Where to start? Buying a Heron to mine for starters. Note to self: bigger doesn't always mean better for particular role Only training skills when I needed to use a module for the first two weeks. Note to self: Things are (generally) there for a reason Taking my brand spanking new Vexor with 75mm railguns to PF-346 for some npcing to show off in front of some mates. Suffice to say some npcs went medievil on my hiney, but I narrowly escaped. And that just a couple of days before m0o moved in.
Yes, those were the days...

Don't bet on it! One thing about this game is that there's always going to be something to catch you out, if only because of the regular patches that come along and change things. I've been playing for almost 2 years now, and I'm pretty familiar with most aspects of Eve, yet I'm still capable of acting like a complete noob.
My most recent act of noobishness was not knowing that an Arbitrator is a drone carrier. You know, it is such an unpopular ship that I'd never really seen all that many of them around. I saw one, saw that it was some crappy cruiser and engaged it in my Wolf. As I was saying, "Ah right, it's a drone ship then!" I died, laughing at my stupidity.

Somehow I managed to fire a missile at the gate in the same second I clicked jump, so I hit the gate for xx damage and was somehow not aggressed Luck of a fool I guess. So I followed through the gate and as if that wasn't enough, I misclicked on the other side, scrambeled the gate and the guy escaped. Should have made a vid how not to pvp !

erm, well, my biggest mistake was creating a character and going "coo! caldari E-Warfare? I'll have some of that! it'll really help out jamming the guristas".
Took me about 3-4 months (training e-war skills all the time) of fighting gurista lvl2 and lvl3 agents in a blackbird (or two) to learn that at that time, electronic warfare did'nt effect the NPC rats *at all*.
what a muppet I was.

That is a good point, although I don't think yours is too bad as it can be taken to be ironic given your corp.
Some people saddle themselves with absolutely godawful names that you have to wonder what they were thinking.
Just for reference:
1. Pick something that at least vaguely fits with a sci-fi world
2. Pick something that people can more or less pronounce, even after several beers
3. Pick something that abbreviates, preferably to around 3 letters for easy typing in gang chat - I lucked out with 'Wan.'
4. Don't use aLtCaPs or numb3r5 instead of letters. It looks crap and people will think less of you.

When I were a youngun, we didn't have a chance to do silly things with BS, but later managed to muck it up anyhow.
Earliest thing I can remember is not understanding hybrid ammunition and thinking that using carbonized lead (projectile) was just being economical-minded.
That was when I switched to lasers. Maybe not the dumbest thing I ever did actually..
I remember also thinking that dual light pulses had a bad reputation and that my pg skills would eventually improve enough to use the next grade up.

I bought a brutix, corp mate bought a rax. We decided to have a PVP, we both shield tanked them :O
Erm, I was too poor to replace a Caracal I'd lost, bought an Osprey and kitted it out for PvP.
I kitted it out with medium smartbombs (spent all my isk on them...), you can guess where I'm going with this.
Had a m8 in an asteroid belt, thought it would be fun to SB him. Then I noticed he wasn't in the corp, just in gang.
That one hurt, I spent all my isk on that lol.
Probably the best decision I made was deciding to switch to training to Gallente ships on an impulse. I'd trained up to Caldari BC and all of a sudden stopped and switched to Gallente. After the missile nerf it seems I made a good choice :/

I tried doing a "hit and run" attack on a Moa in my Rupture but used torpedoes.
They were bugged then and could hit the person launching them. So here was me flying away from the Moa.
They fired into space infront of me and flew back towards the Moa, problem was, my Rupture was in the way, so I basically put myself in a pod with my own torps ---------

When I got my first geddon I joined the corp mining op. I had outfit it with 7 named mining lasers (excel) and a smartbomb for some silly reason.
Well about 1 hour into the op while switching I accidently hit f8. Fortunately at this time Concord didnt respond to in gang damage so there was no Condordoken!....however my corp mates were in tears cause I had roasted my 8 basic mining drones and about 20 harvester drones that were theirs.
Needless to say I was mining for a long time after that to buy back the damn harvesters for them.
Since that day I learned that only Noobs that like to lose ships and drones fit smartbombs in Empire space. |

I used the f11 map to find the system i had to goto by hovering over the systems, then i wrote down the sys , const and region names. I then warped to the gate, manually flew close, manually jumped manually repeated for every jump i made for the first 2 weeks in eve.

