Hello capsuleers, I bring good news.
CCP is pleased to announce the return of Live Dev Blogs, beginning this month. Live Dev Blogs are audio broadcasts from CCP heard in-game through EVE Voice, and will provide an opportunity for you to get to know us and our work a bit better. WeÆre also looking forward to answering the questions that the EVE player community has for CCP in Q&A segments. This will be a three-part series with a new Live Dev Blog once each month through March, and each with a different focus.
The first Live Dev Blog will take place on January 24, 2011 at 22:00 UTC, with a focus on Game Design in the Incursion expansion.
CCP Soundwave will host the Live Dev Blog on January 24 and will be joined by CCP Hammer (Lead Game Designer), CCP Flying Scotsman (Senior Game Designer), and CCP Omen (Game Designer). There will be a Q&A in this broadcast, and to that end weÆre inviting you to submit your Incursion expansion questions for CCP Hammer, CCP Flying Scotsman, and CCP Omen in this thread. Specifically, the devs will answer your general questions about game design in the Incursion expansion, and more specific questions about the new character creator and the improvements weÆve made to Planetary Interaction.
Please submit your questions on these topics for the devs in this thread. YouÆll have until 05:00 UTC on Friday to get your questions in before I apply *the lock*, so fire away! CCP will select a number of these questions to be fielded by Hammer, Flying Scotsman, and Omen next week.
Players interested in listening in on January 24 should join the ôLive Dev Blogö channel in-game, right-click on the channel tab, and select ôJoin Audioö. Details about how to listen in to the Live Dev Blog on Incursion game design will also be announced prior to the broadcast.
We hope youÆre pleased that Live Dev Blogs are returning to EVE Online and weÆre looking forward to your questions for the CCP devs.

When do you expect to have additional accessories on the character creator, such as additional glasses (aviators are cool and all, but...), tattoos, piercings and similar items?

Im talking about this since its already demonstrated. Specially with Amarr, that what you see in the editor is not what you get in the game. For example hood on or off.
Or is this already fixed, or in future handled by petitions? --------------------------------------

Edited by: Sentient Blade on 19/01/2011 22:33:06 Edited by: Sentient Blade on 19/01/2011 22:30:33 My question is... will the Sanshas invasion universal arc have an end game?
If Sanshas are going to turn up and force me to fight and get my ships annihilated by overwhelming NPC firepower and super-carriers turning up in Highsec then there is something I want in return...
I want the ability to annihilate Sanshas from the game completely, a proper end-game, rather than them just continuing to spawn with no way to actually win the greater war.
If I have to stop saving damsels to go and fight the Sanshas, then I think it's only fair we get to stage a genocide against their entire NPC race. That's an objective we can actually work towards and feel good about once it's done!
Saving damsels is how my char gets laid. "Check out the size of my howitzer" isn't working anymore as a pickup line.
Also, one more question: Why no grouping of EW / TP modules etc =(

Edited by: Evelgrivion on 19/01/2011 22:33:52 It's been said that the main feature of this expansion, the Incursions themselves, were introduced as a heavily PVE oriented feature because the metrics show that PVE features sell better. Could you elaborate on what this means, and what the aforementioned metrics show?
How has Incursion fared in terms of meeting expectations?

I agree with the pod cast idea. and it needs to be clearer in the character creator that the portrain selected is the one you're stuck with, i thought it ment i could change them on a certain basis ever X amount of hours or days. i ended up being stuck with the rubbish one!

Seconded.
Question: Are there any plans to allow players to side with the Sanshas in future? Not only would that be an RPer's wet dream it would encourage PvP as well which according to the minutes is in decline.

I was going to ask "has CCP developed and worked out (or is this in proper progress) a consistant and hands on vision for EVE in light of its now existing two major components of 'spaceships' and 'avatars' and the need for balance between these in design, development and iterative efforts for both sales and retention without risking to sacrifice its principle strengths (EVE ain't cool, it's what you do in EVE with the freedom and tools you have that makes **** cool or cruel)" but I see it is just about Incursions, the Character Creator and Planetary Interaction so I guess I'll just ask the following:
0. Can we also has Zulu for the Live Dev Blogs? Would be awesome.
1. Are the people responsible at CCP for creative direction and vision going to continue working together with the CSM (getting down & dirty with it) considering how majorly beneficial the lessons from October 2010 have been already in both communities and media as CCP sat down with them and got to work on the challenges which (aside of PI and the Incarna topics) has already started to deliver results?
2. Is it possible to (communications, hurray) get some more insight in to what CCP in the mean time has figured out through research and collaboration with the CSM on what will be plausible and acceptable Vanity Items to strengthen the potential of the Character Creator on the road towards Incarna?
3. Apparently it was considered 'NDA' at the time and we did not get to see it mentioned in the CSM December Summit Meeting Minutes, but there has been discussion in various online communities .. but for future reference so we can later see how PI benefitted or required further iteration, how many unique characters did effectively use Planetary Interaction on a monthly basis at the time of the December Summit?
4. Has CCP been engaging in thought or research in to the rising trend in awareness and even acceptance among players in regards to the use of illegal macros, bot software or dual/multiboxing software aids that go beyond those sanctioned by Customer Support recently and the various elements of EVE's game design challenge along the lines of "EVE is a second job" versus "people grow up and get less time but still want to milk EVE to the max"?
It is one thing to fight both bots and RMT, and there are enough customers who support CCP in those fights every day and many more would like to help in it, but there also is a concept and design challenge. Perhaps even a challenge of awareness. We've seen as players the impact of bots alone (no RMT) on EVE's economy (which is now considered badly managed, by CCP) over time, and with RMT adapting over time to switch towards an Item sales format rivalling that of micro transactions - from simple T1 ship & gear subscriptions in many places and 500 $ Motherships by the dozen in many more places - it is probably an idea to think outside the (sand)box and attack the problem from more than the currently existing angles.
5. Maybe some clarification to the recent PC Gamer article which some players picked up a quote in up from CCP's lead game designer (along the lines of "we just want to do new stuff, but hey customers want us to polish up something silly like rockets so if they shout yeah well we have to do boring **** too - not a direct quote, but it signals the gist of it as it was often understood or misunderstood), which led to quite some confusion would be a nice idea.
Than being said, looking forward to the return of this tradition, it's been much missed!

"Site rewards are paid as follows:
+ To actual combat ships: no pods, shuttles or cloaked vessels
+ To players who are inside the site when it is completed"
What about stealth bombers or recon ships for whom cloaked is their natural state? What about the brave pilots who repel an incursion at the cost of their own ship, and are left in a pod, or who warp off to reship but don't make it back before completion? I understand the idea, but I would like some more clarity.

Most important question:
Why doesn't CCP perma-ban members of IT alliance that knowingly used a well-defined and publicized exploit involving downtime?
I saw the GM mail the one guy guy, you just warned them after they knowingly used an exploit.

Questions:
1) Why did you decide not to properly leverage the Evelopedia to provide proper documentation for the Character Creator but instead relied on the intuitiveness of the creator alone?
2) Noticed that a lot of character personalizations (Tattoos and Face markings to name a few) were left out of the initial Character Creator. Can we assume that these will be added in latter as options for micro transactions in Incarna?
3) Would you be willing to ease the speed nerf for blaster boats in the feature? A lot of people are complaining that blaster boats are not what they used to be, like in the pre-speed nerf days.

If you promise to answer them, sure.
Since Epic Arcs apparently went the way of Cosmos, what is your plan to follow up on Incursions considering that the remains of old and abandoned content from previous incarnations of "the next PvE feature" are cluttering the game?
What did you do to prevent Incursions from going stale after people have played through them a couple dozen times, and how do you intend to make sure they're worth running instead of forcing people to run them so they can play eve? If I'm extremely bored with the content and it won't be touched and iterated on, will there be a good opt out or will I have to run them in order to free my space from them? In that regard, wouldn't it be much better if players could blockade other players, instead of npc?

Going by past stuff and the recent CSM Minutes.
1. EVE has a history of being undocumented. Infamous picture there. Has both aided and cost over time. They want to work on documentation, but it will be a slow and tedious process of hard work, but the wiki and such is a place where players an also add in documentation.
2. Never presume or assume, especially in EVE. Chnces are they ran out of time to come up with the design for supporting those. They will add that later, but when we will have to see, and some stuff will undoubtedly make it in then but stuff that fits a concept of vanity items will be routed to microtransactions.
3. in the minutes it ws said that blasters were fine. period. Doubt they will revisit them any time soon.

Was it the intention of the designers to make PI a little harder on those who wanted to maximize their profits with it? If so, why was it desided it needed to be harder, and do you think the changes work as intended?

Static Moon Goo.
Don't you think it is time for this to finally go? There have been countless proposals to revamp this.
Shameless plug; I have the idea of goo having a certain amount then it, over the course of a week or so, slowly change into another type of mineral. The depleted mineral then goes into a que to eventually be randomly placed on another moon somewhere else in the galaxy. This of course would require an entire overhaul in POS work. My idea was a POS that you could grow and shrink to fit your needs. Modules that could be attached to it to increase the CPU and power grid just like ships. So if your mining some Cobalt with some tiny POS, and you start seeing signs of say... Technetium, you could beef the POS up to a super death star to protect it. One much, much larger and menacing than our standard large tower death stars. After all, when people find out about it, they will bring a lot of capitals. So it is only right, with the growth of gang sizes you have something you can realistically with manned guns stand a chance.
So my question is, for the love of all that is holy and unholy, what can you tell us about any progress on static moon income and POS revamp?

Well, it increases the number of people who are needed to meet the existing demand for PI materials... so in regards to whether it was intentional or not, definitely maybe.

