Just reminded myself today that somewhere in 2004 or 2005 I saw some dude posting this idea of fps on the forums. Thought it would be interesting but CCP never would catch on and somehow these crazy mofos actually are implementing it and tying it into New Eden.

Yeah.. that makes sense.. every console shooter that has been released has been a total failure in the marketplace. That explains why Microsoft nearly went out of business when they released Halo 2 to a public that didn't want anything to do with it (only 8 million copies)... Then, they made the same mistake releasing Halo 3 (a measly 8.1 million)... I think the only console games to EVER sell more than those had Mario in the title. You're right... releasing a FPS console game is business suicide...
Why should we care about your opinion of what makes a good console game, when you start out by saying that you hate consoles and everything they stand for?

Where did they say that? They said that the efforts of the 'monkeys' would be a PART of sov... This is all getting completely rediculous... The real shame is that not a single one of these unfounded emo ragers is actually going to quit. It would do such blessed things to the servers if they had...

Interesting idea. There are a few problems that I hope they address.
1. The people who normally play on consoles and do not play PC games, (While I am not including everyone, obviously) are they going to actually pick up on a title that is a complex as eve is? Now I know that a lot of the aspects of how it interacts with the overall universe is probably going to be "Watered down" to compensate for A. Console limitations and B. To reach a wider audience. But speaking in general terms eve is so far gone from the console market I fail to see how the gamers of that platform can fit in seamlessly.
2. Coordination between the two games. How will this be accomplished effectively? I know lots of console gamers who are really great at console games, but give them TS or Vent and they would be completely lost. Things that are second hand to PC gamers aren't necessarily the same for the general console audience.
3. Call me biased, but I dont think that I am alone in that I dont really want to play games with a bunch of 8 year olds, eve's older gamer audience is one of its best points. If this ties into sov, imagine if you will, trying to discuss grand strategy with a bunch of kids on Xbox Live (who's demographics are much younger)
But hey, I think that the idea is inventive and could lead to greatness, the main hangup here is going to be seamlessly integrating the two communities.

I dont know how far out this thing really is, but IMHO shooters dont mix with gmes like EVE.

Guess what. They are not mixing. The best you can hope atm from the current info is to chat with a dust commander who is accepting your contract to assault/defend one of your planets. Then the outcome will be a small factor in the new sov equation. Other than that there is zero interaction between eve and dust.

I would be ok with this game if we would be able to play it on PC's but it looks like it will be a pure console game.
I just have one question. Will EvE players loose one whole EvE expansion just because of Dust? Developers will probably be busy with making connections between games, but overall, will we just get few features that will effect only Corp/Alliance PvP and nothing else because of Dust? No new toys next year?

why dont ccp just develop a mouse and keyboard for use with the game consoles and dust. and the (cough money grab) "collectors eddition" comes with a mouse and keyboard that can be used to interface with the game

Sounds cool, except shouldnt it be the other way around? Like put the exciting FPS game on computer and put the zzzzz spreadsheet game with limited controls on console?
As a PC gamer and FPS lover I give 0 credibility to any FPS on console for the simple fact they do nothing for the genre but give a watered down, outdated training wheel experience from their PC counterparts. They are behind in almost every aspect from game design to controls. The only thing worse than a FPS game on console is developers developing on console who can be safely viewed as sellouts. But I guess I already had this view of CCP, so nothing new. But FPS games on consoles will suck gauranteed for another couple years until the consoles at leaste get modern FPS controlers among other things.

This is only a good thing but please ccp. I dont know how but keep the 8 year olds away from us oil and water so on. I have xbox live i play online there all kids i dont use the mic as i get fed up of someone trying to play music down the mic........

Make it so you have to have an EVE Account. 8 Year Kid problem solved. No parent is going to pay $15 a month for a console game. Also HIGH LEARNING CURVE (CLIFF) is ftw.
Remember guys this is only one part of the new Sov Mechanic.

i think dust isnt meant to be dominated by those with the highest twitch skillz. it will be dominated by the side that can deploy more equipment (this is where the eve alliance comes into play) and has the better tactics.