I'm still a newbie, but I'd have to say my dumbest mistake was going to low security space without first checking the map for destroyed ships/pods. Took losing an Hoarder with about 1M ISK worth of minerals on board to learn that habit

just after completing the tutorial I bought a rifter and a probe. The thing is I was kind of stumbling around in the blind and bought the probe for 205k in Amamake. I decide to go to Amamake and pick up my probe. When I jump in I notice some cans which I decide to go and inspect thinking that they might have something valuable in them. Then I notice someone who has a red over this name and a skull at 60 km range and I go thinking "oh dear me, a pirate". Unfortunaly the next thought was "oooh, he's at 60 km range, the max range anyone can hit you is 40 km". So I go happily towards the can while keeping an eye on the distance to the pirate. Well, at 48 km range my shield and armour turn mostly red and then a second later I find myself podsurfing .
Then two weeks later and some angels later I decide to take on a 3/10 complex in my a bit underequipped rifter (I had around 10k in gunnery and probably around 200k in support skills). All goes well at first and I manage to get a depradator to follow me. I'm taking his shields down faster than he can take mine. My phone then rings and I decide "well, he's going to be spacedust in one or two minutes anyway and there's noone else following me". I come back in after a minute to find that two depradators had just respawned 5 km from me and two secs later I'm podsurfing again.

In the first week, mined for a few hours then bought a cargo expander BPO, then sold them for 8k a pop. Bought a few frigate BPOs and sold them. By end of the week, lost my frist cruiser and was selling badgers. Oh my first week and the games first week matched. Had a badger II that week. Did some ninja mining to get the minerals. Standard stuff.

So there I am...
This was back when you could fit torpedos on just about anything that had a launcher point. I was in one of the many fledgling corps that popped up near Hulm and we were engaged in mining to build us Moa's and take over Eve.
I had just got the torp skill and was assigned to guard a mining op with my fancy new Rifter and was hot to pop a rat with my new shiny toy. It wasn't long until a rat shown itself and I locked and fired without any thought to how far the rat was from the mining ships.
We all know how cool the effect is when a torp hits the target and I marveled at the beauty of the expanding ring as it passed my ship. I also marveled at the sight of my corpmates floating in pods and all the hard mined Omber gone. I hit the rat when it was only 500 meters from most of my corp mates.
I will not go into the colorful language in the corp chat -or the lengthy questions about my parentage, social status, dining habits, sexual proclivity, or my abundant lack of education. Let us just say that it was direct and to the point.
I was out of the corp before I hit the station...

Edited by: Rebell on 13/12/2005 04:52:00 Back in beta when I first discovered EVE. I had a week of hell, I had 2 midterms, 2 assignments, and a term paper due all within a five day period, but I spent the weekend before all this playing EVE. I also had the flu that week :(
So not only did I cram all throughout the week to be able to get a passing grade is school, but I was also highly addicted to EVE and continued playing any chance I got and started writing my term paper only 6 hours before it was due.
Despite my schoolwork, in that week I went from Velator->Navitas->Imicus and by Sunday night I was ready to buy my first Tristan :D (This was when Tristans cost 550k).
On Monday morning I found that the Devs did a character wipe.
So not only did I sacrifice progress in personal life for progress in game life, but my progress in game life was nullified by a delete button :(

Who would have guessed cloaking would be a skill! and that to be useful covert ops you really need CO at 4 and cloaking at 4......5 days to go not that I am counting

