Invention was released 3 weeks ago.
The new hope.
Lots of people had pre brought the Encryption skills. Trained them, and held their breath.
What I thought Invention would bring to the table:
The average man, could attempt to produce Tech 2 Modules. The BPCs garnered from the process would be very inefficient, thus meaning the BPO owners markeu on thier produce would still be large, but with competition, the market would at last start to see some stabilising and the price fixing (or supply and deman) would start to be eased.
On the outset Invention looks like a risky business. With the datacores costing decent amounts of isk, meaning a fair investment into every potential invention attempt. That attempt may not yield a very good BPC, or a BPC at all. But at least it starts to offer corps the ability to produce thier own tech 2. The driver for all Eve life Risk vs Reward....
So tothe problems.
The Interfaces.
Well the BPCs are uber rare, with very few dropping. Having spoken to someone that has found 2 so far, the amount of hours he has put it is ridiculous. The drop rate needs an increase, and it needs to be also more commmon from low sec, not just alliance owned deep 0.0. But we are promised this is being addressed... roll on the next patch i guess.
But now to the current crux point. (have yo noticed we havent even reached the stage where we are building stuff and looking at invention as a process!)
Building the BPCs.
KIA has procurred several BPCs. And people are throwing these things at us, why? Because they are bloody impossible to build.
Let me show you the build reqs for the module BPC:
Armour blocks Perfect 20 Computer Chips Perfect 10 Electronic Link Perfect 160 Power Couplings Perfect 50 Spare Parts Perfect 100
350 Components! 350! to build 1 Interface! Sigh.... but it gets worse
The Ship BPC
Armour blocks Perfect 100 Computer Chips Perfect 50 Electronic Link Perfect 800 Power Couplings Perfect 250 Spare Parts Perfect 500
Holy mother of god on a toadstool... 1700!!!! components. (assuming perfect prod skills)
Each one of these components must be "harvested" from hackable cans in cosmos complexes. These cans resapwn, but at a pretty slow rate.
A team of 8 people working for 1 WEEK (8 hours a day)! would probably be able to build 1 of each of those interfaces, maybe......
Sooooo Interfaces are worth a week of work for 8 people? Hell no they aren't
That same week could produce 50 times the isk your gonna make with an interface... so where does that leave us?
It leaves us in a shallow pit, but with very very short legs.
I am sure CCP will address this issue, but I cannot see them lowering the reqs for the BPC prod, people that have already made the Interface from the BPC (anyone?) would be very hard done by if they did.... but they still should.
Invention as it stands, will be accessible ONLY to the very rich who can buy these Interfaces at the extreme price they will always be (they will not drop in price because of the effort involved in building one) or the very very dedicated.
The very very dedicated will be happy with things as they are, they will be involved in a very exclusive market, KIA are 1 of the very very rich, so we will be involved also.
But for me personally, I wanted to see invention be the common mans joy.
BPCS and Interface production shouldn't be the limiting factor, the Datacores are designed to do that. They are finite and as such will regulate BPC production.
I await CCPs comments on the build reqs.
Once we have the Interfaces, we can start testing Invention, and hopefully my next thread wont be "Invention:Waste of time and money"
(sorry if your tired of reading about this subject, but for me its not going away)

Edited by: Nero Scuro on 19/12/2006 12:02:47 T2 was never going to be the 'common mans joy'. This was simply another way for those who wanted to get into T2 production to do so with out;
a) using the fubard lottery
or
b) buying a BPO for many billions
And remember, interfaces never run out, so however long it takes they will be more common eventually. It's just a matter of time. Plus it's hardly difficult for an alliance to get an interface - using your math of 8 people working 8 hours a day for a week you could say that 16 people would get it done in half the time. 32 people in half the time again. Should be easy for any half-organised alliance to throw the man-power at it, and once you have the interface it'll never leave! ___

Eddz is quite correct. The other post is very correct too, be it very impolite.
I have no problem with invention having some kind of exclusivity. The problem is that atm it's too exclusive, only for the insanely rich. Second issue I have is that the feeling that was created before release of Kali was that it would be available for a wider mass, correcting some but not all of the prices on certain t2 items.
In this form it's not what was put on the table. -----------------------------------------------

Nice OP, must admit i was hoping it would be more do-able for the masses than it appears it will.
Originally by: Nero Scuro .....And remember, interfaces never run out, so however long it takes they will be more common eventually....
There could be a problem here thou, as it takes so much effort to get 1, then i can see it being possibly well over a year before the T2 (very rich) producers stop buying them..(indeed with the low drop rate they may continue to buy up the BPC's to keep on top of the market)....and they filter down to the majority to fight over.
I was looking at maybe 3-4 months before i could start inventing small amounts of 'cheap' stuff, but with things the way they are i'm looking at producing BPC's for others to invent with....but even here the market will be extremly small, if not non-existant, for months.
And hopefully CCP won't 'tweak' the drops so much (as they did with salvage) they swing invention into a 'everyone and his dog' profession (like ammo, again due to the drop rate)

Hmm, I've never had much interest in the T2 market, as it's basically an easy-mode, but the opportunity to screw with people by buying up the limited things required for invention and having a monopoly on them too would be fun ----------

Well written post, KIAEddz. Invention is quite disappointing in its current form.
With interfaces so rare and hard to find components for you get the same high threshold as for those who buy tech II bpo and get into the industry that way. If Invention created new things that werent available already, like tech 2 meta items, I think it would be worthwhile. Investing all this effort and isk for very dubious returns doesnt sound like a very alluring prospect.

It seems most corps with the sort of dedication\time\organisation to build these interfaces could simply apply themselves for a couple of weeks and buy a BPO or 2 anyway.
I don't see how it will help get smaller corps into T2 production or even make a dent in the T2 market at all.

