I am thinking of buying a Minmatar charater who is HAC ready for PvP. Is is worth looking for a different race or are the HAC's and Recon ships for Minmatar worth using?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Vagabond = slow, medicore DPS, below average tanking ability for a HAC
Muninn = only useful with artillery, artillery sucks, bad HAC
I'd go for an Amarr HAC character. Their HACs rock.

it's amazing how one person fails to grasp the theme of replies in this thread. There is a very good reason why vagabonds cost 160m+, and it's not because they suck

Exactly. If they convince you they suck, you won't buy them and demand goes down.
In the words of my 28m SP pvp friend - "The Vagabond is the closest thing to an invincible hit and run ship I've ever seen."
In conclusion - Minmatar HACS do NOT suck. All you have to do is look at the stats and try flying one and you'll see they don't.

The best thing about the vaga is that you don't even need to fit stabs.

Its good for 2 things: Killing NPCers in the south and being a heavy tackler, and I'd rather use a stabber for the 2nd one.
Vs any close range BS, you either die or if you are lucky he has no web or heavy nos so you warp out. Vs long range BS you will most likely win, but hell you would win in a t1 cruiser in that situation.
Its fun to fly cause its like flying a super inty, but that doesn't mean its as uber as everyone thinks it is.
I'd still much rather have caldari cruiser 5 than minmatar cruiser 5 in any situation. Eagle is vastly superior than the muninn at the only thing the muninn does better than the vaga, sniping. And the Cerb is just plain uber.

Come on Let's say it's a mod you have to think very hard (i mean, very very hard) before fitting it on a close range setup. I hope I didn't give to much away, people might *gasp* be creative and start thinking and fitting it... Eh. You know, that very specialized mod that non-specific setups have no problem to defeat, that nobody ever bother fitting since it's a lot of sacrifices for little to no reward, in so few circumstances...

im surprised that so many people would rather use artillery on a munin. Yes its made for use with thsoe guns, but just like a tempest it can b very effective with autcannons. pre-rmr I got my munin with 6500 armor with the lowest resistence being 50% expolive to armor. Everything else was well above 60%.
The main argument going around is its no good in solo combat. Well news flash people, not all combat is one on one. Yes its not the greatest 1 on 1 ship but in small engagments it can sit there and take a beating for several minutes. In the mean time you can nos it you can shoot it, but its still going to fire back and believe me, its going to hurt alot.
Anyone who says "it sucks dont buy it" is simlpy not creative enough to find a way to make a low prices HAC work just as good as an the high priced ones.

amazing how much people just say "it sux" without mentioning why. Also strange that 90% of the people think they sux O_o
They are just as overpriced as all HAC true, they have wierd slot layouts, agree. But with an creative mind you can make it quite usefull. And I love to fly my Muninn, though not in PvP as it's way overpriced =/
People should stop whining, and stop claiming all amarrian ships are best (every one claims apoc is the best bs, zealot the best hac etc). Just give the ships a chanse =/

The vagabond is the ultimate solo hunter ship. Its not the most powerful hac in a straight up fight, but it packs a really big punch for basically being a tackler.
The munin is decent fleet support (but not as good as an eagle).

Buying a character to fly Minmatar HAC? TBH, the HAC is about the only ship Minmatar compete with. Unfortunately HAC prices are so hig as to render them show pieces, hardly to be used in combat. I wouldn't make that purchase.

The best thing about the vaga is that you don't even need to fit stabs.
That's the only good thing tho. Everything else about it sucks.
oh no!!!, now empire miners are going to buy vagabond instead of transport ship

Originally by: Shamis Orzoz The vagabond is the ultimate solo hunter ship. Its not the most powerful hac in a straight up fight, but it packs a really big punch for basically being a tackler.
I used to think this way, and I still agree. However, saying "its the ultimate solo hunter ship" is really a meaningless line. Like I said, its great for hunting NPCers in the south, which makes it a great solo ship, but then again anything can kill NPCers in the south. The only thing that makes it the "ultimate solo hunter ship" is its ability to usually pick and choose your fights sticking to ones you win, as well as its ability to outmanuever people when they blob you.
However where the vaga really shines is not as a solo ship (unless you are killing NPCers). Solo, you really won't get all that many kills, cruisers and maybe some indies and the occasional retard traveling around in a long range bs with no instas or stabs. No, where the vaga really shines is in a frig gang. It is fast enough entering warp (esp with a named/faction nano) to keep up with AFs, and it brings firepower and defense to any fight. It allows a small frig gang to keep fighting even against a cruise raven w/ target painters, or an ishtar w/ light/med drones, for example.
Originally by: Raid im surprised that so many people would rather use artillery on a munin.
A muninn with autos is just a ****ty version of a vaga with autos, hence why no one uses an automuninn for pvp. A vaga is a superior auto platform in every possible way. A muninn on the other hand is not only the best, but the ONLY good 720 II platform in the game, whereas a vaga sucks with 720 IIs. Hence why arty = muninn, autos = vaga.