Edited by: Pytria Le''Danness on 13/12/2005 07:07:27 While still in the n00b corp, a corpmate kept telling me how great agent rewards were in low sec. He even had a pretty secure route to an agent avoiding gate camps. After I got my first Thorax, I felt safe and strong and decided to try it out.
I arrived in the system without problems, and decided to have a look around the locale. At one belt I popped a few rats and went looking into the cans when some guy warped in, flashing red. But hey, he was far away, I had a lot of medium drones (4 or so :)), and he was in a frigate.
There can be little difference between Assault Frigate and Frigate, right?
Needless to say I went into armor real quick, but I was lucky as the guy ransomed me and gave me a discount due to my n00bness. In retrospect I should have had a chat with him, but I was shaking too much from adrenaline to think clearly.
Still flying that Thorax
Other things:

Those who where semi afk got a free clone jump.
Nowadays I get really angry if young ppl refuse to follow my advice. How times can change. :)

I had been playing about a month (still in starter corp) when someone asked me to show them around the game because they were really confused (this was in 2003).
Anyway, went across in new cruiser and went through things like how to fly/gate/mine etc.I went into station to get something. As I came out, my little friend announced he was being targetted. Lo and behold some frigate had him lit up,without thinking I let loose with everything I had. Except of course this was 1.0 space. A bit of space debris later and I was back in station. Thought "I'll have you, my son" and launched in my frigate. OFC still flagged so station blew me away. I feel we both learnt some important lessons that day - my little student never did contact me again :)

Ok here goes...
Mined myself into a dominix 3 times.
First time i gave all the byom minerals to a guy i hardly knew. He was all friendly saying 'sir' to me, then promptly proceeded to take off with my minerals.
Take two: Got my dom, got bored after about a month, gave it to a friend for safekeeping (why dunno). Returned after about a month, friend gone, dom gone.
Take three: Yarrr enemie pilot, non sanciotned, empire space, no insurance... nuff said (stopped mining thereafter).
Nother one... After taking a break, me and a friend decided to hit the game again and become the terror of EVE. No money, no ship etc. A friend lent me his kitted maller (which was a phat ship back then). I assumed it was still ok to attack non corp gangmembers. Decided to scare him by locking and firing. Gank fleet warps in...1less maller. But the story goes on! So i get another maller with lesser kit (insurance payout had to cover it). We camp the first 0.0 gate in alliance space. Along comes an alliance mammoth, waving at his 'friendly' alliance mates 'guarding' the gate. We lock him down, my friend start launching cruismissiles from his blackbird, i shout YARRR pay or die, guy is like: howm??, my friend keeps launching cruisemissiles, i'm like O_o, it's an indy ya know!? Guy goes splat, pod goes plat two (cruise splash back then). He drops a load full of mercoxit. We feast on the goodies (ahum) i take 2 units into my hold, my friend takes 3 units (yay). 10 seconds later an entire alliance gankfleet warps in, we spend the next couple of days running and hiding ^^. l33t! |

Unfortunately all locked on to me and killed me within 10 seconds. - Being terrified of below 0.5 space

My first day I asked in the noob corp channel "how do I mine?" and this guy said "did you do the turorial?"... I said no... then he said "The one thing I hate more then a noob is a lazy noob"... and I was laughed at by almost everybody in the channel .
A bit later, when I got my first megathron, I couldn't use large guns.. so I ran a full set of 250mm rails.. I thought I was the bomb.
My buddy Necrologic used to run 3 1mn ab's on his crow (pre-mwd/ab changes)... and whats worse is we thought it was cool.
All that being said, you have to keep in mind that this was over a year and a half ago (maybe more.. can't remember).