Definitely seconding. Both.
Also, why has was risk vs. reward inverted regarding distance from empire for 0.0 pilots, and why has there been no follow up to correct that? Currently, the nearer the region is to empire, the more lucrative it is, since space has been homogenised but distance is still an issue?
As an example, Tribute is now one of the best regions in Eve period, because it's next to empire and jita, while period basis and branch are basically worthless and a hassle.
Why was there no attempt to rectivy these issues with this expansion, and when can we expect this to change?

The new sansha ship AI as well as the incursions are a way of forcing fleet PvE in highsec (when incursions hit high sec that is). Do you think you will be considering adding more fleet based PvE in the future or do you think the new sansha sites satisfy that requirement and you will then go on to focusing on adding maybe PvP or solo PvE content and leaving fleet PvE content alone for a while?
Also can we expect to see improvements in the AI in missions (levels 1-4) in the not too distant future - I like the idea of more challenging NPCs but I don't have a big enough group of friends to go and tackle sleeper sites and sansha sites yet so seeing more challenging AI which is still soloable (with enough skill) would present a welcome boost to difficulty without making things too hard to solo.

Ask some important questions man, if you want to run for the CSM better get in the habit of that as erly as possible. Things that are of interest for player niches, EVE general interest, feature or content challenges, those things. Not something more useful for a Facebook article or a sidenote in a devblog comment thread. They're doing a live devblog! That's been ages, got to use that well |

My Questions:
Will you eventually add more stuff to the concord store? not that im not grateful or anything, but i was expecting more 'exclusive' stuff to concord than just implants and capital bpcs, like ships or something.
Also, will you be adding more epic arcs to each of the four races? I very much like pewing npcs in what to me look like carefully designed storyline missions (and the isk payout is just plain AWESOME!!!)
although...i would very much like to give the guy in charge of creating the caldari arc a wedgie, its far too evil

What wass the thinking behind not being able to drop things in other peoples cans/GSC's anymore? This has made things like Bookmark cans and communal PvP cans useless for people in wormholes/anyone who lives out of a pos with more than one corp in it. Along the same lines is tractoring someone elses can/wreck in 0.0 space. You don't lose sec status for killing people so why should we not be allowed to do this in null/wh's? Makes things a pain in arse when running sleepers for one, if someone in your fleet leaves before you finish salvaging, and yo are no long able to tractor his wrecks.
Plans for introducing more pirate caps? or are the sanshas going to take over my making everything they drop uber and have us use it then just make it all stop working/go away?
Thanks for listening though ^^ Politicians use statistics like drunk people use street lights

What expanding? They do an incursion, go afk or get farmed, then they go away. There is no expansion of territory or influence or presence or anything like that?

It's been mentioned you didn't count on Nation getting so many 'loyalists' in the playerbase when you first started their invasion story. What did you do to compensate for this, and what, if anything, do you plan to do in the future regarding players who want to side with Nation?

Here's a question:
Where does one find the nuts to poo away four years of development, come up with only a character generator, push that back some more as well, then release it and have the gall to claim it's (and quote) "still in the early design phase".
I mean really now, you're joking right?

Also, where is your incarna content? From what I'm hearing from the CSM, there is currently none apart from a little bar game (which was copied off the existing game called slay).
Not a whole lot of time left before we expect an incarna release that actually has real gameplay, and to be frank my expectations of CCP being able to deliver on this are frightfully low.
And please don't say "iterate" because it doesn't seem like you ever really go and do that :/

1. Why did you tint the ORE mining vessels? Did you want them to be more distinguishable or is it a bug as the T1 ships are aren't just golden, they're really yellow.
2. I've read that there will be the possibility to change character appearance in the future once you introduce stuff like tattoos and piercings. How will those customizations work? Do we have to pay for them (ISK or real money) or are they free? How about the different options? Are they free to pick (like current clothes) or will we have to pay for items (again, ISK or real money)?
3. To me the new character portraits look rather inconsistent as the portrait editor allows lots of different perspectives and zoom settings. Is this really intended or would you prefer to limit those a little bit more to get a more consistent appearance?
4. Is there any way to get a "reset" button in the character creator? I'm rather sure I didn't miss it and I haven't found any way to reset the character's body or face expressions once changed (other than repicking race etc. but that's impossible for existing characters).

1) Given the need to team up in order to deal with incursion would you consider remote repairing a requirement? If so could we please have an option to NOT auto repeat on people/pilots/ships who have committed an illegal act? As it stands any ad-hoc RR fleets joined by a griefer will be concordokened. At the very least this needs to trigger a warning message.
2) PI is much better now, yet there are several resources that are...of limited value. Should we expect more blueprints, using those resources not used for POS fuels, implants for instance. Or do you see this as a problem of stockpiling, and expect the demand for POS parts (as opposed to fuels) to start growing in the coming months?

Do you guys realize that the short range, long-range-gun T2 turret ammo (specifically, Gleam, Quake, and Javelin) are still literally completely useless? You've removed the ridiculous penalties (shield HP, sig radius) but they still have worse range (-75% range!!!!) and tracking (-25%) than the T1 and Faction close range ammos for the same (meaninglessly more than faction) damage. What were you guys thinking and is there anything planned for these ammo types? Any hope of any role for the close range T2 ammo other than "MORE DPS" (as with conflag, hail, void)
Can you tell us anything about the AF boosts coming down the pipe (hopefully?) ________________

Other MMO's release content at a much faster rate, you say it's to produce excellent content but it still turns out buggy.
This Incursions has a half finished character creator, a few UI tweaks and some spawning NPC's that will probably just get annoying after a while.
How does this take so long with 150 odd people working on it?
I think you need to majorly reduce the QA time, it obviously isn't working anyway because we still have loads of bugs.

Will the Science & Industry menu ever get a redesign? Nowadays, you can filter your hangars and containers, but not your blueprint list where you can see the actual blueprint infos. Why does it take so much time while it should only be client side changes. The client already has all the infos, it just doesn't present it in a customizable way.

What is CCPs Drug Use policy?
It seems to many of us that the quality of your latest releases is at least in part a result of either incompetence or laziness of your employees, and the fiasco of the PI release should have prompted some drastic changes. Nothing has happened and whispers are being heard, despite the NDA gestapo measures you imposed on the CSM that imply the amount and content and quality of the highly anticipated following up Incarna expansion will leave us, the players and more importantly customers, in shock, since you will give us almost nothing to show for 3+ years of alleged development of the WiS feature.
Everyone knows CCP Nohz is a coke (as in coccaine) addict. Since he is responsible for some game design decisions, and since the quality of your latest expansions since Apocrypha has been low per player opinion, and also since the quantity of bugs in game is not being reduced, don't you think it would be appropriate to establish a no Drug Use Allowed policy?
The point is, when I or a coworker cause an accident at work, my employers will do a drug test to make sure I wasn't high on the job, to help and discount gross negligence as cause of the issue, and from there to take steps in order to prevent it from happening again. At CCP, we have an incompetent Dev who is high on illegal narcotics all the time and causing accident after stupendous accident regarding the quality of EVE Online content. I think if you were to get rid of this Blight and impose a drug free workplace policy at CCP the quality of your work, and subsequently the number of subscriptions and finally the amount of MONEY you bring in will undoubtedly go up, and this is something we all wish for.
PS: Don't shoot the messenger, Don't need to ban me or hack my post because it embarrasses your company, if you had taken steps before hand to prevent this, us players wouldn't be talking about it. Silence implies consent, so do something.

You've either just shown some truly remarkable display of eh, logic, or you mean to say "incease QA time / capability / capacity", along those lines?
Don't get me wrong, there is a big divide that has grown between what is presented, what is visible in media, and what is delivered. Particularly the last few years, but it does stand out more simply because also for those years they never iterated on anything. At all.
Now we are starting to see them pick up on that, yes within limits and yes it's a big difference between what we read from say a Zulu in blogs getting down to do the right things right and a Hammer who states in an interview that just new stuff is fun but hey customers want rockets.
Glass half full, glass half empty. Different for everyone, hard to cater to, but still has to be catered to, without spilling.

Just as importantly, what are you doing about all the RMTers and specially all the people who use automation programs (Bots) to make isk [and many of them don't do it to RMT]. Im fvcking sick of seeing these borg machines every minute of every day slaving away at the ice belts and asteroid belts. Do something about this already.
I don't want you to only address RMTers, I want you to show results and consistently enforce the rules regarding the use of BOTs, regardless if its being done for personal monetary gain in Real Life or not.
If it is not too much to ask, at least for people living in developed nations (this does not include lol italy and lol russia), laws regarding payment of incomes taxes are very serious. In The USA, hiding income from the IRS is illegal and will net you in jail. You can not only ban the accounts of RMTs, but you can also do your legal and moral duty as a lawful corporation and report these illegal income activities to the Internal Revenue System of the users' country of residence.
Trully you will not be able to do this in countries where the rule of law is a joke, but at least you can always just simply ban all those accounts.
Also, if you eliminated the use of Game Time Codes, you would reduce a convenient and untraceable means of laundering Money and ISK. Make Plex only available from you. Cut off the middle man. Oh wait, unless this was an intended loophole to be used by your employees to make off-the-books money.
Did I manage to get your attention yet?

Regarding botting:
My alliance has recently had a discussion regarding its stance on botting. It was decided that the alliance had to give up its anti-botting stance in order to remain competitive. Most other nullsec alliances have a lenient or no policy regarding botting. Our alliance decided to allow botting because being anti-botting in todays eve means that you will lose out on corporate, alliance and personal income.
It seems like its pretty risk free to run bots as long as you are not RMTing. You can easily find bots many places in eve just by doing a roam through 0.0 space.
I find it very sad that my alliance have had to change its stance in order to remain competitive. People are saying that CCP does simply not care about botting as long as people do not RMT. I am angered and frustrated that I as a player who like to gain my isk in a legitimate way can look as people in my alliance brag about making ISK botting with no effort while I sit around and rat, run posses and trade to get the same ISK.
You recently released the devblog regarding botting and made it seem like you were cracking down. But I dont see any threads about people having been banned or anything like that. It doesn't seem like you are doing anything to regular players who bot even though this ruins the game much in the same way that the botters who RMT do. The only difference is that these do not steal income from CCP.
When alliances have to become pro-botting in order to stay competitive, I think the problem has reached an enormous magnitude
What are some concrete examples of what CCP is doing to prevent botting, especially in 0.0?
Is it true that you are more concerned about botting when it relates to RMT?