The limiting factor isn't the man power, 8 men will be just about the max that can do it, there is only a finite amount of areas to hack the components from. My numbers assume you have a complete races Hackable Cosmos area to yourself.....

And here we have the real point.
KIA are only now involved in Invention because I have made it a personal goal to see this through, and my corp share in my personal goals.
For the amount of man hours we have sepnt exploring, and the amount we will have to spend creating the BPCS and investigating the Invention Process, we could of retired to 0.0 and mined 10's of billions in High End mins..... this is an exercise in financial loss to everyone involved in it right now. We have already thrown billions at it, we will undoubtedly throw many more before i can say we have invented something, here it is...

By making it tough (understatement) to break into invention you do only 2 things.
You kill the Datacore market. And you keep the prices of Tech 2 insanely high.
As you say, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but this isn't what Invention was touted to be.
To say ANYONE can invent, is simply not true. The limiting factors are huge. All your really gonna see is the big boys being involved, or more likely the BPO owners buying up Interfaces and letting them sit n rot....

We have searched far n wide for these. Over 1000 man hours went into Exploration last week alone, with no real returns. We have given into Buying them from people selling htem at extraordinary prices, or creating partnership deals with BPC owners for help with producing the Interfaces.
They need to be more accessible. Not 1 on every corner, but the drop rate and areas of dropping needs to be "tweaked"
CCP are looking at it apparently.

My point is that I don't think invention was intended as a shortcut to producing T2. It was just another way of getting into what is very much an 'end-game' area. T2 production should NEVER be easy, it would devalue T2 too much (with some notable exceptions that could use some devaluing, *cough* HACs and cloaks).
CCP saw it this way - people were whining because they wanted to produce T2 stuff. They had masses of RP building up but no way to use it except to hope to get lucky. Also if you wanted to start producing, just for example, Deimos' then you couldn't because no matter how much ISK you had nobody is selling the BPO. There are only a few T2 BPOs selling at any one time and people pretty much are forced to take what is on offer if they want in on T2 production.
CCP offer you an alternative. You can stick with the lottery, or with hoping that Deimos BPO turns up for sale and your pockets are deep enough, or you can put in a little (ok a lot) of hard work and nab yourself an interface. No dealing with a fickle lottery or an even more fickle WTS forum.
The interface is a neccessity because otherwise people would just start up research alts and rack in RP for datacores. The T2 market would crash.
I still think that invention was never intended as an easy means of getting into the T2 market, just another alternative. ___

It seems to me that they need to put components for the interfaces into the loot table for these exploration sites. As it stands now, CCP setup is going to lead to more farming of static complexes which seems to me be completely contradictory to the 'exploration' philosophy. I'm not saying remove them from COSMOS constellations but expand these parts to the exploration sites as well.
Anyway, keep it up KIAEddz! This is truly a service to the eve community. Besides the more you hunt for interfaces the less you hunt me.

No, invention, Aka, reverse engineering was so everybody could get into invention, to quote oveur (I don't know how many times I going to quote this to ppl get the picture) "Perhaps its about time T2 became the norm".
Most people can use a T2 item of some kind in eve. The first T2 item I could use was a T2 cap recharger, I was so excited... till I saw the price tag of 25-30mil.
The demand for T2 is way more than the current holders of the BPO's can supply at, hence the prices.
Invetion was suppose to mean that the average man, could get into T2, a now common market (as in most people are buying it) and a increased production and effort factor.
The current effort factor so far for KIA is 3 weeks... and nothing to show for it.
So far invention sucks balls.

I think this was mostly an issue of catastrophically bad expectation management.
Nobody complained that outposts or Titans were too expensive when they were introduced. Why? Because it was obvious that they were going to be expensive, things that a whole alliance could benefit from, that would require a huge investment and provide permanent benefits.
People believed that Invention was going to be widely available to the individual researcher, and nobody stepped in to correct this. That's the root of the problem. As it is, it looks like in a few months you might be able to get a module data interface for about the cost of a large POS, which isn't totally unattainable but still far from the common pilot.
Note that, because there were no interfaces on the test server, Invention is untested...

Why would they make T2 production something the average player could do? That'd totally devalue it. Skillpoints would suddenly become the be all and end all of PvP, because with the exception of faction gear everyone could always afford to use the best equipment all the time.
As it stands, putting in training time into using T2 stuff isn't enough. You have to have the guts to use something you could lose. Make T2 cheap and watch as everyone flys command ships everywhere and anyone who hasn't trained up to fly them - tough. You're just forced to wait as a newb until you can fly them. And that really would suck balls.

Are you functionally retarded? This thread is not about how it's a bit hard and unpleasant to get into T2 production via invention, this is about how it's finanically completely unviable to do so at all. And no, even if the datainterfaces were easily produceable then T2 would still cost many times more than T1 most of the time simply because T2 is expensive and time consuming to make thanks to the materials needed.
To whoever said Nero has a T2 bpo then I can tell you, he does not. He also does not have any idea what he's talking about.

Fair enough... does it change anything?
Devs have been known to say one thing, but do completely different, just because one guy said that, it doesn't make it fact. If they wanted the average man doing invention they wouldn't have made this huge process you have to go through to get started, obviously they want invention to be difficult.
Difficult I can handle, I firmly believe T2 should be about effort, but can you honestly say its worth the effort.
Invention was suppose to be so people that want to work for it, can get into T2. This was the grip ppl had with T2. The poeple that dominate the market generally didn't work for it (okay, some did by buying the BPO's from people that didn't work for it, but there are only so many you can buy before the price is unobtainable by one man.)
Invention is suppose to help people get into the T2 market by working for it, which I'm all for, but it shouldn't be a 8 week process to create your first BPC, you also shouldn't need 20 ppl to help you. Perhaps 1 or 2, but the amount of people KIA have working on it is a bit stupid.

