I have to say that the Intaki female is not my favourite. What I did is I tried to mimic your current avatar, then again regarding my character I will do a total redesing. And unfortunately the current Intaki male is not what I consider an easy target to get a good visual. The previous version allowed this, which I really liked, but the current one is not as nice anymore (3rd version has smaller lips, bigger crooked nose and I'm not sure about the other parts...). |

I've been messing with most bloodlines and yesterday I would have said that the Brutor female was easily my favorite, but today I found that I actually like even more of the Caldari Deteis female.
Even in the original creator, the Deteis ladies were the finest :)
Outstanding work, btw... I'll need to see if I can get a reasonable video compression setting, to do real justice to the detail that's achievable here.
In regards to the UI, btw - just for the record, for those who are new to the creator; Portrait Mode and (Sculpting?) Mode work pretty much the same way when it comes to moving your character. So, if you're in the Portrait Mode, and it seems like your 'guy' is too low down on the screen hold-down your Right Mouse Button, and drag them wherever you want to...
I've YouTube'd another video now, btw. So anyone who's curious can check out this Brutor badboy....

Wow. Just wow. Really hoping they allow us to repick bloodline at least...if my choice is between a Brutor (or Deteis, or whatever for the individual) and the current model of the Siebestor...it isnt much of a choice.

Sure. Lights 1, 7 and 31 are intensely blue. You can also slide the intensity slider to the right to get more overall light, but it may wash it out a bit. The BEST WAY TO GET BLUE is to turn your character to their left. Then the blue light will hit more of their face.
Here they are:
Light 1:
Light 7 (classic Eve blue light)
Light 31

Dear CCP, could we get a reduced timer (like half an hour) for trashing characters on Singularity, so we can test the character editor in his full glory ?
Otherwise, I really enjoy the latest iteration, but i do hope there will be more choices for haircuts and clothing at start (or later in the game, doesn't really matters).

Sounds good to me, but I only have one empty slot, so for practicalities sake; when I finish making a new character, I just hit the 'back' button 'til I'm back at square one, or quit out... The only thing I'm missing out on, is what their final portrait looks like once 'in-game', but I've done it on one of my mains already, so...
I've just finished Fraps'ing the creation of this Deteis beauty, and I'll YouTube the process in a couple of hours. Made some noob errors though, and lost all my coolest screenshots somehow - I guess I could steal them from the (uncompressed) video stream at least.
btw, nice one on the Deteis shuttle story :) A picture speaks a thousand words, eh?

Tried High and Low shader. Low first.
Just to get off on the right foot. Its fun playing runway model.
The first run was low shader and a TQ running in the background. Meh SLOW. Fair results though. Made another run WO TQ running. Much better. Switched to the suggested settings. Big difference. While I loose some of the response time the shadows start to behave as expected and the hair isn't all butch.
Hair and glasses: I found that when looking through the lens of the glasses that hair behind the lens isn't rendered.

good : finaly after some practise it is posible to change colors of your properties (eyes, hairs)
neurtal: Make some options more visible, I completly mised beard creation (mayby I just overlooked it). if you have same type of clothes/glasses - then make it one item and just allow us to chose color (same as in eyes).
bad: make mouse scroling (or soemthing similiar) working on browsing ich chosing something. If you can chose from 3-4 it isnt PITA, but if you must chose from more it is v pain to browse from begining to end (just for overwiev of for selecting), it is mainly "fun" for selecting background for picture. ------------------------------------------------

What's in there is quality. Now it needs more quantity. Still hoping for some more race specific clothes, hats, hoods, etc. Need more hairstyles too. Anyway, if the options continue to increase then I think this will be a good product. Here was my attempt to create myself as closely as possible. I'm happy with it.

A follow up to my initial post, after taking a couple additional hours to make the best possible recreations for all 3 alts. Again, fastcharacters with high texture.
*The lighting intensity slider did nothing at all (ATI radeon 3000 gpu with latest driver). The different lighting choices merely moved the light source around; saw no variation in intensity or color.
*Characters looked quite different on the posing screen vs. creation screen...not just lighting differences. Very frustrating.
*All the hair textures look like either carpeting or feathers, not at all like hair. And they don't improve in portraits.
*The whole thing was extremely laggy and sluggish.
*"Aging" really isn't aging. One of my alts (caldari male) is fairly old and the closest I could get looked about half the age of the current portrait.
*Randomize All works too much like Poser--increasingly grotesque appearances.
*The characters and clothing don't look at all EVE-like to me, but that's subjective.
*We need sunglasses with more opaque lenses, especially since we can't sculpt the eyes to get the right appearance.
*We're still far away from being able to recreate current faces.
Finally, I've got a crazy suggestion for a background. Probably not possible, and totally off the wall, but...how about the inside of a spaceship? Bonkers, right?

