I was once depressed, and I know what it is like to be in that state, having no escape, not even in a virtual game.
So please, don't tell me that I am embarassing myself. Shame on you by trying to minimize it. Yes - I am looking into it right now. Just finished a letter to Iceland's National Justice Commissioner. The matter is in his hands now.
I would expect ANYONE to call the authorities if the threats were directed against me. I would not let anyone die to do something then. I will not let this hang on my conscience.
You guys are too cauterized, let's wake up a little bit, take your eyes off the screen, and ponder on what just happened in these last days.
here here! And that reminds me of a poem that I never read before that I'll only use to make me seem interesting but still applies in the most abstract of ways to this situation in almost no way at all.
Protest
To sin by silence, when we should protest, Makes cowards out of men. The human race Has climbed on protest. Had no voice been raised Against injustice, ignorance, and lust, The inquisition yet would serve the law, And guillotines decide our least disputes. The few who dare, must speak and speak again To right the wrongs of many. Speech, thank God, No vested power in this great day and land Can gag or throttle. Press and voice may cry Loud disapproval of existing ills; May criticise oppression and condemn The lawlessness of wealth-protecting laws That let the children and childbearers toil To purchase ease for idle millionaires.
Therefore I do protest against the boast Of independence in this mighty land. Call no chain strong, which holds one rusted link. Call no land free, that holds one fettered slave. Until the manacled slim wrists of babes Are loosed to toss in childish sport and glee, Until the mother bears no burden, save The precious one beneath her heart, until GodGÇÖs soil is rescued from the clutch of greed And given back to labor, let no man Call this the land of freedom.

CCP defines forever as about 30 days anyway. Just ask Helicity about how many days his 'permanent 'ban lasted.

Never did i comment before. Never did i care. I do not particularly like goons. I do not particularly like people who think internet wit equals any kind of status. Having said that, i will come to the point. If the OP or anyone sympathetic to his cause thinks they are following some kind of moral compass, and are here to educate us all... on how we are supposed to feel about peoples behavior ~ Let me enlighten you to how shallow you are to think that anything done on the internet has anything to do with real life and reality~. If you think something done at a celebration of internet wittiness (Fanfest) has any basis in reality, you are wrong. If somebody is going to harm themselves because ' the Mittani' said so, there is so much more wrong than ' the Mittani'. If anyone is going to 'lecture us all on our moral compass' i say this ~ **** you~ DON't start with me about personal situations you have been involved in, DON't tell me how you were in the military and have seen these things and we should respect you... ... you know what, *******, i am a REAL vet -- i am a REAL survivor of real life hardships JUST LIKE MOST PEOPLE ... stop being so fkucing self righteous and re-educating the internet on how we should feel about some drunk spoken words by a young idiot. If everyone would be put in a box for saying mean words to other people (USING CODENAMES BTW) then there would be no one left. YOU are the problem. You think that laws are in existence for you to abuse. YOU are the person that should be on trial here for encouraging things like abusing the legal system with fraudulent lawsuits. If you just want attention... you will argue me. If you actually care about, this you will brood and find some other avenue to pursue this witch hunt in effort to gratify your need for realization of personal internet justification.

I think enough is being done by CCP and enough has been said by Mittani. The Wiz guy is still breathing and done fine, and nothing came from the comments transpired on the Alliance Panel (other than the Justice League shitstorm). If what had been said did result in Wiz killing himself, then the OP might have a point, but things didn't happen that way and Mitts did realise he dun goofed. He even went out of his way to apologise and take the appropriate steps to emphasise his apology.
At this point, all I can see remaining is a lot of frothing and wailing about how someone they personally dislike did not get shafted even more. Like piranhas swarming in after getting a little nibble of fresh meat and wanting more. I hate to say it, but at this point, the ones who are claiming moral high ground here are actually coming across as highly hypocritical and emotional to the point of outright vindictiveness. This is not becoming of anyone trying to assert moral arguments.
I suggest people step away from the forums for a couple of days, drink some tea/coffee/highly sweetened and warm or cold beverage of your choice, and just chill. Staring at space rocks for too long is not good for your health! And if you really don't like the Goons or Mitts, maybe, you know, try doing something about it in-game. It would make for some interesting gameplay... |

