Edited by: Thaos on 20/06/2004 20:22:01 Why doesn't skill training have a queue system? It would help maximize training time and I wouldn't have to worry about choosing skills to train for days, weeks, even months maybe! >8D
Edited by: Thaos on 20/06/2004 20:09:11 Interesting ideas on the supporters and opponents to initiate skill training queues...But the fact is that this game is the ultimate lazy mans time sink. I've got an even better idea than skill training or skill queues. LetÆs start experienced based training, where you have to use a skill in order to gain experience in it. None of this pish-posh ooo let me train this skill or that skill and then IÆll see my eve account in a few days.
Skill queuing is not going to adversely affect the game period. I agree that it will allow me not to have to baby sit my character. But that's what I want it for. I would like to get online, check my skills, go shoot a few NPC's maybe some PvP and then to get on with real life. If you have the time to sit in front of Eve all day and micro manage your skills great; but I don't, so I want skill training queues to make my Eve gaming experience more enjoyable.
What?! Gain experience and skills by actually performing tasks in game?! No way! WouldnÆt that be cool! IÆve got an even better idea! Lets just make time associated skill training. You don't have to do anything, except watch the pretty dancing girls while you're uploaded with the latest skill training education $14.95 a month can buy you. Huh what?! I don't even play this game anymore I just sit around and chat and train skillz. yeah whatever :P |

If you need a skill training queue system then that probably means your not an active person in the game, it would make it possible to put the game off to the side for awhile while your character "buffs" up.
Then again that is only my opinion, I like it the way it is as it makes one more apt to keep up with the game and to stay involved.

I posted this on another post aswell but my thoughts on this are: Not every1 has the time to be logged in on a daily basis my idea is that a queue of say no more than 3 skills be implemented so that at least there is some ability to manage your skills while away from a PC for a day or two. This will also force you to log in fairly regularly My point is that it is fustrating having to keep an eye on the clock all day to make sure that I login to start a new skill and not lose any time.

A small queue is a good idea, say 2-3 skills. That way people can't operate for long without logging on, but people without continual PC access aren't penalised.

i thinkthat 2-3 would be great or at leased that after traing lvl 1 it went on to train lvl 2?

this issue comes up all the time. here are the arguments against:
Any one can just change the skills when they log in.
If you arn't logged in for a while then train a longer skill.
Why play at all i you can just train for a month or two and then log in at the right time (you can skip frigates and cruisers altogether)
is pressing a few buttons really that hard?
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

I am sorry Haratu, but you do not appreciate the position of the people requesting this functionality...
Any one can just change the skills when they log in
I only get to access to my PC at the weekends because I work abroad during the week. Therefore I have to go through a stupid song and dance just to train skills...
> I spend the weekend raising a skill to level 4 > I spend the week training that same skill to level 5.
When I return home the skill is 2 days away from level 5.
Over time this means I have 4-5 skills "almost trained" to level 5.
Have you any idea how frustrating this is?
If you arn't logged in for a while then train a longer skill.
I want the ability to be able to put Eve down for longer periods of time if I choose to.
Perhaps I want to go travelling abroad for a month.
Currently my only option is to train a high rank skill that I dont want to level 5!!
This is silly.
Why play at all i you can just train for a month or two and then log in at the right time (you can skip frigates and cruisers altogether)
If I choose to spend my money by..
> Starting a character, and just leaving him/her training for a few months > Buying a load of ISK on eBay to finance a battleship
...what do you care ?
Why should I be limited by your definition of how to play the game?
As it happens I personally have spent 6 months slowly building up ...I purchased my first battleship last week on the money paid by Agent missions and killing NPC Rats.
is pressing a few buttons really that hard?
YES IT IS! Implementation of any new method to train skills would significantly improve my experience of the game.

there are many of us that dont get acces to computers ever hour (or day) and it would be nice got us to be able to keep i the same sort of lines as a more active play i know this is one of the few games that allow you to train whil you sleep etc and i therefor understand that it could creat a inactive player that has no idear of the game the ettique running arround in a BS but they will soon die and they might not have even learned about instrance or cloans so who cares.

