Unless I am missing the option it would be nice to have one that lets you tuck in t-shirts and have trousers go over boots. The more I have played the more annoying I am finding the spinners as there doesn't seem to be a great deal of drag room and the scroll doesn't work that great. (might just be me) I think as I said before an intensity for facial hair would be nice as well so we have have some "light shaved beards"

It's probably been mentioned somewhere. But when setting up portrait photos two things are needed:
A confirmation for the final selection.
A button to reset the expression to neutral - or the ability to save facial expressions.

Could do with several options with the glasses. Just varying the tint does not cut it.
Also please can we have hats
Seriously though a cowl for Amarrians would be good.

I only got a brief look at the previous character creator before it went offline but I think this one is amazing. The rendering quality looks very good apart from a few points. The main areas I'd like to see changes to are...
- The colour pickers for sections like hair don't correspond well with what gets rendered.
- The primary and secondary hair colours often seem as if they should be the other way around.
- More options for grey hair would be good, since most of my characters are old.
- The colour of facial hair doesn't seem to correspond well to the hair colours chosen (after moving the facial hair offset slider to get it to render properly). Maybe the colour and intensity of facial hair should have a separate control.
- A few areas are clipping where they shouldn't. If you put on a long outer garment and look at the thumbs, you'll see this. Granted, this is a minor point.
- The character's movement during sculpting is a little too much. I'm not finding this as severe a problem as most who've posted here but I think it could be toned down a little.
- I know art assets are WIP (this leads on to my next main point) but yes, more hair styles (like the long Intaki ones), more clothes, etc.
Now, in terms of how and when we use this... I'd hate to think that we'd all spend 23 hours one day in January using this then never see it again. It's a lot of work from CCP to be used that little (yes, I know we'll see the results of it when Incarna comes along). During the time I've been playing Eve, I've changed my hair style a few times (IRL), my facial hair a couple of times and my clothes reasonably often. I haven't had any plastic surgery, but the fact is that quite a few parts of our appearance are not fixed. From the old Fanfest demos of Incarna, it looks as if we'll be able to change our clothes at will, which is good in view of CCP's approach of iterations. It allows the addition of more clothes on an ongoing basis without penalising those of us who use the character creator on day one in January. Likewise though, it should be easy (and either free or cheap) to go back to the character creator at will and change hair or facial hair. In real life, I decide on my facial hair from day to day by picking up a shaver (or not). Changing more fixed parts of our appearance takes a bit more effort but I wouldn't mind if we had to pay a little to go back and do some plastic surgery. (To limit people going wild, maybe the degree of changes to facial structure could be used to calculate a plastic surgery charge in ISK, but the question of charges is a side issue.)
I would just like to be reassured that after a prolonged session with the character creator on the release day, I won't be stuck with the results and no option to fine tune. It makes sense to me to be able to make changes later (possibly with the ease of doing this in game proportional to the ease of doing it in real life), especially since it allows further art assets to be added after the release date.

Khanid female:
* why can't I look paler? The lightest colour still looks like a sunburnt beach colour. It's horrible! * I want a bloodline remake option! Khanids can't possible look like they used to anymore.
General:
* The "primary" hair colour (which actually is the secondary, shade colour) also colours the eyebrows. Unless you use a very light colour, the eyebrows are pitch black which looks extremely unnatural/fake like I painted my hair if I pick blonde; why not a seperate eyebrow colour selection? * The long hair "over the shoulders" textures are horrible; * Please if you randomize pick something decently looking and not some freak; * Choosing a colour in a black and white palette? It's terrible! * There's no natural looking green eye colour; * Females muscular? I hardly see any difference!
I have close to 0% confidence this portrait creator will be ready and user friendly mid january.
* close to bursting into tears *

High shaders
Good: Most advanced character customization to date. Aion set a new standard not too long ago and this just took it to the next level.
Bad: -Wanting more hair styles and clothes to choose from, mostly hair though. -Choosing colors seems difficult, the little box's are just too small and its hard to tell what color is what before you select it. -When moving the muscle groups it would be nice if there was a slider of some kind to indicate how far you can go.
Bugs/Problems: -When you change stuff such as face features the hair "resets" so it jumps around very unnatural like. -Some of the hairs styles will clip through the face (mostly saw this with a few female hair styles) -When moving muscle groups game feels very lagged/choppy
Suggestion: -You get 4 portraits during the creating, would be cool if it saved all 4 instead of just one so you could switch them out during play if you wanted. All 4 could be viewable in the profile and you select which one you want everyone to see. -If only the rest of eve online had this kind of detail! *cough* premium texture updates for ships and everything else too plz <3 *cough*