Hey, I would ban him for life if the decision were mine to take, but I also see the wisdom in a 30 day ban.
Let's not be harsh at CCP who have taken the opportunity to send a very cleary and unambiguous message that this sort of behaviour will not be allowed to pass.
It's a shame we needed to show them publicly the correct path, but they have reluctantly come around. |

Once again, CCP stumbles from the righteous road because it lacks a moral compass. Only this time there is no grey scales, a real crime has been committed, and both CCP and Alex Gianturco must answer it accordingly. To keep things in perspective, I just Googled Iceland's Penal Code, and I found this: Quote: Art. 17 A penalty shall be ordered although an offence has been committed under the heavy influence of alcohol or other drugs. A penalty shall, however, not be ordered if the offender was completely unconscious, unless he or she knew in advance, or had full reason to expect, that the offence would be committed under such influence or that the offence would follow from this his/her condition
Art. 214 In case a person be conducive to another personGÇÖ;s committing suicide he/she shall be subject to [imprisonment for up to 1 year] 1) or fines. In case this be done for a selfish purpose the penalty shall be imprisonment for up to 3 years.
Art. 229 Anyone officially disclosing the private affairs of another without sufficient reasons being at hand to justify the act shall be subject to fines or [imprisonment] 1) for up to 1 year
Art. 233 Anyone threatening to commit a punishable act, the threat being apt to arousing fear with another for his/her life, health or welfare or that of others shall be subject to fines ?1) or imprisonment for up to 2 years.
A case can be made at Iceland Justice System against Alex Gianturco on account of: a. Gianturco publicly disclosed a personal letter containing sensitive and private information without any sufficient reason. He premeditated the act. Therefore he can be indicted on the Art. 229 mentione above. b. Gianturco threatened the life of another person by asking the audience to find him and harass him until he killed himself. Therefore he can be indicted on the Art. 233 mentioned above. If the person actually committed suicide, he would be also indicted on the Art 229. Not much can be said when the legal norm is made clear. I pray that CCP will do the right thing by banning Gianturco from EVE Online, and denounce him to Iceland's General Prosecutor. After all, EVE should be about having fun, not about committing crimes. No...as per the rules that CCP has set forth, he got a 30 day ban. That is enough. No reason to take it further. Seriously guys...Goonswarm may be a bunch of assholes but they are EvE's assholes. They bring an element to our little sandbox in space that nobody else can. As much as I hate them, I want them in the game doing what they do best. Being assholes. There is no reason for everybody to be carrying pitchforks and torches trying to lynch mob Mittani. Let it go already. CCP made the decision. Whether you agree with it or not at this point is irrellevant. He got his punishment and that isn't going to change. Move on people.
And before any of you start calling me a GSF alt or whatever. I am and have been one of the most open and vocal anti Goonswarm, anti Mittani players for quite some time. EvE is not about PvP.-á EvE is about the SANDBOX! - CCP!-á Open the door!!! |

You voluntary give up that aspect of your anonymity when you register yourself for a CSM run. Its a big step for some people and has disuaded them from trying for CSM in the past - but really, you need to be made of pretty stern stuff to run for internet spaceship government.

You must have not read the forum post on the goon site, or known that he also apologized to the person, and gave money as well. ... Sort of hard to really say what a legit apology is or isn't via a forum post or without actually knowing the person. However I suspect many of you regardless if it was sincere wouldn't believe it or accept it anyway.
Some people will never be happy. But once again not up to the rest of us to accept his apology or not... rather the person who the insult was directed towards. |