Apocrytha made me come back to EVE after a long brake, there we had A LOT of fine and interesting to explore content both PvE and PvP wise. Everyone was applauding CCP. Since Apocrytha, Dust 514 and World of Darkness was announced and futher expansions were received with much less appreciation both quality and content-wise. Carbon technology was introduced that consumed huge amount of resources to Carbonize old code. The new Character editor was introduced: you don't have to be a physic to foresee that it came out bugged and underdeveloped simply because it was much needed by players. Opps, my mistake, not by players of EVE Online, but by future players of World of Darkness and Dust 514. Obviously since you cannot move development forward until you have a character to play around with.
1. Please comment the following assumption: The quality and depth of content in Incursion, Tyrannis, Dominion is suffering because a company that was very good in development of awesome online game has decided to try other fields of capitalization.
2. Incursion is a definite breakthrough in group PvE in EVE Online: Have the tools for group assembly and queuing for assembly been created? Obviously Incursions are dynamic dungeons, therefore dungeon raiders will be needed. How a single NPC corp player, can participate in the Incursion? How roles can be displayed, defined and confirmed (tank, logistic, dps).
3.Good point earlier in the post about the medals. Why achievements mechanics is still not introduced in game? Player XYZ has completed XYZ incursions. Player ZYX has visited all solar systems in universe. Please comment.
4. As the long term goal of CCP has to be an increase of player base by both: retention of old players and new account: I can see Incarna being all-in bet for new accounts and fixes/backlog being treat for current EVE fans. Can you please tell could there be a ratio set between effort for new features and revamping old issues? Could this ratio possibly be 50/50?
5. A follow up to question one: Could you please prove me wrong and reveal the ratio of man-hours, persons and "development resorces" allocated between: a) carbon b) world of darkness c) dust 514 d) EVE Online
Thank you very much in advance |

1. Why was the history bar removed from the character creator? It was there on Singularity, and allowed for mistakes to be quickly corrected. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't still be there.
2. Biggest problem I've noticed with the character generator isn't addressed in the devblog talking about how they're changing it. The preview pictures are different size and resolution from the in-game portrait, meaning that pictures that looked fine in the creator didn't look quite so good in game. I didn't personally have this problem, but several of my Corpmates were less than satisfied with their pictures, as was my wife.

Edited by: Elzon1 on 20/01/2011 03:01:01 It seems with incursion that pve content was created in which "sleeper like" AI was used to force people in groups to take it on. If such sites are truly profitable I see people swarming them like locusts and completing them fairly quickly.
The question: Is there a preset time to how long each incursion event will last or does a new one spawn somewhere else upon completion? If not immediately respawning, how long would we have to wait?
Question 2: Will there be signs of how far back we have beaten our new overlords in order to see our "progress"?
Question 3: Could one or both of you give your speculations on what the revenant bpc will be worth as well as other bpcs to be dropped during incursions?
Question 4: I have heard of new sansha loot to be gained from incursions, is this true and if it is could you name them while telling us how they compare with other modules?
Question 5: Was there any sneaky anti-botting stuff snuck in with incursion to be activated now or on a later date? If there is, but you can't give details... could you please say that is "NDA"?
Question 6: Is incursion a possible test of anti-botting procedures? If yes, in what ways do you see such features being used in the future if successful?
Question 7: Could the Jovians finally make their way to the forefront through this incursion storyline... speculations?
Question 8: It seems the Sansha have figured out a way to influence our ships resistances throughout a system, will we the players eventually be capable of causing such havoc ourselves?
Question 9: The Sansha also have figured a way to establish semi-permanent wormholes, could we players eventually be able to do the same in order to invade other hostile systems?
Question 10: Are there any particular ship configurations or fleet compositions you would expect players to use when doing incursions?
Question 11: I heard that mining could be involved with incursions, what would this entail exactly?
Question 12: There have been quite a few people wanting to pirate and/or suicide gank during incursions, what would be a few strategies to do something like that during incursions?
Question 13: Will the storyline advance with our progress whilst doing incursions or is it a forced time schedule?
Question 14: Will there be any silly little things like "this sign is sharp" or "this is a sign" in the incursion sites?
Question 15: It has been said the revenant bpc will only drop in low sec, do you have any speculations of whether or not major alliances will attempt to claim such sites as their own as well as the bpc's?
Question 16: Will we the characters actually be in the storyline or will we simply be blowing up sansha left and right?
Last question:
Question 17: Has there been any talk of if there will be another "unholy rage" internally at CCP? If so when do you expect it to take place (time frame)?

FanFest is 9 weeks from now. From the December Minutes: "Hilmar stated that he hoped that the messaging for Incarna and its initial release, as well as the longer-term roadmap, would become much clearer by FanFest. The CSM cautioned, however, that this might be too late."
Are you going to make Hilmar's hopes come true? Related to that, will there be roundtables or presentations devoted to Incarna where you show some visuals to demonstrate progress and whet appetites for the planned Incarna 1.0 Summer Release that by then will be just a few short weeks away?

A couple of questions.
Firstly what is the roadmap for PI. My understanding is that the recent update was really a step back to improve the basic experience. So what else can we expect to be added to this feature? Will we finally be able to be evil tyrants or benevolent dictators? When will planetary PVP become possible and what form will it take? I understand that DUST is the PVP link for null sec. But what about low and high? I want to be able to kick all these other capsuleers off my planet.
Secondly. Nukes. You know you want this.
Thirdly. Chest hair. Why do men in the future no longer have chest hair? My character demands long luxuriant chest hair that his food can get caught in.

Q1) There has been no increase in available known space (excluding the introduction of Black Rise) over many years. Do you think that, given the population growth; is it time to increase the amount of space we have. Remember space is supposed to be vast. (Also this could be a good way to balance play styles).
Q2) Rat Bounties: I would like to see 0.5 sec space become a little more dangerous to miners. Could effort be made to create random spawns of more scary rats in 0.5 sec space; or is current thinking that the difficulty in high sec mining about right?!?
(What I was imagining was that you would have a 1 in 10 chance to get a spawn of a ~60k rat - with teeth. This rat would require a teams of hulk powered drones working together to kill. This rat needs to be able to kill Hulks. This a partly a nerf to marco's and to help end the tedium of high sec mining.)

So much hate in this thread. Why is it always like this after every patch that has ever been applied to any interwebs enabled game ever? (That's rhetorical, don't answer.)
1) What steps are CCP taking to help combat the current botting issues? Will we be seeing some nice uber large negative wallets soon? (Please, Say yes)
2) Do you have any plans for reworking moon goo, and if so, how do you plan to offset existing costs? (Sov bills, pos fuels, ship losses, etc.)
3) Are there any plans to release player-freindly road maps for development? Would such road maps be open to community feed back? (Maps that actually track release/milestone dates, etc. Not just "Incursion here, Incarnia after that")
4) Mandatory "Moar ships!" question: With the recent "design your own ship" contest, are there plans to level that out by also creating matching race sets? Looking at most of the ships they have a very specific race they are targeted towards, it would seem illogical to release just an Amarrian ship, for example.
5) Can we expect any new Epic Arcs?
6) Can we expect any shake downs in PvP? (Black ops being good, certain bonuses being changed to more useful ones, etc.)
7) With the strong demand for logistical roles from incursion, are there any plans to expand on this? Logistics Battleships/Frigates?
8) Current technical issues aside, are there plans now or in the future to allow ships to dock to other ships? If not, why not?
9) With lag creating a situation where pilots can't war with each other, what steps are being taken to insure that more vertical performance can be ravaged from existing horizontal solutions?(Your words) Are there plans to enable a node to become multi-threaded should the system spike? If not, why not? What steps are being taken to automate the fleet fight tool? Etc.
10) With the Space Arms Race heading more and more towards capital ships, can we expect to see more variety from the capital fleet line up, or will CCP try and guide people more towards sub-capital class ships for the foreseeable future?
11) Can we expect to start seeing content from Incarnia popping up on dev blogs soon? If yes, how soon is soon? If not, why not?
12) With the character creator, assuming we will be able to purchase vanity items when we can walk in stations etc, will the image used in login/chats be static or will we be able to update it after buying fat lewt? (I just bought a quaffee hat for example, will I be able to go to the photo booth to make new poses to show it off in chats?)
13) And lucky last; How much goo could a moon goo mine if a moon goo could mine goo?
Side note: You guys probably don't hear it enough off these forums, but you guys are doing a pretty bang up job. The character creator was intuitive, easy to use and from what I've seen thus far, creates far more unique outcomes than the previous creator. If only every MMO developer was willing to keep their game graphically relative to the times instead of quietly hoping it would die out so they could try and sell those customers an entire "new" (term used loosely) game + paid expansions. :/

For starters, what the HELL was that in Ashab earlier today? Around 400 people (less than a third of Jita's usual local count)in system, and it was completely unplayable for most of us that came out for the fight...I've seen fights in 0.0 with far more numbers that had less lag. Come on, guys...I know you can do better.
Second point has already been made, regarding Minmatar character's facial tattoos. That's part of what made me go with a Minmatar character in the first place...I stuck with em b/c of the capless guns
Third, is there anything in the pipe as far as new or revamped ships? There are several classes that could either use an overhaul or completely be scrapped, imho, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see more Tech 3 ships added to the game.

