One has to ask if one of the devs gave their two weeks notice recently as this mission is just god aweful.
Level 4 Mission Lp pay 840
The mission spawns wave after wave of frigates and throws in the eventual cruiser spawn. What you would expect to last only 15 minutes can easyly last a half hour or more. While the rats likely wont break your tank, depending on what sort it is there are just so many of these that I have to wonder how well a lower end machine will fair.
Whats worse is that even though you warp right in you do not have the option to set your warp distance, making sniping the ships impossable.
On the other hand if one is willing too or has the means, a smart bomb, or several, seems to be the likely only effective way to clear the mission within the bonus time, however given the crap pay, LP and fact that at most you will only deal with cruisers at certain stages, I would just say pass this one over.
I would honestly like to know why this mission was released as I seriously question its existance when you consider the Need for Speed initiative, surely a mission that spawns wave after wave of dozens of frigates will generate a ton of salvage trash that the server will then need to track and thus cause more and more lag. |

OFFS, the rewards are not set in stone, they are dynamic wait a few weeks and they will change.
Seriously, its not even n00bs who are complaining, do you all have some sort of memory loss caused by grinding AE4 for weeks on end ? Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

If the mission is as depicted the loot and salvage part will stay bad even after the rewards adjust. Similarly the average frigate bounty is very low.
If they are really a in a so large quantity that they can be dangerous for a low tank BS it seem the usual gift for drake pilots.
Set up a good tank, warp to mission, lock frigates and fire missiles. Missiles have no problem with tracking or range and mission frigates are too slow to give problems to the missiles. If they are Guristas use F.O.F. missiles.
BS and even BC gun user will have trouble with tracking at short range, drones will be targeted by the next wave.

NEVER TAKE THIS MISSION if you fly battleship(especialy gun ship). This mission contains about 80 frigates, and about third are hard to kill(bounty 20k+) ones. Spawns after trigers = hard life for drones.
I didnt make bonus payment cause it was 40min and mision takes me 42. So i got payment 150k + 300LP. I can fly Worlds Collide in this time......
Someone was really drunken when puting this mission under lvl4.
Im sorry, but i dont think this is the right way of making new lvl4 missions... we want to shot down lot of bs not hundreds frigates. We fly battleships to lvl4 missions, not destroyers.
Wow, 1.600.000 in bounties for 80 kills, wonderful. Q.E.D.

Not much different from a drake: I am getting a bit feed up with the "good for missile spamming shield tanking ships, good for all" missions. Caldari ships getting an advantage in most mission, ok. Caldari ships being "The Solution" for 90% of them is a bit wrong.

If there is no battleships then Cerberus with assault launchers (with light missiles) might be one of the most effective platforms to do it fast. Perhaps even with FoF lights if there is no structures present and you get sick of targetting 80 frigs.

Jacob must not have played the entire mission. Eventually there's waves of BC's and AF's as well, and as there is no clear spawn triggers (the ships are simply called "angel frigate", "angel cruiser" etc.) it is real easy to spawn the waves so fast that the incomming damage is just about rediculous.
I'm still working on the mission, warping in and out while only being able to kill 3 or so BC's each time with my Berserker II's. My Domi has a darn good tank and I've done level 4's solo with it forever but this mission sure beats everything in terms of difficulty.
Yeah... next time I'm skipping this

This is one of the Faction war missions introduced back in june. It appears that many of the "new" missions that were promised in the patch are just re-flagging of Faction War agent missions to be avialable to any kill mission agent of that faction. Way to get our hopes up on new content CCP.

edit: If salvage thiefs are buggin' ya in the system, warping into this mission with a frig or even cruiser is sure to insta-kill them. So leave a whole bunch of wrecks as bait and sit by the station for while
edit 2: Sigh... finally done. There's almost 10 spawns (No I didn't precise count, I was too busy) beginning with frig's, then destroyers, cruisers, and then alternating af's and bc's. Last spawn is 5 BS's, but they're easy to tank compared to the rest.
I would use Warrior 2 for the initial clean up. They will be much faster than the zerkers & near invincible with good hard hitting skills like BS5 & DI5. Only let the zerkers loose when you get the battleships.
I tested this theory with new frontiers part 7 with a domi. The warriors just tore the attacking drones to shreds (not used this with mass frigates but I expect the same would happen). The secret with the Domi & drones is good drone skills & max drone interfacing & battleship 5.