This whole invention thing borders on ridiculous. I'm not sure why they spent time and effort to create something so awful. Whoever said in an earlier thread that they should have simply let people trade RP in for limited run T2 BPC's hit the nail on the head. They could adjust the cost of the BPC's to keep T2 items at a premium. Instead they come up with this "Rube Goldberg" scheme which at the moment is virtually unworkable.
I imagine they will eventually tweak invention to make it better but right now I feel bad about the extra training and BPO research that I did in preparation for Invention. Even with 25 million skill points, and 3B ISK, and many other resources, invention appears completely out of reach to me right now. I too had hopes that while difficult, invention would still make at least a tiny bit of T2 manufacturing available to me. Any fair reading of the dev posts prior to the Revelations patch would support that idea. The end result, however, does not.

If they didn't want invention to be possible for the "average" person, then why, oh why, did they tout it as an alternative to the lottery for people who have invested time and isk in R&D agents?
As it stands now, it isn't difficult for the average person, it is impossible, still leaving any chance of making T2 items to the very rich and those with large groups backing them rather allowing any access to small time producers and researchers.

To make it easier to understand.
I can
A). Spend a week ratting/mission running/whatever and buy a T2 setup for my megathron + spares.
B) At the current rate things are looking, spend 8-16 weeks inventin a T2 setup for my megathron + spares.
That is very stupid and makes it totally worthless.

Originally by: Vasiliyan I think this was mostly an issue of catastrophically bad expectation management.
This man gets a cookie.
Cos as it stands you only have to have guts to fly expensive stuff if you not in BoB/MC, cos they be flying 30m hacs and caring less of loosing it. How's that for fairness.
Tech 2 is only expensive if you not producing it. They can fly all the tech 2 stuff they want at prodution prices. so STFU already.

You are missing a very valid point.
producing Tech 2 via Invention, will be very very inefficient, meaning that it will still cost around 100 million for a Hac for example, in pure build costs. (we'll know more once we can test build lol)
The market bottom isnt going to "fall out" because of invention, but it will break the Tech 2 Owners hold over prices etc.

To start, I am not and Alt. Also, I want to go into invention to go into production to make isk, not an "i win button" for isk making, but a way to increase the value of my T1 commerce. This is for the benefit of people that beleive I want the opposite of the above. The devs did state that we would be getting Invention as a meyhod to go into T2 production for the masses, I read this as the dedicated industrialist/scientist players such as myself, as I;
A)Dont have the cash to build a Titan, let alone a HAC BPO B)Have 5 L4 R&D agents that do very little.
I am going to go exploring soon to get an interface, but the problem stands at this bottleneck, and it just isnt good enough. I specalised in industry to excell in industry.
My point is, I cant go into invention because I realise I have a better chance of nailing the BoB titan in my Ibis than finding the materials nessacary to build an interfacce and lay my hands on a bpc.
/Sighned, I cant say what needs changed, but that isnt what im employed to do. I make ships, thats what I do.

Yes I am trying to get into invention, or I wouldn't be posting in a topic that was discussing it, would I (although I personally want to invent T2 rigs, not ships).
Look at it this way - anything that is possible for an alliance to do is hard for an average corp. Anything that is possible for an average corp to do is easy for an alliance. CCP chose the former, not wanting EVE to be flooded with alliance-made interfaces and then potentially crashing the T2 market. Which would be bad.

From what I gather, there is a bottleneck on the bpc for the interfaces and the materials to build them. As op pointed out, it would take 8 hours a day for 6 people in a week to aquire the materials for one. This isnt to say more people=faster, that covers the entire games spawn rate of these componens. Whilst we see capital ships being introduced en masse, they are T1 and the price dosent go down, no matter how many are built.

PLease read this, its gonna save a LOT of pointless argument.
IF INTERFACES WERE PURCHASABLE ON THE MARKET, IT STILL WOULDNT CRASH THE TECH 2 MARKET!
Datacore supplies (the consumable) would see to this, and of course the fact that the modules made from the BPCs created would cost 5+ times the amount of isk to produce. They are the balancer, they are a finite supply, and as such they would restrict naturally the inventing industry. Interfaces just stop people getting involved at all.
Please read this and swallow it before replying.

AS he is 4 months old, perhaps he dosent know that people dedicated enough make 100M+Isk/Hour. These people are those that have T2 BPOs, which is our problem. The solution to the new peep, was invention, creating our own bpc of T2, which is virtualy impossible.

There are people out there who have been churning out RP with multiple accounts each with multiple RP agents for nearly 2 years now. If they thought they could turn that RP into T2 ships and modules with only a little effort (as would be the case without interfaces) they would, even if doing so at a reduced profit.
Even if it didn't crash the T2 market it would still make T2 production a no-brainer that everyone and his dog could do. Fly to Jita > buy components > get datacores > invent yourself up a BPC with little to no effort involved. What would be the point in specialising in T2 production if that were the case? ___

Construction is in reality a no brainer, thers just more of it in T2.

You can't just "get datacores", there is a limit on how much you can buy from a agent in 1 day. Add, to that 1 datacore costs 1500 RP from a agent and you need 16, equating to 24k RP to make 1 HAC BPC.
That 24k rp is more than a months worth. Now, thats alot of RP.
You were suppose to be able to get datacores from exploration too, but I think they are about as rare as the interfaces.

T1 is not end-game stuff. T2 is. Everything about T2 is more complicated, from needing moon miners to get advanced materials, to turning those advanced materials into construction components which are needed for the final T2 product. Why should invention be different? Although yes, it all is a no-brainer-just-more-of-it kind of situation I guess... ___

You dont even need miners, just buy off of market, my corp cant mine nearly enough o keep up with production, and I know of several corps that mine moons and sell reactions or whatever they called off market. 24k RP/ship? Excuse me but, what were they smoking at the time?, noones going to risk odds less than 50/50 for what you can only do less than 12 times a year per fully trained toon.

