I just wanted to leave you a big thanks for this app and the free time you are spending in doing this for all the Mac community here. Its a great app, and I think its going to be greater still.
Please, keep up the excellent work! I'll download your code to mess with it, and see if I can understand something... :)
Thanks!!!

Hey Flammard, Here's a little bug I thought it may be worth to add to a todo list: - When there are several skills in queue, the calculations of the time for each skill are not contemplating the atributes and the learning skill. (hence, something that is masked as to take 2 hours, takes you 1 hour effectively).
I'm using the Leopard 10.5 build, so maybe this issue is fixed on the 10.6 one...
Thanks for the amazing work!

Psikon: Is the portrait area grey? or do you get the exclamation mark?
If it's the exclamation mark then you will need to delete the old portrait and the app should auto download the new one. If you go to ~/Library/Application Support/MacEveApi/<accountid>/<characterid> and delete portrait.jpg
In a future version I'll add an option to re fetch the portrait.
Crassus Detlator: It calculates queued learning skills correctly for me. Are you under 1.6 million SP? If so then that is probably what is causing the training times to be all wonky. My app doesn't know about the training speed boost.

I'll throw up a new test version tonight. Functionality wise it isn't much different from the current release, but the internals have been turned on their head. It may have a few crash bugs in it still.

Edited by: Flammard on 24/09/2009 11:24:47 Here's a test version. It has a few bugs that I know about, which is why I haven't released it.
So far the only visible improvements are
Enable, disable and Reorder columns in the skill planner (see preference screen) Bottom status bar displays plan length. Evemon plan importing. (Evemon XML format only. This only works properly if the skill planner is active). See the "Planner" menu bar item.
Please note that this version lacks the auto updater and crash reporter. So you won't get any automatic updates or the ability to submit a crash report to me.
10.6 Snow Leopard only.

Awesome, I've been after a EVEMon type util for the MAC and this is great start. Love the layout.
Haven't had chance to give it a good review yet as I have just downloaded it.

And somethings that'd be cool if implemented: Showinfo on ships in the skillplanner

Ok great stuff here!
Now, is there a way to follow the progress without constantly following this forum thread? How about a twitter account for the application-that-doesn't-have-a-name-yet ? Or a blog with proper news feed people can subscribe to, where we can also find release note?
Thanx and keep up! We mac-heads are in need of great EVE tooling.

Mr. Flammard Sir,
\this is one mozo app, looking very forward to what else you will introducing soon(TM).
One thing though, did you disable the item database or am I just being thick?? Followed your instructions and after the restart it says all databases are up to date but not seeing where I access the item database.
Anyways, really liking it lots and looking froward to your notion of including a ship fitting tool too. Would you be ably to include a loadout analysis tool, possibly being able to port the loadout from eve itself and see how it compairs, like fitting one can now find in ones corp hangar?
Anyway, many thanks for all you have done so far.

Yeah, I haven't got around to that yet.

The database adds the ship tab to the skill planner, there is no generic item browser yet.
Ship fitter is a while off yet. I'd suggest using the new python based fitting tool. Some people have made efforts to port it to the mac.

I've uploaded a new test version, This has a few minor tweaks on the old test version.
Plan renaming. (Right click on plan in overview) Columns will remember what you resized them to.
Reordering of columns is done in the preference screen and takes effect after restart. (yes I know this is back-asswards. I'll try to fix it later)

Seems to work fine for me. One thing that strikes me tho is: No character auto-selected from start, and Still no auto reload upon start.
Otherwise it works great! -----------------

Just one small thing i just noticed - having blitzed my iMac and done a clean install of Snow Leopard, i'd lost all the previous files from when i've run this app before. The first time i run the app, the following error occurs. Retry continues to fail. Choosing Quit and then starting again works, I assume because this time the file is in place.

