I think it would be cool if eve supported the Logitech G15 LCD screen.
It could show like:
-what skill your training and how much time is left
-money
-latest transactions
-shield, armor, and structure dmg in percents
-waypoints infos
-how full your cargo space is
-mission info
Thoughs are my ideas on what it can show.

I think its a great idea, being the owner of a G15 myself, and I know 2 other EVE players who have G15 and would love intergrated support. Even just the ability to show the total remaining shield, armor and capacitor would be great. Or it could show your current skill in training and wallet, which would be amazing.

seeing how i'm geeky enough to have one as well (Cmon, it looks nice, plays nice, and the lcd screen lets you see the title of the p0rn movie yer watching..... )

Couldn't CCP just open up the client a bit... maybe put some export ability into the running game stats. That way if none of the devs wanted to do it... someone else could. And none of the export data would be against the EULA of having something that gives a player a leg up on others, as the player of the game already has that data.

Rather than supporting one piece of hardware, a small SDK that opened up some data would be more universally useful.
Plugins could easily be written then for the G15, or for those small independent LCD screens that some people use, or even for the upcoming Optimus OLED keyboards, or for any other fancy display hardware that comes along in the future.

I have a G15 and I have to admit I love it. As of now, WoW and CoH/V are two games that I've played in the past that have support for it. Generally for EVE I use the clock or fraps...

Im using one too,the G15. and its a great keyboard, and i would love to se it be done so we can use the LCD display on EVE. Im norwegian but it did not bother me that i dont have the scandinavian letter µ,°,s .

Afaik the game don't make info show up on the screen, but the keyboard driver gets info from the game and puts it on the screen.
If this would not be the case all the games that support it must have been updated when the keyboard came out, doesn't sound very logical to me. 
So I guess you'd better spamn Logitech.

Sorry to bump this thread that is on the second page but I've been messing about with the LCD screen on the G15 for a while. I saw this thread and started to make a template for an Eve version. At the moment I have no idea where to look for the information you ask for in the eve program, but if you download LCDstudio from here-

...you can make your own LCD apps for other aspects of your system and try to make a suitable layout for Eve should the developers ever make the location of the data needed to make this work public. At the moment I quickly threw this together-
... I know it's small but I can't operate Paint to make it bigger at this time of the night without coffee .
With the program you can also make multiple pages to display. This might be required if support is ever added in because as you can see the information is cramped and limited.I will have another go at making a layout that is less cramped over more pages.
P.S If linking 3rd party Apps is against the forum rules please tell me and I will delete this post.

there is a tool to get TS infos on the G15 Display .. so at least it is showing something usefull ...
dont think CCP would go into any trouble just for a few 100 G15 user ...
and tho i also think a API Interface would be nice .. it also opens a lot of backdoors for .. e.g. Macrominer and things ... so its not a simple solution ...

Think outside the box then guys - it limits what info you have but evemon can already give you time left on skill, next skill to try, etc. At least that gives you something - and it's open source so you can add the extra functionality easilly.
I have no idea what you have in windows with a G15 as I use Linux (Ubuntu Dapper) with my G15, but if its anything like Linux it should be very easy to do it. With what I have installed right now, literally all that I have to do to get something to display (as text) on the LCD is:
$echo "TM \"Hello World\"" > /var/run/g15lcd
I spent the first couple of days I had with the keyboard seeing what I could output to it. /dev/urandom was cool
I ended just outputting some random stats to it like date/time, uptime, cpu load/etc.
If Logitech has an API thats as easy to use, I'd imagine that EVEMon could have support for it with very few lines of code, though I can't really comment as I'm not familiar with either the Logitech Windows API or the source for EVEMon. Also, its likely that you won't see any EVEMon suppport until someone on their dev team has a G15 (or someone with a G15 uploads a patch).

Actually, now that I got the keyboard, I am not in need of the LCD support.
I rather see hotkeys for my drones.
G keys are set to high slot, medslot and lowslot.. so I am quite fast cliking here.. It makes my drones faster as I got my mouse there - but hey, there are those drone hotkeys?