1. A question in regard to character portraits? Are there any plans to move on from system with static 2d pictures to actual live 3D models as character portraits, if not maybe at least PI style holograms? I can't imagine ultimate sci-fi without live video feed if not holograms.
2. Is any additional overhaul of existing single player PvE scheduled? Agent missions? Can we expect animated agents?
3. It would be great to finally get some voice in PvE. You can start with fading cries of True Slaves fading out into static when their ships go into flames. But I'd recommend to voice mission agents. Maybe you can outsource a studio and do this for tutorial missions. I am sure you will see many more happier new accounts. Please comment.
Thank you.

General How many subscribers would you have to lose to seriously change course?
Relatedly, how was monthly subscription revenue in December compared to the previous December? Subscribers?
Hilmar says he loves throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. Creativity and brainstorming are wonderful things, but you're running a 300 person, $50M/yr business in an intensely competitive industry. Are there any consequences for failures like PI, for missed development deadlines or serious bugs? Any at all?
Character Creation Why can't we keep our old portraits if we want to? Why must we choose between a gray empty portrait and this (admittedly attractive but) complicated and not at all science fiction-y character generator system?
Why is all the clothing so bland? Why can't we pick the colors of the clothing from a full RGB palette according to our preferences, as people have done in online games since Ultima Online almost 20 years ago?
Incursions How many of the items from the CSM list could we have had instead of this, given the amount of resources that went into it?

Why doesn't CCP add more fun stuff to the game? (Fun as in, the snowball launchers for example) It really gives the game that extra bit that might appeal to people.
Maybe letting black ops ships jump around highsec to :), I don't think it would be a bad idea for 500 mil worth of shipery.
Is it intended that The kronos with the tracking bonus skill gets outdone on every single thing (tracking / dps / tank / range / flexibility) in comparation to the palladin (in pve)?

I looked around and didn't see it asked yet, so...
What does the future of local in nullsec look like?
Also: How bad would you rate the Golden Retriever pun, on a scale of 1 to 10?
How soon can we expect a solution to the ever-increasing need for a blob in sov warfare?
Are there any plans to make moon minerals dynamic?
How many more nodes are going to be upgraded to the level that Jita is currently at?
When are you going to glue the Catalyst model back together?
How soon can we expect a decent rework of the EVE Jukebox?
What's your favorite color?
What is the average velocity of an unladen swallow?

You see this is a thread for questions about game development of this expansion, with all the major game developers sitting in, and we really are, truthfully and honestly very interested if Noah's coke addiction has helped in that regard. It has nothing to do with him personally, we are just interested what the effects on game development are. Because if it is discovered that great results can be achieved in game development through coke abuse then perhaps CCP should force all game developers to start using.
So since it has nothing to do with him personally it clearly is not a personal attack. The interest is purely from a game-development perspective, to see what could be done to improve it.

We already have the "report ISK spammer" I'd like to know if "Report Possible Macro'er" is an option, I only mention this because in the last week Ive actually seen over 17 miners (ice and ore) probably bot mining, enless they just didnt want to complain about me Hyperion-Bumping them 20-35K off the belts.
These damned macro/bot miners annoy the hell out of me, not mentioning they essentially cheat day in day out with no real way of letting CCP know.

1) In the future are you going to release expansions like you did with Incursions , multi-staged ? At this point they felt like big patches , not a massive awesome expansion .
2) Will the PI system get more love in the future , like working with NPC crews and population on planets , miners, haulers , manufacturers ?

Edited by: Aynen on 20/01/2011 08:36:38 Incursions is the first patch that was deployed in pieces. Do you consider it a good idea to continue this development in future content patches, and might this even turn into a continuous adding of smaller content patches spread out over the whole year instead of 2 big ones, or do you have arguments against such a strategy?
edit: haha I just read the post before me, posted almost simultaniously, the same question...

1. A LARGE portion of EVE population lives in WH-space, and since Apocrypha NOTHING has changed for us. Are there any plans on making changes there? Perhaps new types of sites? Ultra fast spawns, like sites that spawn and dissapear within a few hours, to keep you on your toes.
2. Drone buffing. There are many dmg, speed, and other modules for both hybrids and missile pilots. Both T1s and T2s. Any plans on making a few T2 versions for us drone pilots?
3. Why no moon-mining in WH-space?
4. New PI. Love it, and hate it. It solves the problems of flexible cycle times, and most of the click-fest. However, its now REALLY hard to extract more than 2 products from a single planet. Before, I could run 3 and sometimes even 4 different extractions from a single planet. The new system seems to drive us into mass-production instead of setting up clever systems that makes the higher tier products.
5. Penalties (materials) on T2 ship manufacture in the POS arrays. Why is it there? Will it ever go away?

I've been one of many to discover how well PI and wormholes go together, which makes me wonder: Might we see a ship in the future that has bonuses that help players to make use of this 'marriage' between wormholes and PI? For instance a ship with a large enough cargo bay to haul PI goods around but which is also strong enough to do the easier Sleeper sites in a C1 or perhaps even C2?

What is the chance of changing to the avatar at the top of left on the neocom when you are in game to be animated, like it was during character creation? Or at least an option to allow for that, so that those who don't want to waste the RAM on something aesthetic like that don't have to.
When you mess with a portrait, your character moves around and is somewhat lively. I can't tell you how deeply this brought me back into the game. Now obviously other characters in game will be just the portraits, but allowing us to click up there or go to our profile and click on our toon, zoom in and out, etc, would be outstanding. We have these full bodies and amazingly lively looking characters, and they are wasting away as an upper body portrait...

Although i know this is perhaps a question that you don't want to answer CCP, but do you think that launching a new feature like Sansha Invasions before overhauling some rather overdue features like POS and corp roles was a good call?

I dont know if this has already been asked but its something I wonder. With the incursions now a vital part of eve play when they go live, they will be effectively crippling systems till we get off our asses and do something about them.
Thing is, when we repel the sansha at the end of the expansion and we move onto Incarna of whatever is planned next. What will happen to all the incursion engines? We will have the CONCORD LP store, the new capital mods and most likely more. But We cant have more sansha invasions as we will have complted that storyline. Will each sector of space still have its own less frequenrt invasions? Like simple blood raider attacks on colonys or Serpentis taking over areas for drug research? I just worry that it has been a HUGE level of effort gone into this system that may end up just phasing out in the near future.
In short, What will happen to incursions after the sansha incursion expansion ends?

I have 4 questions:
1. Is CCP aware of the Shield Bonus Bug? Changing systems(sessions) will kill all shield bonuses. When will this be corrected. 2. What is the plan to fix mining, for me it is just a time waster, or is it concidered stable at present. 3. When will the Hel's bonus be corrected as promised just after Dominion? 4. Is there any chance that the Jump bridge permissons can be looked at to get rid of having to constantly put in the Starbase password at every blue tower. Maybe make it's settings similar to the shield, [] corp, [] alliance, [] standings.

2)Will moon mining arrays be placed outside of POS shields, made incapacitateable, and hackable to steal goo and generate pos mails when it is hacked?
3)The official in game name of a 'PLEX' Is Pilot's License Extension (30 Days). Will using them for Microtransactions shave off hours/days? (EG: Nice Hat: 1 Day. NO >YES. How do you think the changes to PI will influence the market?
When a new feature is released, how do you determine in the first few months wether it is 'working as intended' or has slightly different effects than anticipated (I'm thus not refering to an outright bug)? What is usually the process for dealing with a feature that isn't working as intended?
How would you describe the features of Incursion when further developed 5 years from now?

Edited by: Bomberlocks on 20/01/2011 10:45:58 I have a number of questions, some related to others and in no particular order, so pick those that are least embarrassing to you.
1. Why does CCP spend a lot of time developing new features that are seldom, if ever, iterated upon, despite promises to that effect? Examples of this are Factional Warfare, Wormholes, Moon Minerals and T3 ships.
2. Why is so little apparent effort expended on balancing the game? There are many ships, such as the Gallente currently, but with many others having glaring weaknesses (t1 ships, tiering system) or being extremely OP, like the dramiel that make those parts of the game hard to play and that consequently drive players away, yet CCP seems largely indifferent to this. Other current examples are mods (hybrids for example, active armour or remote shield repping) and structures (POSes, Sov structures) and Mining (why are belt spawn rates so high when CCP acknowledges there is an oversupply of isk in the game?).
3. Many of us, while liking the new characters made possible by the new character generator, wonder why CCP is so bad at communicating the use of its features or even publishing an illustrated user guide on its features. It seems as if the whole thing was quickly thrown together without much thought. Is this because the character engine (and the forthcoming Incarna expansion) are largely by-products of the development of the World of Darkness game?
4. Many of us wonder why, in the face of so many glaring imbalances and technical problems with the game, CCP spent 4 years working on the Walking in Stations feature (aka Incarna) without much to show for it? Why was CCP so intent on developing its own engine when there are many other engines on the market that can be licensed at a considerably lower cost, with much less effort and in much less time?

[112]
Edited by: Vash Itsumo on 20/01/2011 10:53:27 Question 1: Why does CCP seemingly not react to bots? Even if the bots aren't RMT-ing, it's unfair to those of us who want to play the game properly. There should be simple ways to report when someones botting and someone in place to see, with short term (3 days or so) bans being awarded for first offence, followed by a longer (2 week) ban for the second offence, with it being three strikes and you're out with a permanent ban.
Eve has no excuse for botting. Other MMO's have the excuse "We have too many servers! We don't have enough people to cover all of them, therefore we'll do nothing". Why not use the big deal about Eve which IS the single shard server to get this problem sorted?
Question 2: Why does CCP insist on trying to release 2 'big' new expansions every year? I know the players love new content, but it would be better if we were given things that were released with a polished system, rather than always feeling rushed and not working correctly. I'm all for Incarna, but there's enough semi-unfinished content in the game that could be fixed properly over the next year rather than working on a new concept.