I've got max drone interfacing and battleship 4, I started out with warriors and valkyries which tore through the frigs, destroyers and cruisers fast enough, but when the BC's and AF's start pouring in I had to switch to zerkers to keep some speed in killing them.
The problem isn't so much the speed of killing them, the problem is that my domi with 85% resist against both explosive and kinetic damage, 13,664 HP armor and a 1100HP per 11.25 second repper doesn't have time to stay longer then about 30 seconds of incoming damage.
Like I said there's a lack of a clear spawn trigger in each wave so keeping the drones on "agressive" and just kicking them out of the ship eventually got me in the same part of space as about 30 BC's and 20 AF's.
The best way I see this mission done is by concentrating on each wave seperately. First only kill the frigs, then only the destroyers and when the BC's and AF's come in wave after wave try to pick out only the wave you were already working on so you don't trigger the next one.
Still.... what a pain

I do like the last part to your question. I like how your mind works
Just smartie up your Dominix, fit a web and deploy sentries... anything in web range dies to either smartbombs of the sentries, the sentries track fine unaided at anything more than 8km. My sentries tank my smartbombs just fine, as long as I don't go overboard (and even so, hey, you can recall them)

Did the mission in my Ishtar yesterday, no problems tanking. If I didn't have to take the family to the beach I would have had no problems finishing before the bonus timed out either :)
Warrior II for small, Valkyrie II for medium and Ogre II (Dont have the Berserker II skill yet) for the last BS's.
I see there are several complaints that this is a "Caldari" mission, I did not have any problems doing this in a Gallente ship and I do not have especially good skills. The whole thing only cost me one Valkyrie II drone, I would say I had more than 10 mill income from this mission included salvage. Refreshing to get a totally different mission type from time to time.... also appreciate the Tritanium bars :)
Looking forward to do this mission again.

Just to add some balance to this - where is it written that <BS-fotm-fit> should be equally adept at every single mission in the game? People moan about missions being AFK-able and when they get one where they have to think about what's going on or - God forbid - actually change their fit to accommodate it, suddenly the sky is falling.
I'll probably decline this mission because short of sniping the frigates at range I wouldn't be able to hit them with my regular fit, and quite frankly I'm too lazy to change it. That said, there are L4 setups and ships (drone boats, etc) that would shine in this sort of mission so just stating "it's bad" isn't really looking at the bigger picture.
EDIT: Ok so maybe the drone boats have problems too due to the ambiguous triggers.

FOTM fit? Do you suggest i get Artillery (as ACs will get already flimsy tank overhelmed) Cane to go with the Apoc and Mega and Domi to do the misison when every moron has Raven and maybe Drake for better results? Or even better that I should train command ships for misisons, no even better, crosstrain command ships. Yes, AC Domi did it np with AB and movement control (yay for me keeping between falloff and tracking on double oversized guns vs insane swarm that could easily break me; and the drones ofc, but drones are only half of the ship).
This is Drake mission - load FoFs and orbit some wreck. Why do turret users have to crosstrain, field several ships and switch fits when Achura do it better faster and easier. I can bear with cruiser swarms in Amarr misisons as they encourage use of lasers but we already have so many things hampering turret use we do not need this crap.

Edited by: Loc Maythan on 08/09/2008 11:44:33 I didn't find this one difficult to tank - as observed by others, identify a wave and concentrate on those ships regardless of a new wave turning up. Yes, there is occasional overlap, and you may have to handle 3 waves at the same time, but most runners of level 4 missions shouldn't have a problem with that.
The number of ships is obviously a pain - when I finished there were 144 wrecks - however most of them go down pretty quickly - assault frigates and BS taking a bit longer - and they mostly orbit right on top of you. My drones had a great time, even if I found it somewhat tedious - I would prefer 20 BS at once rather than 144 assorted ships over time; something I actually have to be awake for ;-)
Was a little disappointed with the salvage - 13 ATBs from 144 wrecks compares badly with 40 ATBs from 100 wrecks (guestimate) in AE 4 (including bonus room) - probably because of the almost complete lack of BS in Buzzkill - 4 at the end. Mission rewards will increase with time.
However, my main disappointment was with the relative ease of the mission. I expect a certain level of difficulty from level 4s. Some existing level 4s are already laughable - Duo of Death, Serpentis Spies, Downing the Slavers, for example - and I'm not sure why they are even classed as level 4 - Duo of death is probably a level 2 at best. Buzzkill is not, in my opinion, worthy of level4ness at the moment - maybe if the spawns were time-based instead of trigger-based, it would be a bit more challenging - a new wave every 2 minutes would be exciting ;-)
As an aside, if I had my way, all level 4s would be in the AE 4 bonus room or Mordus Headhunters class - in fact, I would like to see current level 5s moved to, say, level 6, and a new class of level 5 mission being introduced with, say, 4 times the firepower of the 'best' level 4s. I want something to challenge the solo mission runner without the necessity of going into low sec (PvE vs PvP) or forming a large fleet which is not always practical.
I would also like to see a certain amount of randomness in missions - change the number and types of ships in spawns for example - so that I can't just 1) Warp in; 2) Go there; 3) Do this; 4) Collect that; 5) Go home.

