It IS a serious question - regardless of what side you're on. What do you want this event known as? Because no matter what you think about EVE Online and CCP, this really is a special event in the history of the game - comparable to the wars that have been fought within the game itself.
"Monocle-gate" has been one suggestion. "The Incarna Incident" another. "The Jita Riot" "The War on NEX" (Playing off the 'War on Terrorism' in US) "The Capsuleer Uprising" "The Day the Space Ponies Came" "The Fearless Incident"
Please post any and all ideas for what YOU will know this event as, whether or not EVE survives into the future. 3rd part media has focused largely on the Monocle, generally missing the point of the rioters that the fear is over game-altering purchasable items in NEX. I think it can safely be said the majority of the player-base was angry about the NEX prices, but protesters and anti-protesters are divided on the direction CCP is taking.
Relative to the Theadnaught, now turned 'Threadtitan' with over 9000 posts and 300 pages, some are calling for the 400th page to dub it 'The Threadpocalypse' - Should EVE truly fall apart from this event, it truly would be the 'the thread to end all threads' in EVE Online.

So far what's being pushed is Monoclegate, The Golden Goose Revolution, and Jita Blockade (for the actual event). Monoclegate appears to be the most popular for the entirety of the situation. As a side note, I spotted a 'Himargate' in the Threadtitan - it does rhyme closer and many say that his email is what really pushed this over the edge.

Depends, sounds like you have your mind set on a name that does not in fact give an accurate description of events, how about:
- Shadow Boxing Rebellion. - Skinny-dip in the Pool of Stupidity/Insanity. - Disinformation, Best Information. - Independent Thought is for the Weak. - The Rage-quit Bonanza (probably inaccurate since most will return when the drugs wear off). - Impotence = Importance Campaign.

As an Event Title I favour:- "The Big Pants Protest."
This got me a bit carried away...
As I children's book title I quite like:- "Emperor Zulu's New Clothes"
As a film title I quite like:- "A Pair Of Pants Too Far"
I still can't get over the fact that they thought $70 of Plex -> Aurum -> clump of pixels resembling a Space Monocle would somehow appeal to Eve's playerbase, which leans heavily towards cynical and bloody-minded players.

"******ed players jumping to conclusionsgate."
"we pay their salary and they don't listen" sounds a lot like "i pay that cops salary and still got a ticket!"
P2W started with Plex. Protesting now is kinda meh. I really hope they do introduce T3 Frigs/ammo and such through the NeX store. Ill buy one...either with plex or the market.
This NeX store is not a p2w button you know. It is only p2w if the items are locked to a character. Anyone can buy and sell on the open market. So everyone can participate. Even the protestors. And not trying to talk down to anyone or anything. If you are quitting just quit.

If CCP had introduced any non-vanity items in the NeX that would affect the gameplay, then i would be right beside all the angry players protesting CCP's decision. But since that hasn't happen, i won't waste 1 minute of my free time shooting statues and making the game unplayable for others.

Spend a minute to (gasp) think ahead, knowing how corporations think. By the time they DO introduce non-vanity items it will be far, far too late for YOU to make any impression. Fear not - we'll save the game for you. Just be duly grateful later on and and we'll post you a nice, shiny "I JUST SAT ON MY ASS" lapel pin.

This is true. In psychology it is understood that a serial killer without a nickname causes more fear. However, the person that the nickname is refering to is what poeple remember, not the victims. There has to be three similar crimes with at least one thing in common over a short time span for it to be a serial killer according to FBI's definition of a serial killer, therfore victims as in plural.
So with that, I'd call this event: "The Monocle Incident". Past tense.
Protesting the war in Iraq did nothing, even with millions of protesters world wide in pretty much every western nation in the world. Why would this one be any different? It's just a game. Money talks and bulls**t walks.

We didn't write Fearless. We didn't draft Hilmar's email. We didn't give Zulu the $1000 pants analogy. The bogey-men are CCPs creation, and they're far from invisible.

Do you even think about the implications of what you say? Yes, CCP cannot afford this kind of outrage, especially when their resources are stretched across three development projects. Because we raged, they retreated back across the line they brashly stepped over. Because we raged.
Without the protests, there would be no middle ground because there would be no second side. CCP ignored the CSM's input for the first implementation of the NeX, they ignored the CSM's advice for damage control. DO you honestly believe for a single moment that they would have called an emergency meeting of the CSM had the community not exploded?
