It's very widespread and it's derogatory. I've often seen it used in the context of people being angry about exploitative prices. "100 isk for AM small???" and someone replies "Shrug, Jews." It's now so normal for many players and alliances that people are starting to forget it's potentially offensive.People used it constantly when I was in the old Northern Coalition. And it's become so widespread now. I was born in the 60s and influenced as a child by many people who had fought in the Second World War. Their view was that the war was completely just because of the Jewish issue and that antisemitism is profoundly wrong It's a very out-of-date stereotype. In the Middle Ages there were prohibitions in the Christian and Muslim religions against usury. This meant that most bankers had to be of a different religion and in Europe they were generally jews But now there's very little connection between jews and usury in the modern world. It's not Israel that caused the crash of 2008 I believe it originally came to Eve via Goons from the Something Awful boards where there's a tolerance for many things that people wouldn't want in Eve. The N-word is dropped as often as the word jew over there. But that's there and just because it's permitted there doesn't mean it should be permitted here. Now you could try to defend it by claiming that it's meant light-heartedly, that it's a joke, that it's ironic. But it's well established in law (and simple common sense) that harassment is determined by how the recipient feels, not the person makiing the comments It's not appropriate here and it worries me that it's gaining traction. So much so that when a player is trying to behave it slips out - he's forgotten it's an emotionally-charged word. In fact to some extent I had too, it was only when someone commented on my blog about Mittens using it that I thought this really has gone too far I would like CCP to crack down, to issue temp bans for the use of the word jew in a derogatory way. And I don't just mean if someone complains I mean one day a player laughs about "jewing it up" and the next day they can't log in. Recent events have shown that Eve's developed a locker room culture that's out of control and in some countries there are even legal implications to antisemitism.

EvE players are notorious for their thick skin and shady antics. EvE itself is immersive and you are your character. That character can be anything from a pirate to a scoundrel to an upstanding Amarr Empire Fighter. Those choices are yours. The language you use and the way you treat others is part of your character. Just as people are offensive in real life, so are characters in EvE Online. You need to grow some meat sack armor or you will never have a good time in EvE Online.

I can't speak for all Jews, but many of us have learned to just shrug off this kind of thing. If you got upset over every tiny stereotype and slur, you'd never be happy. No matter what your ethnicity, there are always people seeking to dehumanize and disparage you. It's best just to ignore it. Obviously, if there's ever any real malicious intent behind it you should probably report it. But am I gonna petition every single person who stereotypes Jews as profiteering and greedy? Nah. This ^ I have a younger brother with Downs Syndrome, I dont kick off or even give a **** when people start throwing that around, posting pics and calling everyone a tard. When I was younger I punched a few people for it, I grew up and stopped caring about it, if we all worry about hurting someones feelings all the time we will all live alone, sad lonely lives. Well tbh probably many of you do anyway so sorry about that. But really, you will find the people crying about the use of anti this, or anti that names are actually the liberal white folks who want to try and save mankind, not the people it actually affects who got over it and accept that people are people. Basically what Im trying to say is get over yourself, you arnt here to save mankind. Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

When we were battling for the right to exist in Syndicate where the Masquerade alliance had decided to carebear...they started getting really nasty with us (probably because though we lost a few engagements...we kept slaughtering them in really poorly fit and expensive ships). Every time I'd log on I had to read a bunch of horrible crap about black people right down to the use of the N-word and "Nigglet". I'm not even actually a black man but I still got rather disgusted by them constantly harping on it...and the fact that it was all really stupid **** too. A corp mate at the time WAS actually a black man and I don't think he was particularly pleased by it either. I think perhaps the real issue is that most people who play EvE are in their teens and early 20's. They've not really experienced much and are growing up in a time where even simple, basic respect for others is frowned upon as "PC" (you know, not referring to black highschool girls as "nappy headed hoes")....something to be fought against for the sake of "free speech", which seems to actually mean being able to say anything you want without there being any consequences at all. It bothers me, but in the great pile of crap that bothers me about our cultural direction...it's not really that high.

It was all lost when human beings expanded through the EvE gate and got wiped out. The only religious group that's mentioned as surviving the great extinction in the EvE history is Catholicism, which became the foundation for the Amarr theocracy. So if you want to use the "money grubbing jew" thing but be in character you should instead be coming up with some sort of anti-Caldari slang. THEY are the in-game model of a society overly obsessed with collecting large sums of money. If you're going to use the, "It's in character," excuse....be in ******* character!!! You know, sort of like the Minmatar and rust.
