What era and type of ships. Like WW2 Japan or ancient times wooden vessels.

It used to be "Metal (Noun)" (Ex: Metal Bludgeoner, shield tanked torp SNI)

But now I am going to start picking metal elements, like Cobalt, or tungsten.

I name all my incursus either Gawain or Sir Gawain or some variation thereof (The Green Sash for my dual-repper version) due to the giant lance and the green/blue color of the ship.

Usually it's based on the look of the ship, though sometimes I'll throw in something based on its function (e.g. Junkyard is my salvager ship, doesn't matter what ship it is)

All of mine are named from the 2nd Edition AD&D Monster Manuals...cuz I'm just that much of a geek. They corresponde either to the ship's function or it's size; or both.

My station trader here has one ship. It's a Caldari Shuttle named Guidomobil after a both very bad and very hilarious election gag used by the ex leader of the FDP (economic liberal party) in Germany.

Hehe, I named one of my Bestowers "SS Edmund Fitzgerald", just popped in my head as the thing to do.

When I got my Impel recently, I googled "Famous Blockade Runners" and named it USS Britannia (hmm, maybe that one should be HMS). I've got an Osprey named HMS Hood, after the ill-fated battlecruiser sunk by the Bismark. I try to keep my ship names within the class and such, but for the most part I name them after US or British ships of the 20th Century. If I ever decide to fly a carrier, I think I'll name that one USS Ronald Reagan.

I am a huge fan of Iain Banks "Culture" novels and so I use a fair few of the ship names from there.
