For the sake of everything user-friendly: Stop this annoying head-movement of the char.
In a sculpturing-editor with such a sensible scaling, the whole head-movement can destroy whole face-sections. Make a toggle-button for it please.
Otherwise im pretty much impressed.

Ok I like the tool, and love the options with it,
Suggestion - Below each section have a scroll bar down at the bottom instead of doing the click and drag to go through sections.
Second - offer to save a template, as we have a grace period to change portrait, let us save the settings for each portrait we make and let us sleep on what we make, or for some of us like myself who have older video cards, we can see ourselves in our full extreme glory.
Third the intaki arent very intaki. Please note that most intaki have long hair worn several different ways, all i see i long sparatic hair and dreads. Im sorry, im not a brutor nor did i get into a fight with an electrical socket, or saw einstein's stylist. You need more long hair styles for intaki.

This leads to another suggestion. Allow us to redo the portrait at will, as many times as we like, forever (perhaps attaching a moderate isk charge). It's thousands of years in the future, how hard can it be to get a self portrait done?

Edited by: Candente on 18/12/2010 02:42:03 good to see there is visible improvement on the new char creation system compare to last time where my Dissenter female wouldn't load :p
I have a big complaint on "usability": using mouse wheel on browsing selection of components. It is just downright frustrating because sometimes the selection moves according to the mouse wheel, yet most of the time would yield unpredictable movement or no movement at all. I finally figured out the "correct" of browsing a selection... which is to hold down my left mouse key -___- please do something with this, seriously.
Since my rig is not pimped, I was running char creation on low shader option that could give me a reasonable FPS rate. Apart from the known artifact problem, I've encountered one failure of loading a new eye model. It only happened once and I couldn't reproduce it.
Lastly I urge the devs to release a guide on how to do sculpting on large body parts where it is not intuitive to map the direction of movement of mouse to how the action affects the system.
Edit: I assume Incarna will let us dress our character with more variety of clothings (and hopefully make new portraits that way). ------------- rawr~ |

The character editor looks very good so far and I have encountered any major bugs. It was also possible to create new avatar that I find quite pleasant looking and somewhat resembling the original portrait. Tian Jade 2.0
As a request I think that tatoos are a requirement for minmatar and should be included perhaps even as a race exclusive feature.
No major bugs or crashes or invisible textures for me and again, nice work CCP.

i think the hair styles need to be relooked at massively i mean half of them look like helmet hair either combed one way or another and yeah i dare say ccp are you trying to make me buy a super computer i mean the program is like impossible to sculpt the face because its so slow and not lag is cause its not on net i assume i think the application is just so heavy on cpu usage im guessing...to be honest i think you need to put character customization in incarna

After a lot more experimentation, I'd have to agree with everyone who said the head movements of characters can be a real pain when you're trying to sculpt.
I love the new heavy-duty movements, and would be very sad to see them go, but would it be possible to minimise/stop the head movement when your mouse is hovering over the face/head...? I don't mind the character looking off to the side; if I'm sculpting it's waist..... Or like someone else suggested; have it 'freeze' a bit more if you hold down CTRL. I wouldn't personally want to see it lose (all) movement; blinking's cool...
Another (surprising) source of frustration, for me, has been the symbol-backgrounds. I haven't watched them long enough, but they all seem pretty okay to me *except* the Amarr one. For some reason, it *seems* to move faster than the other ones, and I don't know if it's because of the 'pointy-bits', but when I'm trying to sculpt a face, and the face is trying to turn the other way, and some pointy thing's rotating in the opposite direction, while a roundish bit's going the other way - for some reason, my brain goes "Aaarghhhhh....!" (a bit) ;)
Could you slow it a little? Or make the bits go in the same direction?
Also, your gravity solver seems to have another problem with hair. If you pick the hairstyle that looks like it has pleated dreads, coming down both shoulders; like pigtails, then it settles on the shoulders and breasts quite happily, but if you then add a jacket with a high collar (Amarr?), they start bouncing around (a bit like snakes) trying to settle into position and failing.
After a day of experiments, this is what I've come up with...
Brutor Male 'Blind' Sebiestor Female Intaki Female Gallente Male Civire Female Civire Male 1 Civire Male 2 Amarr Male Amarr Female
No doubt, I'll do more tomorrow....

Same.
Other stuff:
- I can't seem to change the shape of the eyes. Is that intentional? I should be able to at least change the height, otherwise everyone will have the same eyes.
- Sculpting the face when some hair is selected (not bald) is very laggy. It almost looks like you're moving the hair, and when you let go of the mouse button whatever you sculpted shows up.
- There is generally a lot of lag while sculpting, with what looks like a 'loading' spinner showing up a lot.

1.) The portraits are a tad low. I'm stuck with 1/3 of the portrait being the background above the character.
2.) Lack of gray color in hair colors. Red colors are either orange shade or strawberry blond, no dark reds that don't have brown overtones.
3.) Can't separate the beard and hair colors. Need to add separate color adjustments for both hair and beards.
4.) No buzz cut look for hair. It's either flat on the head or nappy looking.
5.) Need some variety in the style of glasses you can choose. Not all of use want to wear aviator glasses.
6.) Can't switch portraits after you pick one. Would like to be able to use all 4 snapshots.
7.) Noticed you could not see anyone elses portraits once logged in.
8.) Where is me hats?!?!?!?!?

