1) Crash during mission. 2a) Login again, parts of the interface (system information) don't appear. 2b) No right-click menu. 2c) Only one missile launcher reloads when prompted. 3) Crash out, login again. Same issues repeat. 4) Crash out after being told client session is corrupt. 5) Client locks up on login, crashes. 6) "Socket closed" error. 7) "Could not connect to the specified address. Odds are that something has gone terribly, terribly wrong" error type.
Moral of the story: I really wanted those five Hornet II drones back before the Mission NPCs ate them.

I was wondering if in fact compensation should be in order for the pilots of new eden? I mean we are paying for this server and i have to say in the 3 months i have been back the server going up and down like a french hooker on the busiest night of the week is not impressive.
I mean this is a pay service and we are not getting quality service, Most of these crashes are probably due to patching the server with those massive "Un-Tested" patches.. I say untested because had they been tested this stuff would not be happening correct? I say CCP should tack a few days on to everyones account to compensate for all the downtime weve been having no?

Eve does seem to be going through one of periods of lack of quality control, demonstrated by the the continuing server instability, need to repeatedly patch patches, new bugs in above average numbers and severity, old bugs being reintroduced, etc.
Not sure what is the root cause of the current malaise as I'm not up to speed with the current machinations within CCP but seriously CCP ... you need collectively to get a grip on the situation as its going south ATM.

Isn't the Tranquility server the database with an issue?
It could've been bring your kids to work day and they pulled all the leads out to use as a skipping ropes, it'd still be reported as a database issue.

I doubt those services have to go through anything comparable to the amount of code and database changes that EVE has to be subject to in order to keep us entertained. With games you have to juggle between stability and evolving code.

Tranquility is restarting following a database issue. It should be back online by 14:30 GMT / UTC.
plus the "0 seconds" which usually take 5 minutes.

If that's an issue for you; get a life.
i have a life. and a company, which it would be bankrupt in less than a week if our servers ( 2 banks, one insurance company ) would work like CCP's.
I doubt those services have to go through anything comparable to the amount of code and database changes that EVE has to be subject to in order to keep us entertained. With games you have to juggle between stability and evolving code.
i doubt you know what serious services means :)
if you compare a game with an online banking server ( which ofcourse does NOT need stability nor upgrades ), i rest my case.

Isn't the Tranquility server the database with an issue?
It could've been bring your kids to work day and they pulled all the leads out to use as a skipping ropes, it'd still be reported as a database issue.
It is a very complicated database. But what do you know? You can't even string a coherent sentance together.
Sorry, I didn't comprehend that last message, I don't know what a sentance is.

Originally by: Jannessa I was wondering if in fact compensation should be in order for the pilots of new eden? I mean we are paying for this server and i have to say in the 3 months i have been back the server going up and down like a french hooker on the busiest night of the week is not impressive.
I mean this is a pay service and we are not getting quality service, Most of these crashes are probably due to patching the server with those massive "Un-Tested" patches.. I say untested because had they been tested this stuff would not be happening correct? I say CCP should tack a few days on to everyones account to compensate for all the downtime weve been having no?
yeah coz 15 minuts of extra downtime is worth atleast a dayworth of payment, so yeah i agree, we shoudl get atleast a few months of extra subscription coz of all these crashes
*sarcasm off*
but seriously, you dont have to play(and thus pay for) Eve. So just stop playing and go play WoW, and enjoy their server crashes. **** happens live with it.

change the hamsters for wombats, wombats are bigger, stronger, tougher and have a longer lifetime compared to hamsters. also wombats are more able to look after themselves, hamsters need to get feeding, wombats feed themselves. both are rodents, so thats a similarity wich probably means the wombats are well able to fill the same roles as the hamsters.

1) Welcome to eve.
2) No, unscheduled downtime is actually not very common.
3) You will enjoy eve and be a happier person if you understand that getting upset over some unscheduled downtime is just silly. Eve is massive and complex, and unlike other MMO's - we're all on one server together. There's going to be some unscheduled downtime from time to time, and you really should try to resist jumping on the whine whine whine bandwagon, cuz it's really lame and shows the rest of the universe that you are either clueless or a teenager or both :P |

Guys just calm down, out of every online game out there this game by far has the best repair team and they generaly keep the servers up and running well all the time. If complain about server crashes every 3mounths ide hate to see yous play wow. 5hour extended server matniances on top of the 6 hour weekley matence then log in problems the na crash later in the week, then comes the failed patch. Just relax and let CCP fix the server. Rember your lucky that this is a very uncommon occurance on this game, especailly is you look at the size of it. |

Vote NO to downtime.
Ok, So i live in Australia and downtime is right at the start when i start playing, You might be thinking "Yeah, But its not really in your way is it ?" Now think about every time we have downtime we have extra downtime to fix the prevoius downtime ON TOP OF that we get bugs which take 5+ days to be fixed which require MORE downtime then MORE downtime is needed to fix the downtime which was suppost to fix the FIRST bug. So i vote to just not have downtime...Either than that i think they should stop with the new updates and make the game playable for longer then 24 hours... <3 <3 <3 |

Uhm, what? I was infact saying that you CANNOT compare the two. A gaming service needs constant fast drastic code changes. That's at the expense of perfect stability. Just check how fast they pull out revisions for EVE.
A critical service like banking needs perfect stability. You do not pull out dozens of code revisions a day and expect to have them live within a month or so.
So you would expect random ****-ups from a fast revised system like a game, and you would expect uttermost stability from a banking system.

