Fixed. The cross-overs almost universally sucked anywayà
While I'm glad that it is just Vampires I would disagree that the other games sucked... It's just that they were different games. Werewolf: The Apocolypse was splatterpunk, it was all about ripping people in half and impossible odds (not least because they were fighting the wrong enemy (the Weaver being far more dangerous to Ghia than the Wyrm). However, as separate games they don't play well together, immortality means very little when you know someone who can literally change all of the rules of reality around you.
Mages in a computer game, Assension mages at least, would almost certainly suck. It might just about work for the Technocracy or the Order of Hermes but the limited number of effects possible within a coded framework would lead to spells as opposed to magic... Forces + Correspondence can be used for more than Fireballs after all --

You dont think offering gullible middle-class kids a chance to talk about their inner selves and suffering in return for money is a good business plan?
Yeah, this, and the fact, as I understand it, VTM has a MASSIVE following. So it should be pretty win for CCP. Look how mental everyone goes after the video is finished. I actually think, by design or not, CCP makes good calls on what demographics to go after to build alternative games (to the industry norms). Most people in the MMO industry only ever seem obsessed by being a 'WOW' Killer, and I guess who would blame them. But pure profit as a drive to build games tends to reap bland games. CCP is an indie studio that does not seem to lose its roots, even after how much they have expanded. It's been a long 7 years, but right now CCP is in an awesome place to make good MMOs, it can take risks and be cutting edge.
What's more interesting is that when you consider EVE 7 years ago, and what it has grown from in relation to CCP as a start up company. Think of everything CCP wanted to do with EVE, but at the time was unable to for monetary and technical reasons. Both WOD and DUST514 are not going to be chained to such restrictions. CCP can realized its whole vision for these games right off the bat.

You don't have to be gay to play fantasy games. Not being a complete jerk usually suffices.
And why would it be bizarre? It ensures that there is not too much overlap in target audiences for EVE and WOD, so that WOD actually attracts additional customers as opposed to taking them away from eve. - Don't let the trolls stop you from giving a helpful reply. :) |

Incarna will presumably be out first (plan is summer 2011, WoD is planned for somewhere in 2012), so in a way we do. And CCP will probably let their community know when a Beta-test is going to be planned.

I really dont think I implied at all that you have to be gay to roleplay or even enjoy roleplaying.
I was strictly meaning just what I said - that it seemed like an odd demographic switch from one particular game to another particular game.

What real difference is there between immortal bloodthirsty humans in space, and immortal bloodthirsty humans on Earth?
Like i mentioned in my last post, you can thank Anne Rice for creating the idea you have about vampires. Twilight is a continuation of the same garbage, and i hate it all as much as anyone, but it's not the final word in the genre. White Wolf's vamps aren't the kind of angsty teenagers you find in most pop culture.

Maybe not the original intention, but they are the target audience for the game. If you spend any time with larger fan groups of the VTM you will find that it is dominated if not by angsty pop culture influenced teens then by angsty pop-culture influenced 20 somethings.

Maybe, but those who started playing it back when it was good have now turned into pop-culture influenced 40 somethingsà (angst is optional).
àand I do believe that VTM was very keen on the good old "age and guileà" quote, soà ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Was speaking more about the characters and stories WoD has compared to the average Vampire fare, not the fans. It simply having Vampires will make the Twilight crowd show up, and they'll probably retch at the first sign of blood or the sound of a neck snapping.
The main difference to me is in WoD you're more apt to see Vampires loving every minute of being one and feeling like gods than you are ones feeling sorry for themselves. Which is why i find their Vampires more realistic. Anne Rice had this 'ooo, poor me, i'm an ageless superhuman' thing going on which wore thin after awhile.

The Incarna expansion will expand EVE to the type of players that like a sci-fi setting but don't like being a spaceship all the time and want an avatar to connect to.
DUST 514 will expand EVE to players that like a sci-fi setting but are console players or want a more fast-paced game (an FPS).
At the same time the current EVE (that we will continue to evolve) will continue to appeal to sci-fi players that want a more slow-paced strategic game.
World of Darkness will appeal to a different type of people so it won't (directly) compete with EVE and DUST 514.

Why would being gay have anything to do with the demographic at all? Jeez, some people. Gay people have been playing Eve since the beginning and are no more or less likely to be attracted to a vampire mmo than they are a spaceship mmo.
We enjoy the same things the rest of you do ffs. Some of us like Vampires, some of us like spaceships, most of us like both. Just...like...you.
