The dominix is one of the best looking ships in the game because it performs exactly how you expect it too when you see it. Its a fat, slow, drone spewing, cap draining monster. Its the internet space ship equivalent of a fat, slow, child spewing, life draining catholic woman.

i think if they threw a bit more symettry into the game everyon would be cool
like the incursus, take that stupid "horn" off, or add another one on the other side
same thing w/ that bulbous protrusion on the side of the megathron
same thing w/ the bulbous protrusion on the tristan
and make the kestrel more symettrical

The idea that any Caldari designer would ever waste even one second wondering whether his creation "looked nice" is laughable. Function is everything. If you only need one of something, and the left tip is a good place to put it, who the hell cares that the right tip won't look the same?
Gallente, on the other hand, actually should have great-looking ships. They do have some, but then they get things like the Brutix.

Misanth was created and train Amarr just because their ships look great.. no need to touch them. Well, the Maller looks pretty poo but who'd fly that one anyway. 
Archon looks better in classic than premium tho, could use a bit of a rework, preferably towards the Aeon-look, and the Aeon would look great in black.. but that'd just be a bonus.

Out of Minmatar (which I mostly fly) ships, my gripes with ship aesthetics:
- The Slasher and the T2 hulls are horribly, incredibly, totally ugly. I gave up on Minmatar interceptors just because looking at them for longer then 1 minute made me want to self destruct.
- I find the Stabber / Stabber derivatives to be fairly ugly. Yes to the whole pointy image, but the actual design with asymmetric engines and the front end of it annoys me.
- The Bellicose and its derivatives are a bit meh, but passable.
- Sleipnir needs to use the extremely sexy Hurricane hull. Seriously, Brutor tribe paint + the sexiest T1 hull in game would create a ship which you'd want to fly even if it was gimped and not worth the ISK.  Cyclone hull is passable, but I'm not a big fan of it.
- Typhoon could use the asymmetric engine bit, else it's nice... also, the whole engine part could be enlargened a bit.
- I don't like the Tempest, I just don't.
However, Minmatar has some of the sexiest hulls around - Rifter and its derivatives are awesome, Hurricane is extremely beautiful, Maelstorm is quite beautiful too, Rupture is preety after you get used to it (it looks like a blob of rust, but it really does grow on you after a while). Even the cargo frigate looks extremely Minmatar-ish, like a box with sails and engines.

Ships are fine (mostly). I can't believe people don't like Amarr, they are the sexiest race with greatest consistency (apart from a few). Move the turrets on my Megathron into the long banks with rounded edges that were clearly intended to house the guns, CCP got it right at the back but at the front they decided to change their mind? Does it really matter if the ship won't have complete field of fire.
But seriously, the Dominix, we know those Caldari and Minmatar freaks clearly have no vision / care for aesthetics, but the Gallente care about how their ships look, this much is obvious, so why when they came to the Dominix did they drop all that with a big 'meh'.

/cry about it nubs! they all grow on you.. the Tempest would even grow on you if it still had utility to back up it's utilitarian looks.
Some ships are sorta ugly, but I like them that way, and so should you.. the Vagabond looks like what you would think a crazy speed-whoring tribe like the Thukkers would make. The scorpion.. is actually an awesomely designed ship... all you who say symmetry.. obviously don't know the first thing about Aesthetics.

symmetry don't much matter to me, Van, but. . .have you ever actually flown a Moa? the Steel Battlechicken of the Caldari Armada? the chrome-plated rooster?
this, if anything, needs a remodel. and someone had some nice organic models for the Domi that i really liked, a while ago.

I think that with our eyes they are ment to be ugly. When you think about in a historic way wouldn't it be naive out in the extreme to think that we would share same opinion on beuty as those who created the ships i mean apart from we are being ancient history the races hav resetled in a diffrent place and evolved diffrent cultures. The diffrent races also had to adept to a entirely different enviroment so we can probally asume that evolution also have a big say in how they think. Anyway thats just my thoughts + im bored.
Keep away from the Moa the disharmony makes it look otherworldly and a bit demonic really.... An infernal turkey from the lower planes