Oh gawd...lemme see, I...
- Mined with one Miner II into a Bestower for about 10 days thinking that's how it was done.
- Fitted a smartbomb to said Bestower (along with some nice alpha and beta cargo expanders someone had given me) and used that smartbomb to kill assailing rats in Pimebeka (.7 system). Got ganked by Concord after my smartbomb hit asteroids and someone mining next to me.
- Used to be outraged by ore thieves, especially when I got visited by one. I grew up and got a clue, though. This happened right after someone clued me in about jet-cans. Prior to that, as I said, I mined directly into a Bestower
- Was Caldari, but mined in an Omen. Didn't know about the Osprey and hated the look of Caldari ships.
- Finally learned about the Osprey and mined all the minerals I needed to build a Raven (with the exception of the zyd and mega)
- Joined a 0.0 corp and took said Raven into combat while barely able to fly it. Lost said Raven VERY quickly to two Gankageddons after I warped into a melee late. I didn't even really get a shot off before I was dead.
- Woke up one morning in my trusty crow, thinking I was in D4KU-5. Spied a noobcorpaltspy in a shuttle and I engaged him. It took a couple of shots from the gate guns before I realized I was in Hophib. Bye bye, Crow. Learned to never log int right after just waking up and before partaking of at least a sip of coffee.
- Saw I had message from an R&D agent saying they had a breakthrough...didn't really know what that meant, so I didn't rush to go see the agent. Lost out on an Improved Cloak II BPO.
- Bought an Iteron V BPO off escrow for 19m ISK thinking that was some sort of coup. Went nuts going after Coercer and Cormorant BPOs after Exodus was released thinking those were also extremely savvy moves. Moron.

-Fitted autocannons, railguns and artillery on my first thrasher. -fired at someone at a gate, in low sec, thinking I'd be able to tank the guns in my nice new cyclone. -Went mining in 0.0 without any kind of protection in my first cyclone, so I could insure it. -Fitted a shield booster and an AB to a rifter to help me tackle better, then felt cheesed off because I couldn't fit a scrambler. ---------- "EvE isn't a game, it's a lifestyle" Jaegerknack, 5punkorp

the most noobish thing i ever did was to rush through to battlecruisers as quickly as i could, sold everything i had and bought a prophecy.
At this point i had about 4 isk and Prophecy i couldn't afford to equip or insure.
As you might imagine, in my noobish glee i picked up the ship and took it for a spin. Sadly, I was so disgusted with the stupid fat prophecy's appearance autopilot flew me straight into a ganksquad.
At this point i had about 4 isk.

Wwaaaaaay back when, in the time kestrels could use torps and cruise missiles and stuff, On the day I collected my first thorax I went hunting in a 0.4 system with a corp mate, and got attacked by a guy in a kestrel (I just remembered the guy was called torpedo). anyway, not knowing what was going on, we both warped out. Noticed that not a lot of damage had actually happened (as in none) and warped back. A few minutes later the guy comes back in, and the guy goes after my corp mate. So, I sit and lock onto him, and just as me corp mate warps out a second time he fires at me and I open up, taking him to structure in two volleys. Anyway, he warps out before a third one can finnish him off, and I'm still in near perfect condition. At this point our corp support turns up, and we divide the gates and camp up. (remember this is 0.4). About 20 minutes later, luck would have it that he flew to my gate. I lock on and fire. I watch his ship explode and am quite satisfied. Only, I'm still taking damage, and my ship is 50% armour... now no armour. WTF?!? OH S**T. damn sentries...
So what did I do? Flew in my pod to a station, got myself another thorax and launched... D'OH. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

most noobish thing I did was shortly after the game launched.
Lord Zap and his buddies had been harrasing us near ammold and the surrounding area fairly reguarly...
So I got together around 20 - 30 players in noob ships and frigs fitted with a random assortment of guns and things that went boom..
we headed out about 4 jumps or so to Zaps known haunt and attempted to attack them... shortly to find out they had a thing called a cruiser and sentry guns were not keen on noob ships.
After about 10 minutes of chaos and a very messy gang chat we headed home in pods or clones pretty much slaugtered to a man..
Passed through the very site it all happened at a few days ago for the first time in over 2 years and it put a smile on my face remembering the chaos. Proving natural selection and Charles Darwin wrong since 1981.

