also those wishing to pvp would still buy ships, and non pvp would still wish to get better ships, and i never said to turn of the npc pirates, i also never said to get rid of it entirely, just make it optional |

You have no idea what you are talking about.
Just think of it for a wile, what would happen if total invulnerability would be available on a competitive PvP server?

competitive? I am not sure I wanna call it that, mostly because I havent seen any actuall money making tournaments. invulnerability... if you, like me, dont like pvp you avoid it like the plague so the invulnerability should not make that much of a difference.
I'd actually like to see us be allowed to pay some addtional amount to get immunity and then if ever discovered to participate in pvp in any way, shape or form the immunity is null and void permanently |

Let's put it in from a PvE aspect and compare it to "other games".
There is no gear chase in this game like you get with other games.
Each expansion in those games adds items that make other things worthless - completely and utterly worthless. You don't find "level 80's" picking up level 5 weapons and using them.
In EVE you do.
You have years old chars in this game climbing into rifters, merlins, tristans, etc... Ships you get for free during your tutorials - and they aren't using those ships "just for lulz" - ACTUAL use to accomplish tasks that a char of their age needs to do.
A "since beta" player, who took 3 years off in the middle, comes back and can use the ships they have stored and be of equivalent effect as they were "back in the day".
In other words - this is exceptionally good design for those who "take a break" and those who "have real lives" vs the caffeine IV drip basement dweller with a catheter. They retain the ability to compete in this game world.
In EVE - when things are blown up, they need to be replaced.
Without that blowing things up and replacing them, you have very little activity in the market and the market is how PvE players measure their success in this game. "I make 'x' isk per hour! I have millions/billions/trillions!!!" PvP tend to use different measuring sticks but PvE - that's their "lookie me!!! I ROCK!" metric.
There are those that will avoid losing ANYTHING and those types cannot be allowed to 'take over the game'. Simply put, it would destroy the economy in short order and even they would pack it out being as almost no market movement would occur.
As such, there is a need to force such players into lose situations. Without it, they'd crash the market and the game would grind to a virtual halt.
No, it's not nice. Many of those that participate in such "PvP" activities can make one feel they need to take a shower after just chatting with them. As I tend to think of them "what I wipe off my shoe when I step wrong after the dog has been outside..." Disgusting, something you may mutter about but it'll rarely do more than annoy unless you're a bit of a twit yourself.
If you want a dynamic economy to buy and sell into - then either you have gear chasing or you have other ways for stuff to be gotten rid of/made obsolete - this game uses PvP mechanics to accomplish it.
Think of it as a "necessary evil". |

If you mine the asteroid, you get the ore instead of me. Competitive. If you sell your stuff, you get the money from the sale instead of me. Competitive. If you find the complex and open the can, you get the loot instead of me. Competitive. Repeat for everything you could conceivable do in EVE.
Quote:invulnerability... if you, like me, dont like pvp you avoid it like the plague GǪwhich means you're not thinking in terms of PvP and how it will be used. If I'm immune, then I can take all your stuff and there is nothing you can do to stop me. If I'm immune, I can spy your entire alliance and give a live-feed of your fleet movement, and you can't get rid of me. If I'm immune, I can deliver every last item in Jita to your enemies, and not only will they be well supplied with everything imaginable, but you will have nothing, and you cannot keep your enemies from having it all.
Immunity, even in the most limited capacity, inherently does not work in a competitive PvP environment.
Go back to page three and look at the list I made there over things that simply must not be allowed to anyone that is GÇ£PvP immuneGÇ¥ and consider how much of what you're doing every second you're logged in (hell, even when you're not logged in) is done in direct competition with other players GÇö PvP. Good job. Keep at it. GÇöGÇöGÇö GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥ GÇö Karath Piki-á |

We all compete for ISK, resources and space. Competition is everywhere - in the belts, on the market in the battle field. Competition is the driving force of EvE. How can you have missed that?
In a competitive environment ,no-one wants to pick a fight they cannot win. That goes for most PvPers in EvE. Many will go a long way to avoid fighting in many situations by, for example, making safe spots, scouting and fitting cloaks. Others will fit a tank on their mining barge so they are not an easy target.
If total invulnerability was available, everyone would have to use it to gain an advantage and that would effectively kill EvE.

As an interesting side note: There is no universally accepted definition of terrorism; although one could define it as the destruction of utility services (Hospitals, power plants and so forth). In that sense, yes, we are terrorist. Which only makes what we do better. |
