Found it by accident, but awesome app, love it.
suggestions:
- double clicking a skill opens a new window, every time you do so. Would be easier/less cluttered if it just refreshed the already open info window - show training time with different implant sets (+3 vs +4 etc) - show training time with optimized learning skills

hmm, I actually like having multiple windows open, it allows easy comparison between training times. I might be able to make this an option or something. I'll have to see how easy it is to do first.

Yeah, good suggestions. I'll hopefully implement them in a few releases time.

I've seen the post but I've yet to download and play with it. I plan to write my own ship fitter, but it is a while off yet. There is still more work to do on the skill planner before I can move on to ship fitting.
I hope to have a new test release out on the weekend that has a character overview using a drawer. It's proving to be a lot easier to write than the current test version which has a separate screen for the overview.

Ok guys, new test version.
Instead of the separate sheet for the character overview, this has a drawer. Also, the toolbar is now customisable so you can remove the elements you don't want.
The drawer version of the overview allows you to select the active character, so you can do away with the drop down box.

Let me know what you think.

Awesome work!
The window does indeed remember where it was left (as well as the size!), and the character pane is great!
I noticed a few problems with the customizable toolbar though: 1. I need to restart the program to leave customizable mode 2. If i drag one item out (say... Skill planner) i can't put it back inside (so i just lost skill planning in my test version :P)
A few suggestions: - Add a hotkey to reload chars (or even the other panes as well) - Use the same system for toolbar customization as you see in safari - (again) When reload is pressed, all chars should be reloaded - Don't let the character pane be dragged, and allow it to move to the other side (with a button or just dragging it whole)
Can't wait for the next release!

really like the way the drawer contains the characters, that's awesome! but i like that you've also left the drop down menu available in the custom toolbar pane so that people can use that instead if they prefer rest of the app looks great too! keep up the great work!! -- ---

New release is out, barring any bugs or other brokenness I'm going to tidy up the skill planner a bit.

I can't replicate any of this, are you sure it still does it?

1 - Done 2 - I'm not sure what you mean 3 - Done. I hadn't forgotten about this, but it was a bit of effort to make it work due to (boneheaded) design issues. 4 - The character pane will open on the other side if there isn't enough room on the left.

I'm sure. just updated to 1.5 and does the exact same thing. And this time i have no buttons at all (just reload - and the hotkey works fine btw).

Nice work so far, but i do in fact have some further Feature requests:
1. EveMon Skillplan Import
you already mentioned that this is coming, do you have a ETA for this
2. Battleclinic Loadout Browser
As far as the Loadout Browser is concerned, the nicest Feature EveMon has is the ability to Select a Loadout, and add the skills needed to fit said loadout to a skillplan
3. Skill Certificates
Being able to add all the skills for a Selected Certificate to Skill Plan

Edited by: Flammard on 31/08/2009 00:51:44 Yasuuko: It looks like there is a bug in my app that manifests in Leopard, but it works fine in Snow Leopard. I'll have to look at it in more detail as I am not exactly sure what the problem is.
I've upgraded to snow leopard so testing this could be a bit tricky.
taiwaz: All of these are on the to do list, but I don't have an ETA yet. Maybe in a week or two, but no promises. I need to fix a few bugs in release 15 first.
Zief: Cheers for the feedback.
The Skill planner hasn't had much attention recently, I intend to work some more on that and make it easier to use and display more useful information such as ship and item info, as well as certificate info.

Suggestion:
One of the biggest drawbacks with this app is that it takes up so much screen space, so I usually end up having to close it every time. But What if you enabled something like a minimized mode, where only the Character overview window would be shown. (And when you click at one of them you get this cool Zoooooom effect and then you see the normal window) It's not really necessary but you have to agree, this app does take up some place, and it's somewhat frustrating when you dont have 2x 24" screens to deal with
Also, the drawer seems to suffer the graphical glitch that it wont update as the skill que
And if you que up mulitiple levels of the same skill, they will all show the same level but diffrent time. ----------------- Yay!! |

Interesting idea, but it would take time to implement which I would rather spend on the skill planner for now. I'll keep this in the back of my mind when I revisit the character sheet.
I've spoken to other people about an interface redesign, but it would take a lot of effort for no extra increase in functionality (which is sorely lacking in the skill planner) . I'm going to focus my efforts on that for the next few weeks.

Yes, I know. I don't intend to fix it soon.

That was a bug I accidentally introduced when I was refactoring a lot of the skill cell code. It will be fixed soon.

Version 15.0 shows only the reload button, and shows only character sheet, even so database is updated.
Version 15.1 has same issues (only reload button and shows only character sheet, even so database is updated). |

For those running leopard who have a broken toolbar, please try this version. Linkage
As Snow Leopard is a fairly cheap and painless upgrade, I don't intend to keep maintaining leopard support forever, but I will try and keep it working for a few months. I don't have the time nor reliable access to a leopard machine for development and testing.

I'm going to be redoing the skill planner. If anyone has any ideas for layout or presentation I'd like to hear them.
I'm going to address a few of the issues raised such as importing & exporting evemon plans, as well as renaming them. Making the columns configurable. certificates, checking training times with new implants / learning skills.
Who prefers the EveHQ style of plan layout? For example, instead of having skills listed like so:
Amarr Frigate I Amarr Frigate II Amarr Frigate III Amarr Frigate IV
EveHQ instead gives you: (excuse the crappy formatting) Skill | From| To | Time Amarr Frigate | I | IV | Xd Yh Zm
Which for a long skill plan, can reduce clutter quite a bit.

I prefer the current display
Amarr Frigate I Amarr Frigate II Amarr Frigate III Amarr Frigate IV
I say this because i like to organize my skils in terms of time (train all skills that take 30m to train, then the 1h ones, etc.)

Flammard,
The current display format works for me too.
As for suggestions, aside from all the usual ones you're working on, there is one thing... A while ago there was a meme floating around a few of the EVE blogs where pilots were posting the pie charts of their skills (here's one example). I know EVEMon has this feature, and I think EveHQ has it too. It's not an essential feature, more like eye candy, so feel to add it to the "yeah, maybe some day" list.
Thanks again for a great app - keep up the good work!

Ok, looks like the EveHQ style isn't so popular.
This update might take me a little while. I've ran into some design issues that will take me some time to fix.
Pie chart is an interesting idea. I'll add that to my to do list.

Ok first of all, sorry for the lack of progress.
For the last week or so I have been refactoring a lot of the code to deal with character updates, as it had some pretty severe problems. I've also been reorganising the source tree and cleaning up a few other problems.
In a couple of days (When the code is semi-stable again) I plan to release it as open source (GPL v3), so if anyone is interested in joining in on development then let me know.