yesterday i finally got time to play with this shiny new tool, my overall opinion is that this is very cool, but i'd like to mention a few things: 1. MORE COLORS! seriously, for hair you have 3 or 4 similar red tones but no neonish green blue or even pure white hair, also i want more clothing colors, also more clothes and hairs. 2. Clothing should be more loose, like if i have a indrawn belly, the "outer" jackets are stuck up to belly too, and thats not cool 3. why bloodlines and races are so differed from last character creator? I can't seem to get even near the looks i have now with gallente intaki character, also their nosetips are strange and every try got me into russian looking guy 4. color selection bars are too small 5. there aren't much enough freedom to sculpt your character, couldn't you make more sculpting ablities, like more dragging, and also height bar like wight and muscularity, also head shrinking/expanding ability (this is needed for most parts: eyes are always the same size, which somehow makes everyone similar to each other)
Although i found this very good, all i need is more freedom for sculpting and more colors, i certainly don't want to see everyone walking in stations same height and with same sized eyeballs and heads and foreheads with similarly colored outfits. I wouldn't mind waiting for this character creator until summer, if i had more capabilities in sculpting my avatar

Well, I really love this! Keep up the good work.
Looks amazing and surely the most lifelike character creation tool in an MMO.
At first it was rather confusing, since you have to use the trial and error approach what kind of change will come out of any dragging/mouse movement on the character. But as I spent more time with it, those issues disappeared. I began to have great fun then.
Mostly I missed a scrollbar under all the options, it seems that I can't jump 5 or more styles without rendering at least one.
I also was disappointed with the eyes and the hair. You cannot adjust the size of the eyes and all available styles look similar. Same with eyebrows. Some of the faces would have looked more credible with smaller/larger eyes or stockier eyebrows. I seem also be unable to color them independently.
Then the tattoos, the face implants (Caldari Deteis), any kind of jewelry are just plain missing.
And the make-up section for females need nail polish.
tl:dr absolutely great CCP, needs a little improvement tough.

Color pickers. Now, are you serious. I pick one dark black color, hair goes intensive brown, I pick another black, hair goes freaky yellow.
"Face hair color offset" is especially unintuitive. Sometimes I go extreme right, beard gets black, other time it is light yellow. Face hair color changes itself when changing style.
And yes, where are the neutral gray tones ? So far it is black-brown-yellow mostly.
Lots of previews do not correspond with actual rendering. I pick some khaki'ish pants, they are intensive black actually. Especially "poses" do not have nothing in common with the actual look.
Scrolling in an option windows - unresponsive and unintuitive.
Portrait in a final window is placed too low. Eyes are below center line, all top space is wasted. If you zoom in, mouth goes below bottom line at all.
I understand that clothes now are placeholders. However, can't help myself but to be afraid of scenario like this: - this will be released with a couple of clothes for each race (now we have what, 3 ?), and they will be very similar between various races anyway. Because there will be not enough time and further delays will seem unacceptable.
This actually will be acknowledged deep inside some devblog, hidden under devblog'ish joke. Further improvements will be thrown into infamous soon(tm) basket. Then, in a couple years, additional clothes and options will be finally added, but we will need to pay - both for new pants/glasses and for portrait change.

Yes it's not very clear. How it works though is that when you drag the slider to the left your beard stays black regardless what hair color you choose. If your beard was of light color and you drag the slider to the left it doesn't change the beard color until you re-apply hair color. So if you leave the slider half way your beard and eyebrows are influenced by the hair color. If you want to keep your eyebrows and beard black then keep the slider to the left. |

Edited by: Szena on 19/12/2010 16:08:49 k, my first impression was the same as posted many times: wow! what a character creator. i designed and clicked a long time and i'm still impressed about the features, but...
.. then i came to "clothing" and -sorry- WHAT A CRAP /caps I designed a female caldari civire character and you can't be honest. I'm not a girly that spends half of her live in stores looking for the perfect shoe (or whatever), but after i've chosen the last curve for my body i clicked the first trouser and my first thought was: ok, why tons of polygon parameters when the clothing doesn't show a thing of it. not to mention that i can choose between 10 shirts with 2 different skins and 5 textures. i can choose between shoes looking like a metal box or a commander keen boot.. sorry ccp, as long as i don't want my character walking around naked this feature is just a waste of ressources

Wow, just wow. Did seem a bit choppy/laggy for me.
Did three pertraits, yeah the face is centred too low, but the fourth one i did was just being silly. Very close to the camera so the lower third of the face was gone. Clicked save, thinking it would save all of them, but it's back to login character selection and the dumbest portrait is now the one my char has.

