About memory problem.
I tried all cache settings, it doesn't change anything. Each visited system adds about 50 MB to memory usage, and after client reaches about 1,5 GB I need to restart it, because I'm not able to do anything. I've talked to some other players about this. Some of them got the same problem, seems that it's only Win XP problem, because one of them using windows Vista and everything works perfectly
CCP please don't feed us nonsensical cache settings solution. Before patch eveyrthing works good, and after dont.
So just solve this problem properly asap.

Hello, I have a stupid question regarding the cache size setting. Does it affect the use of RAM or VRAM? I'm guessing RAM, but I started second-guessing.
I'm having problems with cache size set to 256MB, and according to the Windoze task manager EVE sometimes uses up to 2GB of memory.
I'll try and get a log for you guys but reproducing this issue is hugely time-consuming.

I'm having massive problems right now with my clients just EATING memory. I normally run two clients, and my page file usage is about 1gb per client, and this is with my cache settings in-game set to "low 32megs"
Give us a break guys, you JUST fixed this same or similar issue recently, and now we've regressed back to where we were after QR initially released. This is garbage.

[non-TL:DR version]
Check your cache size setting:
esc -> Display & Graphics -> Cache size.
This should be set as high as your computer can handle, if you are having problems then set it back to 'off'.
If you try this and are still having issues, please submit a detailed bug report!
Rest assured we are looking into this from our end as well, but there is absolutely no substitute for good information from you guys about what you are experiencing on your own machines.
[Full version]
Memory leaks?
The graphics cache size setting determines how much graphics assets are kept resident in memory. This allows faster loading of scenes, particularly if you're warping in and out often. This comes with a side effect though that the client wil use more memory than it would otherwise. This is quite often mistaken fora memory leak. you may rest assured, it is not.
A memory leak is when the client starts using up memory and does not release it properly when it should. If you set your cache size to anything other than 'off' you are telling EVE to use that much more additional memory.
Normally the EVE client will use around ~200-500mb of RAM. If you then change your cache size to 'High - 256' that means you are telling the EVE client to use an additional 256mb of RAM, thus your client will eventually grow to be using ~400-800mb of RAM.
Optimally you would want to set this to as high as your computer can handle. This can vary widely depending on your hardware, OS, and what other programs are running when you play EVE. A general rule of thumb would be to load up EVE then open the task manager and see how much RAM you have free. If you've got plenty free, turn the setting up, if you're running low, turn it back down.
so here i am flying threw empire and i noticed my pc that's running vista and has 4 gig of ram suddenly starts acting up. so i look to see how much ram each of the 2 clients are using and WOW each one using 1.2gig of ram.
so did ccp screw the pooch on this patch as well. is anyone else having this problem. if you dont know i would check your system. seeing as this patch was to speed things up for fleet fights but yet with memory leak like this your system is more likely to freeze up before you load when your system tries to eat 1-2gigs of ram to run a single client.
now can we please get a response from ccp to say hey its your system and not our patch or admit that its on them and there great patch.
i love this game and ccp has done a great job but come on ccp, we would like to play the game and not have to restart every 5min to keep our ram usage to a normal level.
since they will want to know what i am running, asus p5n-d board 4gig ram, quad 2.66, 9800gt card, and its mainly happening when running premium graphic's..
i have cache size set to low and its still taking up to 1.2gig per account. i went further and tested this leak in none premium, when in classic it is still leaking but not near as much. with 2 accounts i hit between 500-800mb per account. seems a bit high.

Funny, this is exactly what happened the last time.
So what did you do to fix it? After it starts patching and looks like its done it just tells me I need to download the patch again.

Thanks CCP as far as I am concerned you finally managed to release a patch to be proud of. It is like playing a completely different game a whole new experience here. Eve has just become a joy to play. Although I do find myself now missing the lag is that wrong?
Thanks so much !!

Hi. Try checking your Firewall settings. When you apply a patch, the signature of the exe file is changed which means that the firewall has to be set to accept a new signature. This is usually done automatically by most firewalls, but if this was not the case, you might have to go and check out the settings yourself.

I'm seeing some correlation between alt-tabbing and abnormal EVE memory use. I played normally for half an hour and memory use stayed at normal levels, then I alt-tabbed a bit and now it's hogging memory again at each gatejump.
I'm still logging...

I cannot seem to be able to download the patch. It says "downloading patch" and then nothing happens. This is the case on both my PC and Laptop.
Anyone else getting this. Is only solution, deleting client and reloading afresh? (trying to avoid that if poss)
Cheers

The Mac client is completely broken (once again). I see a number of similar reports in this thread, and no response. What's up, CPP?
My system: iMac 24" 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS
Downloaded the patch, it installed, now EVE is stuck on startup (doc icons and menu bars indicate it's active, but no window appears.)
Please advise.

Edited by: Ravenja on 11/12/2008 19:54:22 After applying the patch I played for around 1h (just flying around and trading really) after which the client started using large amounts of memory, swapping to disk and ultimately crashing. At that point mem usage was around 1.1GB, VM size 1.5GB.
WinXP SP3, Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, ATI HD3850, premium client, no multiple clients.

I cannot download the patch.
Autopatcher just freezes at about 10%.
Tried manual patching but can't get a connection for more than 10mins, and it says it will take about 1.5 hours to download 5.7 megs on a optic connection.
Tried it with DAP 9.0. Same thing.
Tried downloading new client. That will take me 5 days, and I get disconnected anyway after 1 hour due to timing out. :(