Question 2: Can we expect to see some more artwork, screen shots, videos on both youtube and eveonline.com ... given how out dated most of this content has become. Will there be a makeover.
Question 3: Regarding Planetary interaction, can we have it implemented on the eve-gate ? .. that would be awesome or will eve-gate remain strictly as a social expansion.
Question 4: Can the new AI capable of supporting their own units by the usage of remote repair modules, if not, why hasn't been implemented as to make it more challenging for players that lack the tactical approach.
Question 5: When can we expect to see Incarna deployed in SiSi for the first rounds of tests ?

Will it just be a fancy and slow way of using the station system menu's?
Or will there (In the initial release) be anything to look forward to?
Note that I am aware things will be added in later releases, but I'm asking about the initial release right now. ---

- Do you guys sometimes wonder whether it's all worth it when after pouring your hearts and souls into something as revolutionary as the new Character Creator you receive an overwhelming amount of exaggerated negativity and down-right nastiness from the vocal minority?
- Do you have an ultimate vision for what you want EVE to be (think Apple approach)? Or are you wandering along just adding stuff as the ideas come (think Lost approach)?
- When it comes to player mobility on stations should we be expecting something inspired by Playstation Home or is that overly ambitious at this point? I guess I ultimately envision being able to sit down at a table in a bar and discuss a contract's terms with the prospective operator or play a game of chess with a corp mate while waiting for the rest of the team to show up for an Op. Is this what you are aiming for?

Three easy questions :
- Will players be able to earn ISK through managing a bar in Incarna, for example ? - Is CCP aware of hybrid turrets problems and Gallente players need to cross-train because weaksness of tracking speed, etc... Hybrid are the best damage dealer on the paper, but in fact in EvE, they are not really useful in PvP (or with some very specific ships). I know that the CSM told you about that, so, what do you think about ? - Are you planning to introduce into EvE some T3 Frigates or T3 BC/BS ?
Thank you

I recently warped my orca to a wh to close it and bumped 13km+ away from the wormhole. Also since they are now bumpable (and quite big) getting around them and aligning is a bit of a mess. Is this the new inteded behaviour or a bug you intend to fix?
Also living in wormhole space requires the copying and moving about of large amounts of bookmarks daily, since you recently nerfed that could you compensate by some corp bookmarks? pretty please? I realize that there might be issues but it would massively reduce the tediousness of all the copying.

The lack of character in the avatar was really annoying as I miss my old Headdress' and facial paint, it always made me wonder why sunglasses and amarr male robes were left in but key signature items of the other Bloodlines / races were left out?
In the future will there be anymore customisable options for the Charactergen? IMHO I think everyone looks the same and its difficult to tell race / bloodline just from character portraits anymore.

1) What about assault ships, currently assault ships sems underpowered with the prolification of the faction frigates, specialy the dramiel, are you planning something to tunne up assault ships?
2) In incusion you introduced a "bost" to rockets, still rockets are very short ranged weapons with still low dps, is the actual situation with rockets definitive? Ships like the vengeance seems to not work at all in pvp.
3) Are you planing to introduce a feature like the 3D preview of ships but for avatars. I think that's somethign that can be very cool and no that hard to implement.
4)The current situation of 0.0 warfare is very LAG and Big-BLOB depending, leaving very low marge of "guerrilla" warfare tactics, and other creative strategies, would incursions even worst the situation? adding more ships in the heavy lagged systems where fleet-wars are happening?
5)Proliferation of capital and supercapital ships seems to be everyday bread, are you concerned that those "end-game" ships need a counter.
6) Bots and macroers are a problem, any plans on a 3rth party program to control that, like a punkbuster or something in the lines?

Firstly, could you either provide this otherwise "Live" dev blog in the form of a podcast or even just text script after it takes place? I'm sure we'd all love to have a hard copy of the answers in case we miss something :)
2nd question: will there be any involvement of other empire/pirate factions in Sansha's attacks? it makes little sense for the navies to just stand next to stargates keeping smugglers out when you have a revenant a few AU away...
3rd: when will we get more pirate ships? /me wants to make use out of caldari/minmatar (or amarr/gallente) cross-training!
4th: will the incursions continue indefinitely? sure its fine to be at war for a certain period, but you cant expect all capsuleers to be on standby for sansha attacks for all eternity... that would seriously downgrade all regular missioning, mining, ratting, even pvp... cuz who gets to mine veldspar when supercaps are making asteroid fields out of capsuleer wrecks?
5th: (i know what can i do, i have many questions :p ) will these amazing carbon engine graphics be present in what we expect to be 2011 Incarna? or will we get something really worse, which makes sense? If the character creator was lagging with the creation of one almost static character, what will Jita look like?
6th: from day one of eve i couldn't help but notice the unfairness of shield versus armor tanking: i know most people are armor tankers, but armor should be a generally inferior way of tanking, as we see that hitech ships are shield tankers. no matter how think the armor is, or how fast those nanobots can repair damage, you should create a feature that adds damage types for every set amount of dmg a ship's armor takes (perhaps split the armor into pieces, i.e engines weapon hardpoints, sensors and such). this will make it more realistic (example: targetting a ship's engines to lower speed, or hit sensors to make easier to jam), and it can create additional dillema's for pvp: do i kill his DPS or his ability to web my partner? do i take down the warfare links or the drone control centers? and of course shields would have that as well, but since throughout the universe (eve or not) shields are far superior as they allow minimal structure damage to be taken, shield systems will be preferred for ships with sensitive equipment on board (of course ships like the Damnation or the Archon or any other badass armor tanker will maintain their prominent position. has CCP ever thought of separating a ship like that, so that a more careful and far more realistic approach to PvP can be taken?

One other user has asked : " When do you expect to have additional accessories on the character creator, such as additional glasses (aviators are cool and all, but...), tattoos, piercings and similar items?" I also think the the character-creation still lacks a few things. There should be more color choices. Please give us blue, green and red hair and also more colors with the clothes. Please also give us tattos and piercings. I'm sorry to say that especially the female characters look quite boring. You might even think about introducing other features for special payments. I really would not mind if the re-design of the character would cost some ISK or real money.

- Q - when CCP implements new content for the character creator, other then implementing the many desired and needed haircuts, will we see a return for the iconic and unique face tattoos (war paint)
And will we be able to purchase new clothing with ISK in incarna like sci-fi designed cloths or combat armor?
- Q - And will the character creation UI be upgraded to be similar to other character design layouts to incorporate smoother navigation between items, like grouping them according to the base model
- Q - As for the incursions, will we see a story unfolding as the incursions are resolved, many players are hoping to hunt down the sansha's once the forces have been fought back, and chase them into their own wormholes and attack their POS's
will we see something like that in the near future?
- Q - when will we be able to pilot fighter bombers?
- Q - Will drone settings have a more advanced control system
- Q - we heard you you going to effectively increase the effectiveness of supers by removing jump-bridges, thus reducing the ability of a sub cap fleet (you know . . the plebs) to get to the fight when a cap fleet is dropped? why?

when Incarna will be released, will we be able to do stuff such as setting up shops in stations and in general customise ships, clothing, and perhaps even the things we sell? for example, a player with the related skills at L5 will be able to make higher quality ships than one with lower skills (better shield/armor/cap etc), or be able to choose between high quality (expensive components) and low quality, so that we can finally have a quality over quantity choice for ships? no more set boundaries such as "Tech 2" and "Faction", but instead players will be able to collect components and this will make a ship better in some things and worse in others (one of which can be price). so no more use of sustained shield emitters in caldari ships only, instead these will be a measurement of a ship's kinetic dmg resistance. this way a passive shield tanker can get rid of most of his cap and get himself better shields (or DPS, something passive shield tanks lack), and this will benefit both producer and consumer.
Also, will Incarna serve any purpose other than visual pleasure? missions? buying special goods/participating in auctions? maybe have somehting like a chat room but with 3D holograms? (like in star wars episode 3 the Jedi council meeting)
Another question EvE's future - You have completely forgotten about faction warfare. FW is a PvE thing, where PvP is just supposed to be used against PvEers of each side, but has turned into a highly unprofitable form of just PvPing for fun (if you can afford it). i have 2 questions concerning this: > Will incursion end up like FW, a forgotten and flawed addon? > Will you ever do something to fix FW, which is very promising and very rich in storyline possiblities (for example Caldari siding with the minmatar and giving options for new ships, like pirate ships (need 2 ship skills), but propoert of faction fleets)

I believe that we have the name of the Sansha headquarters/home system in W-Space, it is J235456 and there is a bounty that's around a billion by now i think to the one who will find it and let the anti-Sansha forces get to it

What about being able to paint your ship. I love my ship when iam flying it but sometimes I want to add alittle color in it or just black everything out. Or even with corps. What about a logo that gose on your ship.
Just being able to change anything on your ship besides your loadout would be nice. After all it is your ship

Not found an answer to this anywhere yet: Can logistics repair drones be used to repair their mothership? If not, why not? If so, how is it done.
Seems that if they can repair other ships they should be able to repair mother. It would free up slots and help CPU/power issues regarding the use of active repair modules. A limit to the number of self-repair drones would be best - i.e. only 1 or 2 drones can be used for self repair - so that spider tanking would not be hampered by people using all their drones to selfishly repair themselves.
If this is already a function. Forgive me for a dumb question and watch as I put my dunce cap on and sheepishly go sit in a corner.