I did this one for the first time a few days ago and I made some mistakes due to inexperience so I had to warp out. Here are some lessons.
Waves of enemies spawn from one place, roughly the point where you first warp in the mission. Once I moved to a safer place, 60-70 km away, I was able to handle new waves of aggro.
If you hit a trigger ship, kill the rest of them before switching over to the next wave to avoid hitting another trigger.
As I'm flying a Dominix, I am actually looking forward to doing that mission again. It's not too tricky and gives decent rewards.

Despite deciding to avoid this one until the rewards/salvage/fun improved, circumstances conspired against me - in other words, I was a victim of the "same mission being offered twice in a row" problem - note to CCP: please fix this one as you said you would.
Anyway, I had no choice - do Buzzkill or do nothing ... wait ... that's a choice ... um ... I didn't have much of a choice ;-)
Mission rewards have more or less reached a decent level - got 5,500LP for it which is close to my current highest of 6,000. Also found that the mission is a lot more fun if I just destroy things randomly in the hope of getting triggers - had 5 waves on me at one point, which is more the kind of thing I like, though I would prefer fewer, more powerful ships.
Loot was a bit better as well - 20 ATBs this time compared to 13 last time.
However, though it was better second time, it is still unbelievably tedious - as early as a third of the way through I was thinking "How much longer do I have to endure this?" not to mention not looking forward to salvaging.
I am still not sure quite what this mission is supposed to achieve - like Recon 3 or Duo of Death. You don't get that much in bounties, there's very little loot (most wrecks being empty), the salvage is relatively poor (I suppose this may change over time), there is little fun (unless you're the kind of person who likes being in a swarm of mosquitos), and practically no risk unless you introduce it yourself.
Won't be able to avoid this one all the time - as last night proved - but will continue to try.

Did this one last night for the first time. What a blast, a buddy of mine in a CNR, I'm in a Vargur. Knew enough about it from this thread so we were careful about spawn management. Refreshing change from 1 or 2 waves of BS's. Did feel sorry for the 3rd guy who joined us to salvage, he kept warping in as we were popping the triggers, he kept getting all the agro in his salvage destroyer.
This would be a great mission for corp training, its a good lesson in agro management, and yet lesser skilled players are actually in an advantageous position, as most of the rats are small enough that their weapon systems (small/medium) make them(new eve players) effective.
Yes, the salvage wasn't great, but its not supposed to be free ISK.
Its nice to have something like this occasionally, but I don't want just these small frig missions all the time.

i did this mission for the first time last night, fed intel +18 agent in auvergne. i fly a domi and it was fun, a real drones ftw mission, even tho it took a while. as for the bounties/loot: i recieved around 5mil in bounties and the salvage was inline with other angel lvl4's - 28 trit bars, 13 armour plates, 24 blc. the mission itself was worth over 2 mil with the rewards and 4900lp - so i dunno about other posts, maybe the agents you are using have a lousy rating to get such low rewards/loot/bounty.

This mission is fantastic. If one finds it difficult. No offence, but its not the missions problem, its the problem you have in the ship set up. i did this in a sniping maelstrom. From the start i engaged ABs and progressively reached a range of 70km from all the ships. After that i just locked and popped. It was great fun, kinda like clay pigeon shooting.

Slowly slid away from warp in at my stately 130m/s, and popped em as they arrived in range of my 800s - stopped about 50k from warp in and let them line up for the guns. Drones got those that passed.

Ran this for first time today.
No webbers, no scrammers, fixed spawn locations.
Just fit a turret-based sniper with an AB, fly out to range, and go POP POP POP POP.
Any other tactics, including droneboats, will complete this mission painfully slowly.
Only 6.56m total bounties, but max lp.
Only worth running if you can snipe it quickly in a high dps sniping fit. Elsewise, decline.

