illustrates the point very nicely.

I didn't see you post convincing evidence, try again? BTW, me quoting your post and saying "blabber" means you didn't make valid points or view it as a whole, try again.

I don't see where you think gang DPS is that low. Let's say you have a fairly standard lowsec gang. 2 BS, battlecruiser, cruiser (lols), inty.
2 BS will do anywhere from 1k to 2.5k DPS depending on tank/range. I'll call it 1500 for giggles. BC will probably average 500-700 DPS. 600. Cruiser will do around 300-500. 400. Inty - negligable.
2500 DPS... sure, you can take out the cruiser fairly easily, and the BC DPS is low so it'll probably be buffered, and then you're stuck with 1500 DP... oh wait, you're entering hull damage.

Erm... fail?
Maelstrom superior when roaming in lowsec. Well... when I lowsec roam, I do it in my plated gank mega - after all, all I have to do is carry around an LAR 2 in my cargohold (20m3 or so) and i can rep back up after any fights. And i have yet to have multiple fights in the 15minutes before GCC expires. Of course, if you a really bad piwat, you don't have this option, but thats why -10 is bad m'kay?
Maelstrom is superior when roaming 0.0. Well... when I roam 0.0, the only time I use a battleship is in remote rep gangs. At which point active tanking == waste. Solo battleship in 0.0? That sounds like a deathtrap as soon as the first nano gang comes along, and last I heard those were rather common out in 0.0. Small gang? Meet mr. blob, who you can't outrun, because you're in slowass battleships.
Maelsrom is superior when you meet weak ships with high dps, which you can eliminate and thus lessen the dps to a value where it is tankable again. Do you then stop at that point? Not eliminate anymore ships? Personally, I like to kill ALL my opponents... i hear it drops dps on you down to 0.
Quite frankly, I see no reason at all to fly a minmatar battleship (any of them) when you can fly another races battleship with at least lvl 3 skills. If you can t2 fit another races battleship, by all means go for that, unless of course you're just out for the lols...

Clearing brush... bloody catcuses all around with tiny needles that camouflage against their "seed pod" thing. They're about an inch long and orange - got about 100 in my leg, at which point blonde hair = oh damn. Had to come in to take 'em all out, so I got a little bit of time to check on my post.

Well I think it sort of depends. With autocannons or pulse lasers, you're going to want your long range t2 ammo because it's just secksie. With other guns, it can make less of a difference. I agree with you Mr. Turtle that a BS with named guns and a good fit can still put out nice damage, can still kill people and can still win fights. But, I think what people are saying when they say you need t2 guns is that you are handicapped when your guns have a good t2 ammo that you can't use. Typically, this means less damage at range, but that can make or break some encounters. BS with named guns certainly aren't useless, but it is a bit like fighting with one arm tied behind your back, haha.

I tell people to get t2 guns before using a BS in pvp for 2 reasons.
1. Long range ammo. Really. It's sexy, own and a half. Probably doesnt make a huge difference once gang numbers get up there though. 2. Support. Chances are if you haven't trained xxxxx turret 5, your support skills aren't all that great either. If you already have 8m in gunnery, then obviously it doesn't matter as much. I still won't take a megapulse abaddon into pvp until I get t2 guns, but that's just my preference. It's split between costs and t2 ammo.

Also, hi again, Amandin. This seems to be the way we meet, huh?
I'd go with the Abaddon, yes. Even though your lowslot setup suxxors. It slows the ship down when it actually needs to determine the distance to the Mael, doesn't help with the powergrid issues, and neglects an armor repairer and more potential resists. What are you thinking?!
Also, since that seems to be the damn way things should work, somehow, slap on a cap booster for the Abaddon.

It's compound. A mixture of both active tank failure and projectile failure.

Projectile failure goes more together with artillery than it does with autocannons, but even the latter have some issues, yes. The simple answer? Just increase their range. Not their power.
Well, that's the simple answer, at least...
