Teamspeak overlay works almost exatly like frapz working with the DX engine and sticking the images over the game.
Aren't you still paying for the server though and the bandwidth? Yeah I could set up a server but I'm not sure my 3mbps DSL bandwidth could *reliably* support a 100+ Teamspeak/Ventrillo gang.
Hosting a TS server for 100+ people is pretty easy to be reliable. Firstly, since I am in the US, I have no limit and upload/downloading files or using programs. Secondly if I want to host a TS server I make sure that the Codec is down in the lower range such as Speedx 5.2 or GSM 5.1, although mostly speedx as not everyone has the GSM codec. |

Fix/move the who's talking indicator
Make it possible to adjust sounds independently. Most players run with sound off. I don't want to have to turn on the lag-inducing Eve sounds just to use chat.
If these suggestions were implemented, vivox would be a vastly preferable solution to using vent or TS. Also the ability to have teired gangs on voice comms will be a huge plus. You can do this with TS currently but i hate the sound quality on TS.
But yeah please please please remove any ability to have an open mike. Voice activation never works the way you want it to and i dont need to hear people heavy-breathing in my ear while im trying to pew-pew.
...?
1. The ability for an open mic was a bug and is now fixed.
2. I was told by the Dev responsible for developing the Voice stuff that he agreed that the talking indicator was hard to see and he'd like to see it more visable.
3. Voice sounds ARE independent from EVE sounds.
*4. Teired gangs voice comms do indeed exist in this integration.

Edited by: Ryo Jang on 22/11/2006 01:46:11 what i see wrong about charging for it, is that there will be those in an alliance that dont want to pay the extra, and those that do. so what does an alliance use, ventrilo or the IGVC? if it chooses ventrilo, then those that have paid for the IGVC dont get to use it. if it chooses the IGVC, much of their alliance will be without voice comms.
no sir, i dont like it.
edit: and it crashes my game, get rid of it.

I know that nobody wants to hear this, but... what a bunch of cheap cry-babies. CCP offers us a way to have far better voice, with more ingame features and people are mad because they have to pay like 80 cents a month for it. Teamspeak and Ventrillo quality has always been poor, and nobody can even make up their mind which ones to use. Everyone also seems to expect someone else to provide the service and often pay for it. Now it's time to pay your own way and you cry like babies. If the bugs get worked out, I think it's great. and whether you want to believe it or not... people will use it. and if you don't, then enjoy typing. I will be glad to finally drop the other programs off my computer. And I certainly wont be switching to ventrillo because a couple of people dont want to pay 80 cents. |

It¦s a quite easy decision:
TS: works, costs 0 (hosted by a corp member for 0) VIVOX: doesn¦t work, costs 10$/year
TS wins.

Personally, the cost is pretty trivial. I'll merrily pay for it, and I dare say quite a few people would be willing to. That is, if I get value for money (ie I can get it to work and there'll be people to talk to). To achieve this, there are significant technical and community issues that need to be at least examined, preferably overcome:
1) Quite a few people are having problems getting it to work at all. People running EVE under Windows 2000 appear to be completely out of luck because a Windows DLL lacks functionality compared to its counterpart in Windows XP.
2) Not everyone does want to pay for it, which will cause fragmentation of the community. Do Alliances force people to pay? On top of that, how is the charge to be levied? Separately? What about people who only use time cards to play, or have no credit card? Will they have a GTC-like option, or will they be forced to do without?
Revelations is only a few days away and so far there has been a disturbingly small amount said about Vivox by the devs, and almost nothing on the above issues - some of them quite significant. I'd rather see the feature pushed back to Kali 2 than have the problematic implementation we have now.

The open mic bugs are back with the new middle mouse button stuff.
Using the middle mouse button for a push to talk key creates an open mic. Also binding the talk key to Ctl-ctl makes it an open mic.
Added to OP.

Yeah the people with the open mics kinda sucked... I had tested the ways to make an open mic that were known before they put the middle mouse button talk in there and they had been fixed it seemed...
I don't believe it "died" I believe it was taken offline. Probably for 1 of 2 reasons: 1. It was running on a part of sisi and they disabled it to free up a bit more CPU for the fight. or 2. All the people with the open mics were making it VERY unpleasant.
I was disapointed with them for disabling the voice chat because I wished that people would have been able to see how lag free it is. I hope they fix the open mic stuff before the POS siege tomorrow! And maybe let us test the voice using the vivox servers!

1. No open mike 2. Add it to the regular subscription price so EVERYONE has it (would prefer it added without additional cost) 3. Send me ISK
Problem now is getting everyone to use the same voice program, or getting them to use it period, lots of non-tech peeps playing games now. Many corps already require you have TS or Vent.
Some people will never change from their free TS (me for example, hosted myself) unless all of Eve have access to this service because I can already talk to my corp.
All of the extra woop-tee-doo stuff others have mentioned doesn't mean anything unless everyone has it.

How do i turn off this voice chat login? I get a message every minutes or so, saying voice chat login failed. Rather annoying when i have no intention of logging in.

Everything about Voice comms seems to have been removed from Kali in the latest patch. The only thing that's left are the options to make shortcuts/key bindings.

Supposedly, only 1 voice account is needed for all your eve accounts. Unless you're asking HOW exactly it works, tying accounts

Okay, that would explain a bit. What I was wondering is: how does the voice client handle being logged in and in voice chat on two eve accounts at the same time. Anyone know? --- WTS: Forum Signatures, 30mil a piece. Evemail me!

First off I want to stress how valuable this integration of voice comms will be.
1) Security wont be an issue anymore
2) Those isolated voice application like Vent/TS have their own issues
3) To start with one I d love to have Vent implement a slap the person silly button as they go and say "Warp to me" or "I am under attack".
4) Conversely I love the fact that the integrated Eve voice client will show you who the Frek is talking.
5) The price is nearly unbelievable low. If you can afford to spend the subscription fee you should be able to cough up 80 cent per month more. Really - just buy that one chocolate bar less or lay off smoking ;P
6) The one thing Vent does NOT and hopefully Eve - VIVOX WILL HAVE is some calibration. Nothing as bad as having those daft people join voice chat with a Mic Boosted output. Ringing ears anyone ?
7) This feature should be able to have some customization eventually. Something like choosing between different voice emulations for those roleplayers and whether you want to keep the thing running as the Eve client is being closed.
Overall this feature is a very much wanted one and I can only fully cheer at its coming soon.

Edited by: Akira Miyamoto on 24/11/2006 18:59:29 Edited by: Akira Miyamoto on 24/11/2006 18:58:39 I can see real nice opportunities in the VIVOX implementation. I have some concerns though.
My microphone is always so darn low volume that for example Teamspeak is not an option to me because it does not offer the same kind of voice boost features which Ventrilo does. In addition to mic boost I need the ventrilo additional volume boost for others to hear me.
Does anyone know an alternative way to boost my microphone gain so I can use VIVOX correctly?

Do you have the Windows Mic boost on? Also in the Vivox audio config you have the option to turn on mic boost if it's supported by the driver (which it should be).

When you finally release this voice thing, please make sure that we have the option to select input/output devices for game sounds and voice chat independently including the ability to disable game sounds and voice chat independently of each other.
This is important for people with two soundcards, USB headsets etc.