Of the ships I actually fly and care about:
1) Helios. Dear god CCP, what did this poor innocent ship ever do to you? WTF were you smoking when you decided to change it to the Imicus hull? Put it back to the old model.
2) Scorpion. I have trained the skills for a Widow. I can not stand the thought of actually flying it, because it's just too ugly to look at (oh, and it needs a fuel bay, but that's a different issue...).
3) Falcon (new graphics). The old Blackbird hull was just bizarre, but I eventually came to like it. The new one, however, completely destroys any aesthetic value the old version ever had.
4) Nighthawk. It's black, not dark gray. BLACK. You got this right with the Khanid ships, so learn something from them.
5) Kestrel (new version). The engine pods just suck. Put them back to the old shape.
6) Chimera. It's too big. The old Chimera model (the one that was smaller than most battleships) was awesome. Please un-nerf the Chimera's size and give me back my toy carrier.
And I think I must be the only person who actually likes the Moa hull. It's ugly, but that ship has personality. Compare that to the Scorpion, where the only thought it brings to mind is "can I have some of what you were smoking?".

The Nighthawk should be based off the Drake (one of the most bad-ass looking ships in game: It serves the role it exactly looks like - A tough missile chucking monster).
The Nighthawk and Drake are both missile boats. The Ferox and Vulture are gunboats. Make the Command Ship models correspond to their proper BC hull type.
You make the Nighthawk into a black Drake with red stripes, I might never fly any other sub-cap ship again!

As I have often pointed out, the Raven looks like the combination of some surgical implement of an oncologist's or a dentist's, and a tank engine. Not pretty. Similarly, the Caracal is a not-so-amusing mix of a vacuum cleaner and a canvas stand.
The Dominix stands out as far as space turds go, mostly because the Gallente happen to have the ugliest ships of all. The Lachesis easily nabs second place.
The Amarr can be faulted for many of their aggressive bananas, but it is only the Prophecy that combines being useless and looking like a chicken. On the Cruiser side, the Omen needs a revision of its engines. Not much more can be said.
The minmatar have some spectacularly ugly Cruisers overall, but the Scythe stands out as the worst of the lot. And can somebody please modify the Hound just a little, at least?

Do NOT mess with my Thanatos. It's easily the second sexiest ship in the game, and even then it is second only to the NYX. I have to admit that the new skin isn't as cool as the old one, but a higher-res version of the old skin on premium would look sick.

I've heard it said it's because Caldari ships were designed by committee, then the best features were combined onto a single ship.
They're wrong.
All Caldari ships are designed after models of ships from the other races ... after they drop them on the floor and glue them back together again in the dark.

You're being too harsh on the Typhoon. It only needs to lose that huge asymmetric engine sticking on the side and it's a beautiful ship, as far as Minmatar go. Besides, after you realize it's the Minmatar good and usable BS, the look starts to grow on you.

 Needs the engines to be brought closer to the ship and remodeled to something more engine like, like a tube, keep them extended from the middle, but make them semi-realistic.
2) Imicus
Terrible, it doesn't even have the Dominix's charm of looking like its job, it looks like someone went to a MINMATAR scrap yard, and pieced together random crap.
3) Exequror
Generally a whole new concept, it's unappealing in so many ways.
4) Obelisk
More than the actual model, the thing that doesn't work about this ship is the fact gallente ships are generally sleek, look at the megathron model, thorax, incursus. Also, it doesn't stay anywhere near as in-line with the rest of the gallente hauler ships. Think about an itty V, it's a bloody long thing, no gallente ship has a wall as a face (Save our whale, the dominix, and our the dronelord: Moros).

1) Typhoon
Trashcan tilted on the side and thrown into space, some poor sods decided to turn it into a ship.
2) Rupture
An inverted pyramid is not a great idea for a ship =/
3) Burst
It's sort of in line with Minmatar solar-sails but...it's so badly put together it's lucky it's able to pass QC, let alone fly.

1) Augoror
It looks like it's a heavily plated ship, designed to take a beating...but that's the maller's role...maybe swap models? It doesn't look like a ship that matches its purpose.