Just wondering - will we be able to change certain features of the character's outlook after te 'remake'? Waht I mean is will the remodelling of things like hairstyle, clothing, glasses, facial hai etc. be locked after the character is remade into new engine or will we be able to change those? I obviously don't mean to allow for free and frequent changes to the shape of the face etc. but some external features should be open for modification. It would also be nice to know whether such options will be available before we remake the characters ;)

In the final ver once we created our character, can we go back and pick new poses, or edit the character further if we want to change something about our character after we saved it, etc?

Edited by: Hiram Alexander on 20/12/2010 02:06:44 UI Feedback.
I created a Caldari Civire guy that I was rather happy with, earlier. When I got to the final screen where you select a Name, Training Academy, etc. I clicked 'back' - to go back to the portrait screen. Once there, I noticed the angle had changed (I'd gone back to grab some screenshots) so I turned him back round, but was unable to 'select' anything - eyes for example - I tried the things that had 'fixed' that in the past, but to no avail.
I then thought to use the 'Light' menus, to see if that might reset things somehow, but instead, the menus slid through each other whenever I clicked on their titles (instead of 'stacking'), and the Intensity slider was inside the menu, not outside. I could use the slider, but it's image appeared to be overlaying itself (ie. I could slide the 'thingy' - but it left a copy of itself behind...)
I've Fraps'ed it; if you need it, or think it could help - but I'll not bother uploading it anywhere unless you do need it. Perhaps you'll be able to replicate it yourself. The only thing I'd done differently to any other time, was that I used the random name generator, and 'Corp' selectors in the last Screen.
Btw, while on the subject of UI... If I haven't already, +1 to whoever suggested that mouse-roll zoom should also zoom-to the legs if you have the body segment selected in the top-left corner. It'd be really handy.
Also... While it's important to bring in more variation in Colour for the lighting setups in Portrait-mode (really important...) - We're missing something 'critical' from the current Creator - Light colour affecting the background image.
Half of the battle, for me, in Portrait-mode isn't finding a background that I like - there's loads that i like, but finding one that 'suits' the lighting I have on my character.
That's one of the coolest things about the current system... You could have five people with the same neon-strips background, but all looking (quite) different from one another. Currently, we'll all look the 'same' in that respect.

Edited by: Avernus on 20/12/2010 02:52:43 One area of the sculpting that has been bothering me, the region around the temple traveling towards the eye, as well as just above and below the outer edges of the eye.
I'm getting an uncanny feel from it, if you view the face from an off angle you get a nearly flat profile on the side of the face. From my point of view the cheekbone and eyebrow should have greater protrusion in this area.
Cheers, you guys have been doing a great job with the character creator.
Edit: one particular clothing request - Glasses, good variety on lens shading (still need clear lens), need more styles of the frames now.

As if smeared in ashes or something? o_O Otherwise i dont see how non-black-skin bloodline can be... black. Neither as reason for non-black person to become black (\0/ to MJ).
Reminds me some old Soviets movies, where roles of black ppl was played by white ppl, with skin simply painted in black. Was looked really stupid and funny.

Hey all. Just want to throw a few suggestions out there regarding the character creator. I'll be sure to be as direct and to the point as possible.
Something to keep in mind that creating our characters over again is going to be a fairly big deal. Some of us have been playing for eight years, and I'm certain some of us have grown incredibly fond of our characters. Re-creating our character should not be a halfass effort, because we are re-creating ourselves. It should take longer than five minutes to throw your new character together. Because of this, I propose the following:
Allow us to somehow save our progress/work while modeling, either locally or on the server. That way if we crash, have to leave, or something unexpected comes up we can save our work and come back later. I was working on my character for six hours when I was interrupted by "exefile has crashed." Fun, right? Now imagine if something totally random were to happen when this goes live, either on TQ or whatever. Not going to be another six hours you're going to want to spend getting back to it.
I know this is a minor thing, but I really want my character to convince me that I am pleased. I don't want to feel rushed or otherwise impaired. Please give us this option!
