I guarantee you that this a topic that isn't going away. It will be brought up again and again simply because it's a good idea.
The*****pit might not happen. But the frontside camera view is a veryy good and practical idea easy to implement. I'm sure it will be there within a year, because it would be stupid not to do it. (a bit like finding a 100 dollar bill liying on an empty street and not pick it up.)

I can already get a front view, and some pretty cool c♀ckpit style views, just by moving the camera.
So yeah.. Easy to implement. Just making the cΘckpits would take a little time.
5 R&D Agents, 10months, Zero BPO Offers.. Onboard navigational [Planetary Avoidance] computer.
My account will be suspended at the end of the current play period. Expires on 19. September 2004 |

To address a couple of items lost in the chaos reguarding the Prime Fiction....
-Pods allow the pilot to move the ship. -Having your crew do it would require a chain of crew issuing orders, and would not be as responsive, hence thier invention. -Ships do have crew, in fact, if you scour the site, you CAN find a few ship schematics that list the number of crew, IE the Maller cruiser requires 800 crew to run (Poor bastards, they must hate to even look at you, knowing that if you do something stupid, you're the only one who will live...) -When switching ships, the pod itself is extracted from the ship via dedicated tunnel and hatch, and inserted into the new ship, no showering and dressing at MWD speeds. -A pod cannot fit too well in the cargohold of another ship, because you are carrying not only the pod, but it's outer shell, command and control systems, and uplink apparatus...this takes up more space. -There is nothing saying that your char, at least in your own mind's eye, cannot leave his pod and command from the bridge.
I have my own ways to play this, but there you have it, straight from the established CCP Canon.

meowcat,
I support you in this. To be able to lock your camera view/orientation or make your ship model disappear would be a great change. I don't think that this would be very difficult to implement, but not sure all that would be involved. Hopefully this will be implemented one day.
Now I know this would require a lot more programming, but I would LOVE an interior camera. I don't need them for every part of the ship. Start with the womens showers, and maybe the rec hall so I could watch what's on "TV". I just hate missing 'As the Galaxy Turns'. Oh, I want TIVO so I can pause when someone starts shooting me.

The crew of my ship(s) spend their time betting on fedo fights. If not for the pod, I would die from the smell.
Hail the mighty pod.
What advantage would a ****pit view, or nose cam provide? I can't really see any. Other than it would just "look cool".
Personally, I rarely even see my ship. I zoom out all the way and click my ship (so it has a square where I am) so I have a better view of my surroundings. That paired with the scanner and some quick mouse-clicks, gives me every bit of imformation I could possibly want.
That may be why I can't understand the value of a ****pit/nosecam view. But everyone plays with their own style so I don't see what the problem is?
If people want a nosecam, I think they should be able to have one. (As in, "lock" the camera drones in a certain position)
****pit on the otherhand, I would say no to though. There is no ****pit other than the inside of your pod, among other reasons.
Now.. about the whole "clickly fest navigation fun" I WANT THE ******* ctrl+arrowkeys NAVIGATION BACK!
Why do people get so damned offended on here? It's like.. anything that goes against the way you play is automatically a horrible idea and the poster should be perma-banned, but only after they get flammed for a few hours.
----------------sig---------------------------- Dtai'kai'-dte sa-de nau'gkon dtain'aun bpi-de.
if you don't wake up, i'll have to stop kissing you. all that flailing has made you sleepy. you rest while i untie you. stay here until they find you. My hand made mannequin. i won't let them get you. they'll know you're mine by the fingerprints on your throat. isn't she lovely? isn't she wonderful? like the *****s that we are, swatting flies from the wounds we design. |

In several CSM's this has been expalined but apparently it bears saying again. In the eve universe the introduction of the pod system revolutionized the way ships are built and operated. Where they used to need a command crew of 20 they only need one and in some cases, no crew at all. The logistical advancements of this are understandably amazing. With the Pod technology came camera drone technology. This was yet another large advancement in warfare. This allows the single pilot to see his entire ship and it's surroundings, uninterrupted. Cameras mounted on a hull can easily be interfeared or even destroyed in combat. Even worse, when hit with large amounts of em energy the electricity could sheet over your hull and short out your entire camera system leaving you blind. Cameras aside a radar echo would be the second way of scanning but we all know what would happen one you started to get jammed ;). The camera drone doesn't succumb to these flaws since it is a second entity and if it is damaged or hacked a second one is immediately deployed.
Now my bad spelling and the written reason why aside I like the idea of locking the cam to the nose of the ship. I manually do that anyway, but as it has been said the time could be spent on somthing better. Logo's on ships rate higher on my list then this. (I want to customize my damn ship!) --------------------------------------------- The opinions posted here are mine, and do not necessarily reflect the goals or opinions of my corperation or affiliates. I like the idea of a nosecam. It would make the interceptors feel more real and make piloting through a 'roid field easier too.
Would it really be that hard to add in a nosecam for the ships?
