I think they're probably going on how effeminate male Vampires have become in a lot of movies. Which doesn't mean gay exactly, but it still conjures confusing feelings in the hearts of those guys who are militantly hetero. You know the type. They put a lot of effort into appearing as straight as possible for some reason.

Brilliant.

Equally brilliant.
Originally by: Ghoest I find it completely bizarre that CCP has decided to switch to the gothic woman/gay male target demographic considering that they build the company with EVE.
It's called diversification but honestly, that's a pretty small-minded view to have. They will get more interest from a variety of demographics than the limited selection you mentioned. .

Yes, please release that trailer. I'm tired of looking at the back of that guys head and watching a trailer from the side. Not cool.
And if it's anything like VtM Bloodlines, I may wet myself.

I will most likely, when WoD comes out, quit playing eve to play WoD.
As a hard-core P&P World of Darkness gamer since near the beginning (I played my first V:tM game about 18 years ago), I'm quite pleased to see that it's not just Vaporware.

I am looking forward to this game, if only for the epic emo-rage threads from all the kiddies expecting puppy hugging sparklepires.
More to the topic at hand, any chance of the vid in question uploaded to youtube? Although we probably have to wait for the official announcement to hit the White Wolf page.

For fan boys out there just a hint that you won't be seeing other super naturals as a playable race since different game lines run at completely different power levels for example a wimpiest of a werewolf would easily beat the beefiest of Brujah, only things that werewolves (or garou as they are called) are vulnerable are 'mind ****' and silver. Same issues go with the rest of the game lines in OWOD, they just don't mix that well and are impossible to balance for an online game without screwing up the feeling from P&P game lines.

Yes in "Interview with a Vampire", that last scene between Louie and Armand was kind of.... close....
but this notion from Anne Rice's work about vampires lacking in desires - being somewhat celibate, was a stepping stone.
Gone was Belle Lugosi's Count Dracula who was known to like the ladies and Bram Stoker's Vlad on who this was based was all to pieces over a woman.

What Iam curious about is if CCP ever plans on releasing a single player game.
It seems odd that 3/3 if the games planned to be released are either MMOs or Online FPS. Is this due to the single player market being that bad compared to MMOs?
Its seems more suicidal in my mind for a company like CCP to release a Online FPS considering the amount of competition in that market aswell as CCP not being well known in comparison. Where as EvE has grown so well and lasted so long because its a unique niche style. Same goes for the planned WOD MMO which hits a broader niche market,
Personally Iam looking forward more to WoD then iam Dust514. So long as WoD is based more off of VTM and not the emo/homo Twilight type vampire persona.

I don't see CCP getting into the Single Player market. DUST 514 is most likely going to be the closest thing they get. More and more Single player games are going online more now. People want persistent and or DLC so either you get more MMO type games or Single player games which are persistent and have some MMO elements. There is also not too much in the way of a fully blown MMO FPS, and obviously non which connect into another MMO. Right now the closest thing would be MAG that I know of.
Obviously with Carbon now they have a big basket of goodies, but after WOD and DUST I'm not sure if they would invest in building more games for a while. Your talking about a company going from 1 MMO to suddenly having 3. They will need to iterate, and see if DUST / WOD are successful and start to pay back on the companies investment before they want to invest into another game.

Yeah, Vampire myths trace their origins to Succubis and Incubis, so the celibate thing is a step away from that. However it started a long time before Anne Rice, with blood drinking replacing the more intangible act of draining someones life force via sex. In modern versions, WoD included, Vampires just use their seductiveness to manipulate members of the opposite sex into doing things, and blood is often just taken from any living thing with no need for such subtleties.
It just occurred to me that male vampires becoming more androgynous looking in modern versions may be a response to them feeding from both sexes instead of being specialized in just the opposite sex, like succubis and incubis.

I personally can't wait for this one. I just reinstalled VTMB a couple weeks ago in anticipation of this. Also if anybody is interested, you can pick it up really cheap on D2D. If you haven't played it, you certainly should. It is one of the most underrated games of all time and still holds up quite well today, years after its release.

I think the drive for more MMO's is the hope to keep stringing players along on a game that has no end so you keep playing and paying rather than having to constantly 'reinvent the wheel' with a new title every few months (development taking years). They also almost "can't lose" in that they can sell you the mmo game with a month of play time for the price of a game that you own and can actually beat. With an MMO they can still charge you to keep playing whereas the single player game all they can hope is to sell you an expansion or two, likely a year or so later, with most likely less sales than the original title.
I doubt it is suicidal to make Dust514, though I personally don't see the 'got to have it' aspect of the game, maybe as time passes more will show how it is 'unique' and 'worth it' to play/try/get. From what I see I'm not the only one questioning it, though here people might have different motives for doing that, I'm so over FPS games and don't see anything 'ground breaking/OMG' about what DUST514 is/will be.
