If drones were a main weapon they'd have a damage mod. I.e. instead of the missiles ballistic control system(used for missiles) you'd have a drone control system - it should give 10.5% ROF and 10% damage increase. Hell - all the drone upgrade ...

Rails don't have the worst DPS - artilleries do. Of course they have their niche with the huge alpha. Actually rails get a slightly better paper DPS than cruise missiles as well(which are also long range weapon)