CCP keeps on creating new mechanics but barely adds content or expands on them (for example factional warfare, PI, Moonmining, normal mining and new the character creator)
I understand the objective is to create an immersive universe where you can do all sorts of stuff but if the "all sorts of stuff" is too shallow to be interesting then you'll end up with a big pile of nothing.
Most of the things added in the last 4 years have tons and tons of potential but sadly enough never get far enough to be called "finished".
A few examples: - Moonmining resources need to dynamic, period! Why this wasn't so in the first place still baffles me.
- Asteroid mining seems to have gone completely to botters and some new players simply because the mechanic is outdated (never changed at all) and the isk/hour is terrible. It used to be a very major part of eve (for example: It used to be THE main way to get money for an alliance). While it was tedious and boring at times, it also created bonds between members and corporations.
When will we see mining return to the larger part of Eve and will there be new gameplay behind it?
- Drone regions : almost no faction spawns, no officer spawns, no hauler spawns and very few different complexes (IIRC not even any hacking/archeology sites)
- PI : Almost no interaction with other players, no pvp, no sovereignty interaction,... just unfinished.
- The only dynamic thing in eve is the market. Players don't change profession or homes because resources get scarce, if they do so it is because the profits went down because everybody else is doing the same. Making every money-making action in eve be dynamic would improve the overall feel of the game imo.
CCP used to be much better at this 4-6 years ago... what happened?

What are the plans current for lowsec, as there have been several very solid and detailed reports on ideas to make lowsec more than just a warp to zero and cloak on gates to bypass....
When is ccp planning to make the bounty system over, as it currently stands its COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY BROKEN we all know it and i think its even been mentioned in the past.

some questions: 1) will there ever be PI implants? 2) are you guys shocked by what is in my opinion a more negative then positive player response to incursion? 3) in hindsight, would you introduce the incursion expansion in patches or would you rather had done it in one big go? 4) did you fully comprehend that with more then 50.000 characters in eve, having the option to individualize your avatar might be more demanding then maybe anticipated? 5) why does CCP always tries to lure people into low-sec? -having COSMOS agents in otomainen and ihakana for instance -making low-sec planets more luscious -have epic arc mission in or through low-sec 6) is there any chance at all you might introduce more missions in eve, and if so will they be of all kinds (pew, courier, mining etc.) 7) iterating on the removal of learning skills, banning them out of nothing, with a clear communication worked out pretty well. mostly due to expectations, which were not present and therefore took away alot of negativity. do you see using these ambush tactics more in the future, please? 8) could you emulate somewhat on the time and/or manpower being spend on this 'expansion' and past expansions? and maybe the same for the character creator, dust 514 and WiS 9) as it is right now, how far would you say PI is complete? will there be changes in the future or just mere tweaks? 9) could you emulate your thought about wanting to spread out the eve population (for instance with the mission locations and possible low-sec planets with more resources) and having incursions -where 400+ fleets assemble and it gets nasty to play. does it not seem a bit counter productive? 10) is it true that there will be T3 battleships, which are basically the same as T1 and T2 battleships, only with overheating bonuses, or will there be T3 bs and/or frigs with subsystems? 11) if we are not able to change our avatar in the future, are you guys still introducing more personalization to characters like clothes, piercings, tattoos etc.? and how do see players implement this if they cannot change their avatar 12) could it be made possible to have a 'report possible bot miner' option to the game? 13) how are you guys feeling about 2010 not having a fanfest?

Could you please give examples of features you expect/want to be in Incarna and define them as: Certain/Almost Certain/Probably/Possibly going to be included, as well as whether they will be first iteration or later iteration features?
What news of an expansion improving low-sec mechanics such as criminality, drugs, bounties?
Is there any possibility of your adding the following features, and give a (very) vague idea of whether we're talking soon (1-3 expansions away), far (2-4 years), or distant future (after Duke Nukem is released): *Ship theft *Solid ship-ransom mechanics *Wormhole stability-reinforcing structures *A ship/module which interferes with Local *Covert Cynos in high-sec
Thanks for your good work, and don't forget that the players who aren't whining on the forums are often busy enjoying the game.

POS Overhaul is a must, specifically security.
Its rather silly that you can only have 3 different security settings available for a SMA. If you have a corp with over 100 active members, how can you expect to prevent theft, especially in a WH?
Would it be possible to add a mechanic that allows you to "Password" specific ships within an SMA, making security actually possible?

Hello Lemmings and non-lemmings,
Thx for making this one of the games I have visited most the past year. Eve online has an awesome community and still alot of potential to be discovered with icelandic dev magic.
* Been playing STO since they had that last season update and I wonder, what are your thoughts about using gold pressed latinum (or trit !) to make corpses into trophy's ?
* Have read in E-On magazine we lost another application for the mobile phone. Will CCPgames make one of their own this year to give us more power over the game with a mobile ?
* I like how you can use Evegate to sort out the evemails, but what im missing is an IRC client or even an ingame chat option (know its never been done in any game) for more social interaction out of game.
* you promised us tech 3 frigates ? soonÖ I think we need more shiny to have and get blown up ingame
* Faction battlecruisers, expensive to get even more expensive to lose. Fit it with a little extra EHP and one more module slot (expect for the Drake ofc) If ppl think faction bc's will be to powerfull, remember it will just have T1 resistances, and you can bring a dominix to blow one up :)
* With the Noctis we finally got a nice salvage ship, but it needs one more thing, faction cargo expanders, a Noctis will make a nice gank target with that.
* Capacitor batteries need to be available in Faction type to.
* All the destoyer hulls need their signature size reduced, they are way to easily popped compared to af's
* When you have to retreat, hmm do business in high sec, earning money with missions is abit boring. maybe you can randomize npc waves/spawns in a lvl3 or 4 ?
* Like factional warfare maybe we can apply for some form of Concord Duty, not just for combating Sansha but for fighting real Pirates, and give us loyalty points for killing -5.00 and lower sec status pilots. Might even lure more folk into low sec ?
* Plz give us a clearly defined list about game mechanics with regard to Agro/PvP/War, how it all works without a to costly trial and error period.
* Fleet adverts should also be accessibly to pilots that have no standings set towards anyone. Makes rush fleeting possible, with the possibility of getting a spy in your midst.
* Before the Walking in Stations expansion, can you give Eve Radio its own Station in space please ? Having a drink in a bar with great music and DJ's would be epic.
* How will you encourage an all out war between Nation loyalists and anti-Sansha capsuleers ?
Have fun o/

While I have lots of questions regarding the future of EVE and things highly unrelated to game design, I'll drop a few that are somewhat related to this dev blog at least.
How do you expect to expand what you have created initially with the character creator? How was the reaction to it in this expansion compared to what you were expecting or hoping? How did you decide what assets of the character creation system you would be including in this expansion?
What kind of obstacles did you encounter in relation to deploying such a new system as carbon? What about altering a 6-month old mechanic (with PI)? If these are general "sh** happens" obstacles, how do you expect to try to counter these obstacles for the next expansion, especially with such a big one expected this summer? Do you feel that CCP, in general, was as prepared as it could be for this expansion? How does this compare to player consensus? If there is a large difference, how do you expect to bridge that difference in coming expansions?
I admittedly, enjoy the spreadsheets in space aspect of PI, especially with how the game now does most of the math for me for PI, are there plans on being more open about EVE's complexity and tendency to be a spreadsheet in space, similar to PI, and expanding similar functionalities to other areas of game play. POS fuel calculations, usage graphs, visually depicting and comparing modules capacitor usage, powergrid, cpu, meta level in a bar graph format on the market so people can get an idea from a quick glance instead of hunting through 10 info windows? More accurately, spreadsheet graphs in space?
More general questions: How do you guys come up with your ideas, what kinds of thoughts and considerations go into deciding how a feature will be fleshed out in game? What considerations do you make when balancing new aspects of gameplay? How do hopes on player reaction and participation in a feature affect deployment? How much coding and effort really goes into a feature that spans 7500 solar systems, tens of thousands of planets, hundreds of thousands of players/character? What makes it easier for you to handle such a seemingly large number, what makes it more difficult? How does the massive scale of EVE affect your thoughts on what is possible in this universe, does it limit you, or do you feel that it has no effect, or somewhere in between?
I think that's about it for now on questions. Thanks for the opportunity!
oh and since I mentioned coding earlier... Drunk Programmers Courtesy of XKCD

Q: What is your long strategy for EVE (besides the usual 'best SciFi simulator' and 'Incarna and then iterating existing content'), what are your plans?
Q: Will you replace moon harvesting with some PI-variant for moons?
Q: Why do you have no strategy for Incarna? You don't even know what gameplay you want to have in there!
Q: Why are you ignoring the CSM and the playerbase while they are yelling and waving RED FLAGS all over the place for Incarna?
Q: What did you change and what conclusions did you draw from the PI disaster (besides the 'we gave the teams some extra time to deal with unforseeable stuff')? Especially: How did you change your planning strategy for features, since that obviously failed in PI (and is failing for Incarna too)?
Q: Why don't you listen more to the CSM and the players? There is 100 times more gameplay knowledge available in the playerbase than in the whole CCP staff!
Q: What happened to your VISION that made EVE unique?
Q: Why do you insist on microtransactions and claim that you must do it because everyone else is doing it? No one else did a single-sharded MMO, so according to your logic, you shouldn't have done it either. But you did it - and you were successful. So, why do you still insist on not being different and unique but just another one amongst thousands useless f2p mmos?
Q: Why are you still the best - even with so many flaws and failures?

Q3: Why not but instead of only NPC haulers also some NPC Battle group or even NPC Capital ships in local from time to time? Q4: Is it only me or is the background still boring?
After 5 years on eve with my main i feel a bit leftdown on the quality you guys deliver lately. hence the question: Q5: With the realease of WOD and DUST s there any chance we are going to see programmers return to eve or should we start waiting for EvE2 to see some imrpovements?