I have had a G15 keyboard for a few months now and have really only found one game where the LCD screen is "useful" and that is BF2142. the 3rd party app for that game that reads all your sever stats right on the screen is great.
That being said, it seems that most games and MMO games for sure, dont really work well with the LCD. This game has SO much info I really dont know what you could put on there as thumbnail data. Heck they have support for it in WoW but its bearly useful. Ok it tells you your stats and all that, guess that is not bad.

IT IS SUPPORTED!
Thru Evemon. You can have it cycle characters training(if you have multiple accounts) and it gives youa percentage of training completed and also the time until skill completion.
Get Evemon, works great.

Cant see the need myself,and yes i have one.
For games liek BF2 etc its great,but eve doesnt really require that much on demand info. Its just ppl being lazy :p
And beside, the most important G15 Eve related plugin is Teamspeak :)

/signed big style, although i dont own one myself, my parents are currently holidaying in america (im in the uk) and have got me one, one week and ill have it, cant wait!!
I think things like shield/armour structire hitpoints (as numbers) would be better to go along with the visual display of the core (with the 3 arcs of red and white) and maybe something like to show those in your particular squad in the fleet/gang so we dont have to have that window open and can have a clearer overview
what also appeals to me is the ice harvestor and strip miner timers, its simple things like that that improve the game slightly |

Although the G15 is a pretty good keyboard, sadly its made by logitec and logitec tho large and popular has a woeful track record for drivers and support. Because they didn't even support 64bit windows they are now on my BLACK LIST. Logitec realy arn't a company worthy of praise.
Anyway I will however "/sign" for the ability to have real time data export via modules so that any display device or whatever can give the info we all like to have.

its good to use it for voice comms, to keep track of who is in channel/person talking etc etc
whilst the features mentioned in the first page are ok, what about something which did more, your HP, you can see, your cargo you need to check, maybe X/400m3, maybe track the hp of your drones, ratehr than having the otehrsized drone window open, maybe cap usage per second.
but youve got to go careful, that the G15 makes it easier to play, whilst not giving an advantage to G15 players

All it would take would be allowing the game to export shields/armor/hull as well as time to completion and the ISK that you have. Can't really program any macros with that little info.

Yes some equipment works, not fully but works. Thats what annoys me with them, Your MX1000, have you got the logitech mouse software working with it?
Anyway allot of stuff still doesn't work, check webcams and such.

Well when i got MX1000 (1.8 year ago) it didnt, but some of latest version logitech SW started working under w2003 64b finaly.
And i had more problem bwcause of 2003 then 64b system (damn stupid instalators detecting windows version)

Hey Space Cowboys and Cowgals,
I have written a 'basic' G15 LCD Eve skills countdown timer using the new EVE API data. I used vb.net 2005 and include two links below, the installer (for those that don't wish to know anything about the source code) and the source code (for those that do and fear I may have put 'phishing' code in it ;)
Installer v0.1
vb.NET Source Code v0.1: (feel free to add new functionality!)
I have only tested it on my PC, I believe it will only work providing you are running the 'Logitech LCD Manager' which takes care of providing support for the G15 LCD and it will install itself using the name 'G15 EVE Info'
...I did this for my benefit, not particularly as a releasable application, whilst I would appreciate feedback on any programming practices I have used that are horrific, I will not respond to anyone flaming me for 'n00bishness' !

PS. It currently only supports 4 simultaneous character training schedules (the screen isn't big enough for any more, and I haven't put my mind to getting anything to scroll as yet!)

Ok, installed it. I see the G15 EVE Info window. I have the LCD manager running and it has the G15 EVE info ticked in the LCD config.
However I have no bloody idea how to add characters to it. Does it autodetect? Or I have to add them manually? If so how do I get the UserID and the apiKey?
EDIT: ok I have found the userID, the char ID, still no idea how to get the apiKey and also the program doesn't seem to save settings (ie, pressing Save Settings and then closing the window results in an empty list the next time I open it)

G15 support is pointless, what use is a little LCD screen going to be compared to the eve HUD, on a side note, the macros are great for:
Opening the buttons on the left without using up keyboard keys.
Storing Alt+0179 (¦)
Launching multiple F keys at once or in succesion
Setting up so that it presses F1-8 after the full firing and reload cycle so that you can go afk while shooting a building.

You can, you aren't allowed to have EVE tell it that your guns/launchers have reloaded but adding a delay to press the F keys after a certain amount of time (corresponding to your firing and reload time) isn't in breech.