Yeah if you insist on using domi/ishtar, you'll need to fit an AB, let your light drones start killing the first wave while ab'ing away from warpin point (might be a good idea to bring along a single unit of trit to jetcan at warpin as sort of a guide as to how far out you should AB), then call the drones in when you're near your max targeting range from warpin, drop the sentries, and start sniping.
Turret-based sniper would be better though, as you'll then be able to assign 1-2 guns per frig and kill multiple frigs simultaneously.
If one insists on sticking around the warpin point, the DPS WILL get heavy. Some of the triggers spawn like 40+ ships at once right on top of you, including large numbers of BC's. These spawns will hurt up close.
As for my idea about the smartbombs earlier in this thread, well over half the frigs orbit outside of faction smartbomb range.

Originally by: Jacob Mei Whats worse is that even though you warp right in you do not have the option to set your warp distance, making sniping the ships impossable.
If this is a non-deadspace mission, what do you mean by that? Quite a lot of missions let you set the desired warpin distance - and then ignore it. But there are two possible workarounds. First; warp in in your pod or a shuttle and set a BM, redock and then warp to the BM at desired distance. Second (a bit trickier): Start warp and cancel as soon as the warpin message comes up, then restart the warp and you can then set your own distance. Or for real giggles, combine second and first in that order, warp in at 200km in a sniper-fit BS and start shooting - at which point anything to do with tracking problems goes away.
I've always thought that being a one-trick pony is no good for a mission runner. This is one reason why I disagree with all the people who don't like high-sec level 4s; to best cope with any mission thrown at you requires a large investment of time and ISK, because it requires a generalised skill set and more than one ship - considerably more than one, in fact.
I'll say one more thing; using smartbombs, in this mission in particular or any other no matter how tempting it is, particularly in highsec, is asking for trouble - of the "accidentally hitting a cloaked recon" sort. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

Took about an hour.
In a T2 720mm arty Hurricane.
Pop pop poppity pop...warped out twice-that was it.
It was sort of like playing Space Invaders .

I see alot of posts about not knowing the triggers..
I found out this is pretty simple..
when having the overview select it on name so it gets sorted alfabetically... then just make sure to keep 1 ship of every name alive.. then when you only have 1 ship of each name left you start popping one of them which will spawn a new wave.. kill the new wave bar 1 again and pick a new ship untill you don't get a spawn wave from poping a solo ship.. then move to another.
in short: Every last ship of it's namebearers will pop a wave up untill their last wave. ------- Always a deeply religious people, religion remains of great importance to every Amarrian, a fervour which at various times has been responsible both for great good and great evil. |

Ran this in myrm with light and mid drones... didnt take too long.
The key is to keep a ship alive from the previous spawn or two, this stops the angels from multiplying too much.
Lp reward was 5 or 6 thousand so you can attribute yours to your standings op!

Link, Cap recharger II's 2 x exp, 2 x kin armor hardener II's, 2 x large repper II's (only needed one), cap power relay II Drones: Valkyrie II's and Beserker I's My skillset is moderate at 6.5m sp with good armor tanking skills
Warp in, align to station, set speed to 100m/sec, gradually moving away from spawn points to avoid being overwhelmed. No need for an AB! Adjusted speed as & when, but stayed aligned at all times Valk's tear through frigates so fast I had trouble giving them target locks! Assault Frigates quite hardy. Cruisers dealt with using Beserks, but took a while I left a HUGE trail of wrecks, beautifully laid out. When the BS arrived, I was 120km away. I warped out & back in to spawn point & took em out. Armor never went below 75%. Bookmarked a BS wreck, completed mission, came back in Harbinger salvager, aligned to station, set speed to 100m/sec and took a straight line though the trail of wreckage. Not once did I have to change course. Every wreck was within 20km. A Salvager's wet dream.
Results: 4500 LP 2.5m reward + bonus 11.5m bounties ATM's, loot etc (including sell orders & reprocessing cheap mods) 25m Total nearly 40m isk LVL 4 agent in Aunia, quality 6 (including connections) Total time taken: 1hr 45 mins (could easily be done in maybe 75 mins with better drone/gunnery skills than mine!)
Synopsis: Bloody good fun!