The problem is that we do not know if we will actually get a t2 bpc from a battleship bpc. Yes, the invention tab is there, but it is possible that you will put in your components, click on invent and get nothing other than an error message. We do not even if there are database placeholders (you know, empty slots) for tech 2 battleships yet.
To sum up: Just because it has an invention tab does not mean that you can invent it. If you want to waste the isk trying, please do. ----------------------------------

Then you must have the suckiest RP agent ever. I got my first RP agent on monday and have 700rp already. And I only have one. On average most people have 2 accounts, with a possible 4 agents on each one, each producing on average 100 rp (so that's 800 rp a day) if they only stick to level 3 agents and don't train their chosen field up past 3. That's enough for a datacore every 2 days. ___

ItÆs funny but when I brought up all of these problems a month ago in my post ôInvention is not an adequate substitute of Reverse Engineeringö it seemed to fall on deaf ears.
There are a few things that everyone needs to keep in mind.
1. EVE is a game and games are supposed to be fun for all, else why play.
2. In any game where there is an actually profession (Science/Engineering/Mfg) with work that profession should be fruitful. Because CCP decided to use Invention as a Judas Goat instead of making it a real attainable goal for the profession no player will ever be able to invent anything. Now before you go off in a tangent keep in mind two things; one, in every interview CCP did on RE and Rigs they said ôplayersö (singular) not an alliance or mega corp will be able to do it. Secondly, any SEM players should be able to invent by themselves in a reasonable time just as they can mine, research and build any other thing in the game, which is the point of the profession. There is no possible way that a player can ever invent under the current setup.
3. Why is everyone worried about the T2 market crashing? Even by CCPÆs own words the current T2 setup is borked. The cost of manufacturing T2 items, the raw materials, is all ready a limiting factor. Seriously, what would happen if CCP released all the T2 BPOs at 100% higher price than the T1 counterparts? Other than a few players, strike that û an insignificant amount of the player base loosing a cash cow what would it do to the game?
We are always being told that EVE is a PVP game and that we should all move down to low sec. Why donÆt people do that? Because the ships/rigs are too expensive to loose. Now if heaven forbid, all the items become easily replaceable then you would see more people fighting. Oh wait as one poster put it, they donÆt want every one to have T2 equipment because then the advantage is gone and you know you canÆt have equal (fair) fights because that would be bad.
CCP needs to can invention and the BP lottery, go back to RE so we can brand items and just release all the T2 BPOs so that all the professions can actually play on an equal footing in their profession.
EVE is a game, while it should require some work it should not require more time and labor ( 8 people OMG) than it would take to do the same thing in real life.
Seriously, in real life if you give me anything I, by myself, can reverse engineer it and will hand you a complete set of dwgs (acad) as well as models (3dsmax,autosolid) and a bound tech manual in under a month. The fact that it would take a mega corp working months to do the same thing in EVE is beyond stupid. Oh, if you give me bluelines (or a CAD file) of anything I can have a new prototype done in a day, your telling me that in the future they will not be able to match modern production, in a game?
Quote: Think about the people that did fight you fairly. Think.... that were honorable and helped you out in times of need. Those are the real heroes of EVE.
I wish I could fit all the Quote |

Originally by: KIAEddZ ...the amount of hours he has put it is ridiculous. The drop rate needs an increase, and it needs to be also more commmon from low sec, not just alliance owned deep 0.0....
Everywhere the same, a whine thread here, a whine thread there... you sound like we have invention for what? 3 years? no wait, it's more like, erm... 3 weeks... yeah, you heard right 3 WEEKS! (and only ONE week since we have Multispeccs and all ppl started to explore, cause before it was kinda useless) and you talk about droprate change and to rare and bla? Hell yeah, for Salvaged Materials, it was time to change the droprate cause the demand on those is WAY more than on Interfaces (they are going to be like daily Live utils, that get wasted ever second out there, just like any ship/weapon/round of ammo). But Interfaces, every damn corp out there needs only ONE in there whole life AND you get a TWO run BPC if you find one, so one for you, one for sale to make up the costs/time/effort put into finding it (or make a christmas gift out of it for some noobcorp).
More common in lowsec? c'mon, I hear ppl complaining about "how damn emtpy 0.0 space is" and "What lucky **** xxx is, cause he just found XXX but AGAIN in lowsec, not in 0.0", all day long so re-think that point to.
Next:
To much effort you say... so you think 1 Week with 8 dedicated ppl is to much to make a Interface that will then serve you the rest of your life, like an BPO (indeed, those Interfaces are like some T2 BPO, but they are unlimited, quite rare AT THE MOMENT, but still unlimited)? you better should start running lvl 4 missions or farm 3/10's for gistii stuff if you don't think this 1 week of effort isn't worth it then.
And with a Member count of 74 @ KIA there should always be some around that have some time here and there to get another 25 of this or 10 of that... Most of the time, you just need 4 ppl to gather that stuff, not even 8.
"BPCS and Interface production shouldn't be the limiting factor." they aren't cause they will never get used & so, the datacores are the limiting factor, just as it should be.
So to sum it up a bit. Just think of Data Interface = Tech 2 BPO
Even just raising the dropchance a 10% means there will be what? around 200 or even 500 more ppl in ONE YEAR that will have some Interfaces, that's up to 500 Corporations satisfied. Including the ones that found those without the drop increase it would get to some state where every corp out there from 2man to 2000man alliance will have a stock of Interfaces to survive the next Nuclear winter -> prices will drop on Interfaces, on T2 stuff, on everything -> no-one will be hapy with invention anymore, cause you can't make money out of it anymore / T2 BPO owners will complain that Invention totally busted there business in Eve -> ppl want s.th. new or start that whining in the forums again...
(So far I know of 25 Interface BPCs that have been found in this ONE WEEK... that's 1020 in total in ONE YEAR or 2080 Interfaces themself, so around 170 of each type of Interface. With every Corporation beeing in business with let's say 6 out of 12 different Interfaces you have supplied 350 Corporations out there that are able to build T2 Stuff via Invention. And ALL this calcs are based on the number of Explorer's currently out there, which is not high, but will raise in the Future when ppl get the hang of it. Raise the numbers even more and you will see that Invention WILL become common in the Future, it just isn't to be a "1 Month and everyone owns T2 Industry" type of thing.)
Oh, and Its not just for "The big ones". Every pilot in a frigate out there can risk something and scan around in lowsec (not even 0.0) and find a BPC for his corp, they aren't even heavily guarded, so it's just a problem of how much effort is put into it and PURE LUCK (but luck also applies to T2 lottery, so kinda same) Done. Now you can start flaming, trolling, whatever, I don't care.