I'd fly an arty muninn in a gang. Or NPC'ing. Aside from that I don't see it doing a lot the vaga doesn't do better.
Arty Muninn does insane damage with a 720 II rack, and I just GOTTA see it with t2 ammo (either one, insane range or good damage). Enjoy a 15x damage mod firing every <7s with either 100km optimal or crazy damage =)

425's on a munin work just fine. Problem with this guy is he had no tank. That vexor was stronger than he was, no way he was going to survive a 2 on 1 with that **** tank. If he put a 1600 plate and instead of heavy launchers use assault launchers, he would rip those two up.

425mm autos on anything suck. well, it's not that they suck, it's more that 220mms do exactly the same damage over time for far lower fitting reqs and better tracking.

Munin = tracking bonus. IIRC, 425's also do about 5% more DoT than 220's, so, because of the tracking bonus, 425's are actually *useful* on the munin. -Wrayeth

well, you're partially right :). 425mm autos do more damage, but also have to reload twice as often as 220mms. As the graph takes this into account, they come out doing the exact same dot.

425's need a slower ROF and more damage, if you use 3 gyros they fire almost as fast as 220's and have to reload way to much, and since they are harder to fit I never use them.

Hehehe Minmatar are funny =D
Notice a pattern =) 200mm, 425mm, 800mm all owned by smaller sibling, 250mm, 650mm, 1200mm all owned by big brother.
Cheers CCP, at least when messed up, it is beautifully so =) (not complaining - I love minnie)

There is a 5% increase in the 425s over the 220s. I believe that chart is considering reload time. Thtas not too much of a factor. Still, thats a lot of MW for 5%, a gyro can do MUCH better for MUCH less.
I do fly an automunnin. Its got more armor and more MW than vagabond so it armor tanks better. Its a bit slower, but I'm not in much of a rush. The farther away you start the more you might prefer the Vagabond. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Um, LOL @ this post. Reloading isnt a factor? It is if you plan on fighting for more than 40-50 seconds. And who cares that a muninn "armor tanks better" than a vaga? Who in their right mind armor tanks a vaga anyways? Automuninn vs autovaga, autovaga wins hands down.

Actually 1vs1 vaga vs muninn I would go with the muninn (lol, best use for the muninn =D). Vaga can choose range, but Muninn likes the same + has better tracking (orbiting wouldn't help the vaga). Muninn would just shield tank and gyro lows, wtfpwn the vaga (though vaga could easily get away).
Little off topic, I know that's not what you meant, but I thought it was funny =)
And I think he meant that 5% is not much of a factor, not that reloading isn't much of a factor. Maybe I'm reading it wrong though.

That chart was extrapolated out to some enormous amount of time such that the reloading is practically part of the ROF. That is innacurate. 220 wont catch up to the 425 DOT with a single reload.
How is a Vagabond supposed to survive shield tanking without any shield bonus? Shields have never been as efficient as Armor. Sure with the extra mid I'd probably think about shield tank. Then slap a few extra Gyros in low. but still.
Its faster, lighter, and has smaller sig but it gives up HP and damage. Does that win you a fight? It certainly wont beat a Muninn. Perhaps there is some angle I am not considering? ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

The vagabond can sit outside the muninn's range and still hit it due to the falloff bonus.

There is no drop dead range on guns, its gradual. With 220 vaga could sit where? 13800 which is optimal + falloff, but Muninn optimal + falloff is 10700, and muninn has extra gun and tracking bonus, both things which will increase damage. (Edit: at that range tracking probably wont matter) Muninn has more HP and resist for its type of tanking than vaga has for its, and it has more efficient HP repair and more cap to boot.
