I guess it's so when they release Walking in Stations in the year 2500 earth standard time, they have the room to assign Item IDs to every atom in the game.
Also, no more crashing a node by dumping 10,000 bookmarks into a shuttle and purposely blowing it up outside of station? awww...
Modern database isnt excel sheet with pre-made id numbers from 0 to (2^64) - 1. database is filled and carbage collected in very effient way nowadays. size of 2^64 entries is just an option, enabling less shuffling of old ID numbers when they would still be needed.
edit: meaning that if you happend to have 2^33 entries youre database size is 2^33 * data_space

well i wasnt quite sure about how ccp would handle this so i chucked a 16 day skill in the que. but i have to say thanks ccp for keeping us updated. theres nothing more annoying than been told it will be done at this time only to find its done 3 hours later and no one bothered to inform us. (the people who keep a roof over ccp's collective head.)
thanks ccp =)

"Outside" is overrated. I mean yeah the graphics are good and the physics system is perfect. But it's a real PITA to do anything - you think training skills in EVE takes a long time? That's nothing compared to Outside. Plus even when you get your leet skill set there's still no guarantee you'll be able to get anywhere with it. Plus you are forced to interact with the environment in weird ways (especially donating to the sewage system several times a day, for nothing in return). Some experiences are very nice, but the system for dealing with death really sucks, you will wait forever to respawn, if at all. Nah, I'd rather play something else.

Originally by: Vriesend Thanks for keeping us up-to-date! As others have mentioned, frequent updates during downtime are a rarity from most MMO developers.
As for the folks complaining about paying to play but not being able to play right this second because of updates: CCP has yet to charge for any of their updates or expansions. What other top-tier MMO has done this?
troll
lol, they ("other top-tier") are charging for new content, when have you seen new content in EVE last time ? And did that new content bring anything really new to game, apart from not seeing who is in local.

Well, updates and all.. gj and so forth... but announcing a 1 hour delay 15 minutes before servers supposed to be back online... THAT is just a tad bit unprofessional unless its an emergency...
Hrrmmmpfff this makes me realize I am proly an Eve-o-holic.... SOD it... CCP take the time you need, plz get it right so we can enjoy the evening...
Though may I say if we had been at my workplace, and you where our service supplier you would be facing a governance board and some serious debate aboute contract penalties...
Maybe you will find it in you heart to dish out some free SP to compensates us?

CCP - this update may be taking longer than you expected (as always) but at least there's good communication. Thank you.
and since it's delayed two hrs, I can go nap for a bit, without feeling guilty that I'm not mining for the corp JF.

CCP work their ass's off just so you can play a game.
Stop giving it and let them do it. If they just let you play it at the time they "Thought" it would be done then it would be broken and would be ****. Then you would moan again. They can't predict ALL the problem that will occur.
Nothing is ever on time. Welcome to life.
Maybe a thanks would be better than telling them how annoyed you are that you can't mine or grind missions like a ***. Booo hoo. Go for a ****.

Anyway, thanks CCP for a great game.