She had a few options for clothing (like the top she has on) that were not available for my minny characters, so I have to imagine they will add to the variety. The long hair clips badly in the animations, but looks good in the portrait. The new standard for avatar creation in an MMO, i thinks.

Edited by: July Shine on 19/12/2010 16:59:56 I'll try to be polite here becouse i really don't like the new character creation system. I would like to say that it's the ****, but that would be too easy.
So i'll make a try to explain you what i don't like:
1 - It's extremley difficult to customize the shape of the character; using that crap option to pulling and push the nose FOR EXAMPLE is just too limited and confusing to use.
2 - Hairs!!! OMG all the hairs are ridiculous, there is not a single hair model that i like and i think i could use. This is mostly for male hairs. I want more long hairs, why can't i have smooth plain hairs on a male avatar?!
3 - Clothes: they are too few and they suck.
4 - Glasses: they are too few and they suck.
...to make it short there are too few things to customize the character and most important of all, the way to customize it is hard to use confusing and limited.
EDIT: i forgot to mention that the whole system is SLOW! it is boring to use aswell.
I made SEVERAL characters, but i'm not happy with them, not a single one. I was never able to make a char that i liked!

Please ADD more Glasses, not only Sunglasses. Also in the Backgrounds Section it would be cool if we get some of the old themed Backgrounds back (Guristas-Angel Cartel Background ?) More Clothes for better customization, the current ones i don't feel there are enough. It could be a little confusing getting the right changes in Color especially in the Hair/Makeup parts.

bugs: -sometimes the controls are waaay too sensitive. Almost unmanageable. In some cases, it jumps on first adjustment -scrolling through the options (with the mouse scroll, without selecting anything) is buggy: sometimes it works, most of the time it does not -could the modell stand STILL for a moment, at least while I'm dragging the invisible sliders? -the glasses do not toggle with the "toggle clothes" button -had lights/shadows cast by hair flicker constantly.
cons, missing features: -it is much harder to get a given expression, e.g: threatening. Where previously it was trivial to get that even from female characters, now all I seem to easily get is the "frightened bunny" look. -Variation is good, but please make an option to "zoom in" the libraries. This would be very useful for the backgrounds, as to click through the 78 one takes way more time! -very small variety for trousers (basically 2 models, recoloured into 9) / glasses (again, another model would be welcome) / jackets (only 2?) / shoes -hair styles: 21 is great, but seems to be there are mostly "flagrant" and short types, rasta, various shades of bald... it's a shame there are no "normal" hairdoos, and asymmetric short hair (e.g.: combed to the side bangs for women) is also missing. Out of my three characterys, it seems only one can have the old hair. Also, no ponytails for men? WTF? The only "longer" hair is a rasta, other than that, there is one with maybe 10-15 cms long. -no inner clothes for women? Discrimination! -zooming on the legs, not only the face. 60day ETC |

Just was able mess around with it last night for several hours. Overall, I am very pleased and it is pretty intuitive.
*My biggest concern is what the portrait pictures look like - see below.
Pros: - Looks great - Easy to understand/manipulate. I got the hang of everything after messing around with one character go through. - Generally good variety, minus exceptions - see below.
Cons: - *As mentioned above, the placement of the characters when taking their portrait pictures is WAY OFF. The gap between the top of the frame and the start of the head is too big. Maybe I haven't figured out how to move my character "up" more into the frame, but when I take pictures for my portrait, the gap between the top of the frame and the top of the characters head is WAY too big. It looks like the character is falling out of the photo. Please fix it so that you can move your character up to be in the picture frame more - like the original portraits. - Variety for clothing is lacking, IMO. I made female/male for every race but Caldari and the clothing options seem very limited/similar. Basically, there are these options for every race to look like either a punk rocker from the 80s or Marty McFly from "Back to the Future." I couldn't find any real "race" specific type clothing as you do in the original character maker. - Addition backgrounds for portraits would be nice. Less "one/two color mish-mashes" and more realistic backgrounds (interiors of ships, chairs, etc.). |
