Edited by: Whispere on 12/08/2004 20:31:22 The Star Date: Um, Sometime yesterday?
The Place: Some 0.4 Minmatar system that started with a ôFö Fhwugads? I donÆt remember. We were more worried about those tricksy billboards than to pay too close of attention to the system name.
The Partners in Crime: Myself, in a fearsome Griffin loaded to the gills with missles and jamming equipment. My friends, allies, and corpmates Saporro Bee & Leyxa (weÆre the army of three!) in a Rupture and a Kestrel, respectively.
The Opponents: I donÆt remember their names, but they were better than us. Nasty minerses!
It was our first time to fight anything that wasnÆt AI controlled and wasnÆt a hunk of Veldspar. We decided we werenÆt going to be anti-pirate, and we werenÆt going to be pirates, but the restless blood in our veins demanded we find someone to brawl. Anyone. No job too small. However, in this case it turned out to be the contrary.
We split up to scout the system. Leyxa (Lex) found two contacts in mid-range belt. We formed up in a neutral location, and like winged birds of fury we descended upon our unsuspecting foes. Unfortunately, upon closer examination we realized we were fighting a Dominix and a Tempest class battleships. Now, considering that the three of us combined didnÆt equal the tonnage of one of our opponents, and we had never shot anyone with a brain before, the obvious option should be apparent to anyone reading this tale.
Unfortunately we didnÆt consider it until later, when I was riding around in a grapefruit.
I punched the afterburners on my Griffin like a Mongoose approaching the cobra. Apparently they hadnÆt noticed us yet, or maybe they were stupefied by our courage, like a lion watching the charge of three slightly malnourished gazelles. I weaved left and right, avoiding the nasty catch of the mining drones of the Dominix as they whistled by my*****pit. I locked my jammers and let loose the fury of my DUAL! Light missile launchers, and beheld in grim satisfaction as they spelled their flashes of doom across the cosmos. My comrades also let loose, and we cheered in awesome revelry as at LEAST 10% of the DominixÆs shield was chipped away. Closer and closer I ordered my instruments.. I began a tight spiral around the now stricken (well, at least annoyed) Dominix.. going in at a death-defying 5000 meters. Only Barnum & BaileyÆs finest have known the closeness to destruction that I was at that point. Again and again I released my wicked needles of Bloodclaw doom.. pounding the frustratingly stubborn shields of the eggplant-like Dominix.
Then the mining drones disappeared. Apparently theyÆd noticed us. Oh yes! They have felt our righteous sting! Just then though, an angry cloud of Hammerhead drones poured forth from parts unknown, but little did they know that I came prepared! I smirked to myself as I punched the panel for my smartbombs. The crippled Hammerheads went somewhere else.. probably to DennyÆs to get some Moons over My Hammy, and talk about their defeats.
By now the Dominix showed at least 25% damage. Our tenacity had paid off! But I heard the roar of the TempestÆs might engines as she came about, and I beheld the face of terror.
WHOOSH!!
IÆm not sure what a Havoc missle is, but it hurts. I think it probably was as big as my poor Griffin as it streaked across the galaxy at me. So what can I say.. my morale broke.. in my best Admiral Ackbar, I screamed at my screen, ôITÆS A TRAAAP!!ö
I swung around, limping at 75% hull integrity. Desperately I picked a warp target.. until I heard the tell-tale WHOOSH as Havoc #2 hit home. My ravaged Griffin went to warp, but I didnÆt. Grapefruit life pod city.. I considered the damage a life pod angrily pounding itself into a Tempest would do, but I decided weÆd ravaged these poor miners enough, and I warped to the gate.
All-in-All, we considered it a mighty victory. We have met the enemy, and they are ours!! Well.. sort of. At least we persuaded the Dominix to warp away, we got away with our Rupture and Kestrel, and I killed a drone or two.
At least they didnÆt blow up my grapefruit.

I can't tell if you were fool-hearty or just brave... Na, I can tell it was "fool-hearty"...
You got lucky that the Dom didn't have heavy drones and that the Tempest didn't have Cruise missiles or Torpedos cuz either would have meant the doom of all 3 of you.
On the other hand... your account highlights just why I would always shoot any players who come within 30 km of me when I am in low sec space regardless of the "real" intent - but then this is why I have -2.2 sec rating now isn't it ?!? - LOL |

Yeah, newer players are often in such a rush to get a battleship they don't train the necessary skills first. My personal favourite was a Scorpion pilot who didn't have missile launcher 5. I still cannot ken how a pure Calidari pilot could go past frigates without training launcher 5. The Dominix pilot SHOULD however be scourged for not trainined Drones 5 (the only reason I can think of for not using Heavy Drones with an indy-sized drone bay). I think I got drones V whilst still in a tier II cruiser...
Oh, and not to forget, great story. I'm totally indifferent to whether it is true or not. It was hilarious, and a nice break from the usual stories of pwning others and claiming no losses :P A sense of humour is a wonderful thing.

Use mwd's on ur frigs and ull do better, then the stroy will kooler, even if it wasnt already supoib
lots of tempest pilots use 6 1400mm and 2 heavy missles. that isn't very good right now though. In fact because turrets don't hit as well now slow ass rate of fire turrets really REALLY suck becuase if you miss... better to use 2 rocket bays with defenders, you can punk ravens that way :)

One of my funniest stories involved being recruited by a Raven pilot for the Zor kill mission. Turns outs he needed help because his missle skills stopped at heavy.
So he warps in and shield tanks Zor's Raven. My little Caracal warps in behind him and I waste Zor with torps/cruise.
Anyone else see the irony? --------------

Originally by: Shanara Red Maybe when we get Mk II Pods, you'll be able to fit a 1400mm Howitzer and REALLY get them!
Somewhere, somewhenàa long while back nowàI saw a screenie of a pod with a 250mm Rail Gun attached to it. This was probably my favorite of all the screenies showing that graphic glitch where something superimposes on your ship.
The 250 was at least as big as the pod. Really was funny to see. Be hilarious to have a Pod æo Doom like that.
(P.S. I lost that photo so if anyone knows where it might still be hanging around out there please let me know.)

Never ceases to amaze me how many people do this. It is the EVE grind. Start the game and rocket into a battleship ASAP. They never listen to older players who tell them that is usually a recipe for an excellent way to lose an otherwise perfectly fine battleship. It is so hard to not say "I told you so" when they invariably lose the ship.
I mean, I have seen a Raven pilot who could not use Torps or cruise. Come to think of it he couldn't use MWD either. Sometimes you can see the guy who wants an Apoc to mine in but a Raven? It is combat ship almost exclusively!
Sorry for the hijack. I forgot to mention in my last post that I enjoyed the story a great deal as well. Keep them coming!

I once faced a raven loaded up with the uber assault launcher. I almost wet myself laughing as a swarm of light missiles came my way. It seems that he had been told that the light missiles did plenty of damage and if he could fire enough it would take most things down. Shame he decided to test it out on a shield tanked scorp loaded with cruise and torps. He didn't last too long.
n00bs in battleships are the funniest thing in eve. Especially when they try to smacktalk you into submission because there 250mm railguns and heavies don't seem to pack as much punch as your 425mm's and cruise.
Love lost, fire at will Dum-dum bullets and shoot to kill, I hear Dive, bombers, and Empire Down

That was so much better than most of the forum crap these days I'm gonna send you a couple of mil isk when I log in. If it was true use it to terrorise EVE if it was fiction use it that way anyway.