You were suppose to be able to get datacores from exploration too, but I think they are about as rare as the interfaces.
Yes, but datacores are still essentially 'free'. It might limit the amount you can build each month but they don't deduct anything from your eventual earnings.
Well they do, cause time is money. Time doing nothing is money wasted. T2 BPO producers don't have this limitation, average joe does. So while T2 BPOs can produce as much as the BPO allows them to per hour, invention is bottle necked on the amount of RP you generate per day.
Lets try do a pro's vs con's or a just a look at the limitations on invention over a T2 BPO.
T2 BPO Pros: Unlimited production Little, to no effort Huge Profits
Cons Needs luck to get into, but once you are in, there are no con's
Invention Cons's Takes an undertermined about of effort to get a interface Limited production of BPC's due to limitation on datacores from agents ME & PE penalties on BPC's, potentially doubling or trippling production costs Subject to T2 BPO owners controlling the market (if the BPO owners drop the prices, you have to drop yours and you make less profit, they can supply more due to the fact that they aren't limited to poduction like you are). Finding datacores via exploration could potentially take up all your time, leave little time for other gameplay (they seem to be about as rare as interfaces when trying to land them via exploration).

People shouldn't NEED 2 accounts to play this game, more than 1 account shouldn NEVER be a prequisite to get into a niche of this game.

There is only "effort" involved if you get the stuff needed for production yourself ( solo, corp, alliance ), in which case Invention requires far more "effort" than T2 BPO production.
If it doesn't crash the market, there is no problem, since Invention produced items have a much higher production cost, it can't crash anything for BPO owners, only keep margins within reason.

Just to add - WE are trying to collect the parts for Interfaces, Skill packs and encryptors from the release of Revelation - Every day for a 3 weeks - 50 man hours per day - Yes we got the skills, yes we got the encriptors, NO we dont have even 10% of the comps for 1 interface.
Do you think that is normal 1000 man hours and you are not even close to build 1 interface. With the same dedication and time - some corps manage to build a Mothership. And even i`m not adding the time spent on exploration ( before multispec probes ) and the bugged encounter and so on and so on.
The time spent on this for us is a pure waste till this moment, but i`m backing up Eddz when we are out of contract we gonna continue to put our effort on this subject. -------------------------------------------

ZOMG! BPCs are less profitable than BPOs? What did you expect? That's exactly the same as T1 production, where the cost of the BPC is always going to cut into the profits of whatever you make (whereas the BPO won't after you pay for the inital investment).
I'm not saying that it couldn't do with a little tweaking, but it isn't as fubared as you're making out.

Very very true, and I only have 1 account myself, but that doesn't mean that when CCP balance the game they don't have to take into consideration how the majority of players play. And the majority have 2 accounts. ___

I don't think anyone is asking for invention to be easy. As it isto participate in T2 production in any way you have to have been very lucky or very rich. Folks who participated in the R&D scam had no way to participate in T2 production no matter how hard they worked, no matter what effort they put in. Now, invention was touted as a way to allow more players to access that aspect of the game. It's been shown that it's not accessible to any more people than before.
Ten 40 hour weeks to get a chance to have a chance at maybe getting a crappy BPC is NOT accessible to very many people no matter how much they want to participate.

You sir, have crossed the line of the hypothetical and that of sheer ignorance. We dont want to be uber, that would be grinding, what we want is our specalisation (industrialist here) to pay off by a game mechanic declared and half delivered by CCP unless they decide to show us an instruction manual declaring that we are doing this wrong. Like I have stated before, I dont want an I-win button for Isk, I want to be able to make more Isk than I currently do.

Ignorant.
Even free interfaces would still subject Invention T2 items to the mechanics of supply and demand for the resources required in production. Invention requires more resources and have limited runs.
BPOs on the other hand were given away, have lower production costs and unlimited runs.
Now go read your post again and tell us who's being more "WoWish" here?

