This was the first compliant I ever had about EVE.
That was nearly 4 years ago.
I guess the answer is NO...
Only time you fly up or down is when you warp to a gate in that direction...

Just show's how uninformed some people are... nothing personal.
I fly in whatever direction is needed... a lot of people are accustomed to left and right, so up and down throw them off a bit. Also, appearing at different angles to another ship aid's in combat to some extent, depending on what you're doing.

If Einsteins right, If you laser spot straight ahead of yourself in space the tactical weapon will blow the back of your head off.

Well, think about it... our solar system is also basically flat. I'm not sure that every solar system in the universe would form the same way, as in the EVE universe, but it does make sense. You CAN fly up and down, there's just not usually much to visit, which I guess is your complaint :-P

Short Answer : Galaxtic Spin
Long Simplified Answer: Big Bang go BOOM. Things go spinning into space. Things have inertia so they keep spinning. Even big things like galaxies. In fact bigger things have more inertia and spin longer. Galaxies tend to "lie flat" because of the outward force applied by the spin opposing the inward force of the sun's gravity. As galaxies lose inertia, and that takes a seriously long time, they get less and less flat. Things begin to wander and get less flat.
Very simplified. Not fact, just one of the many theories, but generally accepted. And like most proposed theories on the formation of "great big crap" it assumes a sort of err, closed environment. Galaxies may get less flat when they bump into other galaxies or blackholes or developer's egos.

Space it flat because Chuck Norris got angry one day because he stumbled in it; and then decided to trample it so it wouldn't happen again. ;)

Assuming the laws of physics are consistent across the universe, most solar systems should end up with the planets all on a single plane. The exception is captured planets (planets thrown out of orbit of their orginal stars and grabbed by another, like pluto). ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |
