How cool is a game in which a new player naively spends RL money for ingame currency, and naively follows a fully credible yet false recruitment/real scam procedure?
Do you, new player, actually realize the PLEX you bought and sold for isk has a fair chance of having been bought back ingame by goons? Which means, you paid for their subscription, and they got their isk back by scamming you.
This 'game' allows one to play for free by taking advantage of other people's lack of malice, and their belief that people playing video games share some form of common decency instead of solipsistic absolute relativism.

There are something like 165,000 registered members on SomethingAwful.com only a very small percentage of them play EVE. I would contend it's almost completely impossible to find a game we don't play in some significant numbers. Hell we run dozens of private game servers for WoW, Minecraft, DayZ, and the like.
Unfortunately for you, EVE probably has the most abrasive of the goon enclaves. Most other games we're a little bit more approachable. Though in either case we hold our allies to a high standard of posting and chillaxness so you're probably SOL. |

In what reality could you possibly think I would consider you, any member of your alliance, or your online community, an allie? Nothing personal but as a Goon you and your comrades epitomize multiple aspects of the human condition that I personally despise.

No offense you should know its not legal to scam in the recruitment channel.
If it wasn't in the recruitment channel it is still "legal".
Its pretty ironic because of the Soundwave quote about some of the players not making it being a good thing. I understand what he meant but if you put that quote next to a Goon recruitment scam for people to see it will certainly put a dent in new subs. The rule against using the recruitment channel to find marks was lifted long ago. Scamming in the recruitment channel would be more along the lines of linking scam contracts or whatever, which isn't allowed (nor is "legitimate" trading, for that matter) please leave |

Scamming in the recruitment channel would be more along the lines of linking scam contracts or whatever, which isn't allowed (nor is "legitimate" trading, for that matter) I fully support what the goons do on almost every level, however I have to admit that this is the one area where I sometimes wish they would lighten up a little.
I fully realize that new players need to find out at some point that no one is holding their hands... that they must look out for themselves... but I think that often people haven't had a fair chance to develop that mindset yet when they get hit by this.
I just get concerned that it sometimes costs us what would eventually be some very good players.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want CCP to come down on it in some heavy handed way, that would do far more harm than good.
I just wish it could be a decision that your organization made internally. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

I am sorry that an errant member of Goonswarm has scammed you, this is a tragic situation for new players and I firmly believe that CCP should ban scamming in all its forms.
The fact that they promised to carrier jump your items in for free is simply ridiculous- for half of what you paid them, I will be able to give you your own carrier so that you can do it yourself, risk free.

I thought the ban on scamming from the recruitment channel was lifted? has it been replaced? Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

Joining goonwarm was easy for me. A senior commanding officer told me that all i needed was to pay 500 million isk or 1 plex and he would take care of me. He was very nice and helpful. He even sent me a link to where i could buy a plex from. when i told him i did not half any real world money he talked me through using my moms credit card and everything.
And his help did not stop there. so far he has also AT HIS OWN EXPENSE moved all my stuff out to goon space for me. TOTALLY FREE! and he did all this for me even though my application has not even finished yet.
Even better he offered me the special ADVANCED PROMOTION option. For only one more plex or 500 milllon isk i will be guaranteed the rank of GOON CORPORAL once i finish my training. that means that i will be almost an officer. Pretty cool! he also said once i was in goonspace he would show me the goon secrets for turning isk into real money and that i could pay my mom back before she noticed the money i spent on her card.
My only complaint, and this is MINOR and i am not complaining (as a future good officer i would never do that) is that they are pretty slow processing applications. I half been sitting in Jita in my Ibiss for two weeks now and still no word. But thats probably because i think my recruiter is on vacation. hopefully he is back soon.
if anyone is interested in talking to my recruiter and joining i will be happy to put you in touch with him once he gets back in game.

There is literally nothing we can do to police recruitment scams to prevent people from scamming legitimate newbies and such a thing isn't even on the totem pole of org priorities.
But a new player is rarely a lucrative target for a scam unless they've purchased PLEX. The usual guideline is 3 months or older, and by your third month you should know that you can get scammed in EVE. Many of our marks, including all of my own, are years-old veterans who are either totally oblivious to this fact or aware that scamming exists in EVE but gullible enough to fall for it anyway. please leave |
