Could it be that you have two version installed? One 2005 and a 2008 ?
Edit: LOL we posted it in the same minute. And I see you resolved the issue.

Thank you for the update!
I tried out the new features and have some feedback.
The WP generation (moving them up to the top) and sorting (on the left) are great. The added remove all above option is also very useful.
The core functionality of the search by item name is good, but the way it searches makes it difficult to use. I'll expand: - You can only search by item name (and not by type) and it has to be exact . - In use this makes it so you have to do a lot of searches depending on what you are trying to accomplish. So if I wanted to search for all my normally traded modules I have to do a search for each one (I just went down the list on my hotbar) . . - In game you can search several things, such as ammo for all ammo or plate for anything that has plate in its name. . - The Item Name is not saved between sessions or even in the same instance (if you close the Route Planner window and go back you can't select from the pulldown. If you do the search from the Assets tab and then go to the Route Planner tab you can use the pulldown. Restarting the program removes everything but the first item from the pulldown (both Assets and Route Planner) . . - I basically did a search for all my traded items one at a time and was fine redoing that search (about 40 items) using the pull down name, but having to re-search (by typing in the name) all those items every time I use EMMA makes it difficult.
A couple of bugs - If you populate your waypoints but don't have a start or end system the program will crash. - If you search for an item using an improper name (such as just 'Scout') you get an Unhandled exception.
What I have moved on to doing is using another program that will sort the systems by total asset value in that system and adding those systems to Route Planner.
Thank you again for the update and I look forward to future ones! ~ MaddB

evening everyone,
I've used emma in earlier versions but I'm having trouble installing this version. I've been trying for a few days now and I've hit a brick wall, here's where I'm at:
uninstalled old emma downloaded new emma from link on first page of this thread installed 32bit sqlexpress 2008 and changed setting per readme deleted folder ...Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS per readme installed emma with setup.exe per readme
I have 32bit vista rrestarted the computer multiple times.
first time opening emma it ran though opening procedures and asked for permission (and got) to download updates. The first update did not install and timed out but the rest updated successfully then the updater said to restart emma. Now when I start emma I get 'Emma has stopped working...a problem has caused the program to stop working correctly, widows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.'
Hopefully it's just a setting I'm missing. Thanks for any help you can give.

It's certainly possible to do something like that, I'll need to have a think about how to present it though.

will look into that.

Sounds fairly terminal... From your information, I guess that you've ended up with versions of different components that are incompatible. If you uninstall EMMA (through add/remove programs) and then reinstall from the installation package then it should sort itself out.
Your database will also be preserved (uninstalling will not touch the DB files) --------------------------------------

I'm aware I've been a little quiet lately, it's been a bit nuts at works. I am however, looking into the issues that have been raised (and a few others I've found) when I get a chance.
The next big development on the agenda is still to upgrade the assets gained/lost system to handle production. It's a way off though, there are several bugs to fix before I start down that road and a LOT of work to do before it'll be ready for general use. Rest assured though, this is still an active project. --------------------------------------

Funnily enough, I was just thinking that area needed some enhancements.
I'm planning to add a 'loan' type of investment as well and you'll be able to specify gained items as collateral, etc. --------------------------------------

Since you've asked, I'll post these instructions I wrote up a little while ago but never got around to posting because I haven't had a chance to test them with the new versions of EMMA.
Install SQL Server 2008 Express (The basic version at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=01AF61E6-2F63-4291-BCAD-FD500F6027FF&displaylang=en is easier to install, especially since it already includes SP1. I use SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=B5D1B8C3-FDA5-4508-B0D0-1311D670E336&displaylang=en, but the advanced features are not necessary for EMMA.) - Use x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) as appropriate for your system - If necessary, install any missing prerequisites for SQL Server that the installer tells you about - In Feature Selection, check Database Engine Services. Other options are not necessary for EMMA, but you can add them if desired. - In Instance Configuration, select Named instance and enter SQLExpress (this is the default option) - In Server Configuration, select the SYSTEM account under Account Name for the SQL Server Database Engine service Restart Windows Update SQL Server to SP1 if necessary (through Windows Update or from download at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=66AB3DBB-BF3E-4F46-9559-CCC6A4F9DC19&displaylang=en) Restart Windows Install EMMA Run EMMA
I didn't experience any installation issues with either SQL Server or EMMA when following these steps with a clean install of SQL Server on a Windows 7 64-bit system and a Windows XP system.
If EMMA doesn't work, you may need to try quick fix #2 from the README:
2) Delete the following folder: Windows Vista or later: C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS Windows XP: c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS You may have to stop and restart the SQL EXPRESS service (through control panel -> administrative tools -> services)
However, I didn't need to do this. I suspect this is necessary only when upgrading from SQL Server 2005 and not with a clean install.
Quick fix #1 should be unnecessary if you properly configured the SQL Server installation as described above.