Just downloaded it, and after a few hits and misses (on my part, was too excited :) ) I finally have it up and running, and it looks MAHVELOUS! I do have a question about ship-fit apps... I saw on the website a ship fitting app called TightFit. Have you or anyone else tried it, and if so how do you like it?Thanks for an awesome EVE-Mac tool!

Did the 'new database update" and restart, I see ship names, factions, and types but nothing else. I assumed if you kliked on whatever ships you own in game it would show... something, or maybe you'd see prerequisites for a particular ship. Am I doing something wrong? Does it take awhile for information to get from "there" to "here"?What am I missing?

Interesting. I'll have to look at that before I do the next release.

I haven't actually written that yet. Dragging a ship into a plan will add all the prerequisites for that ship to the plan, but there is no ship info window yet. I'll add that when I can (hopefully soon).
I haven't played around with tightfit yet, I have dabbled with the python fitting tool pyfa though. It seems to work reasonably well. You can find it in the "Ships and Modules" forum I think.

I'm quite interested in this program, but I'm confused as to why you've made this 10.6 only? With all the negative reviews of Snow Leopard that I'm seeing for OpenGL / EVE performance, I really can't justify upgrading to 10.6 for a utility.

Been using this for a couple of months now and it's a real gem of an app for us Eve/Mac types.
One thing that I find counter intuitive is the Characters drawer. Here's the current interaction:- - click on the Characters icon - the drawer slides open on the right of the screen, outside the application window boundary (even though I know where the drawer appears my eye isn't naturally drawn to the right, if you're going to make stuff happen outside the application window make it so obvious even an old duffer like me can't miss it!) - click on a character in the drawer to set the active character, an action that doesn't always give immediate user feedback (for instance if clicked when on the Skill Planner and there are no/similarly named skill plans set up) - clicking on the Characters icon when the drawer is already open closes it which again is counter-intuitive if you're looking at something on the left of the main window in Character Sheet and just wanted to change the active character
Characters and Character Sheet are really crying out to be a single window within the current application window boundary:- - the list of characters down the left hand side, same info as displayed in the current drawer (or consider removing some of the redundancy of data displayed between the drawer and the active char) - the active char info central - the active char skill browser on the right
As well as this make the window title Mac Eve Tools - [Active Char Name] so that there's an obvious visual reminder of which character is active for when you're using the skill planner.
Appreciate there's a lot here, but I really think simplifying some of the interaction would make a big difference to the usability of the app!
Cheers for all your efforts so far!

The character window defaults to opening on the left, but it will open on the right if there is not enough room on the left.
Quote: - click on a character in the drawer to set the active character, an action that doesn't always give immediate user feedback (for instance if clicked when on the Skill Planner and there are no/similarly named skill plans set up)
That shouldn't be too hard to fix Quote:

The button is there to toggle the drawer pane. I'm not sure how else you would want to do it. Having separate open and close buttons is silly. Quote:

Yeah, good ideas however I want to improve the skill planner first. I think it is in need of attention at the moment. I'll come back to the character sheet at a later date. The problem at the moment is if I make the current window any bigger someone else will complain that the program takes up too much screen space. Quote:

That's easy enough to do

I don't have access to a Leopard machine for testing or development any more. I've had some bizarre problems manifest on Leopard but not on Snow Leopard which I can't debug or test and it really makes the program a hassle to support.
It shouldn't be too hard to get the app working on Leopard again. If you or anyone else wants to maintain a Leopard version then get in contact with me. My email address is at the bottom of the first post.

Bug: Empty skillplans after update.
Well ... not really empty, but it looks like it. I suspect it is because the preferences for what to show in the skillplan view are not yet readable at launch of the app, so it doesn't know what to show and thus shows nothing.
Easy workable fix is going to your preferences ( command+, ) and change the columns you want to see on the skill planner (doesn't matter what you do as long as you change it). Then close the app (command+q) and reopen the app. Then you're precious plans are back again. You can now set the columns you really wanna see and enjoy this awesome app.
