Originally by: spurious signal Problem is that our view of space is provided by a camera drone since we are actually stuck in a pod buried deep in the ship.
Much as I would like the direct-facing view suggested here I have to admit I actually like the small added touch of immersion granted by restricting our view to the drone view with the resulting limitations that entails. I like being able to see the camera drone on the radar when you zoom out too :)
There's no reason why they couldn't add a*****pit view *OPTION*. I don't think anyone's asking that the dizzy-drone camera mode be removed or forced away from you. Yes, we're supposidly in a pod, deep inside the ship. Are all the races ship designers too stupid to mount a camera on the front of the ship?
Speaking of such, WTF are pods so freak'n huge that nothing short of an indy can fit one in its cargo hold? Hell, by definition, even a shuttle should be able to transport one or more.

Well, technically its a submarine sim, but thats really got nothing to do with this issue. Submarine or space, we still need a forward facing POV.

Originally by: DeFood I suggested the same thing. a*****pit view. And had the same problems. Wierd language filtering and people who just didnt get what I was asking for.
For those that still dont get it:
1. Move the camera so its facing the front of your ship. 2. Zoom in. 3. Hold down the right mouse button and rotate 180¦
You are now facing forwards without the damned ship in your way.
I want this view to be available without having to hold down the RMB. So I can, for instance, double click. To go forwards.
Id like the same view to be available in fact when i'm "look at"'ing another ship, as its very useful to be able to synchronize headings.
But you can just double click to make your ship go forwards as its currently facing... just double click on the speed bar at the bottom of the screen and off you go

Can't we simply have a feature then, if we zoom in really close it hides the ship being viewed?

i do hope something will be done to improve the general manoeverable-ness of ships in shiva, or i shall be a bit disappointed tbh... even if this is just some extra right click options
to me, and i'm obviously in the minority so doubtless i shall be ignored, the actual piloting of ships is probably the weakest part of the game... which is a shame.

I brought up this point in the Rookoie Help channel a couple of nights ago and one or two people actually got offended that I would suggest anything like a first person view. Then they ranted and rambled about how there is no*****pit and we are just pods inside the ship etc.
It didn't matter what I said, they were just locked into the idea that I wanted twitch action FPS control, which is entirely not true. Yes our characters are supposed to be suspended in some kind of stasis in a liquid filled pod. But then I pose the question - how on earth do we see the view outside the ship at all? Also, many of the ships have*****pit "glass" textures on them. Not to mention that, as was originally posted, we don't want a*****pit view that shows the controls etc. It's just a point of view for crying out loud, nobody is saying to change the game into a first person shooter. You know you can rotate the camera into all kinds of views. You can zoom in/out. All I want (and the original poster if I got it correctly) is the ability to zoom your viewpoint in so that you are seeing what you would if the ship is facing forward and your camera is looking forward from the front (or middle) of the ship and there was no ship graphic in the way to block what you are seeing. Why not have this view available? I don't think it would hinder gameplay at all and it would make certain kinds of navigation way easier to set up.

I dont understand the fixation that some have in associating our desire for a front facing view with a full on 3d rendered in-cockpit view + twich based steering control.
I dont want joystick / direct steering control (well I do, but I understand I cant have it). I dont want in "inside*****pit" view - I understand that all teh views are delivered neurally to the pilot in an enclosed pod.
All I want is to be able to see where my ship is pointing without my (or any looked at) ship in the center of the screen interfering with the view - and interefering with my ability to double click exactly where I want to.

Its got my vote too.
I think it is a great idea, and I dont understand why it is so hard to do.?
As has been mentioned, if you zoom the camera too close to the ship it goes inside the ship and looks terrible. Just make the ship dissapear.
Sounds easy.
Though I know nothing about coding so I could be wrong. :(