You can't, EMMA is not designed to work with those files. What it does is monitor the eve API and pull relevant data from there (i.e. transactions, assets, etc) --------------------------------------

Ambo,
Not sure if this is something I can change on my end or if it changed with the last big update so I'm not sure if it's your problem or mine but is there any way to make EMMA minimize to the tray instead of the task bar like it used to?

Yes, if you go into settings -> other settings, there is a check box 'Show EMMA in taskbar when minimized'
Previously, EMMA was just not shown in the taskbar when minimized. This was changed recently so that it is configurable and the default behaviour is to show EMMA in the taskbar. --------------------------------------

I've been using EMMA for some time now. Mostly to keep track of which items I trade 'work' best for me and to keep tabs on my NAV. I have two characters that I monitor with EMMA.
An odd issue I can not explain is the following:
When i calculate NAV for my two trader chars say going back 7 months and showing numbers in ISK per month I get a lot of negative numbers.
I'm quite certain I wasn't 1B in the red last month.
This result (bug?) means I cannot easily gauge my monthly NAV increase.
Is this a known problem and is there a fix? Doubt I'm the only one with this problem. |

Edited by: Valandril on 06/10/2010 08:58:09 At this point i'm confused. In main post you imply that emma doesn't require license (and then confirm that in replies). So i decided to update my old version (for which i had license) and now i get app error that my trial license has expired and i need to buy it again (i had in my old license from way-back-then and i don't have that evemial with toon/code anymore since i sold that old toon). So what is the actual status of emma because this is quite confusing. I understand that you may want to capitalize on your work but then make it clear in the OP. Also if that's the case, please do evemail me a trial key for toon "moar iskies", if it's better than the old emma, i will certainly buy it.

can you give me some more details? Which parts of the NAV are incorrect? (i.e. wallet, assets, etc)
Beyond a month or two ago, you may well see ridiculous NAV figures due to bugs that were in older versions. However, it should be fine now. I use the NAV report a fair bit and it always seems accurate.

Ah, when this thread was created, a license was no longer required as I wasn't really working on it at all. Now that I've started working on it again, I've reintroduced the license requirement. If you already had a key then just eve mail me from the char that bought the license before and I'll send you a new key (I'll check my records to see if Valandril or Moar Iskies are there and evemail you a key if so) --------------------------------------

An update to the auto updater has been released.
This is in advance of a major update that prepares EMMA to work with the API changes announced here.
This requires such large changes to the database that I've had to come up with a new way of supplying the updates. This meant changes to the auto updater itself.
Unfortunatley, not everyone will get the auto updater change before the main database changes are available. This has been catered for but will mean that you may have to update and then receive an error message from EMMA asking you to update again.
To prevent this from happening in the future, the updater has also been modified to only update itself if an update for itself is available. It will then update everything else on the next run. --------------------------------------

1.5.2.13 is up. It fixes the problem with looking for updates over and over. Other points listed below:
- Corrected a bug that could cause an error if a start and/or end system were not supplied in the route planner.
- Corrected a bug that could cause an error if an invalid item name was supplied when adding waypoints from assets in the route planner.
- Items entered in the route planner 'add waypoints from assets' section will now be stored in the recent items list. Next time the route planner is used, the item name drop down list will already contain these recent items.
- Corrected a bug that caused incorrect cost values to be set for items bought via contract. This only applied if the contract was created and later modified to correct an incorrectly entered value or something.
- Corrected a bug that caused the 'not lost' and 'for sale via contract' options in the assets aknowledgement screen to function incorrectly.
- User can now select multiple rows in the gained/lost item tables in the unacknowledged asset changes screen. If the gained/lost reason is changed while multiple rows are selected then the new reason will be applied to all selected rows.
