Boy you sure are a clueless bunch of little sheep.
This is about selling more plex! (proof is in the fact they've had 2 plex "sales" so close together and now this!)
Think about it nooblets.
The majority of plex sales come from a core group of people who buy plexes on a regular basis.
in the last 6 months CCP's been losing subscriptions because they haven't been fixing thier broken game. (that and RMT groups in 0.0 have been getting removed by the playerbase causing more sub losses)
to recoup some of those losses they advertise some little trinket for sale that you can buy with plexes.
Plex prices go up, making it a better time to purchase plexes to sell for isk so the plex buyers are essentially getting bigger bang for thier buck.
Some people get a new GFX card for well $0 and the regular plex buyers get more isk.
Pretty simple. Just how many people fall for it..... well we shall see. I bought 18 bil worth of plexes @ around 500 mil each. I'm hoping to make a tidy profit off this deal myself.
So what youre saying is, the people who just want a GFX card for $0 profit, the people who sell plexes to get isk profit and CCP profits from it too? I can totally see how this is an evil move by ccp.
Evil? I wouldn't call it that. A money grab would be a better term. In otherwords..... business. They are in this to make as much cash out of us as possible. Hilmar once believed in making EVE a game for the players, he changed from that belief once EVE became successful (over 300k subs) and went striaight into greed mode which has been ruining this game.
And it's been costing them subs all over the place. I used to pay for my accounts, now I plex them. Sure someone is paying but it's not me, and when I can't make isk to plex accounts I'll just stop playing and move on. |

Sell antiquated card for more than a 100% markup = profit Standardize legal RMT = profit Prop up plex market due to falter from hyperinflation = profit Clear out old stockpiles of plex = profit
It reeks in a multitude of ways, it's pretty low down and dangerous for the game, but it's better than thinking you can turn a profit from space barbies and fashion shills that would be better suited as bin men.
Offer up something of tangible value without empowering the hordes of speculators and you might just have found a new golden egg to squeeze out of your goose, but as of now it's still transparent garbage. The advantage of a bad memory is that one can enjoy the same good things for the first time several times.

Aside from this being about twice as expensive as real cash (not important for space rich peeps), isn't offering a direct trade for a game currency to get something of real value basically creating a currency and aren't there certain ahem legal ramifications with doing so?

I hope it will be GTX 560 Ti -448 like this:
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=012-P3-2066-KR&family=GeForce%20500%20Series%20Family&sw=
It would at least come close(r) to the Plex value. If it's a vanilla GTX 560 (no "Ti", no 448 CUDA cores) worth 150 $ it would be a total ripoff and legaly highly disputable (according to german laws at least, if not even european laws -> usury, since ISK becomes a real world currency with this trade). Not to mention that a vanilla 560 has the performance of a gtx 275, just with directx 11.
A "little" more information from CCP on what exactly they are selling would be helpful.

Please make them available for longer periods, you just know theres couple Russian or Chinese farmer dudes out there that are going to just buy them all in 10 min with there 200 accounts they have each.
So please make them available for longer and if possible only possible to be bought by people who have active account for more than 6 months or something so you keep the farmers out of simply buying a plex making a full account and buying a new video card every 5 min.
Other than that I must say that I would also like to see other pc components on the store and also since dust going to be only out on ps3 make those open for this kindof trade also.
Thx, for this opportunity I need a new video card but I don't have 20 plexes and i'm pretty sure they already sold by now..... |

oh and I forgot to mention this but 600mill for a plex????
Now that you have us b the balls I think you can just for a little while go back to the old 30/60/90 GTC prices.
How about a little respect for the cominity that pays your bills and sends your kids to school?
Not to mention that cheaper plex is the more chances you have for me (and many other) to reactivate all ther accounts. (got 5 accounts here dissabled that id like back on). |

If you would pay those with plexes, ccp is not interested.
The higher the plex price, the more people actually buy plexes. These people pay the bills, not your "plexed accounts" because when people buy someting, real money is transferred into ccp's account

OF COURSE They will give you a gtx 560 for 400 bucks; you can get one for 100 bucks. Geez, Send me ONLY 10 plex and I'll gladly give you a gtx 560 superclocked. This ISNT against the law or ccp's rules either; you CAN trade plex for items just NOT trade plex for cash or currency. So, if you want to get TWO gtx 560's, just avoid ccp's deal and send me 10 GTC's (20 plex). I swear, I'm not joking. We can even do this through ebay as an official trade, protecting you from any scam (with ebay buyer protection).
I hate nvidia. I just bought a new card, a ATI HD 6990 with 2000 stream processors versus the 400 stream processors of the NVIDIA 560 superclocked (these are estimates and you can get technicall however, there is AT LEAST a 1400 stream processor difference for the SAME PRICE).
I hate ccp more than nvidia; at least nvidia gets their **** right before making you overpay for their low performance crap. CCP on the other hand, makes us pay 20 bucks a month for BUGGED CRAP. I am however, proud that they are trying to fix the bugs now so much more than ever BUt they didnt do this cause they wanted us to get our money's worth; they did it cause they realized how many people were leaving eve because of the bugs.
It takes money to motivate ccp, not good morale. |

On what is a basically unrelated note, the technical particulars of a card matter precisely sweet f-all. The only thing that matters is benchmarked frame rates. That is all. You can have 5000 stream processors and more shader cores than you can poke a burned stick at, but if it gives you 10fps on 1900x1200 on Crisis with maxed settings, then it's a POS. |

+1 for the idea ill try to buy a card today 1 plex is worth to me the time i spent in game to make those 500-550 mil i mostly enjoyed making the isk also a lot of exagerately optimistic people here ccp says its GTX 560, so many people hopping to be 560 ti, or 560 ti 448 , dont you think they would have said if it were the better variant? also why is GTX 560 old? has been launched 11 months ago as a midrange card, for EVE you dont need the latest and greatest GTX 680 just launched is on a different price range GTX 660 is around 1-2 months away at least

Anyone know if this is just a standard card?
I'm considering buying it if it comes with some Eve-themed goodies :P Even just a logo on my graphics card, or maybe a little collectible something in the box would make this worth it for me.

Not a fan of the idea as you basically pay double in PLEX for a product that doesn't even come close to its relatively pricier "big brother" 560ti in performance and as a consumer, I would feel like I am making a really bad purchase. You could say that a PLEX is worth a month of subscription, 500m isk or 1/20th of a graphics card.
To me a month of subscription is worth 500m isk. 500m isk is worth very little. 1/20th of a graphics card that retails at (for the sake of argument) -ú100 including delivery is worth -ú5. Of those three options 1/20th of a graphics card is worth the most, to me.
To someone else the relative values of those three alternatives could be completely different. |

It's a nice deal for ppl who would like to pay s.th. with their time.
