If you're going to turn Crime and Punishment into a carebear whine zone, then you'll need to give pirates their own forum to live in.
I hereby suggest "The Yarr Bar".

Edited by: Kerfira on 15/08/2008 21:03:10 Am I the only one who compares this to a government reshuffle?
When a government haven't done anything useful for a while and things are going downhill they either pull their act together and start doing their job, or they do a reshuffle to look efficient.
The groups we have right now might not be 100% optimal, but they're at least 90% there and nobody among the fanbase see any real issue there.
CCP should probably look at the severe problems with the forum that people have pointed out over the last years instead of this meaningless shuffling around of titles....
EDIT: I never read the Tech Lab forum, but people have provided ample reason why it should stay.

Originally by: Cyrus Ageis OK, my request for if you're cleaning this up. Just my own little pet peeve:
"EVE Information Center * EVE Information Portal All the latest news, announcements and archives from the EVE Online development team. This forum is community reply only; players may not create new threads."
I check here daily for what's-what with the going on's of Eve from a company stand point of announcements vital to game play. Nothing against CCP Abraxas, but, I don't feel that his "New Chronicle:" series, or ANY Dev created fiction, belongs here. Move it to "EVE Fiction".
Sorry, but, just because it's Dev started or Dev related does NOT mean it should automatically go into the Information Portal. Hell, give them their own sub-section of Fiction, but please, leave important information in the Information Center, and move the fluff somewhere else, M'Kay?
I don't neccessicarily agree on the relitive importance of Chronicles, but I might support such a move if only because it might bring more traffic to the Eve Fiction nee Library section.

Edited by: Komen on 17/08/2008 23:41:18 Posting again, as upon reflection, the given explanation of 'this will mean less scrolling' is...well...bull *****.
This is a non-starter, especially when you're removing one of the most useful forums, and merging others that don't share common topics, or are in fact antithetical in topic.
Please please please please PLEASE rethink these changes.

Originally by: Hel O'Ween OK, which other forum should be used for API related questions from that point on? EVE Tech Lab was the de facto EVE API forum. None of the remaining forums do seem to be appropriated for API questions (judging from their descriptions).
Don't you get CCP's hint? They fired guy that made API and now they just want API to die and stop hogging their resources.

The 'less scrolling' line made me laugh, I have to admit.
As others have said, there seems to be a lack of understanding, in regards to the forum. Calling CAOD an 'in-character' section, being one of them.
Am I the only one who feels, this is just another, in a long line of lack of understandings?

No. The guy who did the API left to do other stuff. He wasn't fired. They even have a new API dev. |

Just read the dev blog. Why are you (CCP) spending so much time fixing everything that's not broke about the forums, when there are SO MANY problems that really need to be fixed, for example, the lack of a useful search function. Get the forum software up to the level where it's at least comparable to free open-source forum software, then start worrying about the details. |

Edited by: Breathing on 21/08/2008 15:51:18 Good point. Make the search function useful before you start re-organising things.
I can just see some bumbling old fart in his flat who moves the furniture around for no apparent reason every few months just to give himself something to do....
Also would be good to know what the OP thinks about the questions raised. Most of the comments left have been along similar lines, and constructive / valid and it would only take a couple minutes to reply. |

Have you ever thought of making CAOD roleplay only like the Intergalactic Summit area? Personally I don't use either, but I think I'd at least read CAOD, and therefore take an interest in what's going on in the various wars of EVE, if it weren't for the extraordinary amount of utter nonsense that people post in it. It's like what I imagine Warcraft forums to be like in there, filled with kids and pinheads.
I would have thought making it roleplay only would filter out a lot of the garbage. |

Please don't remove the useful gathering place for 3rd Party API that is the Eve Technology forum. At least rename/move it to something like "EVE API Development" or something like that.

That seems to be what they're doing. However, while a great idea in principal, I'd love to encourage all the big alliances to become RPers, I don't think it will work, because well . . . most people the play online RPGs aren't so into the whole 'role-play' part of the game, even if that's kinda the point. Which is sad, really, and sometimes annoying, but hey, that's life, and in all honesty, to make a commercial success out of a game like Eve, you can't restrict membership to only RPers, so . . . I don't see how this would be particular enforceable without either (a) ****ing off the majority of the customer base, or (b) totally devaluing most any sort of standards for RP. Given that CCP is a business, I have a feeling which one they would (quite justifiably) choose.
I'd love to see COAD become IC-only, and even more love to see everyone in the game magically turn into RPers, but . . . I don't think that's gonna to work. ________________________________ This is not a signature. |

Removing the EVE Technology Lab is a huge mistake. If you really want to remove useless forums, remove the Council of Stellar Management. That has to be the most useless section on the forums. Also, making COAD in character is pointless. Who gets to decide when someone isn't in character? Its going to be a moderator nightmare trying to filter it and right now, it seems moderation is inefficient. Most of us really don't care if a signature is doesn't conform to the exact dimensions and size. I would rather see moderators waste there time removing off topic post and inappropriate content. |

Another post in support of keeping the Tech lab, those little API applications make up an important part of my EVE playing time, they contribute to such an extent that they're part of the game, and a part that I'm very grateful for.
It seems to me that that small community devoting themselves to improving the game that I enjoy for free should be nurtured, encouraged and supported - they make your game better at minimal cost to yourselves, don't take away their forum.
Even if the only posters were three guys and a cat I'd be in favour of keeping it. And more cat food. |

Its been over two weeks since the initial announcement that the forums will be updated in 2 weeks time.
Understandably there are issues that need ironing out, before the majority of forum goers are happy.
But please can CCP give us a new target date, of when the forum changes will be rolled out.
I'm sure there's a lot of us looking forward to the Warfare and Tactics forum! ...or perhaps just add these new forums before removing the old ones!!

Hmm.. I don't see major improvements in the way the forums work.
Seriously, there's one major thing regarding the forums that needs to be changed and upgraded, which never gets attention:
THE SEARCH!!
It's just not usable at all! If you'd implement a search capable of finding what you actually want to find, I guess you'd make alot of players happy :) ----------
