Awesome work! Looking forward to seeing this develop. Thanks for your efforts on this Flammard in providing a native App for Mac users like myself.

Hey there. Just grabbed the linked build:
http://www.mtyson.id.au/MacEveApi.dmg
And it's crashing on launch. Here's a snippet from the crash log:

Any ideas? Or is it something to do with the patch?
Thanks!

I'd wait for the patch to be fixed and try again.
Hopefully, real soon now........

Edited by: Flammard on 20/08/2009 21:28:09 I've looked at a couple of the crash logs I received, it appears the SkillTree.xml.aspx file that was downloaded was 200ish bytes long, which is bogus. It should be about 300kb. It looks like the CCP EVE api server wasn't properly online when you ran the app for the first time (and instead of popping up an error message, my program decided to explode).
For those of you getting the crashes, please open up finder, go to your home directory and navigate to Library/Application Support/MacEveApi/ and delete SkillTree.xml.aspx and start the app again.

I guess the external interface is offline. This is what is inside the xml I get:
<eveapi version="2"> <currentTime>2009-08-20 22:19:03</currentTime> <error code="902">EVE backend database temporarily disabled.</error> <cachedUntil>2009-08-20 22:24:03</cachedUntil> </eveapi>
So I guess we wait eh?

Yep, Not a lot can be done until CCP put the XML API server back online.
I'll rewrite the routine that fetches the CharSheet.xml page to handle the error better, the current routine is a bit old and crusty.

Cool stuff, well, as soon as the API is back up and running I will be getting myself all set up to use it.
Looks as though you have had great feedback from other people, so I am definitely excited.

i believe the API server always goes offline for a day or so after a major patch. i guess they want to make sure the main game system is fully stable without the added burden of the API server possibly adding to any problems that occur. -- ---

Edited by: Flammard on 23/08/2009 04:44:29 I've got a preview of the next release if people care to try it. It has the character overview page (mostly working, but incomplete). Before I push out the release I plan to make it so that you can update all characters at once (instead of doing each char manually) and add a few more UI tweaks.
Linkage
What I want to know is what data do people want on the character overview page, as well as any other general comments.

smexy!
In an overview i like to take a glance and now things just from that glance. While having the date the skill ends is very useful, having the time remaining until the skill finishes training is even more, since it prevents me from doing any math :P. Also, having a "X skills in queue", and Queue ends at X (with/instead of skill) would be very helpful.
I have noticed that the program won't remember where the window was last closed, and always opens in the same spot (for me is between my 2 monitors), which leads to an inconvenient constant window dragging.
Finally, is there a possibility to make the char overview in a condensed manner? Something like: Name - <Skill finished training in> (in xD xH xMin xSec) but in a separate, overing window (like the black HUD one, or even in the top bar).

The new Icons look great, although In the overview, could you make the names clickable? It's just a lil thingy that might be useful, but don't really prioritize it :P And also, I forgot to mention earlier, the skillque only updates when I refresh, So time remaining could be 4 days, but the skillque showing 4 days 3 hours because i havn't updated, also only minor, but has confused me sometimes ----------------- Yay!! |

Anyways, If the API includes Certificate information, what about a Certificate browser, where you can use "Add Certificate to plan: (Drop down menu) Plan 1, Plan 2 etc

cool app, but can you add evemon import to the todo list? maybe i'm missing something, but the 'new', 'open', 'save', 'save as' menu items are grayed out and i really don't want to manually add my skill plans.

Ok, sounds like a good idea
Originally by: Dansel although In the overview, could you make the names clickable?
I was always going to, but I haven't gotten to that part yet.
Originally by: Dansel forgot to mention earlier, the skillque only updates when I refresh, So time remaining could be 4 days, but the skillque showing 4 days 3 hours because i havn't updated
The queue only gets updated when the page is redrawn, I've had some problems with getting it to update every second. (The update only seems to fire every 3 seconds and the countdown looks all stupid). If you change to another screen and back to the character sheet it will force a redraw and update the timers. It's just a graphical glitch, nothing to do with updating the character sheet.
As for the Cert planning, I probably won't do it in the next release, but I'll try to add it to the one after.

Those new / open / save menu items don't do anything as I have never hooked them up or removed them.
I'll look into an Evemon import mechanism for the release after next.

Just downloaded the testversion and am really happy!
Few things:
-the icons in the top bar look awesome -with the new overview and (soon) clickable characters there, I wouldn't mind if the dropdown menu for choosing your character would disappear -in the overview it would be nice to see the end of the skill(queue) as folllows:
- date: Wednesday, 26 August <2009> 1900h
(where the year doesn't really have to be there I suppose)
- eta: 1d7h51m20s
(this means reformatting the current end of skill(queue) and adding the ETA)
-leave the name of the app as it is, but please get a nice icon (I got used to the name and like it, but I can't get used to the icon .. )
-I also agree with earlier comments about the app remembering last windowlocation (and please also windowsize)
-the 'HUD' idea with skillqueue/character stuff sounds cool too, not sure about the usefulness, its more a funky addition I think.
And probably a bug:
-the app seems to check the API every minute (contacting api.eve-online.com and retrieving /char/CharacterSheet.xml.aspx). The CachedUntil is set to 1 hours in the future (GMT). But as I'm GMT+2 my local time is one hour later than the 'CachedUntil' value. I suspect the app might confuse GMT and localtime and therefor querying every minute. (I suspect querying the api server every minute isn't expected behaviour, right?)

Edited by: Rottenator on 25/08/2009 10:22:39 Oh and maybe something to think about:
Make the overview a drawerpane. (one that slides open to either right or left) personally I think that will look nicer than it is now.

Are you sure about this? The app doesn't auto refresh the character sheet at all, it's still a manual process. Could you check the logfile (located in Library/Logs/MacEveApi.log) and double check that it is constantly hitting the API server? (and maybe email it to me)

Yeah that could work well, I'll try that and we can see how it works for general usability. It might be easier to write as well.

Awesome. As soon as that's in I can finally stop booting into bootcamp since I have an EFT replacement in pyfa and I can replace Evemon with this app.

Meh, I'm pretty sure tcpdump gave me that result yesterday, I tried it again today, but no no avail. Even tried all the other eveapi tools that I have here for testing, in case one was still active when I tested yours, but can't find it anymore. I'll keep an eye on it, but apparently it's a failure from my side.