The changes to PI brought a new extractor type. Its "fitting" costs are implemented as the 250 grid that every extractor head it can install has been made cheaper, plus 100 in top. This strongly penalizes any setup that does not use the ECU to its full extent. As a result of this, complete P3 chains on a single planet have become practically impossible to set up, as the fitting cost involved in setting up 4 ECUs are prohibitive.
It has also devalued skilling up to Elite command centers, because the upgrade from advanced to elite might increase your spare powergrid from 500 to 2500, which would have allowed 3 additional extractors in the old system, it brings now only benefit if you still have extractor head slots free, unused and need more of the same resource the ECU is already gathering. Using this additional spare grid to install extractors 11 to 13 is impossible, as the option costs of the ECU already prevent its setup.
Was this an intentional change away from the sandbox to force players to use/setup PI in a certain way? If yes, why? If not, why did it go live the way it did? No regression checks to ensure that what was possible, still is possible?
The extractor heads remaining at the old extractor cost of 800mw, with the ECU taking up additional 100mw is a fairly obvious and non-disruptive fitting cost scheme to transition the old to the new system. The radical change away from this suggests intent that clearly contradicts the toolbox approach found so far in PI and EVE generally. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

Edited by: Andrea Griffin on 20/01/2011 18:24:29 Do you have any plans for involving the pirate factions in faction warfare? The Sansha Incursions seemed like a perfect way to introduce this, but it didn't happen. Will players ever be able to assist the Sansha, or other pirate factions, in an official way other than running missions in null-sec?

Edited by: Spugg Galdon on 20/01/2011 18:24:16 Heavy missiles:
Basically they shoot too far IMHO. I would like to ask if there are any ideas on how to rebalance long range missiles. I'd like to suggest that the flight time of all long range missiles be reduced and new low and mid slot modules were introduced that extend the range of missiles or the precision depending on scripts. I think that this would balance out the order of things seems as at present gun boats need to fit modules that extend the range of their weapons where as missiles users do not. So they don't need to choose between tank/gank/tackle which makes their fits unbalanced (read 'The Drake Problem' )
Hybrid weapons:
Is there anything in the works to make hybrids actually "Hybrid" and useful. The changes to close range T2 ammo was a huge step in the right direction. Maybe if you fiddle with the other ammo types to give Hybrids Alpha/tracking/range/rof etc. then maybe we would of true Hybrids

When do you plan to switch 0.0 and low sec Local to delayed mode? It is understood that the ship's d-scanner will have to be significantly upgraded (both in capability and interface/usability) and possibly the scanning mechanic changed (think sonar-type passive/active, etc.) for this to happen.
It's worth considering changing the scanning first and once that's acceptable going with delayed local.
CCP Zulu was pretty sure about having this on SISI in 2009, however this didn't work out. In recent past several devs mentioned that this is being discussed, if only at low level. There is significant w-space experience data. It's about time this happened.
Nevermind. Didn't realize this is Incursions only. Hopefully this question will fit within the format of one of the other live sessions. ...

OK here is one question.
I play this game (like so many others) for five years, i figure i play for about 5-20 hours a day depenting on the day and my shedule. now that means nearly 11000 hours of game time. Not too bad. Now if i invested this time in to working part time somewere for our average 6 euros per hour loan i would have earned a bit less than 66000 euros extra and i would not have gotten fat-er to beggin with.
Here is the Question: Do you feel that what you deliver is worth 66000 euros of fun? The answer is more like half of it yes. But not all.
This is excell in space and this is my opinion. Start working, so many thousands of voices cant be all wrong.

Will npc space in 0.0 wich are not conquestable ever turn into something of use?
As of now its nothing more then unoccupied space, that you can at highest lvl put moon-mining towers. What if it would instead be pieces of goldmines, npcspace with named npcs with special spawns etc, how about bit harder anomilies then havens/sanctums. Where you would actually need to bring the big knife to defeat your enemy. Or up the chance to have wormholes spawn in these spaces, so as to make these constellations more sought after, thus also making them pawns in wars for space that are otherwise of no big interest.

My question.
What is being done about the following issues:
The Overview
1: The distances represented by the overview are not an accurate representation of the distance of objects on grid. *****A: Cannot jump when 0km from a gate because "You must be within 2500m" Example: http://71.244.125.30/shots/jump.jpg *****B: Getting decloaked by a gate when you're stationary and > 2000m from the gate (without the gate or your ship showing velocity) *****C: Pointing ships that exceed the range of your point. *****D: Being pointed by unbonused ships from distances that exceed their point range *****E: Unrealistic damage being done from excessive range (ungrouped 220mm auto-cannons hitting a Sabre from 71km for perfect damage "every shot" with EMP) Exploit suspected. 2: Sorting *****A: Column headers disappear for no reason Example: http://71.244.125.30/shots/headers.jpg *****B: Sort order is rarely honored when multiple objects are on grid *****C: Sort order reverts to reverse order at random *****D: Sort order is not preserved 'per-tab' 3: Objects on overview may or may not exist *****A: Phantom objects on the overview *****B: Doubling of legitimate objects on the overview, each with their own unique distance and velocity *****C: When a "Doubled" object warps, or cloaks, a phantom remains *****D: Doubled objects can even be targeted, and fired upon for no dmg 4: Selections *****A: More than a single item on the overview can be selected simultaneously. *****B: A selected item is often not properly reflected in the "Selected Item" window. **********i. I can select gate A in overview, click "warp" in the Selected Items", and warp to gate B
--------------- The HID
1: Clicking (via the mouse) *****A: Double clicking does not appear to exist in EvE. What does exist we'll call "Rapid Clicking" **********i. Two clicks in space does not guarantee that your ship will move in the direction of the click **********ii. If you click once, move the mouse, and click again (quickly), eve registers a "rapid" click **********iii. Control+LC a target, and control+LC a second target (quickly), and your ship will begin to approach the second target. *****B: Rapid clicking for > 5 seconds blocks all mouse input to eve for 3 seconds..... Only if you stop clicking for 3 seconds will you be able to use your mouse again. *****C: Rapid clicking (approach for example) versus single clicking yields totally different results. The result of rapid clicking is usually more desirable, until issue "B" occurs. 2: Text *****A: Typing more than 5 or six lines in an eve-mail, petition, or text input box (a channel MOTD for example) produces garbled and strange results. Text jumps around and is impossible to edit. *****B: Text lines(in chat, overview, etc) are sometimes condensed and unreadable *****C: Pasting text (into a chat input field) does not give focus to the chat input field. You must "re-click" the input field to continue typing (or hit enter)
------------------ The "Selected Items" window 1: Does not properly interface with other windows. *****A: Does not always represent the item selected in the overview *****B: Does not always represent the item selected in space 2: Has an unintuitive layout for many objects (the "winner" here has to be the "view planet" button) 3: The "Orbit" directive seems to chose a vector at random, often moving your ship in the worst possible direction 4: Orbit distances are not honored.

------------------------ Windows 1: Roll Up *****A: Windows "roll up" when areas other than the window shade are clicked. *****B: Windows "roll up" when pinned *****C: Windows sometimes "roll down" 2: Pinning *****A: Pinning a window seems to make it transparent, but does not pin a window. *****B: As a joke, there is a check-box in general settings that says something like "Actually pin pinned windows?" *****C: It's a joke because it doesn't actually "Pin" the pinned windows. They still roll up/down, and do the things pinned windows should not. 3: Disappearing *****A: Ability to lose static tabs (local, corp, etc) *****B: Ability to lose static windows (overview, selected item) 4: Disassociation *****A: "Selected Items"" becomes disassociated with the overview and space resulting in only "Item Selected" displayed and no buttons *****B: Local chat becomes disassociated with the system resulting in pilots not being represented in local (exploit?) 5: Blocking windows are windows disable all input to the rest of eve. These windows cannot exist. *****A: Filing a petition blocks all eve input *****B: Selecting a quantity while looting blocks all input *****C: Downtime notification blocks all input ------------------------
Modules 1: Activation *****A: After decloaking, clicking a module icon or pressing the associated function key does not guarantee module activation. **********i. Example: Decloak and launch a bomb. You need to spam the bomb button *****B: Often, "external factors" prevent module activation. The module can be revived by docking, unfit, repackage, refit 2: Deactivation *****A: Deactivated modules often continue to cycle for one or two extra cycles **********i. Deactivating an MWD when a bomb launches often results in the MWD continuing to cycle beyond the end of the current cycle, resulting in death for small ships, even when the module has finished cycling **********ii. Occasionally, cloaking will fail to disable the MWD, allowing you to move at a fairly high velocity, almost permanently, while cloaked **********iii. Deactivating a jammer often results in a successful jam (from a deactivated jammer), much like deactivating a salvager results in a successful salvaging attempt (after a dozen failed attempts). **********iiii. Warp scram/disruptors on a jammed ship often continue to cycle. While the intention appears to be that they finish out their cycle, the reality is that they often continue to operate for well over their five second timer. **********iiiii. Modules finish their cycle even when cloaked or in warp ( An attacker can hold a point and be untargetable while cloaking or warping out for up to 5 seconds) 3: Module cycle timers *****A: Module cycle timers do not appear to be linked (in any way) to the actual cycle time of the module they are supposed to represent. **********i. After module deactivation, modules will often display a cycle timer for 5-10 seconds "which blocks module reactivation" **********ii. Module timers can be manipulated by on-lining/off-lining an associated module (off-lining a sig dist amp resets active ECM timers) 4: Primed modules (blinkey) *****A: Often enter an unprimed state for no apparent reason **********i. During target acquisition **********ii. When a target is locked *****B: Often fail to activate **********i. Fail to activate when a target is locked, entering an unprimed state **********ii. Fail to activate when a target is locked and remain in a primed state **********iii. Activate a full 3 seconds after a target is locked (point is primed, target is locked, target warps away, logs show "target is no longer present")

Agreed - even with simplest setup of extracting one resourse - due to the power requirments I am extracting a lot less in a 5 hour time frame as before. Either there needs to be a power requirment adjustment or each extracting head needs to be more efficient.

