Quote: When EVE/node crashes you lose voice coms.
I personally dont want to hear gang members while the client is closed.
What are talking about login tactics? I dont think the player should have the option of closing the client and comms keep going. If the client drops there should be a sa***uard from not dropping your comms.
I think player talking should be in the title bar or something.
Is there going to be a block soo when you have comms opened you cant use your soundcard but for EVE. I hate to think that people would use vent TS and vivox all the same time.

It's in your shortcuts. I'm not sure in the new patch, but it was set as default to oem_3, I believe. It's about 1/3rd of the way down, called 'talk'. Also, we had to bind a key combination, rather than a single key. That was being fixed, but I don't know if it's done yet. ---

crap crap crap !!!! ? why would we pay for something that only works half as good as ventrillo (and 50% is being nice)It also wont work for any other games than eve. In my opinion this whole voice chat will be implemented several times, and every time the eve comunity will be hopefull but in the end disapointed. I think in the end CCP will give up on this option because it wont be used. Its just a fact of live a company that specializes in a certain thing and sells lots of that thing will be able to give a better price(ventrillo). This voice chat will only be used and purchased by a small minority of eve players and if CCP is depending on that money to suport that feature, I think it will just be a money pit for them and will die !
Nice try, But in the long run it wont work

Rest assured, VoIP will happen. No amount of forumwhining will stop it at this point. The one and only way for CCP to drop is if it proves to be completely non-profitable. Which I don't think it will. Given six months I bet we'll see alot of people using it, especially considering the gang/fleet overhaul. There are too many possibilities there in terms of fleet structures for it to be ignored. Granted, you can do the same thing with 'tiered' comms on TS/Ventrilo but nothing that will compare to the ease of doing it in the client.
VoIP is here to stay, like it or not.

Edit: what I'm most worried about is numbtards demanding to do ops with in-game voice. It's bad enough when they ask for ventrilo coms. - Am I in the coolest alliance or what? |

You're absolutely right... Voice Coms will be released in EVE... No matter what Mwahahahaha... *cough*
Yeah and about the unconstructive crap comments talking about how other programs have more features and how those programs are bug free... I'd bet you 5 bucks that at one point in time they didn't have all those features and they weren't so bug free... in fact I'm pretty sure that the time was called beta... or something like that...
None the less... out of all the people I hear complaining I don't hear any of them saying "I tried it AND it doesn't look to have ANY promise." And the reason behind that is because built in voice coms have GREAT promise in the world of EVE.
How would you like to talk to the *greats* in EVE like Omber, Shikari, Hippoking, Chribba... and not just type to them but actually converse with them...
(Hey Chribba can I have your TS IP and Pass?) No more...
The reason speeches are read aloud and not passed out as pamphlets is because Speech is empowering...! When a sports team is losing (I like to imagine [American] Football but imagine whatever sport you like most) OK so whenever a sports team is losing... when halftime rolls around and they retire to the locker rooms what do they often get? A speech... An amazing uplifting speech... YOU CAN DO IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU! And with it integrated into EVE you could do just that... you could have the ability to give empowering speeches to anyone you wanted on a whim.
And how about this... GREAT IDEA... The next time the Devs do a Dev chat... in Jita or wherever... what-if they actually Spoke!... I was apart of Second life for a while and the Lindens (devs) would give like a weekly or monthly speech or something like that... and anyone with a Linden radio could listen to it... Crowds would gather round radios that were spread all over the world for like an hour every time there was a broadcast...
Speech is POWER... And that power is about to be seamlessly integrated into EVE.
Why don't you give it a shot? -NateÖ --- Still waiting for CCP to hire me...! They don't have a Dev named Nate yet... Their hire button must have lagged out... Don't worry... SoonÖ |

I'd agree, even though I don't have one and have no want or need to spend over $100 on a keyboard that lights up and tells me how much CPU I'm using...<-maybe I'm just jelous?
Anyways... here's another ignorant commeent by me! Again I'm not a programmer... BUT G15 programs are popping up all over the place... one would think that it wouldn't be too hard for eve to export streaming information from the game that could in turn be picked up by say... a G15...
And by the sound of it, it doesn't sound like something that would open up the client to vulnerabilities.../end ignorant comment.

If the client functions, and the voice chat doesn't, there will be a bit of upset from our commmunity.
That should be a cedega problem. Cuz its even possible to emulate TS with Cedega, so if it dosen't work, ask Transgaming ;)

The theory is that you'll pay for 1 voice account... you can use that voice account on any char and any account. And this is based on what is said in the OP.
Originally by: Gierling Every time I try to use it it keeps saying "Could not find an active voice chat account"
I'be been on and tried it aswell. This latest patch seems to have crippled many parts of the game including the voice chat. I'm hoping that there will be a new patch after today's DT. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I hope that you do get to try it before long.