Yes, the T2 BPO lottery is messed up. Majorly. T2 lottery winners need their BPOs turned into BPCs.
And the BPCs don't require 'much higher production costs', they loose some ME over properly researched BPOs. If you mean the cost of getting the BPC in the first place then I could argue that doesn't cost anything but time. Time you'll have to spare waiting for RP points to come in anyway. ___

I think this post has a lot of validity.
If anything, BPCs should have been available through the regular research agent lottery while BPOs should have been available through invention.
Look at the effort:payout ratio of each
BPO: Get R&D Agent, get lucky, research it to very nice ME/PE, get unlimited runs after training skills and getting build ingredients
BPC: Get R&D Agent, buy datacores with points, train encryptions skills, explore COSMOS areas and/or pay outrageous prices for the interfaces, get reports/data sheets, put BPC in for ATTEMPT at a limited run, random quality blueprint COPY. If successful you still need to find all the build ingredients, if the attempt fails you lose some of your items wasting more time, effort and ISK.
I'm sorry, I just don't see the relation of risk/effort to reward here.
I'll fully admit that my expectations were that the BPO Lotto was like a state lotto (ie 1:10,434,534 chance--small chance, HUGE payoff) while invention would be more like a scratch off ticket (much higher chance, much smaller payoff).
As it is from reading what everyone has been saying about it,a group like KIA would have been better to pool all those man hours into ratting/mining and just outright BUY a T2 BPO.
Surely that CANNOT be "as intended".. ----------

Math ftw.
1 person working 40 hours on something= 1 work time week 2 people TOGETHER, working concurrently (at the same time) for 40 hours on something= 2 work time weeks 3 people, TOGETHER, working concurrently for 40 hours on something= 3 work time weeks etc etc
So, yes, even though something may have only been out for 3 weeks it is entirely possible for many more 'man hours' have been devoted to it.. ----------

That's probably a very good thing. Others have posted FACTS or at least proofs backed up with math/reasoning. You've only tried to speculate that people can invent T2 battleships with no proof of any kind.
You also seem to think that LIMITED RUN BLUE PRINT COPIES should be harder to attain and cost more than UNLIMITED BLUE PRINT ORIGINALS. Seriously, that is what you are arguing. In the time the original poster's corp has spent on this endeavor they *easily* could have made enough money to just outright BUY a T2 BPO. And here's the BEST part (according to you) they're STILL not even close to *attempting* to make a T2 BPC through invention.

Edited by: KIAEddZ on 19/12/2006 16:32:26 I want the Tech 2 market to be open to everyone. I want Datacores to be the limiting factor, i want their supply and demand to determine the market fluctuations. I want to see the cost of Tech 2 items become reasonable, with maybe only 500% mark up not 1300%, i want to see the game become a true player powered game, not one based upon chance and luck. The "lottery" has too long already controlled what I can and cannot do, and I am one of the lucky ones with much ISK.
I want basically, what CCP promised, nothing more and nothing less.
The Drop rate is too small, and the rqs for the BPC build too large. Its a simple statement and a simple fix, lets hope CCP can see through the crap and look at those 2 basic points.

Eddz,
Thanks for these threads, I couldn't agree with you more. I am fairly new (4 months) in a small corp and Invention is pretty much impossible for me--while I could see spending the time and/or ISK to acquire the data interface BPC, the build requirements just floored me, especially since they are apparently primarily available in static, camped COSMOS space.
I have just set up my first couple R&D agents b/c as slim as the chances of winning the T2 lottery are, they are vastly superior to the chance that I will ever succeed in building something through Invention.
I really don't understand why CCP persists in making it almost impossible for anyone beginning the game in the last year or two (whenever the initial T2 lottery occurred) to participate in T2 production, and to make it possible for previous big-ticket T2 BPO winners to continue to dominate high-end production FOREVER by buying out new BPOs, data interfaces, and using their massive accumulated stock of RPs to win further BPOs or buy datacores...I really don't get it.
I think CCP had promised a dev blog about T2 issues some time ago--I for one would love to see them articulate what they are trying to achieve here.

QFT, the sad part is that this is what a lot of us that chose the SEM professions have been asking for the last 3 years.
No one has asked for an I-win or it to be easy, just that we are giving a chance to compete.
Remove luck and requiring more "man" hours than it would take in real life is all we ask. We are the scottys and jordies of the game, we should not have to take out a borg fleet to get 1 part to do our jobs nor should it require a fleet of our own.

I vote Eddz as president of the Invention lobby group
I agre 100% with you Eddz, the limiting factor should be mostly the data cores and getting the interfaces and decryptors should be some hurdles to get over, not a fricking mountain.
How many of the components to make interfaces have you found so far? And how many decryptors have you found?
We really don't know if the drop rate of this stuff or the building requirements are correct. No real answer from CCP about this yet.

Gotta agree with Eddz on this. Invention is seriously borked atm. I am not saying that I should be able to produce everything np, but as it stands it's almost impossible to invent realistically for anyone other than strictly personal use, and even then the bottlenecks mean that unless you are building HACs, you would be better off just earning isk to buy the mods you were trying to invent.

Invention is a farce.
CCP are overly concerned that the 'old' playerbase will have nothing to train for anymore/invest skills into and thus they create virtually impossible things.
This game was so much cooler when everyone used the same T1 items, or named variants. Yes, back then it was about skill. Now it is about your wallet (or your current affiliation so you can get T2 cheap)
I'm sorry for all the people that got their hopes up they could invent T2 stuff and have LIMITED BAD QUALITY bpc's (probably for personal use)
What a waste of resources, just imagine the time that went into coding and coming up with the idea of invention and how it is implemented. Would much rather have had those people working on ACTUAL issues. |

That's a one-time cost of 400-600 man hours though. Once you have the interface it aint going anywhere, and you can produce HACs, even if only at a rate of 2-4 a month, forever.

(not to mention 20 mil isk an hour IS AN INCREDIBLY LOW NUMBER) i would make 40 mil plus an hour just ratting in 0.0 with faction spawns included.

We have invested far more than 400-600 man hours till this moment. We are dont reasonable close to invent single t2 BPC (you know there is a chance for a failure).
IF we use Chance increasing Encryptor - we might succeed but proly with one or max 2 run LOW ME and PE BPC - this will increase the actual build cost of the item in time and resources. IF we use other - we might fail and loose datacores so this will add more to the actual succesfull invent t2 item price.
Anyway we will do this soon or later. It is time this monopoly to end. And we are all in to see this
@Phyrr - Keep your t2 BPO i hope someday you get rid of your selfishness. I have no doubt that you have t2 bpo. -------------------------------------------

I was looking forward to being able to give my members a couple T2 fittings next time we headed out and it not cost me my right arm. I don't even want to sell them or make isk with them. I just wanted to help out my corp and reward my members for the hard work they do.