Spending my entire wallet on trade goods and hauling them around 0.2 systems... how I never bumped into pirates I have no idea but then, this was when player numbers were yet to reach 10K on Sundays.

Spent 20 minutes trying to find out how to undock.
Bought a Kestrel and realised it had no guns.
Bought light fof missiles and realised they hit everything apart from what you were shooting at.
Bumped into an AFK Sinister cruiser at a JIP, panicked hit all my weapons and killed him. Then apologised because I didn't realise he was AKF.
Went into Catch in a Blackbird and realised I was the only one there apart from about three EVE Marshals.
Went on my first fleet maneuver with SPC and lost my cruiser to belt rats. On the way back through PF-346 in a pod I came nose to nose with a Sinister Corp Thorax. He probably thought I had already had a bad day and hessitated when two Rona cruisers warped in and saved my neck. Syndicate is a lonely place in a pod.

I'm only 6 months old so I'm still a noob. I guess I still have a few stupid moves in my bag.
I was in my first corp training skills like crazy to get ready for a corp frig tournament. I had trained to use nos and webbers in secret and I wanted to show off a bit before the tournament. A corp mate contacts me telling me about his new supah-doopah-pirate-frig. Someone had sold him a Daredevil for 1 mil (the guy didn't want it anymore). So he's there, telling me how happy he is about his new ship and all and I'm there thinking "Hey, we could both test our new ships/mods!" so I talk him into a small PvP match. I jump on him with autocannons blazing, nos nossing and webber webbing. Take out his shields. Take out the armor. Thinking "Alright, I've made my point. I better let him go". I start to stop my guns as I see his hull going down a bit too fast. Click, click, click... should be fine... where is that autocannon sound coming from?... BOOM! damn. I missed one of my guns and finished him off. I destroyed his 20 mil ship about 20 minutes after he got it because I was too excited about how fun PvP was and how kick ass my new mods were. I still feel bad about it.
Bought the multi-tasking skillbook.
Tried lvl 2 missions in a destroyer while having really poor skills.
Thought, "My tank can take it!"... famous last words.
Found the "Create Bookmark" button a month a go. _____________________________________________________________________________

* Upped charisma stats on char creation, cuz this game was ALL about trading, right? * Bought skillbooks for several millions, I would offcourse need them all right away. For some reason they did not appear in the Items hangar? Must have bought every single one 2 or 3 times. Spent several hours collecting them all over essence, while cursing my stupidity * I felt invincible in my Thorax * Mining was a great way to make isk. (ok i guess it is for some...) * Autopilot you say? Where??

Lost my first Thorax to the Oipo cruiser spawn because I used 150mm railguns and light drones. I think I may have shield tanked it too...
First ship I lost in PvP was a Celestis. I warpscrambled a stargate instead of the enemy frigate and the sentries took me down. In my defence, the tactic worked - the stargate didn't warp out.

pff, I was afk in hed-gp cause the autopilot was buggy back then. I had to go shopping, so I just activate autopilot and wanted to jump to Kari. Well the autopilot didnt jumped and I stood full 3h next to the Kari gate in Hed-Gp in a BB.
About 5 people called me gatehugger in local. One even shooted me into armor it seemed, but I was alive
Another story: I tried to attack a SPVD Apoc in my BB, but back in the days of JIP you got killed before your screen loaded most of the time. So my plan to jamm the apoc and then kill him in my Blackbird failed miserably.

Edited by: Toranya Faidutti on 21/03/2006 21:36:27 I'm glad this got bumped or I'd have missed it, and I got a bunch of much needed chuckles out of this thread.
I think the noobiest thing I did was this.
I was working from home for several weeks due to an illness and I had gotten into the habit of "double fisting" (working on my laptop, Eve-ing on my desktop).
I forgot that you could change your autopilot settings to "safer systems" when hauling minerals to market, and got an IM on my laptop from a client while travelling... my attention was only away from the desktop monitor for about 10 seconds, by which time Slurpentis pirates camping in Tama had my Itty to 1/2 hull. I froze up and they podded me, at which time I discovered my next noobish mistake - although I'd been upgrading my clone on a regular basis, I had neglected to relocate it away from my birth-system in Verge Vendor to someplace nearer where I was currently living, in The Citadel.
On the bright side, I haven't made either mistake since.

