1. Trust me I was a ninja way before most.
2. Don't get mad, salvage is not worth your ship. Trust me they are after your ship, not the wrecks.
3. Never fire on them; they want you to. Remember, they want your ship. Even if you have 10 friends waiting to help, they have 20 ready to remote rep them that don't even have to be in the same corp. as them.
4. Take their time up; they are scanning new targets fast, so the longer they take with you the less killing they will do and it will annoy them more.
5. If you have time trick them. There are many ways to trick them, here is a list: Missions have grids just like everything else in Eve. If you get a mission with ships that warp scramble, go in the first room in a expensive mission ship and fly off the grid. They can scan you over and over again, and no matter what, will show up at the first gate. When they go in you will be gone and a whole fleet of warp scramming rats will be there to kill them. This takes time out of your day, but if you going to be afk all day you might as well do it.
When they fly to the wrecks, set it blue right before they get there. This takes no time and is somewhat annoying to them .
Get a level 1 mission with ship restrictions. (For example; only assault ships and frigs can get in.) Most ninjas will scan and bait in the same crappie scanning frig to try and get you to fire on them, however, when they return itĘs most likely going to be in a battlecrusier or cruiser size ship to insure they get the kill. They will be annoyed when they canĘt get back in to kill you, but keep in mind that this just buys you time and a good laugh. They will most likely get a ship that can fit in the mission. (Note; if they donĘt leave however, they may get a scram on you with their crappie frig, then get a alt in a orca to bring them a better ship. It will really suck for them when they canĘt get their orca in.)
Learn to use your d-scaner. If you set the range to 100mill at 360 range you will see any thing in your mission. This includes any buddies he may have waiting on earlier gates to remote rep him. (Note; they could have buddies cloaked on those same gates so they will not show up.)
Don't talk to them at all. This is also what they want. They like the tears you give. I myself have a whole note pad saved in Eve of people begging for there ships.
If all else fails ignore them. Remember they WANT TO KILL YOU. They don't want your crappie rat wrecks TRUST ME.
Understand your missions. There are different rules for missions than anywhere else in Eve.
Missions last for seven days. You can always return back the next day.
Alas this is all I can remember of the top of my head. I am sure there is more, but this will have to do for now. Feel free to rage or add to this list. Good luck, and remember, Eve is a game. Try and have fun .

If you fly far enough out to spawn a new grid, they're going to be scanning you out on that grid. This does not work.

I usually give them my salvage/abandon wrecks and say hi in local. As the OP said, salvage/loot is not worth frustration or feeling "violated" over. Let it go, and go grab the next mission. I've rarely if ever had someone do the same on a second mission anyway.

I try to leave some rats in the first pocket alive if that is possible and do the rest of the mission and if I cant pass the gate without killing all rats then I pop all wrecks/loot when one shows up.

I may be "doin' it wrong", but I am a ninja salvager.
I am NOT there for your ship. Why? Cause I don't have a ship that can take on battleships. I'm there for the salvage, and maybe a little bit to see if the mission runner cries. Salvaging provides income, parts for my corp, and something else to do when my luck is running low exploring or I don't feel like missioning. Heck, I LIKE it when people set wrecks blue. Thanks for the loot, mate! Couple days ago I had a guy offer to let me tag along on his next few missions to salvage; I made a pretty decent amount and had a good time just BSing with the guy.
Not everyone is a griefer. Some of us just want to clean up your mission.

Had the weirdest experience with a Ninja the other day. Was doing Blockade LVL4 and the guy warps in with a rifter .
I decide to pop the trigger which spawns some w/s frigs and dessies . Punch the warp out button and dock , take a shower and prepare to enjoy the tears in local as per ususal.
I come back , and I see in the journal that the mission has been completed by the ninja.

I've done this several times. The clever mission runner warps out, leaving me and my poor Taranis all alone surrounded by several 1 million+ ISK battleships. So I curse that mission runner who was way to smart for me and go back and get my Domi and then watch TV while my Ogre II's rake in a crap load of money on autopilot.

Given that the mission-runner is probably autopiloting another mission nearby at this point, and gets the reward for both, I'd say he still came out ahead.

I like the choice of words you used. Domi, autopilot and crap load of money in the same sentence Stick with this plan and you'll able to afford a titan. In 300 years.

Make sure you put your drones on passive as once they've got themselves set red by thieving there is a possibility agressive drones will attack them.

I have to agree with this poster. When I ninja'd it was to train up my scanning skills and to make some decent early income. The first few times it's quite a thrill to be flying around huge battleships in a ultra fast nano'd salvage frig. Most MRs never seemed to care that I was there.

I like sitting at the warp in for room 3 (i think) of the lvl 4 recon mission. Sit there in my domi and tank the Gas that damages your ship. Then I type up a messgae for local and make it look like it was a convo typed in the wrong window about how much loot I'm getting and that I think my mission is bugged. without fail there's always one or 2 that warp in and pop to the enviroment. Then I in turn salvage them. I made almost 50m once just on the t2 salvage from the cov op probers that came in. avn't been able to do this in a long time cause i live out in 0.0 now and don't get back to empire much anymore.

But seriously, destroying your own wrecks is just about the best you can do. You know they are just a scavenger if they just take salvage and leave loot. If they wanted to gank you, they'd aggro you by taking loot as well.

This is insulting, and you are an ass. Of course ninjas want you to talk to them -- everyone wants people to talk to in an MMO!
Some of my favorite early experiences in Eve were when encountering ninjas and can-flippers. Menod Penter comes to mind (I loved how he "liberated" the ore in miners' cans) and, much later, Paul Clavet formerly of Suddenly Ninjas.
Consider: it's possible (and preferable) to unexpectedly encounter other pilots in Eve and have amusing experiences with them.
Also consider: "How to deal with ninjas" posts like this don't do anything but encourage high-strung solo players to continue behaving in a passively hostile manner (warping out, pointedly ignoring that another player is even there, etc.) that is not only holier-than-thou but also far more antisocial (almost pathological) than what the ninja is doing in the first place (engaging another player in an attempt to elicit a reaction or exchange).
If anyone wants real tips on how to deal with ninjas, check out my in-game bio.

I had a guy come into a hvy level 3 i was doing w/ a BS just to make it quicker...the spawns were basically just regular frigs and a couple cruisers, but their added DPS if you don't watch the waves can take out a BC....
So this ninja jumped in, stole from one of the frigs then flies around me. I proceed to trigger the heaviest group. Then jump out.
Came back later, and he came back out for more frigates...i went and did other things. I just laughed b/c i had all day to do that mission (all week actually, since i was farming it), and knew every time i got him to warp in and check on me, it was just wasting his time, and kept others from getting ninja'd...
B/c scanning down a deadspace pocket is totes worth the loot from a couple regular rat frigs...

I haven't been scanned down in a while by ninjas. I'm not sure what their technique is, but I stopped* using drones and marauders. I'm not sure if those are ninja-magnets or not, but it's been a while since I've seen one. I also stay away from hubs.
I guess it's a matter of not being "low-hanging fruit."
KB
*Ok, I use drones, but only in cases where I have no other option...I'm in a BS and have multiple frigs buzzing/webbing around me. In those cases I launch them and then return to drone bay immediately after the threat is gone. Circumstances rule men; men do not rule circumstances. --Herodotus, Histories

I dual log a Noctis, or have a corpmate in a Noctis. Ninja salvagers just can't work fast enough to beat a properly flown and rigged Noctis.

I'd take that offer! You could even double it if the mission is right, or ask for half the salvage and loot contracted to you in the nearest station.
