I've updated the old EVEMon site and the old patch.xml to point to the new versions, so hopefully the problem of people running the old, ancient, broken EVEMon versions should no longer be an issue.

As I understand it EVE mon helps you plan towards certain advanced skills. Is that correct?
Do you somehow input a set of skills you would like to acquire in the future and it plans out the shortest route for you.
I have downloaded EVEmon and inputted my char but (and I feel rather stupid for saying this ) I don't know where I go next. How do you go about mapping your skills?

Originally by: Kua I'm new to EVE and hence new to skill planners. As I understand it if I put in a series of skills I want to learn then EVEmon will optimise the order and suggest adding learning skills which will shorten the time if appropriate. What is the best way to use it. From looking around in this forum and elswhere I am pretty sure I want to get lvl5 basic and lvl4 advanced learning skills. Should I just put them all in the planner? Or would it be better to work out some sort of long term plan and allow the program to consider what series of learning skills will shorten the overall learning time?
First of all, the time it takes to learn skills is only based on your attributes. This means that it doesn't really matter in what order you train them if you're only interested in optimizing time.
The only exception to this is the learning skills. Training learning skills affect your attributes, and thus affects the time it takes to learn new skills, including other learning skills. So here the order actually does affect the time it takes.
Of course, you might also want to optimize your plan(s) so that you reach certain goals before you start working on other goals, like learning the skills needed to fly interceptors really well before you start working on the battleship skills. This is where EVEMon really shines (and it will shine even brighter in this area after the next update).
One feature that EVEMon has is that it suggests what learning skills you can train, if any, to reduce the time it takes to train the current plan. However, since it takes time to learn learning skills, these suggestions rarely suggest higher learning skill levels than the basic lvl3's (unless you have a really big plan). And if you plan to stick around for a while, it really pays off to train the learning skills to advanced lvl 4, and the skill Learning itself to lvl 4 as fast as possible (but, as some people will no doubt tell you shortly, remember to train some skills that allows you to have fun too).
In case you decide that you do want to train the learning skills to advanced lvl 4, a simple way to find out the optimal way (or at least very close to optimal) to train them would be to simply put them all into the EVEMon skill planner, and then sort them with "Fastest Skill First". If you have "Move learning skills to front of plan", EVEMon will automatically sort them in the order it believes to be optimal.
(At the moment there is a small bug in the ordering of the learning skills. Analytical Mind 5 and Instant Recall 5 is placed too early in the plan; it should now be trained after their advanced counterparts have been trained to level 4. A bug report have been filed and it will hopefully be fixed before the next stable release.)

Edited by: Kua Mortal on 05/01/2007 21:23:33 I'm finding EVEmon very useful but have a query. Is it unable to obtain my attribute enhancers from the game? The attribute levels in EVEmon include those obtained from skills but not from attribute enhancers. Also the plan does not take them into consideration. However, strangely the countdown for the current skill is accurate.
In the planner I am able to see what affect enhancers would have on the overall skill time but I can't make them permanent :(.

Click "More" and select "Manual Implants", then enter your implants.
We used to have this information, but the character sheet format we get from CCP changed a little bit. The process for entering your implants could be simpler, we're working on that. ------ {o,o} (__(| -"-"- EVEMon - The open source Jamaican wiseman. |

Love the prog!
However, I've noticed that when planning something large, say every race cap ship.. and it suggests learning skills... if i move the learning skills around (one on top of the other for instance) i can get reduced skill time in total than what evemon says.... am i the only one that has seen this? ----------------------------------------

You may wish to try sorting by fastest skills first.
Also, the learning suggestion tool doesn't yet understand that adv learning skills only require basic learning skills to 4, not 5. ------ {o,o} (__(| -"-"- EVEMon - The open source Jamaican wiseman. |

I knew you weren't legit. Several of mah alliance m8's just got ISK stolen AND reimbursed (so they weren't suspected of suspicious activity!)
The only thing they had in common... EVEMon. Please note, some of these were CEO's, and the other CEO's that didn't get hacked DIDN'T have EVEMon...