My question revolves around the topic "spreadsheets in space", which Dalton Vanadis already commented on. Among other things, he likes the graphs. I also like graphs as feedback, and I think the graphs are also good "for" something else : against bots.
While I know that using colours and geometry and sound to represent the game world will eventually deter the seeing and hearing impaired, here is the...
Question : How do you feel about expanding on the "heatmap concept" introduced with PI, thus representing the game world less in ( machine-readable ) numbers ? How about sound feedback as an additional -if not central- reference for a particular feature ? |

Overloading
1: Overloading via the rack buttons produces unexpected results *****A: Modules that are deactivated and reactivated are no longer overloaded, even though their corresponding "rack" is overloaded *****B: Canceling overload via the rack icons is unreliable and gives incorrect feedback **********i. Since single clicking doesn't work (see HID section 1), there's often no way for a pilot to determine if he has successfully disabled overload via the rack. **********ii. The only semi-reliable way to cancel an overload is to leverage the right click context menu. 2: Overloading via the fingernails is unreliable *****A: Fingernail often does not enable/disable overload *****B: Disabling overload on a cycling module produces no visual confirmation/feedback *****C: Overloading is affected by the module cycling bug (See modules section II) **********i. A deactivated module in an overloaded state continues to cycle after it's last intended cycle. Module damage continues 3: Overloaded weapon groups do not function as intended *****A: Damage is not applied evenly to all members of a group *****B: When a single member of a group reaches 100% damage, the group is disabled rather than broken **********i. Players with grouped modules are at a significant disadvantage when compared to ungrouped players.
---------------------------------
Ewar Indicators 1: The timers of the attacker (avatar indicator and module cycle timer), server, and target do not appear to be linked in any way. *****A: Avatar timer shows 15 remaining seconds, module cycle timer shows 11 remaining seconds, target client shows 18 remaining seconds. **********i. Example of target/attacker desync: https://bugs.eveonline.com/files/509930232438.jpg **********ii. Example of attacker/module timer desync: https://bugs.eveonline.com/files/50993023243.jpg 2: Chance based module success/failure appear to be calculated three times (target, attacker, server) and do not appear to be linked in any way. *****A: Attacker registers a successful jam. Target is not jammed **********i. Example of target/attacker ECM desync: https://bugs.eveonline.com/files/50972719257.jpg
----------------------------------- Session Changes: 1: The cloak *****A: The gate cloak does not deactivate a consistent fashion. Clicking "approach gate" followed by cloak often leads to "Interference from the cloaking you are doing is preventing your systems from functioning at this time." *****B: Actions taken when "blackscreened" sometimes negates your gate cloak. This includes any doule clicking, and the use a Push To Talk Screen.
------------------------------------ Show Info: 1: Tabs *****A: Tab choice is not properly preserved. If "Notes is selected on Character A, followed by a show-info of character B (who has a bio), character B's employment history is shown. If notes is selected on Character A, then notes should be selected on Character B.
----------------------------------- Timers (general) 1: Timers vs Attributes *****A: Timers do not match item attributes **********i. Module cycle times often do not match the attributes for the item displayed in an item's "show info" in constellation where multiple ships are present (verifiable via game-logs) **********ii. Module cycle indicators often match neither the item cycle time attribute, nor the logged cycle time of the module.

Why is PI still a click fest? Granted you made extracting less of a click fest; routing & setting up processors is still as bad as it was, Even worse-so when you consider that in order to make higher tier items you have to change extractors, schematics & routes every few days. Will there be any improvments on this end, such as grouping processors, or easier routing.
Why do my hard earned Sansha standings have absolutely no effect on the sansha incursion NPC's? IE why do they agress me even tho I have +6ish with Sansha's nation/true power. If the incursions were to use an empire faction, say the caldari navy; You would have never gotten away with releasing the expansion with the NPC's killing those who have positive standings with them. Do you feel that because it is a 0.0 faction & thus affecting fewer people you can get away with ****ing over the people who have grinded up the standings?
Not about incursion but: Who the **** balanced faction ships? and how did they come to the conclusion that the sansha line needed to be nerfed, but gave us the current angel line-up.
Why is it that certain well known & widely used game mechanics are suddenly deemed exploits? ECM Burst aggro/Ancoring structures before DT. These have been used for years, why is it now suddenly an exploit.
Do you feel its really fair to have players pay for future character style options when what was made available is so woefully lacking.

More Issues:
The Cloak 1: Cloaking *****A: Five second attribute is broken **********i. A ship often cannot be decloaked during the 5 second cloaking delay if no object is present within 2000m when cloak is initiated. If a ship cloaks, and at second 2, I approach to within <2000m, and at second 4 have exceeded 2000m, then the ship continues to cloak. *****B: Cloak module feedback is broken **********i. If the repair of a cloaking device is initiated, then canceled, and the cloak is engaged, the module only appears to be green for 10 seconds. After this time period, the module will indicate an inactive status "even though it is still active" **********ii. The cloak module indicator feedback is often slow to respond, leading to unnecessary decloaking when attempting to engage the module repeatedly (because it doesn't work reliably to begin with) 2: Decloaking *****A: Decloaking appears to take time, which not a listed attribute **********i. press the F1 key to decloak, shortly followed by the F2 key to drop a bomb. The bomb does not launch. Bombers must rapid click the bomb deployment hot-key until they have visual confirmation of a launch. The bomber is exposed for 3-4 seconds before receiving visual confirmation. *****B: Sensor recalibration times do not appear to reflect the attributes
Wrecks 1: Looting *****A: The wreck full/empty indicator is inaccurate and does not always work as intended **********i. Wrecks containing loot somtimes display an empty indicator **********ii. Empty wrecks sometimes display a full indicator *****B: Loot in wrecks is often not visible **********i. Opening a wreck sometimes takes an inappropriate amount of time to display the contents. **********ii. Wreck contents are often sorted strangely, forcing the looter to have to scroll down to see the contents *****C: Loot pulled from wrecks is often 2: Position *****A: The position of the wreck in the overview is often different from the position of the wreck in space **********i. Characters within 2500m of a wreck are unable to oen wrecks, a "You must be within 2500m" message is displayed. **********ii. Characters salvaging wrecks have their salvagers deactivate after 1 cycle (or fail to activate) with an out-of-range message. 3: Error messages *****A: Simultaneous looting of a wreck leads to an "Item is not yours to take" error, which is not informative *****B: Quantity selection popup blocks mouse input.
Grids and spacial/temporal issues: *****A: Grid boundries prevent ships from seeing one another regardless of range **********i. Warping to zero km of a destination can land you offgrid of the destination **********ii. A Locked target crossing a grid boundry becomes unlocked **********iii. Drones pursuing a locked target accross a grid boundry are often lost **********iiii. Bombs and probes seem to be able to cross grid boundries. This can be exploited resulting in bombs hitting you without the visual prescense of a bomber. **********iiiii. Grids can be manipulated in such a way that the space between 2 on-grid points is offgrid from both points. *****B: The time/location of a client action is not the time/location of the server action **********i: A stealth bomber moving 200k/sec can drop a bomb, and get hit by the bomb. This is not possible given a bombs attributes.
External Factors *****A: External factors prevent numerous actions and show up at random times **********i. Without warning, indication, or cause, a ships MWD may stop functioning due to "External Factors". The only remedy is to dock, unfit, repackage, and refit the affected MWD **********ii. Without warning, indication, or cause, a ship may fail to activate its warp drive due to "External Factors".

It is basically to the point that looks are the only reason to pick a certain group, and some of us have found that our characters possess different physical features than we originally intended them to possess. This makes our characters end up looking completely different than we'd like, and are unable to change it. For instance, some minmatar males cannot be changed from looking like a scruffy old guy. You can, at best, get him to become a scruffy middle-aged guy, but that is the best you can do. It REALLY takes away from the process if this is not how you envisioned your toon.

Is it your intention to force players to use incarna to carry out any actions they are currently able to do in EVE? And if not, what will we be doing with our shiny new avatars when incarna launches?
Do you think it's likely that in the future we'll pay a for a cosmetic item via microtransaction and then have to pay a second time to have our picture taken with that item?

1. Why do so few frigate and cruiser sized NPCs warp disrupt? Wouldnt it both be more realistic and a better challenge if the vast majority of small short range ships did, as in player fitted ships?
2. Please could you comment, from a game-design perspective, on the fact that it is generally comparably profitable to run agent missions in empire space as to use equivilant income sources in 0.0 or lowsec, without the attendant risks.
3. Now you have new NPC AI, is there a good game-design reason not to apply it to all NPCs, specifically level 4 agent mission NPCs, or is not doing this merely a fop to change-resistant players. Should there be any risk (apart from falling asleep at your PC) to a competent player running level 4 agent missions?
4. Botting is probably the largest single source of income in Eve. Many MANY alliances are funded by it, many turn a blind eye to it. Its very clear that very few 'botters', provided they do not RMT, are banned or otherwise prevented from botting by CCP. Why dont you do something about this from a game design perspective (for example by giving players better tools to kill bots (longer logoff timer etc)?

Hey everyone, please keep your questions coming. There's quite a lot to work with in this thread, but what we could use are some more questions about the improvements we've made to Planetary Interaction in the Incursion expansion.
To that end, I'm going to leave this thread open a bit longer, until 11:00 UTC today (cutoff now updated in the announcement post).
Thanks for your questions submitted so far, and please fire away with more questions for CCP about Planetary Interaction!

Yes. They're on that little table on the right, as you enter the front door. Right there next to the bowl with the coins in it... but what's this, a Hello Kitty keychain?

If it's been asked before, I apologize, but I ask again anyways;
Questions: When will tattoos and other accessories (like monocles ;) ) be introduced? Will we be able to go back and add them to our existing faces? And how many PLEX do you plan on charging for the privilege?
Thanks === Q u o t e: If the servers aren't up, its not a hotfix. |