Raven - Take the larger wing, flip it, and use the resulting model to replace the smaller one. The Raven needs to learn to use BOTH hands when its stroking...
Megathron - Just plain ugly ship. The turrets are all over the place when it looks like it has specific turret points. (Think the Geddon) From the side the ship just has a terrible profile.
Mining Bardges - Less boxey please. Its funny that I love the way the old Hulk/Mackinaw looks because of the paint jobs, but the old Retriver/Covey look terrible. I happen to like the new Retriver/Covey models though. Call me crazy
Every Caldari cruiser/T2 NOT based on the Caracal model. The devs were drunk when they came up with these.
Omen/Zealot - stream line this thing please... It almost looks like a baby Geddon, but with birth defects.
Crow/Condor/Raptor - Looks like it crashed into the side of something, please give us straight "wings" or make them both dip down.
Mini Freighters - When I first saw one it reminded me of the Jawa Sand Crawler. I know they are the trash heaps of Eve... why not give it a vertical redesign?

I thought the Vaga looked cool. From face on it has a distinct serpent-like face, which makes it look really scary. The Harbinger could do with a change of look - it looks like a chubby crucifix with an oversized helmeted head in front. Compare that to the majestic (albeit overweight) Prophecy, and no wonder people still fly the Proph given its weaker performance in virtually all aspects.
Zealot would be much nicer without that little turtle shell at the back of it. Maybe it's meant to look like an Oriental Dragon Turtle, but it just looks fat at the back, like some little puppy. Imicus looks like an elderly jellybean holding a walking stick, Bantam like a really blocky humanoid shape skiing, Slasher looks like a hangglider while Rokh could be a bit bigger to match the Hyperion, Abaddon and Maelstrom. Apart from these, I find all the other ships charming in their own way. Some are a bit funny, but they have character!

The Caldari cruisers, especially the Onyx (Moa) and Basilisk (Osprey) are in dire need of a complete redesign. They are hands down the ugliest and most ridiculous designs in space.
The Scorpion and Raven needs some tweaking, a little more symmetrical please.
The Typhoon and Tempest are fine, the Stabber and cohorts (other minmatar cruisers) need some loving, nothing major, but somebody needs to give them a makeover.
The Dominix, Brutix and Iteron need some love as well.

Can't say I've ever thought of my Domi as a Catholic woman before - will take a closer look this evening ... maybe squinting helps? ;-)
I like the Domi - it has a no-nonsense, don't get in my way or you'll be sorry, punched in the face a few times quality about it. It is also symmetrical, which I like in a ship.
I think the Raven is probably my least favourite model - looks like a blind 2-year old with no arms got hold of some lego ;-) Still, I would fly one if I had the need - I don't let the look of a ship change my view of it ... the right tool for the job, and all that.

Honestly, all things considered I have to agree for the most part. The industrials, rookie ship, and shuttle should probably have a little modeling work done but most of the rest are aesthetically fitting for the Caldari mentallity.
Granted the raven and osprey aren't the pick of the litter for looks but when you've got the cormorant, moa, ferox, drake, rokh, and merlin you don't really need much else.

The dominix is a bit too block, especially for the "bio-technic" look a lot of gallente ships seem to strive for and the classic graphics megathron skin looks horrible. In fact it looks like a rich but absent-minded widow who just plunked down 250k to have every part of her body put under the knife and made to look as young and pretty as possible but forgot to have her ass worked on. I really mean that, the megathron looks decent until you get to the rear end at which point it makes me cringe. Thankfully as I use premium graphics I would no longer be ashamed to fly that ship.
Then there's the premium skins for the hyperion and myrmidon. I'm sorry but basic black for the hyperion was just awesome and the grey/blue look does not go well. In addition a myrmidon with blue racing stripes (which look like they were made by masturbating smurfs) is just horrible.
The thanatos, much as it looks like an under-fed nyx, also looks like a giant ****roach. Definite negative there, as is the half-melted look on the imicus hull.

Skin: Pilgrim, eagle, absolution, premium eos, lachesis
Model: Armageddon, ibis, imicus, thrasher, cyclone, aeon, avatar

When a corpie said that my Dominix looked like a basketball sneaker I couldn't agree more. So when referring to my missioning ship it's simply "shoe" or "sneaker" nowadays
I personally hate the skins of the following ships:
- Osprey
- Imicus / Helios (old one was cool, now I don't even dare to use it anymore becaus of the looks)
- Phobos (I mean...pink...dildo...err)
- Prophecy / Absolution / Damnation (these look cool on the picture, but are a bit...fat, when I bought my first Prophecy I was like: damn...)