Edited by: Nate D on 09/11/2006 08:40:40 Doing a quick google search I found this:
Originally by: "MMORPG.com" MMORPG.com: How can Vivox help players communicate when not in game? Are there ways players can get in touch prior to logging in and say organize a raid or something?
Monty Sharma [VIVOX]: Sure, imagine that your guild is about to plan a raid and you need to have an important strategy meeting, but you are stuck in your car commuting, or your corporation is under attack, and you need to get a message to all of the members whether they are in the game or not. You shouldn't be left out just because you are not running the game. We have a voice client that can be used when out of the game, which is great for staying in contact even when you can't log in to the game. It's got a lot of great features including one-on-one and group voice chat, the ability to see when your friends are online and in game, and links to other IM networks, so you can stay part of the raid planning even when you can't run the game itself.
The whole interview is located here.
So that kind of relates to the want for an external client that doesn't crash with EVE... An external client already exists but is it possible to have it "hook" into an eve account rather than the eve client hooking into the vivox account... And then could the EVE client recognize the existance of the vivox program and use it to do the whole integrated voice chat?
Obviously I lack key knowlege required to make myself sound like I know what I'm talking about... but still you get the point...

This is a great thing for thoose that like it but for thoose that don't or have another one already, it should be turn offable in the the game client, or seperate not integrated into the client. I don't like to get errors all the time that it cannot connect and another thing it tries to connect to my local network not the internet one (have two networkcards). Dissallowing the client to accept incomming connections in firewall breaks the game client it just freeze after logging in with a char. |

OK Here's the problem... I've writen it down as a bug: The first time that you log and join audio you must relog before your voice chat works.
More info: You will apear to have the talk bubble on you but you will not be able to hear anyone or talk.
Also we have a BUG FIX!!! That's right the bug where the online/offline buddy icon was overlapped by the mic icon is GONE! Pic5

Can you file this as a bug report? What chanel were you trying to join? (I'm guessing corp cause it's drawn focus) Did you do anything after you joined voice or did this error immediatly come up? (I'm guessing that it immediatly came up because chat is the next layer) Were there other member is the channel that you joined? (I'm guessing no because there doesn't appear to be any chat)
Using my asumptions I tried to reproduce this even with the corp info up and I could not.
I have no clue what that stuff is talking about but it looks like you might want to reinstall your test client.
If you can reproduce this with the log server going I'm sure it'd be of much help to CCP.

I think we might have a better perception of price after Fanfest.
However forum rumors suggest that the average price that people would be willing to pay for this service is $1 a month.

In-game voip stuff is always quite a tricky issue.
- Issues with most in-game voip apps:
People who would use voice chat mostly do so already. This has quite a few advantages with dedicated programs. You can structure them in your own view, with different groups, whispering, group-group talking and one of the most important ones: You don't have to be in game to talk with your m8s. And you can shut it down without shutting the game down.
I mean no matter how well it's coded, extra info = extra bandwith & extra load = possibility of client/server lag. And I suppose some will think any extra payment is too much.
Then there is the old 14y-old [insert personal tag here] that could join.. Or would they? If not you would need to make an extra pw-ed channel.. Very annoying. When using stand-alone progs you would always set it up for the friends, pw-ed and perhaps even with regged people..
- Pro's of the in-game voip apps:
You could join from game! This is quite an issue with a game like BF2142, where if you see your buddies online in game you need to alt-tab-ctd to get your TS/vent on. The quality is pretty much great these days, even with oceans in between. And everyone should use voip imho so more easy options is a good thing.
There are ofcourse quite a few other issues, but to me it would boil down to this:
I already use a stand-alone program .. And for several games. So I will be on voip anyways. I use the voip in a game like BF2(142) sometimes and then only because it is immediatly available. The setup for EvE right now is just not interesting enough for me. I tend to listen to music when playing EvE.. I already get annoyed at the loud sound effects sometimes (warp+camera reset = way to loud effects, fighting when enemy comes close to camera drone when firing is the same) and having people having discussions over voip could be horrible. EvE is also great for the old alt-tab (in fact i run it windowed in max fraps res) so I have no issues whatsoever with SA apps.
Still I hope it works well and I def hope there is no lag with the load increase.
ps: I kept getting errors for the voip on sisi yesterday, so I haven't tried the talkie bit yet
- All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me - Pure drone user... give us a mini carrier and faction Typhoon and Dominix please |

I cannot test Kali myself (this is trial account, and I'm planning on reactivating my accout around expansion), so I'll ask you guys. How exactly does this voice integration work? Are we able to join just one voice channel and listen or talk on this channel? Or we are able to join multiple voice chats, listen to every chat we joined and talk on selected channel. It would be awseome to be able to join multiple channels cause when in gang you could listen to fleet commander and also be able to contact your friends or talk in corp chat.
So whitch option does Vivox provide?

You can only listen to and talk on 1 channel at a time... What if you joined multiple channels and people were talking at the same time? idk how a system like that would work...
As far as listening to fleet commander... You have a few chats when in a squad/wing/fleet... you can join any of those channels... if you want to listen to the whole fleet... go into the fleet channel... or if your squad breaks away from the fleet got squad channel... ect...