In the good old days when things like this happened in EverQuest, the player base was told:
- There is nothing wrong on our (Sony's) end so it must be you and your connections. - The players are too stupid to understand the complex arrangement of servers so glitches happen. - A patch is being applied for the patch that was applied to the scheduled downtime patch. - Server down x hours (even double digits)? So what you losers...
So these small time outs are quite a relief to what I (and many others) experienced back in our original prime days.

680 hours for whatever the plex costs is not bad in my books.

Would probably be a good idea at some point to have Eve on separate servers - devided into 4 areas.
Only downside is you couldnt go from Stain to Jita, but you could have characters on each server and contract stuff..
I'm sure it could be done in a clever way if ccp devs wanted to.

Hello Capsuleers,
We have been experiencing some issues with Tranquility since 03.47 GMT today. It would appear that there is an issue with the SQL servers becoming overloaded and resulting in the server collapsing under the strain. Our Operations and Software teams are doing everything they can to rectify this issue and we will bring you an update as we know more.

The whole point was 15:30 GMT (or eve time) was the last message i saw from 1st crash i had, and currently the UK where i'm at is actually Summer time which is +1 hour. (info, BST.. British Summer Time)
Anyways... tis broke, i'm logged for the day, as always dev's of online games always try to make games better but end in turning things into ubber bloatware which always creates more problems than before upsetting loyal paying customers like myself. I'd try World of Wazz craft but i hate those 3D level grinding piles of steamy pants, but there again theres nothing worth looking at these days and everythings the same... games don't have to be all 3D shinny things to be good... come back the late 80's lol... was better then i think.

This is what I think. They are slowly implementing the code, and watching it break TQ. It probably worked on Sisi, but since the test server doesn't have the load TQ has, they didn't get what they were looking for.
But alas, looks like GH:WT and damagedealer.com are going to get the majority of my time today.... ------

This is the very first time that I have ever bothered to read these threads. I know nothing about Computers or servers or anything even remotely close to what you guys are talking about. But seriously. Come on. Get a life. Your world won't end because a video game crashed for a few hours. Really it wont. Go let the wind blow on you. Get out of your parents basements and see the sun. Find a girlfriend, boyfriend, whichever. I can smell the nerd pheramones from here.

I don't post in these threads either usually. However this get a life argument is plain stupid. The server down is affecting so many people exactly *because* they have a life. They have a job, a wife, some have kids etc. and that means they may only have that one or two days a week to get their fun out of the game. If the sever is down in that timeframe it could also be down a whole week for all they care.
People who have no life will just order some pizzas and proceed to jerk off on inet pro0n. Because they can play *whenever the server decides to run*. Unlike the people who have appointments and families to care for.
Yeah, sorry son i know i promised to come to your baseball game but look tq was down yesterday so i need to play today. --

I always suspect that the people who are least annoyed by cluster failures are the ones who don't have a girl/boy friend and / or live in their parents basement. After all they have all day, everyday.
Those who have jobs / families / lives etc often only get a brief window to swap skill etc and tend to be the most angry at finding that which they paid for (actually if you read the EULA, you will find what you have paid for, is the right to access the cluster if CCP feels like it today) isn't working and they are going to have wait till tomorrow etc.
Then someone with a religious objection to paragraphs and readability, comes along to tell them they are nerds. If that wasn't bad enough, then there's the hamster joke....

Hello CCP,
What could possible cause the sql cluster to **** itself, unless someones been fiddling with production code in the background with noone being informed.
Unless of course its a vulnerability

We have been experiencing some issues with Tranquility since 03.47 GMT today. It would appear that there is an issue with the SQL servers becoming overloaded and resulting in the server collapsing under the strain. Our Operations and Software teams are doing everything they can to rectify this issue and we will bring you an update as we know more.
I am a data analyst to earn money to feed my eve time. I find it ironic that I have SQL troubles at work and want to go home and relax by playing eve, but now eve has SQL troubles. Since I've been in CCP's shoes numerous times, I feel for them. Good luck with the issues, and I hope you don't go crazy getting things up and running again. |

BEST RESPONSE EVER
Thank god the servers have typically decided to be unruly while I'm at work :)
I don't blame people at all when they get irritated about game outages. We all pay for the game and, yeah, it is unrealistic to expect the game to NEVER have problems... but it's just as unrealistic to expect people not to get bent when their limited playtime is interrupted or cancelled entirely due to a bug when they're paying $180/yr to play the game.
