In the next few weeks our forum will undergo the same refining process that turns Veldspar into Tritanium. These changes will bring new additions, subtractions, mergers and more; you can read all about it in my first dev blog, Forums Refined. We hope these changes make it easier to use, browse, and enjoy our forum.

OK, which other forum should be used for API related questions from that point on? EVE Tech Lab was the de facto EVE API forum. None of the remaining forums do seem to be appropriated for API questions (judging from their descriptions). -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |

Looks good. It'll be interesting to see how it will affect discussion. I know, at the very least, that it will stop all the CAOD whining about FW topics.
Oh, and it will be interesting to see what happens when Dark Shikari returns and tries to figure out where things are. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

Hopefully not the exact same process. Turning Veldspar into Tritanium always results in loss of Tritanium, regardless of how good the facilities are, or how mad the skills.
It would be nice if you guys re-organize the Information Portal forum: between the stickyfied posts and the posts with lots of replies and on-going discussion, it's difficult to find the new announcements or figure out what's new and what's old news. It would be nice if that forum got sorted by the date of the original (dev) post, rather than the date of the last (player) reply, but that's probably not possible.

Also for data dump questions and the like. "EVE Technology Lab" has basically become the hangout for all of us "third-party developers" to hang out and swap ideas on using the API, data dumps, and occasionally the cache to do cool things. |

Should we take this as an indication that EVE TV and the Championship tournaments have been discontinued?
This is a very active section when the tournament is on, and there really is no other section on your new list that is suitable....

QFT
Bad Bad Bad decision on CCPs part. API is GROWING and needs the support of these forums to continue. If you start pushing API and tech related threads that are, you know, useful, into other forums they will be swamped by the general trash that exists everywhere else. Combine that with the uselessness of the search feature and it makes everyone's lives harder. Keep the forum, put it at the bottom or the tech area, and support 3rd party endeavors. ------

QFT on the QFT. This really, really needs reconsidering. Archives of techlab discussions are invaluable to 3rd party developers and artists, amongst other parties. Pushing 3rd party devs to a 3rd party forum is hardly going to breed discussion between CCP and 3rd party devs- a rift that appears to be growing rapidly, not shrinking. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer ISKsense | RLS-EVE | Blog |

And a BIG no to merging "Events" with "Player Gatherings and Events". Merging ingame events with out of game stuff... Just... Dont. Those two sides needs to be kept seperate.
Would you even contemplate merging "Out of Pod Experience" with "EVE General Discussion"? I think not.
Not to mention that we arent excactly swimming in ingame related events, now you want them to drown betweeen of all things out of game player gatherings????
Please dont cross that line... (mixing ingame with out of game stuff)

Edited by: DubanFP on 12/08/2008 17:08:51 The new Crime & punishment description
Crime & Punishment Warn others of the latest scam, hire a mercenary to seek revenge or brag about your kills. This is the place to discuss the criminal elements of EVE.
Whoever wrote that probably isn't very active on the C&P forums. C&P is made up almost entirely of pirates, criminals, scammers and warriors. There's some anti-piracy and anti-scam but that's a very small portion of it. It's written from a "carebear" perspective and puts too much emphasis on the punishment side.
It needs to be more true to its community and start on the Crime side with a little bit of punishment. Carebear newbies are going to walk in, whine, and then get flamed to hell. The description should be more direct about it. Maybe something like
Crime & Punishment Piracy, scams, mercenaries, and more. Carebears beware; C&P invokes the dark side of EVE's nature _______________

I just want to reiterate what others have stated in that getting rid of the Eve Technology Lab is a really bad idea. Although the thread count isn't all that great, the information it (already) contains within is invaluable to 3rd party developers. It also gives people a place to look for help and advice on the API, data exports and Eve based tools.
Looking through the new layout, I fail to see anywhere appropriate for such threads to go - there's nowhere in the "Eve Technology" section and I'm sure we don't want to be posting in the swamp that will soon become "My Eve".
Whoever thought of this change, could you please give serious consideration in leaving the Eve Technology Lab as it is?

So where the hell is EVE Tech Lab stuff going to go? are they just writing off any interaction with 3rd party developers?

EVE Tech Lab is the only forum I read, it's invaluable in developing third party tools, finding out about other people's tools, making use of the API, and the data export, all of which contribute hugely to the large number of exceptional fansites that EVE has.
Removing this community or causing it to splinter into a number of non-official forums is a mind-bogglingly stupid decision, please reconsider it, or at the least give us an explanation that makes sense regarding its removal, one that we can understand: that there is a sane business reason why removing the forum is worth the damage it will do to an enthusiastic and creative part of your playerbase, who invest their time (and money, given we pay to host sites) to promote and accompany your game.
I find myself quite quite bemused by this decision, I'm just hoping the decision has been made in error.

This. Are you going to kill most used first-hand information source about API programming? Have you consulted with brain when doing this removal? Or does that means CCP will discontinue API support at all? -- Thanks CCP for cu |
