who? those who hacked or those who use outdated protection. don't be so quick to blame hackers, they do a very important job when it comes to networks. if we ever get to the stage where computers and information is safe, that will be because of the hackers.
its very clear the last few weeks, alot of sys admins and company really don't give a rats bum to our information. using outdated software, not being bothered to patch KNOWN exploits, i could go on about this subject.
The only downside to what is going on, is big company are now in bed with governments trying to make the internet into a fish pond. and sadly support is now growing, these groups are dead on right, it is a war.
and why do people call them hackers, a hacker is someone who hacks into software, a cracker is someone who cracks into networks.
last few years tho people don't refer to crackers and use hackers for everything :S
Yep and armed drug cartells do very good job of keeping narcotic police awarness and readiness.
Regular Murderers do the great job of employing police.
arsonist do great job in keeping fireman well equiped.
Rapist do great job of forcing women to learn sufficient self-defence ?
Shell i continue....
We as an species are truly ****ed when you archieve so high moral relativity that you actually can see the point, which isnt there.
As for the rest of your point... could or could not be... Not that it essentially matters since world wide civil war is on the way, it goes slowly but it will reach us.

Actually, hackers ARE the forefront of computer security technology.
Every single advancement in computer security has been driven by hackers. This is something you always have to be on top of, otherwise... well, you get a situation like what happened here... or worse. Look how things went for Sony for instance.
You can nay-say it all you want, but that's not going to change the truth of the statement.

Good, let's put your bank account into the foreground of security technology.
Nay-say that.

Have to agree with this.
I would much prefer the game down for a bit, if they thought there was the possibility that the servers could become compromised.
After all, NO computer is immune from hacking, its just a matter of trying to combat the attacks as they come. Of course, some things are avoidable (usernames/passwds in a text file anyone?) but, if they felt this was the correct thing to do at that time, and to be honest, this group of hackers have proved they will attack hand out data to anyone... I would say that pulling the plug was the correct way to go...

So yeah good job all in all!
No risk of the "attacker" getting any info if they can't access the network :P
*hugz for CCP*
Maybe you should do a better job of explaining to people what a DDOS is to stop nonsense panicking about account information too...
Detecting a successful DDOS takes zero skills. No one can access the service anymore, it is kinda fing obvious what has happened unless you brought it down yourself...
Also a ddos attack makes the server inaccessibly to anyone, including the attackers. So they can't get your account information because they no one can access any information at all, which is the hole point of the attack.

from the Abovetopsecret forums:
"I hope to hell that there are a lot of EvE players in AnonOps and they make a go at LulzSec. Time for a god damn Cyber Civil War. It'll be interesting to see if LulzSec gets any retaliation out of Russia. EvE has a very large contingent of Russian players, mostly pvpers too"
I would assume that eve has its fair share of 1337 haxorz, I know for sure eve players know how to 'infiltrate' a group and make all their base belong to them. So on paper it's only a matter of time before 'lulsec' find their personal info up on bittorrent, (for the lulz). At least I hope so.

Is there a plan in place or changes being reviewed to prevent mitigate such attacks in future?
Also, why can we not change our account payment details (Credit cards) until 30 days game time remains, that is ludicrious.
How about not storing it at all (or opt in) and let us enter it when we want to add more game time, therefore mitigating breach risk even more.

Is CCP working with the ISPs flooding the servers, and Twitter / Lulz domain hosters to get them taken down?
What is CCP doing? Can somebody update us?

Yeah, they won't ever put somethiong fake on it to get somebody else bracing for war, then they hit somebody not suspecting it.
There is a reason they don't hit steam.
They probably cannot take down steam, too many servers spread all over and they have their own games on it .

Don't need to - the numerous data breaches and intentional business disruptions should give any legal system enough ammo to one-shot 'em.
EDIT: Oh, nice. They went and forwarded their call-line to the FBI regional office in Detroit. Really smart, Lulzsec, giving LEOs reason to partyvan you.
EDIT2: Sheesh, editing or quoting still bleeps my name? Can we get a proper contextual text filter sometime?

Well, based on the number of threads getting locked in General again, it can mean one of two things.
1. CCP Zymurgist's shift has started.
or
2. The sirens are beginning to wail in the background.
Everyone duck and cover like they taught you in school.
They still teach that right? What do you mean the Soviet Union is no more? Ouch!! My arthritis is acting up, dammit.