Pro's You can say you produce T2
stop using common sense, its like kryptonite to t2 defenders.

Edited by: Krakkan on 19/12/2006 20:05:02 imo invention is fine, only thing needed is more hackers/explorers to get more datacores on the market thus lowering price the rest is fine i think, however to make a T2 rig the components are extremely rare, you basicly have to salvage dreads and capital ships to get them as far as i know... but thats anotehr thing.
Invention is fine, its not easy and wasnt supposed to be, but i believe everyone willing to risk can get a T2 BPC rewarding enough, i have almost got a T2 BPC from a rig and it IS not so hard as i thought it was going to be, then it depends on the item, to get T2 ammo BPCs might be to hard and get certain T2 ship BPCs might be to easy, but thats influebnsed by the market and thus not CCPs problem.
i am very happy to almost be able to make a T2 rig, so imo invention is a success! wheither items are hard to make or if the cores and needed invention stuff cost to mutch is based on the players, and ccp wont do wanything about it, so tell more ppl to hack and explore to get more cores and invention materials, same with salvaging, most ppl use it for their own rigs and dont sell it on the market, once the private rig building settles down prices will drop very nicely.
salvaging, and invention work perfectly and grts to CCP for giving us mroe tools
now im going to try some hacking and eploring stuff, but im sure they work great too and its nice to be able to do something new and fun(or boring grind ).
thx CCP, revelations was realy a great success, its up to the players to settle in so prices stabilize and that will be a couple of months at least.
all i need now is to kill some capital ships to get T2 rig components so i can make myself a T2 rig impossible but im sure i will figgure out how to get the components eventualy hehehe... wonder what a T2 rig would sell for on the market..
edit: i have yet to get a BPC, but its very close i can feel it lol..

TY for the costant updating Eddie. Depressing, but I have an hipothesis on what CCP project is:
It was said in Hammer blog, if I recall rightly:
T3 will be proced ONLY through invention.
So the inventions system in realty is set up to start T3, not to touch T2, even if for now T3 is not jet implemented.
As CCP probably feel that the T2 lottery was a fiasco has developed a work intensive system to produce the future T3 (if you have a T2 BPC it would be interesting to look if there is a option to invent on it).
The problem is that the system make a complete mokery of the idea of building T2 items with invention outside of powerful alliances controlling the right Cosmos complexes, reinforce the T2 BPO owners market stranglehold as they will be the only surce of T2 BPC (beside inventing a T1 BPC to T2 inefficent and then T3 very inefficent) and are the ones with the available isk to buy the interfaces and datacores to do the invention process to T3 themselves.
You can add that in some other blog was was said that "T2 rigs will be builded trough invention" (even if then some t2 BPC can be found in the explorations sites), so again we have a field where this overcomplicated system will have huge returns.
To reiterate my hipothesis, the system was build for the research of the BPO/BPC that will never be availables from the lottery system, all the others are something secondary, and so there was little thought of the fact that it will be impossible for people outside of the powerful alliances or the extemly rich to enter in the field of invention. Hope I am wrong but I think we will never see an increase in drops and/or reduction of requirements.
BTW: to some of the different remarks about balance and all: in differents blogs it was said that T2 is the benchmark for balancing. So as long as a huge percentage of the players as restricted access to T2, the game is automatically unbalanced respect to the aspectations of the Devs.

One other wrinkle... The amarr interfaces require Elemental Cruxes. The drop rate on these (pre-Kali) was ***insanely*** low. We were talking less than a 1 in 1000 chance of getting one. The interfaces require a hundred of these to build. Did CCP up the drop rate? If not, nobody is going to be inventing anything Amarr for quite some time.

To add to the above post (sometime writing in a language that isn't your native language is hard): I don't think that T3 will be available in the near future (1 year or less), I think CCp is extensiverly testing the T3 creationsystem on a huge tester base (all of EVE playerbase ) calling it "invention" and referring to T2.
If the system had bad results in testingm they will create a different system for T3.

That's enough for a datacore every 2 days.
just to get the number straight: a datacore cost 500 RP x the field multiplier, so a starship engineering cost 1.500, an electronical engineering 500.
And the RP you get are (your skill+agent skill)^2 * (1+agentnt true quality/100) so even with a "mithical" level 4 +20 (true +40) agent and skill 5 you get 113,4 before the field multipler , so a datacore every 4,4 days, or 82,7 datacores every year.
You can duble that vallue doing missions, but unless you have a sweatshop doing missions for research agents, and that will require a lot of time moving from one to another, as you cant make more than 1 research for character for agent, I dubt you can do mission for more than 1 ot at most 2 agents for character every day.

