Windows Communication Foundation together with the new audio apis makes it trivial to build reliable and lagfree voice or video streaming functionality to any app through the peer 2 peer apis. Since you're already paying MS to get the DirectX 10 support, might as well use the other platform features. PS. It seems this built-in voice feature is why EVE crashes on Vista. Pretty incomprehensible it wasn't tested on even though it's already RTM.

I hope my corp and Alliance pick this up for some of these reasons. I hate having 15 in TS channel and only 10 in gang. I hate noobs logging in and asking noob questions while a fleet op is happening. I hate people talking about non gate camp issues in the TS channel. I want the ability to block TS members when on a op. I have heard this could also be our VOIP service outside of EVE. I like that idea alot. You can now be connected 24/7. You can get the EXACT same through a ventrillo or Teamspeak sever totaly free. (IIrc eve has 70,000 subscribers using TQ. I find it hard to see how 1 million dollars a month cannot pay for the server upkeep and other expenses)

But again... the money wouldn't be going to CCP anyways as the service will be provided by VIVOX... /me shrugs... I'd really like to come back to the subscription stuff after Fanfest. Yes that's what it would be. It would be an optional additional subscription. Sadly I didn't want to comment on this post because I have not educated myself in info on vista/DX10 due to lack of interest and too many rumors. Therefore I couldn't possibly intelligent answer to the top part of the post. But as far as the P.S. goes... Kali is currently in testing. Misunderstanding, what I meant was that it would seem the 3rd party company that built the core of this voice functionality might have not tested on Vista. I think it may very well concern this type of 3rd party voice support that's not done in the more safer interpreted Python.

Apparently the demo for it didn't work at all, and the speaker gave up on it, so no one got a good view of what it's like. (I almost want to say that this was probably from the bug where you have to restart the client before you can successfully join a voice channel) The price of the service WAS answered like I had hoped during the lecture. The cost will be $10 a year. unconfirmed $10 a year isn't bad at all if you ask me. And is less then the guesstimated amount of $1 a month. -NateÖ --- Still waiting for CCP to hire me...! According to Naphtalia of EMFI has said that this was discussed at fanfest... it is not on the drawing board but the community wants it and Vivox said that it's a good idea.