Edited by: Tres Farmer on 18/12/2010 05:00:44 Edited by: Tres Farmer on 18/12/2010 04:54:53 1) first loading didn't enable the sculpting feature.. had to hit the 'Customization' icon in the top left corner to get the sculpting to work 2) [NEED] option to toggle hair, like clothes 3) eye brows look bit worse than 1st version.. to hard imho, very apparent 4) the 2 colours for hair don't make much sense, and the darker tones have somewhat unexpected results 5) [NEED] export/import option 6) horizontal rolling menus are not smooth, might be just my system (Ati Radeon HD4670 or mouse) To me it seems, the scrolling stops at some choice and no matter how much more you scroll with your mouse-wheel, it won't go any further.. although there is more to the right/left. You have then to pick the next one in the direction you want and can scroll a bit further. 7) [NEED] arms crossed pose (was in 1st version) 8) [NEED] shadow from hairs while posing/taking pictures.. last bit reality is missing there for me 9) using the mouse scrollwheel in the menu on the right causes to zoom in the main window.. very irritating (shouldn't happen!!!) 10) [NEED] intensity regulator for those lights in portrait mode (the left highlight is to strong imho) 11) [NEED] modifiable positions for those high/fill-lights in portrait mode 12) [NEED] lights to respect fixed mater.. light setting 25/36 causes highlights at the underside of the nose.. for this to happen the light would need to travel TROUGH THE HEAD! 13) [NEED] could the final picture creator please get some antialising/blur/noise.. the result looks to much CGI 14) why had the size modificator for the eyes been removed? 15) [WANT] an option to see my char in some room once done (read, until we can really walk around). Just a cubicle will do. PLEASE!!!
Rotation of upper body part around a vertical axis in portrait mode is nice.

The sculpting isn't reacting to the movement of the head.. it only reacts on your mouses movements. In other words: the relative position of your cursor and the head doesn't matter anything.
Though I gotta admit, this time around the head movement is very strong. Was better in first versions. Think the OP mentioned that this time it's to strong.

I'm liking the improvements. Found that facial control is lost in the portrait screen if you go to the naming screen and return to it, I didn't try to recreate the bug though.
I had a crack at remaking my character, added some tattoos because he isn't the same without them. There had better be tattoos in the final version! Malen Nenokal v2

Signed. Absolutely. I mean - come on. Hell, eventually our "portraits" should be animated real-time based on what's happening to our ships. But that's something for the future.
Of course, the animations would have to be generated simulations of our characters since while flying we're immersed in pod-goo - but still.

CCP doesn't want just tall/short running around.. Also our pods look all the same and are made for one-size-fits-it-all.

Very impressed with how this has improved, however would like to suggest to those developing the art assets that male eyebrows are terribad, at least on the races I tried, either Neanderthal or Dr Spock, and the non-military style hair for men is either some variant on emo or Elvis. The menus on the right hand side were awkward to navigate from one end to the other.
Really liked the interface other than that.
The different races/bloodlines don't feel very distinctive to me, it would be a lot harder to tell the difference between character races at first glance.
And, like everybody else said.. facial decorations would be nice. Implants/tattoos/jewelry and what not.

Usability has much improved since the first showing, It's great to work with now.
- I do have some issues with the "spinners" though as they can be a bit awkward to move sometimes and hard to get from one end to the other fast. (this was easier when someone pointed out you hold and move not click flick to try and spin them)
The stuff you don't want to hear about but we love screaming about. - The skin tones need to be more varied, while it's nice Brutor have the darkest skin it would be nice to see some other options for the other races/bloodlines. - Facial hair could really do with a slider for intensity so you can have a "lighter beard" instead of a fully grown in one. - There still doesn't seem to be any of the customization options from the old races and bloodlines (only sunglasses) - Strong lack of formal looking clothes at the moment (I figure more will be available in Incarna but would like to take my snapshop in something other than that one formal shirt) - The option to choose if boots go over or under the pants would be nice. - Hand decorations (gloves, rings, watches)

I'm sure those that RP would love to have their faction logos on a backdrop, or perhaps the crests of their respective Militia.

why aren't we using the keyboard to model the body? WASD would work a heck of a lot better if you could activate say, the torso, and use the keyboard to make the toon fat or skinny.

I don't like the recent changes to the Achura female facial features. I like the previous version far better. Also, one of my favorite hair styles was removed. Its kind of hard to describe though.
With these changes, I would support the 1-time option to change race/blood-line. Sex change could be weird with existing names though.

Improvements over previous versions are obvious, overall UI is much intuitive and easier to use.
issues:
1) Scrolling through options is weird. I rotate mouse wheel, but icons don't move at all, or suddenly jump 4-5 steps ahead 2) Racial clothing is a must imo. generally we need more clothing options, I hope you guys are working on that 3) more (and better) hairstyles? 4) Tatoos. we need them. 5) glasses. why are all glasses the same? also you can't remove them unless you undo. and why aren't there options for normal glasses, visors, so on? look at mass effect 2 visors for inspiration ;) 6) scarring. from the beginning it was looking like effect of some skin decease. why aren't there options for placing a single scar on lip/brow/chick etc? 7) adjusting height of character? also body fat

Can we have an option to pause the animation whilst sculpting please?
Also, if you only take 1 portait, will there be an option to go back and take more? or to change the ones you have taken (without resculpting of course)?
how do you cycle through your portraits and chose the currently active on? (i only took one so can't see an option to cycle through portraits in game, if such an option actually exists)