I've come across a little bug, whenever I click on 'command processor I' in the item browser, EVEmon encounters an error has to close.

Can we get some kind of response to this please?! I started using this program a couple of days ago, and it does seem really useful, but the one issue I had was trusting it with my username / password. I, like others, trusted it (cautiously) based on the fact that the thread had been stickied. But reading posts like the above do not inspire confidence...
Also, I've been through this thread and couldnt see a mention of this, but where do CCP stand on this app? Clearly, its open source and not officially endorsed, but I'd like to hear their view on using it. |

Evemon works fine without entering the username/password. Just import the .xml and enter the skills you want manually, I'm happy with what it gets me as smost of the skills I am training are very long.

This is the second I've heard of this, the first was yesterday. EVEMon is open source - I encourage anyone who suspects there may be problems, or who thinks that their stuff has been stolen by someone associated with the EVEMon team, to look at our sourcecode and find the part where we steal your password.
I routinely look through contributions by other users as they come in, trying to find nefarious code, but I suppose it's possible that someone slipped something in. The fact that the number of actual contributors is very low and the source is freely available makes this possibility vanishingly small, but it exists.
I'd be interested to know first of all where these people who were allegedly compromised by EVEMon downloaded the tool and what version of the tool they were using. I also encourage users to remember that your password is encrypted, but anyone with knowledge of the EVEMon source code COULD retrieve your password IF your settings.xml file were compromised. Our encryption protects the program only from casual inspection, retrieving someone's password from their settings.xml file is relatively trivial for someone who knows what they are doing.
Concerning this incident, since the only information that I have is rumor and hearsay, I can do nothing but dismiss it. Let me return to my mantra on the matter of usernames and passwords:
We don't want your username and password. We can't get it. It is never transmitted to us in any way, shape, or form. If you don't trust us by now, you never will, and nothing I say will change that. You're welcome to compile EVEMon yourself if you don't trust the versions that I compile and make available on evemon.battleclinic.com. Furthermore, you can always use your downloaded character xml directly, as previous posters have suggested.
It's always this same issue, and it's not going away any time soon. Trust us or don't trust us, it's up to you. ------ {o,o} (__(| -"-"- EVEMon - The open source Jamaican wiseman. |

Ive been using Evemon for many months now. It auto-uploads my XML file and I've never had a problem with Evemon or it's associated myths. The people that consistently work on this program do so of their own free will (without pay) and are a great bunch of people. I would recommend the use of Evemon to anyone. It's Helpful, easy to use and SAFE!

i agree , been using it for just under a year and befor it moved over to battleclinic.com i have put in my acount details for both my acounts and had no problems, why is it though that when ever there is a worry about evemon, it seems to be a third party sorty froma friend of a friend and we never see these people smacking / flaming / complaning on the battleclinic forums were at the end of the day the people who make this are more than happy to answer any questions and do. not gona go into the whole open scource thing as we all know how as safe as houses it is esp since any changes are logged with a name ect

This is completely false. As mentioned by others, the fact that EVEMon is open source prevents this from being an issue - anyone can look and see that there is no code that steals a password, and it stays that way. Only closed source tools have a high risk of stealing your login info, so if you used anything at all besides EVEMon, those tools are the ones that are more likely to have stolen it, if anything.

In light of recent stories circulating regarding EVEMon I have simply this to say.
If you got your software/code from somewhere other than http://evemon.battleclinic.com/ then I have little sympathy for you. If you must use a modified version of EVEMon, then
a) you do so at your own risk. b) get them to supply a patch against the current code base and compile the code yourself after checking the patch code. c) at your own risk, get someone who you trust implicitly with anything you own to check the code for you.
Never ever ever, simply accept a piece of software from someone who you don't know and refuses to let you see the source code for and then promptly type your username and password into, your just asking for Trouble.
That is the last time I intend to mention the subject.