G15 is great keyboard, made for gamers, and not for desktop use, therefor i think support should be added for it, sure it takes up some time... but i think when the basics are there its no more then a day's work for CCP.
I even know MMO's i played (like Vanguard) That have a UI especially for the G15.
Not saying its a must ! But it would be a handy feature that would enhance my gameplay. |

EveMon displays skill training information for your characters (cycling through them) which I find very handy.

Thats really short-sighted, because its like with doping: If you allow someone have an advantage because he use certain hard- or software (have you seen the dimension of WoW Addons? if EVE only gets half as bad as that **** you can have my stuff) everybody has to, to stay compedative.

The G15 is brilliant, I use the screen for the time and evemon and teamspeak and any game that has an app.
Even though evemon has skill training I don't really use it because well it's just a count down. I wouldn't like to see a count down in the eve app but I would like the whole screen to flash or just change to skill finished on X character. Actually if EVemon could do this it would be great. ie. it's running in the background but when a skill finishes it forces itself to be displayed.

Woot, just got a new laptop that has the lcd display on it.
The system name you are in, and local count would be nice to see eh? Also, since the combat logs report to a file, couldn't you route the log file into the lcd? Actually, couldn't you do that with any log info?
Additionally, it would be straight awesome to have fleet broadcasts blinking on the lcd window.....man....talk about nice.

Although having support for the G15 would be nice (I have one, its great etc etc), currently theres a gadget for windows vista that does some of the things people are wanting in this thread. It list you ISK amount, the name of the skill your training and the time it has left, your character name and if you click on it, it pops open and shows what corp your in/what race you are etc.

I already use the "G" keys for spread or alpha strikes while ratting out in 0.0 and for Drone Recalls, Drone Attacks, etc.
I got to say for me it really eases my eyes just hitting a single key. Theres no advantage. If I meet someone with bigger guns and better skills then the G15 wont save me.. :)
Would be nice to have extra features though. To those without the KB who say it aint fair, theres new hardware coming into the PC/Games market everyday, You cant stop us. You'll probably eventually join us. Everything moves on.

I guess I really don't understand how this got to 10 pages. I don't see the advantage in the feature requests here.
Can someone please explain? Why would take your eyes off the monitor to look at the keyboard for information that is available on the monitor?
The info that people are requesting is already available in a much more user friendly manner than a simple LCD screen.
Also people are asking for much more information than the screen can display. Are you saying you want to take your eyes off the monitor watch the screen cycle until the info you want appears rather than simply looking at the monitor where the info is immediately available?

Can someone please explain? Why would take your eyes off the monitor to look at the keyboard for information that is available on the monitor?
Although the information is (of course) available through the game client getting it tends to interrupt what you're doing.
If I'm running a mission or working the market and suddenly wonder what skill I'm training and when it completes I only have to look down at the G15 for a while. Even better it cycles through all accounts so I can even find out the situation for chars that are off-line.
My G15 also provides information about TS and Vent.
None of this is 'must have' but it's more convenient and in the case of skill training of off-line chars is very sweet.

So to avoid disrupting your mission and/or market work you stop paying attention to your mission and market work and then wait for the screen to cycle to the info you want. Isn't that the exact definition of an interruption?

I had a look at gizmod - it would take quite a lot of work to get that working - its mainly intended for using any device to control any ap.. rather than any app to control any device.. although it could do that with some shoe-horning.
It would be a much more elegant solution if eve supported the g15 directly... come on CCP.. if 'evemon' can do it..

Evemon uses the lcd screen, and with the pres of a button you can view progrss of skills, but things like knowing what system you are in and wallet size are pretty much useless, what would be the point of using a monitor. there is also a tool for team speak and ventrilo, the mods are allready out there out there

That would be nice, I use a G15 Myself. Although I think CCP has a lot more on there plate to be able to handle this, There is a possibility that a third party could code something to work with eve-mon and such for skills , but that's about it without voiding the TOS.

Me want so badly!
I just recently lost the ability to use my keyboard draw and finally can get my LCD screen out from under there. along with my flatscreen moninture upgrade I can now use my g15 more proper like.
Please for the love of all that is infinite!
Support the G15 so i can actually being to fully use it for things other than just making my self look cooler.