Went to A-1CON to a Serpentis base because I wanted to be friendly to all the corps and wanted to do some missions for them. Allmost got blown up by some ships (PCs) on the station. Luckily I got back with my ship (the next day) and even sold some amunition for insane profit (ok, it was small ammo and only about 100x the price). Going back I got frantic when I saw several ships on a gate. After a moment of chaos and nervousness I saw I was back to high-sec (0.5 or so).

I had a total noob moment last night.
I've hauled ass out of Pure Blind in order to raise my standings with Carthum Conglomerate, the idea being to get loads of BPCs post patch. After hammering various agents for a while, i got offered a storyline mission and flew out into deadspace. I was in a retribution and my frigate skills are good, so i figured it'd be a cakewalk. The mission was also in .8 space - this is noob city. I reasoned i could have done this mission in a t1 frigate if i so desired.
first wave spawns. i greet their poxy minmitar ships with a smile, and searing laser death.
second wave. they die quickly.
third wave.. eh?
3 ships, one of which is a rifter that dies instantly. The other 2 are fleet support ships - i'm webbed, scrambled and they actually appear to be healing each other. Worse than that - they're tanking me. So i'm drifting along at 21m/s, pıssiììng damage into one of the npc ships - keeping their traversal around 500 m/s.
It dawns on me: I'm being held hostage by NPCs. In highsec. In an assault frigate.
total noob moment.
no skills, just luck.

Newb huh..?
Does beta count? I remeber mining ARK, in an .04 system (Isie/lonetrek) in my bantam, a wopping 6 units per, before my cargo hold filled up and i had to dock.
Somewhere around 24 of these "cycles" later I had enough for a refine, which i did and sold my Zyd to what I thought was the npc market for...1.024 per unit. (zyd used to be 1024/pu back in those days.)
Needless to say I was very put out and vowed not to click anything i hadn't read COMPLETELY.
Ever wonder where that price warning pop up when you go to buy/sell stupidly came from?? Newbes like me...

I was flying lvl1-2 agent missions in a velator and remember onetime it involved destroying some huge "space telescope". It took me 40 minutes of shooting to take it down. After that I went to same agent for new mission. He gave me the SAME mission again and after cursing a little I did it again. When the agent gave me this same mission for the FOURTH time I asked someone in local wtf is wrong with my agent and found out about how petitions work.

Although in beta I did shoot at stargate in 1.0 to see if I could destroy it
One time i decided that concord should feel the wrath of my mighty thorax. (before battleships and tech 2 when tier 2+ cruisers were uber) I lasted through 3 waves before the 4th finaly took me down. I killed the original 3 and 5-6 more warped in and it just kept getting worse each new wave. I'm honestly amased i managed to even last that long. Looking back on it i do feel pretty nubish for feeling invincible with low skills in a tech 1 cruiser. At the time though i actualy was kind of a bad ass compared to the average beta player. They're still finding bits of my frozen corpse in luminaire to this day. I also remember being amased by my friends MWD. It was the first one my corp had seen. He had been secretly training for it. We just see him flipping out in corp chat one day and naturaly we were curious what was up. He fitted a bunch of overdrives and stuff like that and his MWD and whizzed by our mining op at like warp 9. The whole corp was drooling. I also remember totaly flipping out the first time i encountered warp scramblers and couldnt figure out what was going on.