After some time I've bought the idea that even a Rifter, which looks like a StarWars podracer, has the size of approximately 2 soccer fields, but these, according to this scale, house+ sized turrets poking out everywhere? Ever seen a frigate? E.g. this one? Notice the cannon? Now let's compare this to how it would look like in Eve

I wish they would model the guns a little better. The lasers look ok, but the projectile series looks like how I used to draw guns on cars when I was 8. A stick protruding from the ship with a huge gun attached to the end? Make it look like a part of the ship.

I always got a good laugh watching the enemy minitar ships twitch every few seconds.
Luckily that was taken care of. Seeing a Minitar dreadnought twitch in place was just weird. All the Minitar ships except for the freighters need a new look. All them ships are ugly. Even the pilots lol.

Unlike most people here I like asymetric styled ships. I'll just comment on ships I've been flying with for most of the time (Minmatar and Gallente).
I love the style of the Tempest and most Minmatar ships. They fit the bill by being agressive and rough. There is just one seriously ugly ship. I discovered it about 3 months after starting EVE, and just thinking about me flying one of these things sends me shivers down my spine... it's the Scythe. Who can even deny this to be the fugliest ship of them all in EvE? I guess people don't mind it because it's as useless as the similar ugly ship, that is the Osprey. The Scythe model has to be changed, I actually think CCP put it in to make fun of Minmatar.
Gallente are ok. There are a few very good looking ships like the Mega or Ishtar. Basicaly all capitals are the best looking ships in the game, Nyx being the queen. On the other hand their frigs aren't good looking at all. The Atron (and the T2 models) looks like a bone, the Tristan ist just hideous. But I guess the most annoying shape is the Helios. Why did you change the model CCP? Covert-ops should look sneaky, fragile and agile. The Helios however looks quite the opposite: fat arsed, bulky - it looks like a comical relief of a good drama. Same really with all the other Cover-Ops, they looked just right for what they were supposed to do.

Imicus hull is sexy. Maulus hull is too vertical. Similarly, probe hull beats the vigil goofiness. My cheetah feels like a real ship now, not some sort of cheap TV antenna that you got off a commercial for $19.95. The only thing needed to perfect the probe is to lose that sail on the back.
Moving on, gallente bs totally rock any other race's bs. Hyperion is the sexiest bs ever. Dominix is pretty hot too. Then the thron. Then the other races' bs, rokh, amarr ships, etc.

#3 Any minmatar ship hull that is not a: Reaper (come on, it's a kestrel without armor), rifter, bellicose, scythe, hurricane, maelstrom, typhoon, slasher
#4 Tentatively the tormentor class of frigates looks a bit too much like luvdisc from pokemon.
Ships that I wouldn't want to see touched would be the moa (except maybe the eagle skin..), naval megathron in classic or premium, prophecy, brutix, ferox, cormorant, merlin, and probably a few others.

Or, rather, what they should do is release a MKII version of all the first-generation ships. Same stats as the current, but different models.
Or with their T3 ramp-up remove all of the first-generation ships entirely, and phase out the rest, as they bring in the jigsaw ships.

The Moa's real problem is it's huge, lopsided extra engine. Wtf!
Otherwise, the general shape, including the big, long command/bridge boom, looks pretty cool.
Drop that huge, honkin' eyesore on the left side (from behind), and mirror the compartments on the right in its place. Add a tiny engine underneath to match the tiny one on the right, and you're good to go. A big, beefy brutecake of a cruiser!

in premium, it looks like, well, a ship.
in classic, it looks like an engine with a cargo bay and a pair of mining lasers bolted to it on girders.
i loved the classic look for just that reason. it was the epitome of minmatar engineering. it had exactly what you needed to run a mining ship (lasers, engine, cargo space and something to stop them drifting in separate directions) and not a scrap more. i loved it.
also, bring back the old scythe model. hose fitting FTW!

The Myrmidon is rather acceptable. The Coercer model though, is utter crap, and the Heretic's switch to the awesome Khanid color scheme still doesn't help it.
Also, regarding another Khanid ship that actually looks like pure awesome in general, the Vengeance needs just this one little fix to look superb; remove the forward wings. The extra engines and the color are quite enough.