I have to say - the op is onto something.
I've got one of these beasties too and would love to see G15 lcd support opened up on EVE.
I could then watch my shield and armor go down in style LOL.

I'd rather use it for vent than eve so I know who is talking and who is coming online of going offline. Now if they would take that idea and do the same for eve voice that would be cool. The screen is so small though that I can't really see what else you could use it for that the gui doesn't already have.

Well in the meantime Evemon got this type of support already. If you set it up to use the API you even can follow your characters skill progression out of the game while doing something else.
But a directly support of the G15 wouldn't be to bad

Although what to have it display ? most info is already available on screen.. Maybe have the Chat channels moved to G15 when minimised from the main screen (less clutter).. or How about some of the bracket settings activate on there (you only wanna see frigs but don't wanna change ur O/V type of scenario)?
I'm not a programmer (although understand the fundamentals), I'm a fix ur PC when it's broke type of person

I was just about to make a thread on this. I love my G15 and it would be nothing short of awesome to have official support for it! We should ask in a live dev blog suggestions thread or mail CCP and politely beg them to make an app for it. The more we ask, the more likely it will appear on CCP's radar!

Also, its the 4th Novemeber 2008, and the patch I just installed seems to be playing havoc with my macros keys for firing all mods, fittings and other little things. They just dont work even after making them all again. Seems like the client cant recognise these button pushes anymore.

One of the features I enjoy about my G15 is that I can see a quick overview of what I'm doing without breaking my screen saver. Other MMORPGs are supporting it, and I don't think it's a function that would require constant maintenance.
Imagine a "Current Overview", "Drone Target", "Cargo Load" or other indicators which could be made available to the player, or a series of indicators which indicate your cap/charge rate, shield/charge rate, armor amount and hull amount.

Its very, very hard to make it work like you little kids want it to work. Face the fact that you can't get everything and complain if you can't get it at all at ones.
Each time your computer gets data, and puts it in your little fail screen (comon seriously ? You cant just look down on the screen ?? Do you have to look all the way down on your keyboard instead of just open EVEMon?) it leaks memory.. therefor lagging everything else. And when that happens, you'll make 10000000000 threads about 'WAHHH G15 SCREEN IS LAGGING MY COMPUTER'.

Ridiculous! What purpose does relocating standard information such as shield and armor to the keyboard do for you? It will always be displayed in a much more convenient area on the screen. I personally own the G15 and it is what I am typing on atm. This thread just looks like a bunch of G15 owners who are trying to find just one more way to link their gaming experience to the board. In this case, while this may not be so in other games, the UI is fine on the screen. A better use of that G15 lcd would be the current time and computer performance information (cpu load, mem load, temps, etc.) Let CCP focus on more important things such as game development.
That's just my 2 isk, have at me!

man, sorry but am going to troll i held itin since the g15 came out, logitech gaming keyboard are useless and crap its like saying go play wow O.o want a real keyboard get a razor lycosa and use a 3 monitor setup with a th2go then you can pump way more information then a calulator size lcd screen made by a companie that does not even make one decent driver

I just got myself G15 and like Ihara Rika said I really don't see the use for G15 support in EVE. I rather use the screen to see info from Teamspeak and Foobar2000 without the need to alt-tab outside of game.

Ok I have to say... if I'm playing Eve, why would I want to look DOWN at a tiny little screen on my keyboard to tell me what me 36 in monitor is already telling me? (OK I use a 19 inch, but I bet half of you have 36 or bigger)

I dont really want ship info though, since others have already pointed out that is pretty much perfectly done on screen. However wallet information, buy/sell info etc could really help out. When i am doing other stuff and see the wallet flash I could just look down at my keyboard for a second and see what I just sold or bought for example. I think it would be nice if we would see that kind of support for the keyboard.

Some people like to play with a cleaner HUD when possible. I myself use my G13 in this manner in most FPS's, moving the ammo counts and statistical information and such down to the LCD.
That, or people jam the hud with so much they'd like to move some of it to another device. It's never purely "have the information in 2 places at the same time", that's just redundant.

Ive kind of abandoned the project though so i cant guarantee that it works anymore.. but the source code is there if you wanna play around with it..