Apart from shooting that deserted vessel by a station in 0.4:
Traveling through lo-sec with this important storyline-tourist on board with not checking the map for destroyed things while relaying on the autopilot with my shiny new Thrasher while having this said ship equipped with shiny new expensive items stuffed with shiny new expensive loot while reading stupid chats while being drunk.
And as i finally stumbled across that camped gate - i just literally sat and watched. Boom! there goes my Thrasher, Boom! there goes my Pod and, of course! Boom, there go my 3 Imps.

These stories are HILARIOUS!
I just had to add a couple of my own.
During the first set of storyline missions you get as a noob, I was sent to a different system. The kill target was not at the gate, nor any of the belts (which I flew through 2 or 3 times), and I didn't know how to find it. I quit the mission, and it wasn't until like a week later that I found out about how the links worked in the Agent Mission section of People & Places, or the Journal.
In the Never Fit a Ship While Angry category, I had just lost a Rupture to a player rat, and immediately bought another. I left the station in it, having forgotten to insure it or put drones in the drone bay. First belt I warped to had a warp-scrambling NPC frig in it, and I spent the next 5 minutes watching it slowly kill my brand-new, uninsured ship since I had no drones, and couldn't hit it with 425s.
Flew through several low-sec systems in a hauler carrying about 5M in mins, on autopilot, while AFK. Came back to the computer to see myself in station, in a new clone. Learned about the "Show ships destroyed" function after that one...
And yes, I too mined. Never again!

Ok lets see...
I rememeber the first time I try'd to go into 0.0. I think I went into ec-p8r though I'm not sure. It was 30 some jumps from where I was living, all the way with no mwd (hadn't trained the skills)
Getting there, I found some dark o and thought this was heaven. Planned to ninja mine it then head into empire and refine it. But there was a gate camp, but being smart thought there was no way they could lock me if I warped to the gate at 60km... Missing 1 rifter, 2 units of dark o.
The next time I went all the way down into the deep south. Found a player controlled station owned by the curse allience, and I could even dock there. I ninja mined 2 whole refines of ark, and was the happyest person you could ever see. Untill I noticed it didn't have a refinery...

I killed a hauler in 1.0 space on my 2nd day afk mining in a belt (2003). I didn't start training skills for about a week into the game, untill someone told me to. I started mining and mining some more. First PvP in rax with 5 stabs, one volley of torps owned me. Was the only person in TEC not to kill Vampire Blade once . Got close though.

So there I am...
A month or so after the retail release and I joined a corp as soon as I could. The whole corp was mining for omber in a system near Hulm and we chatted about everyone was going to be in Moa's in no time flat, how we were going to do all sorts of stuff.
I had just got the torpedo skills and, at the time, you could fit a torp' in just about any missile or rocket launcher. Me and my rifter were 'studs!'
Suddenly an NPC rat spawns and I let everyone know that I'm going to take it out with a torpedo. I didn't pay much attention to how far away the 2k rat was and I let the torp fly.
This was a time when "splash" damage was possible. You were supposed to make sure of your targets before you fired, but I was hot for some cool torp effects to show off to my corpmates. WHAM! The rat is gone, but then so are all the ore jet cans and a couple of my corp mates are in pods...?
The splash damage vaporized all the omber, and a couple of probes and rifters in the process. Then I looked in the chat window, where I was being warned not to fire, 'cause of splash damage to the cans...'
I wasn't even back to the station and I was out of the corp...
Something has gone terribly wrong |

last week i was travelling through Dudreda and in the gate my overview started to glow in red. Wow!! one vindicator and one machariel gankin' a raven!. (i had never seen these faction bs before) and instead of jumpin' away fast i stayed there enjoying the sight. When i finally jumped the vindicator and the machariel ripped off the raven and jumped towards me. i had no time to warp to next gate before they lock and scramble me.