Why not allow us to start training skill via this website as we can already view the progress so people who cant be at there home PC all the time could access from work, school or internet cafe "Requested items: One Mark V ECM unit, 1000 km of fullerene cable, one low yield nuclear warhead. By the way, I was inactive for around a year, how about implementing a feature that allows for me to gain all the skill points I didn't train? I mean, I paid for the time, I deserve those ten million skill points that I didn't care about during that year!</sarcasm>

I would totally agree to at the very least be able to put another skill in queue after the one you're training, sometimes the skill training expires in the middle of the night, and instead of training some skill you don't really need it would be better to have it start on the next lvl of that skill or another skill. Like having unlimited queues would not be ok I guess, but having a queue of 1 or 2 more skills aint gonna hurt anyone...

A queue of 3 skills would be good. No more. Right now it's just very annoying that you can't train the skill you want because you would have to get up in the middle of the night to switch to another skill or lose 5 hours of skill training (the only thing not available for money).

I've thought about this a few times and I honestly don't see what would be the problem of implementing skill queues, even unlimited ones -- hell, even allow people to completely manage their skills with a small piece of software without running the game at all. Sure, that would mean people not logging in at all for weeks, maybe months, but how would that be an issue at all? I mean, CCP would still be getting subscription money, and I don't believe that this would cause a significant decrease in average player count, much less kill the community, but maybe I haven't thought of everything in this matter? --- I bring you joy, I bring you pain, I bring you some sunshine And some rain. |

problem with unlimited i guess is that people can farm up accounts for ebay with no problem at all, just buy a lot of accounts and farm them up and then sell them, with maybe 1-2 skills in queue only you don't have the same extent to that problem

Why don't you start another skill to train through the night? Then you can switch back to the other one later.

mangold im asking you, what would it hurt to have the ABILITY to queue up one or two extra skills? maybe people want to train that excact skill for something they're doin tomorrow etc, but because it finished in the middle of the night they have to train some skill they might not need at all. It's not like they're gonn revamp the whole system, and if you like the system the way it is, well then you can continue using it the way it is now... the only thing that will happen is that people get a choise...

As been mentioned, this topic gets asked all the time. We all pay the price to play this game and if we want skills trained, we have to log in and do it; it's a game.
If skill queuing gets put in (highly highly doubtful), then I literally can put on 3 Rank 5 Skills to train from Level 4 to Level 5 and not log in for a couple of months and just pay my monthly fee.
I guess if it does come out, I might just consider doing that and wait for Shiva to come out.
Hmmmm, let's see, I guess I will put as my 3 choices...
1) Caldari Battleship from Level 4 to Level 5 2) Amarr Battleship from Level 4 to Level 5 3) Gallente Battleship from Level 4 to Level 5
I wonder how long that queue really would be? Shiva just might be testing on Chaso when finished.

Well, for example: I want to train standard missiles 2, standard missiles 3 and then heavy missiles 1 on friday so I can use my new missiles for pirate-hunting the next day. sm2 takes me 2.5 hours, sm3 takes me 14 hours, hm1 takes me 1.5hours (roughly). That's 18 hours. Taking into account that I want to go to sleep at midnight, need to go to work in the morning and won't be home until 6PM (which is 18 hours after midnight), I'll have to train some other 18+ hour skill instead. That evening when I come home, I'll train sm2 and sm3 and then start on hm1. Now it would be finished at noon! I'm at work then, so I would have to cut it off at 8AM when I wake up, leaving 4 hours to do that same evening and having to train some other skill I don't immediately need for 10 hours. All in all, this delays my using heavy missiles, which I should be able to get in 18 hours, by 28 hours.
I hope you can see that this bugs me...

I dare to ask you why is this a problem, why would it be a problem for anyone if you didn't log in for a couple of months, or logged in one time every 27 days to train another lvl 5 skill? I don't see it having a negative effect on anything, and at least having 1-2 skills you can queue up will only help people that can't log into eve every hour of the day...

We all understand, really we do; we have all had to make our priorities on R/L or some game. If you can't or won't be around to change skill, then live with it and train something else. All your skills will advance over time, it is not like those heavy missiles need to be used this weekend, they can wait until a few days as you progress through the lower levels; just like all of us have done.

Many examples have been given; just look into this thread. For me, I already trained all the hour long skills, 4 hour skills, etc....; so it won't affect me since all my skills now take days to actually complete that are worth anything.
But just that ability to train without ever playing the game just doesn't seem right. Someone could start 5 new accounts, strictly use this queuing technique, never play the game, and within 6 months; he is only out $300 in real currency.
Then off to Ebay to sell each of these specialized accounts for only $500 ea. Nice tidy $1,000 profit for doing absolutely nothing.
That is only 1 scenario. It don't affect me other than I had to pay my dues to log in and train when I could in the beginning, so I would expect new players to also log in and put in their dues with time to train their character.
We start allowing queuing up with skills, will queuing up other aspects of the game come next? I have already seen requests in the Idea Lab to actually make the game to where one would press Autopilot and expect the ship to go all the way to the destination and dock for them. I don't want to see this in game, queing and automation. If you have to be somewhere else in game, then leave the game for that time period, start a long skill, and forget about it.
Someone's skills should not be growing just because they are going away on a holiday or in some way away from the game. I am off in a few minutes to go to a party 100miles away; won't be back until late tomorrow. For me, I am training a 10 day skill, so it doesn't affect me. But when I was young in the game, I would choose a skill that would go for at least a couple of days, even if I didn't really want that skill now, and set it; be done with it.
What is being asked of queuing of skills, is no waste in time for not even being in the game. It takes a bit of effort, but I think it is worth it to have to work at improving your character. Even if that means you have to actually log on once in a while to change a skill.

so what it boils down to is that as a new char in this game you had to go trough this with every new skill, and now you want all other people with new chars to kind of go trough the same stuff you went trough? Don't get me wrong im not pro the idea to queue _unlimited_ skills, and by just letting people queuing one i say again _ONE_ extra skill, it would still help the people that can't play every day... And in the same effect by still getting to queue one extra skill it wouldn't be that prospective for an e-bay farmer anyway...

I am the CEO of a corp
my corp got several members one of wich is a truckdriver he loves EVE (as do most of us) but since he is on the road so much he has to have a corpmate Train skills for him my opinion is that a 3 queue would not hurt anything
also my good comp just went down and i am on a old Pentium II with no decent Video card so i can not run EVE i got a 7-8 month old Charector that i can now not train (i borrowed my motherinlaws comp and put in BS lvl 4 that will help a little but what when it is up ??
atleast we are supposely soon (TM) getting a online training area that should help some
also though who cares if someone makes $500 of selling second accounts of EBAY those noobs that pay for an acount and now nothing about tha game will get killed fast as they have no idear whatsoever so other than making a few ppl profit whats it going to hurt Thank You Paw Sandberg

I agree to the one above me here, in any case I belive selling stuff on ebay is illegal, and it even says it's illegal in the EULA? If that's the case then brining up "ebay issues" dosn't really have a issue in reality, why? because it's not legal to do so... Anyhow making 1-2 skills queueable is NOT a problem for anyone? And i can't see it being a problem... It's like saying "No you youngsters all have to take the train like I did in the good old days, airplanes just makes things easier for you, and I want you to go trough the same hardship as I did when I was young"... Really get of your high horse, and maybe see that this is a good idea, and will help people that can't log on every morning or every night...

not sure selling accounts on ebay is unlegal either way though that would be CCP's problem (easy enough to notify ebay that sale of Eve online accounts are against the law)
however me going on vacation or having a skill that completes at 2 AM i do agree i am paying the subscription i should be allowed to train my skills and i still fell 3 is the number to go with although 3Xlvl 5 skills have the potential of 90 days it would cover most things
my personal biggest problem (other then my comp being down ) is the longer skills i forget that they are ending at 2 AM and dont train a skill again till next morning (when i get the eve mail) meaning i lose hours of skill training time
i am sure i am not the only one with this problem Thank You Paw Sandberg

Keep in mind that you are not your character. Why would your character suddenly decide that he should start learning negotiation 4 when he was on a roll getting all his missile skills?
Because the 'god' that controls his actions had to take a break...
Not much realism there imho.