BUZZ KILL INCOME (Effective Agent quality 23, Dodixie)
Agent reward + bonus 2m LP's 3,200
Bounties 6.3m Salvage sale price 12.1m (23 ATB's, 14 plates, 39 BLC's, 39 FIC's plus the usual sundry stuff) Reprocced loot 1.5m Meta 4 items sale 3.5m
..totalling 25.4m
I stills say this is a fun mission for a well-tanked Domi with Valk II's & Berserkers. That said, I can see the novelty wearing off and myself start to decline it in a month or so unless I can speed up the FFF (Frig Frag Fest)

Did this one for the first time. Judging by the bonus and LP rewards this mission isn't very popular,
1,9m 1,9m bonus 6800lp.
I can see why. Almost impossible to track the spawns and triggers due to all the rats having generic names.
Plus the survival guide to spawns is wrong. I ended up with a couple of waves of BattleCruiser spawns which really strained my 2xLAR2 tank.
Smart bombs can help with some of the frigs but to be honest, Most of the troublesome stuff is outside web range.
Not sure if I'll run it again....

Edited by: KingCappo on 21/10/2008 14:54:55 Just completed this mission with a cruise Raven. Mission wasn't too hard, though it did take a while.
I think the key is to move away from the inital warp-in point, as all the new spawns seem to come from there.
The other is to make sure to take out all the ships in a spawn before triggering the next one. If you add the "Ship Type" column to your overview, you can see that there is a difference between similar ships in a spawn: just make sure to kill all but one of a certain type, then kill the last to trigger the next spawn.
I also fit two smartbombs. They were useful for taking out the AF spawns, but it seemed that most of the frigates orbited outside of bomb range.
edit: also to confirm the poster above me, reward + time bonus + LP was very high. Unfortunately, if you use the method above, salvaging takes a long time as the wrecks are spread about over a wide area.

Did this with 0 problems in a passive fit Hurricane, t2 low and mids but all my guns are still t1. more or less only had to suck in the drones once in a while, but otherwise easy mission. Salvaging was dead easy since it was just one big long slick of wrecks.

This mission is E Z Mode if you know what you are doing. Ran this one a while back in a Hyperion setup as Follows:
Highs 4x 425mm Prototype I Guass Gun 4X Large Smartbombs (use the two types that the frigs are weak to, cant rember which ones)
Mediums Full Cap Recharger II
Lows
SS Large Armor Repper DCU II 2x N-Type Armor Hardener 2x N-Type Armor Hardener (Hardeners are 2 each of the two damage types)
Drones
Hobgoblin II x 5 Hammerhead II x 5
All and all it took me about 30 min to complete this mission. All but the BC / BS and AF come within 5k and the Hob II will take out the AF quickly and the combo of 4 Large Hybrids and Hammer II's will take out the BS's and BCs quickly. This mission just requires a little bit of thought, instead of just charging in with the same old set up.

got this mission for the first time last sunday. tried to do it in a sniper fitted mael. was pretty ugly. took me ages and lots of warp outs trying to use smartboms to get rid of the frigs. was no fun.
then got it again the next day. grabbed my broadsword. mounted autocannons and a hvy launcher.
popping most frigs in a single volley. shield had no problems, cruisers and BC rats died very fast too. just the 2 large BC heavy spawns had some visible effect on the shields but no real problem.
no need to warp off at any time. just the last 4 BS spawn was a bit weird. showed up at 6-12km but client kept on telling me i was at 90k range. so i just docked and switched to my mael to kill them off quickly.
total payout (directly selling salvage and minerals from the reprocessed loot) was 33M -> 20M from salvage alone since i salvaged 32 trit bars :)
but takes alot of time - about 2.5 hours from accepting until i salvaged the last of those 120+ wrecks :S

Ridiculously easy to track the spawns and triggers, precisely because all the rats have generic names. ________________________________________________

Although not a pro missioner, I've run quite a few level 4's and was really surprised to see this mission the other day when I got it for the first time. Although it takes a little while to weed through, I thought it was fun. It reminded me of way back to the first time I got Gone Beserk! Despite a lot of the ships being small wrecks, the salvage was better than expected. Buzz Kill turned out to be one of the more enjoayable combat missions for me, but it may have been just because it was new.

I enjoyed this in my drake. total after selling I made about 30 mil, but had some good luck on salvage (over 30 trit bars, some very good named stuff).
Most of the frigs/DD's/AF orbit at <10, the cruisers at about 20. A few AF's hung out at 35, and that's where the BS's sat. I did laugh when I got target painted by the whole wave of one ship class, and was looking at the fit screen with a signature radius of nearly 2k (look ma! I'm a dreadnaught!)
I just sat like a lump and killed things. I was able to salvage 90% of the field without moving my salvager. G. Indy V + 5x Expander II + 3x Cargo Optimization I Rigs = 38,433 m3 G. Indy V + 5x Expander II + 2x Cargo Optimization II Rigs + 1x Cargo Optimization I Rig = 41,848 m3 |