My worst was NPC'ing in a 0.8 system with my megathron ( which was horrible equiped and shield tanked but it was in a time armor tanking didn't exist ) I had to go afk for a little while so I let my hardners and shield booster run and went afk, the afk took longer then expected so 2 tiny rats ( like 8k bounty rats ) spent 15 minutes or more taking down my uninsured megathron... it hurt, spent all my cash on it and a c5l large shield booster ( was like 25mil back then ) ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

I found out I could fit a battleship size AB on my Cyclone - almost 3000 m/s baby! So I squeezed a Quad Lif fueled booster in, undocked, kicked in the AB ("speed set to 2942 m/s") and watched it pick up speed: 101 m/s, 102 m/s, 103 m/s, 104 ... I learned from this that fitting the wrong size AB will result in very sub-par acceleration (although I'm sure I would have reached 2942 m/s eventually :) )

Hehe ... did exactly the same thing myself, and that wasn't too long ago either. 1 shield booster is good, therefore 2 shield boosters must be better, and 3!!, I'll be like a roaming demi-god. At least thats what I thought until my cap drained in 5 secs flat and I was left just sitting there like a lemon not able to do anything .
Although my favourite is when I after reaching the last zone of a deadspace complex I sat there for 10 mins pounding the overseer's lock box with my missiles and rails wondering why I couldn't destroy it. Didn't realise the idea was to loot it. Well it was red after all .... red == kill .

When I first started, I thought I could make good money hauling, buying and selling trade goods. So I went out, bought an Iteron I, and then filled the hold with garbage and dirt since I'd calculated that had the highest buying price-selling price ratio. After buying about half a million ISK of garbage and dirt, hauling it 20 jumps, and selling it, I came out with a grand profit of maybe 100k.
Kind of gave up on my dirt/garbage transporting scheme after that. ______________________________________________

After 2 weeks of hard work another noob and I were able to buy our first cruisers (omens). We thought we had hit the big time and took them out for a test ride hunting in the belts in a .9 sec system. We ran across a missile spamming frigate and my wing mate activated a smart bomb to try and defend against the missile. It hit me of course and Concord proceeded to spank his arse. Distraught but thinking fast I quickly tell him to eject and when he does I boarded his omen thinking that would stop concord killing it. Concord didnt care and finished killing the ship.
Upon reboarding my own omen I find myself getting ganked by Concord for some reason. In the end there were just two noob eggs sitting in the belt surrounded by the whole damn Concord fleet and wondering WTF just happened. No one can hear you scream in space, so STFU and die already. |

Edited by: Praxsis on 23/03/2006 20:29:59 I was ratting in 0.3 in my Ferox a day after I joined Novus - I've cleaned out the belt and I'm looting the cans, when a Merlin warps in. It sits at 0m/s for a minute or so whilst I move between cans - then he locks me up. I check the guy's info again, and yep - it's definately a week old PC, and it's an ordinary Merlin, not an Assault Frig.
He fires at me with everything he's got. Barely scratches the paint. I return fire (a n00b setup of rails) and his shields are gone and I'm into his armour in a single volley. He panics and runs like a burning chimp. I let him warp out (no scrambler anyways). He convos me. "You lied. You've been playing longer than a day."
It takes me a few seconds to realise he warped in, read the top line of my Employment History, and thought I was a day old n00b. I convo back with advice on how to work out a player's age - even sent him 100k to pay for repairs and to further his (likely doomed) career in piracy.

didn't have a clue about petitions either, not that I would have gotten my stuff back.
----- my playstyle is anti-pirate. what does this mean? it means you'll never catch me in a valuable ship and/or setup where it can be compromised. go on, trade your ammo for the scraps you'll get. |

I knew I would be able to fly an industrial pretty soon, so I put up a region-wide buy order for a reaper (Minmatar) at 300k. To my pleseant surprise, someone filled it! Unfortunately.... it was left at a station in 0.3 space.
I'd already been killed once in my frigate last night, and I knew that flying through lowsec with an indie was certain death (I can't even use MWDs yet). I finally realized my only choice was to throw it in my probe (frigate), and then unpack it once I got back to high security.
I flew all the way out to pick it up, and then tried to put it in my cargo hold:
