Then please don't make patches available on the 'EVE patches' part of the official website before the downtime is over and the final patch ready.

So I borked one installation trying to download the patch manually, luckily had a backup copy of the eve folder that seemed to patch premium ver correctly. we will see when(if?) the servers come up.

Why are pre-prod patches being released on public servers? Why not only make prod-patches available after they've passed Q&A?

2-Zip data directory to safe location

3-Proceed to download/apply patch
4-Bugs occur? Unzip and restart @ step 3

Unfortunately it looks like CCP subscribes to the 1950s business model of declaring deadlines and then proceeding as if they will succeed no matter what goes wrong or is not done. At least until 5 minutes after missing a deadline. Though it might be partially for practical reasons like union agreement to stay late 1 day in a week but only 1 day versus getting customers with bad clients back on track ASAP.
But I am betting someone in CCP management apparently thinks that sort of PR looks better even in the face of significant work slippages. I don't know why those sort of managers don't like just extending downtime or just admitting that maybe they should postpone deployment for a couple days. But they don't.
And I have worked for such people myself. I am sure everyone is at maximum sweat and tempers are short.
