lol at all the wannabe fps pvp players who think carebear = industrialist tbh. Op gets points for the funny title but loses them in drivel post. The only thing thats "carebear" about this patch is the Orca being a hi-sec cap ship, and we have already had those for ages in the form of freighters and no one cried about it.

Edited by: Korizan on 17/10/2008 12:05:17 PvPr's And Industrialists a like have been asking for a way to limit who buys from them and know who they are buying from. And set pricing according to standings.
Now CCP is going to give that to you.
IF you can't see how this can be benefit to everyone involved. Well your loss.

Jeez, I have been playing this game for some time now and still I haven't seen a perfect synopsis as what a Carbear actually is.
Seems we have 150,000 active players and 150,000 different point of vieuws about what a Carebear is and isn't.
So guess what.
Let's for once and for all define what a Carebear is.

ive read most of the comments in this thread i have laughed at some laughed with some and even shook my head at a few but one thing everyone needs to realise we are the player base no matter how we choose to play eve from the pirates to the pvp'ers from the industrialists to the mission runners we are all part of a community that makes eve what it is none of the afore mentioned groups would exist without the other when u first started eve and couldnt use t2 what did you use?...named equip?...thank the mission runners..when u trained and was able to use t2 who do you thank for those items?....indutrialists ...the ships you have flown thank the miners/industrialists.....your first experience of low sec getting pirated by a mean guy who as well as releiving you of isk or your ship provided u with a feel of dread and realism in the low sec areas...thank the pirates......and last but not least
thank ccp for providing the game..the servers...the constant updates to keep the game fresh...thank them for the 24 hour monitoring of the server
we are all apart of something special each person plays his own role enjoy it and relish it

I'm looking forward to this expansion, as someone who has fingers in many pies (PVP focus, trade and invention alt).
But lets stop this NONSENSE about "there's never been an industrial expansion before" and "all previous expansions have been combat/PVP focus".
Its utterly utterly utterly untrue.
EXODUS: POS. This was a huge huge overhaul, meaning vastly complicated industrial webs as people moon mined, reacted, advanced reacted, then built T2 components. Do any of you realise before this T2 components just dropped from agents? IT was this step that made T2 completely player made, as well as myriad in complexity from raw-->finished product. Exodus also added mining barges and changed resource gathering forever, with the addition of variant ore types.
COLD WAR: Capital ships + Freighters. Another massive change for the industrialist,, giving them a huge ability to move items, plus the new capital component and capital ship BPOs to buy, setting up production on a scale never seen before. Also COSMOS (rare items requiring adv. skills to build) and Outposts, again, a construction on a scale that industrialists hadn't ever seen before. Oh, and lots of new T2 to build.
RED MOON RISING: I guess you lot have already forgotten the old science and industry UI. Spoilt brats the lot of you - it was dreadful compared to the current one, and things like remote use did not exist. RMR brought the new UI (and a big comedy issue where major T2 producers like NAGA thought it worked like the old one, and put batches of 300 HACs on and the queues built up for weeks). Not to mention Exhumers, mining upgrades, T2 strips and crystals, plus 20 new t2 ships and all the t2 ammo to make?
REVELATIONS. This is the biggie. INVENTION AND RIGS. Two areas that are now abo****ely huge parts of the EVE economy, throwing open the doors of T2 production to all (biggest change ever, tbh) plus the entirely new rig and rig component economy. Plus new bs/bc to build, GAS MINING and boosters, contracts (creating an actually functional second market instead of the shit that was escrow).
Rev 2: This is where it gets a bit worse: just outpost upgrades (not really well used), exploration improvements (not really relevant to a lot of indy, although it is the source for data interfaces, hidden belts, and so on) and sov changes for more logistics e.g. jump bridges. Rorqual was in here somewhere though!
Trinity: new T2, and as its the first since invention, it really was huge for industrialists, as there was a race to invent it first, and on a scale never seen before. Jump freighters and T2 bs were a field day for those into invention and production.
EA: **** all.
So, bullshit. Almost every expansion has been laden with industrial content, and notice that those that didnt (Rev 2 and EA) didnt have much content to appeal to a wide player base either, but were very focussed.
I'm all for new indy stuff in Quantum Rise - rumours of Tech 3, manufacturable implants, and the Orca, they abound. But I'd rather it was an expansion full of stuff for EVERYONE, like Rev 1 or RMR. And lts get over this "first ever indy expansion!" stuff. Nothing they have announced has come even close to the indy improvements in Exodus, RMR or Rev 1. _______________________________________________ Mercenary Forces |

Well put.
I was wondering how long it would be before people started pointing out that the announced industrial aspects of this expansion are significantly less 'expanding' then the industry stuff in other broad-expansions.
I wonder if the real pattern here is when CCP announces an expansion focusing on a particular group (instead of the whole playerbase) it ends up being kinda lame, even to the group that it was designed to help (look at EA)

Honestly, playing both industrial stuff and PVP stuff when it suits me... this expansion will be great. Hopefully it will make low-sec mining less dull, or at least more productive than just low-sec ratting.

No. It's got a significant combat redesign, and ... oh wait, economy is vitally important to anyone who has a brain, too. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

I survive off PVP, and I don't ****ing care that they made a patch for Carebears. Sometimes carebears play the game too. Sometimes they come into lowsec, and lose CNR's and Freighters on their way to/from Jita, and I enjoy that.

...you need industrialists to build the stuff you use to kill. You make the industrialists happy, and make their process of building and selling stuff a little faster (perhaps even... easier) then prices are likely to drop. Thus, the affects on the PVPers can be seen.
Am I the only one who notices this corelation?

There is such a thing as carebears who attack other players (aka "gank-bears"), and also non-combat players that are the farthest thing from being carebears. Just because we don't like to fight does NOT mean we are cowards that don't take any risks.
If a jock beats up a scientist and calls him weak because he has more brains than brawn, does that mean the scientist is a "wimp" or "wuss"? Would he be a coward for trying to run away from a fight he cannot possibly win? Of course not, it just means the jock is physically stronger than him. And that's all.
Non-combat players just PVP in a different way: either by finding ways to survive it like with WCS, good scouting, etc; or in a totally different arena such as "market PVP" or even scamming. Running logistics for a lowsec or 0.0 operation is hardly a "carebear" activity, it just has different objectives than simply blowing up bad guys.
I believe the term "carebear" really applies to risk-taking and competition. If you avoid competition and risk in any form, then you are a cearbear. ie- "solo hi-sec mission farmer" or even "ganking noobs". no actual risk or competition.
but still, they serve a purpose: they make nice targets, and maybe even customers.
think about it... what if everyone played the market to make the most ISK? or what if everyone was ready for a fight anytime and anyplace? hmmm, actually that kind of sounds a lot like 0.0 space.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
As others have pointed out industrialist in EVE != carebear. Far from so. I would define a carebear in EVE as a 23/7 mission runner. Who plays only to deck out his CNR with faction gear. ==================================================
Ah so people that undock to do missions are carebears, but people that undock to mine are PvPers.
Stop trying to justify your bearing careers as being Player versus Player. Everything in EVE can be considdered PvP, even posting on the forums is PvP.
You people are calling it PvP because it involves player interaction, like in every MMO.
Just accept it, you are a bear :) -------------- I R Not Completely Amazing, But I R Mostly Amazing |
