Why do you think that a "supported client" would change something? CCP does not even respond to the threads where user with "supported clients" are complaining about the problems with the current patch.
I also don't think they feel threatened when 0.1% of the player base cancels their subscriptions.
The SISI version looks good, let's hope we get another patch and hopefully some CCP feedback during the next downtime. |

Confirmed.
But because CCP does not support linux we should brace ourselves to install some random Windows (and we all have something like that laying around - be honest). But meh. That's what I pay three Accs for? Not one guy smart enough to test this **** thoroughly before it deploys? How hard can it be to fire up a wine and just test a quite hard shift in the graphics engine like that? And since even Windows users are experiencing the same problem: They will not give a rat's arse. For solutions turn to WineHQ.
But keep on complaining - maybe we'll get a "supported client" - again. If they believe they'll lose to much subscriptions.
o7 I think this comment pretty much explains why we don't have our own client. I for one will not be installing any Windows OS. It's bad enough we have to use wine. Agreed. If a fix does not come out for this I will be unsubbing all of my accounts.
second that. I lost a 1.5b loki earlier due to this junk. Its my fault for taking it out but the game play sucks |

This is some threadnaught CCP made here
For people that don't know, apparently this also broke the OS X client. And there will not be "official Linux" client again, since no one used it last time. And no one used it last time, because it was just outdated wine (like on Mac). So unless you want CCP to somehow make OpenGL client, there will never be "official Linux" client again.
Anyway, this bug will get fixed Soon.

Same issue here as well, Ubuntu 12.04/Wine 1.7.11, NVIDIA graphics.
Judging by this thread it is already well established that there is a problem, but I figured that I should add my name to the list anyways. Maybe the length of this thread will help remind CCP that us Linux users do still exist out there.

Just another Fedora user affected and guess doesn't make much sense to post another specification. I think this issue shows quite clearly why multi-platform projects are having clear benefits as an issue on one system might occur rarely or hidden on another. Windows users then wondering for random crashs. There are quite some linux users in this thread... another three acounts here and CCP is seriously not able to put at least a single guy out there having a wine running with at least the latest specifications and giving it before release a shoot? I can understand if there are issue that occur somewhere hidden, but in the login screen and all over disco lights after that shall be quite easy to catch. If we are not getting a native client, then please give us at least some most basic support... |

You cannot expect them to test every patch in Wine. You can't even expect to even be able to run the game in Wine.
The fact that devs actually made a Linux forum and are watching it tells a lot about CCP. Not a lot of devs do this.

I have yet to see a single post by CCP, acknowledging the issue at hand. So at this point you can't really say they're monitoring this forum. There haven't been a great many posts by CCP on here anyways. And why is it that they can't have a single machine running Wine just to test if the new build works at all? Why is that so impossible? It's true that Linux users aren't a vast majority but we're paying customers and we expect to fly internet spaceships just like everyone else. |

Be Patient ! Indeed.
In fact, CCP doesn't support GNU/Linux, but, they accept their money, the money of the gamers who prefer GNU/Linux and don't want to pay for an archaic operating system. I play Eve on a GNU/Linux Machine, and I just have those Operating System. CCP do some tests before introducing a patch. And they don't care about GNU/Linux users, but, they accept the price we put in the game. Furthermore, this bug impact some Windows & Mac users.
Yes, it's a game, but it's a lot of money by the world. So CCP don't have to play with our money.
If I pay 2 days late, I have 2 days without access to the Eve World. But, if they inject a patch that is not functionning, and make my game unreachable, YOU say : "be patient"... No, no, no. If they make my game unreachable, they must compensate for the days I can't connect, or play correctly (I say play correctly, but here, I can't play anymore).
Please, Psychedemic, pay attention about the word you use. Yes, I will wait for a patch, and I hope they will fix the issue rapidely. But I don't want to be patient, I pay, I would receive what I pay for.
If you say : "OMG, it's just for GNU/Linux users", I would remind you that Mac and some Windows users have the same problem.
I can accept that a mistake is made, not that one mocks me, by the fact "just be patient".
Best regards

They have been very linux-friendly in the recent past considering they don't officially support it. That's all I'm saying.
If CCP wasn't doing things to help Wine users, you would most likely not be able to play the game at all.
My point is, your argument Quote:we're paying customers and we expect to fly internet spaceships just like everyone else. is invalid, as it's not officially supported. You're paying for software made for Windows and OS X. |

Not at all. Once, there was Linux Support: http://www.linuxgames.com/archives/11565 I'm new, but some friends are playing since the good old linux days. They have invested time and money, because the game was running on linux. So, it is not completley correct. If you remove a complete platform from your support-matrix, you would make the customers angry. So they decieded to offer alternatives: Run through wine. I would consider this as supported ( see the linked, official, mail from Arend St++hrmann. |

The point is still invalid. I know, I know, I get your point here too. But still, your current monthly payments do not include official support for linux, so do not expect CCP to change their code in anyway just so it would work with wine. They will fix the issue that is causing windows-clients to not work properly, by testing it on windows only. |