Eddz is right, it's just pure and simply broken.
When I heard about it, I was looking forward to perhaps putting in time and effort to get some ship bpc's via invention, thinking that at least even if it's incredibly ineffiecient, I've managed to do it for myself, and for the most part, it'll probably still be cheaper than market price.
T2 production is already limiting with most of the extra components are player made anyway (well, they are now thanks to the agents no longer giving out certain rewards), so there's supply and demand there (think back to the RAM issues of last year). Invention should put more limits on (which it does) and thats only getting a bpc before you move to production.
Rp for datacores is fine (maybe dropped a little down from 1500), that already adds an artifical limit to how much you can produce, the fact that you cant realistically get a data interface to even start is rediculous considering the limits on first getting a bpc then building from the damn thing.
Apart from my personal view that the agents should be helping to fix the t2 market by giving items/bpcs as rewards in the first place (like they do with Af's and inties already, maybe ccp can fix this when they give us the choice to choose our rewards with the LP we have), data interfaces should be much more accessable, possibly even finite in the amount of times they can be used, their components should at least be more widely available (hell, imo cosmos shouldnt even be involved at all) via exploration, or even tied into salvaging.
Considering that bpo holders will always have the upper hand on bpc producers for t2 items (no cost to get bpo, better me/pe and faster production *due not having to get materials for another bpc* = bigger profit margins), I dont see what the problem is with making invention accessable to more people.
And besides, more t2 production going on benefits the producers of the items needed for t2 production (ala, the pos owners), as it stands, that market is limited by the fact that only a certain amount of production can be going on at one time (thanks to there only being 20 bpo of each type and the time limits on each build *okay, more now due to reseed of everything*)
As it stands, I'll never ever produce anything from a t2 bpc unless my gal navy agent decides to give me an ares/ranis bpc to use.

You completely miss the point.
Invention is not for everyone because you need several specialized skilsl and equipment for it. This limits it.
The problem is that it is way way WAY more economical just to earn money "normally" and buy the t2 items than wasting isk, SP & effort into invention.
It's like deciding between:
Buying an new CPU for your PC for 50$
-or-
Paying 300$ for the manufactoring plans for that CPU (which are only licensed for *1* run), spending 200$ for the manufactoring equipment and then spending 1 month to learn how to use it

Invention is insane at this point. A total waste unless you actually play 24/7 and then it would still be a pain to get invention stuff started. What were they thinking? I expected easy to get into and hard to get a good bpc. Instead, we get almost impossible to get into and no clue on getting a decent bpc.

Most precise description I saw here
And yeah, don't think CCP saidd anything bout invention. Since I've been playing there were two powerfull lobbies, tech 2 lobby and inty lobby, and the first is the most powerfull of them all.
It's aknowledged since I've been playing that r&d is fubered, people been waiting for a fix on it. And that pre Hac's, commands, etc..
If I remember correctly prior to Shiva Tomb or Hammer talked about working on the subject and something like agent's giving offers to people doing missions, and we waited, we waited some more, it never saw daylight, actually it is what we know today as agent offers in regular agents. We waited some more, another big patch Kali, and there's more talk about this invention deal, and we wait, in one year from now they will come up with something to fix r&d again, and we will wait.
I think the only chance based thing in this game should be officer spawns and loot.

Okay to all the people who are saying they are going to invent t2 rigs/battleships. You can't period. You will never be able to. The items are not in game and wont be until the T2 BPO's are released into the lottery. The invention tab on the others is there as a place holder. Nothing more. The values probably don't even represent the true cost of invention as CCP haven't sat down and thought/discussed what it should cost to invent a t2 Battleship BPC.
Secondly, when they say higher build cost on the BPC. They mean the BPC has greater build requirements than an ME: 0 BPO. Hence the build cost of the invented BPC is much higher.
What this in the long run means is that an inventor will spend: ISK/Time to invent/find/buy an Interface. ISK/Time to buy/find/cash in lps to get data cores. ISK/Time to buy/copy a t1 BPC. ISK/Time to invent a t2 BPC.
At this point everything may fail and all that time and effort is actually lost. This is before they have even begun to build an item. For those of you who demand that invention be difficult. Could you please answer this very simple question: What else in Eve do you do, where the game mechanics will force you to loose everything you have started with, including time and effort, to reward you with nothing?

KiaEddz,
I understand that you have spent many hours and this is asking for something for nothing.
Could you detail how you are finding these cosmo's complexes? I.e Some tips. I've been using an alt to scan down low sec systems in placid and come up with nothing. So far I have dropped multiple probes in 10 systems.
Perhaps there is some trick and if more people are doing it and finding things. More of those components will make it onto the market for the interfaces to be built.

It's not too difficult: use Multispec probes to see if anything is in the system at all and then drop Quests of the right type at planets. Once you find a signature, move to the spot and use the qppropriate shorter ranged probes until you have a deviation small enough to warp to the actual spot.

QFT.
This overly complex mess needs a major fix, which will use up even more resources. Oh well, eventually we will hear something from CCP. Or not. I've been doing some math and I figure that with multiple corps working together, they can crank out maybe 2 data interfaces/week, especially if one is of the non-ship variety. As so many astute posters have mentioned, these are not used up. I further estimate that once 1000 or so data interfaces are available, the "average player" might at least be able to rent one for a short time. Thus, in only 10 years, invention will be quite viable! This is what I call long-term thinking.

Like i said, it's not built yet, but soon will be, will post the screenshot in a few more days. Also just remember, this is a ship interface, it uses 10x more components than a module one, if we were building a module one, we'd have enough materials already to build several of them.

Devs have been known to say one thing, but do completely different, just because one guy said that, it doesn't make it fact. If they wanted the average man doing invention they wouldn't have made this huge process you have to go through to get started, obviously they want invention to be difficult.
That's because CCP is, quite honestly a joke. Clearly they have some great game designers (hell from the feel of it a good number of the ideas in revelations came from the folks at WW). Then it comes to implementation. Designers come up with a good idea, programers Nerf if in the implementation / actual game play balancing stage.
CCP needs to get it together, or am I the only one who's noticed the 7000-8000 drop in average players online in the last week or so (I'll give that this could be holiday related).

Personnally, I am very disappointed with the invention system, I don't think the interface is necessary at all. Datacores & quality of the BPC would have put a natural out cap on any invention production + a floor in pricing (since you have to buy datacores for considerable amounts of isk).
I don't really understand why CCP is so cautious about giving the players something where actuall effort is rewarded, intead of pure luck.

Wrong about the cap, datacores are unlimited, there is no cap to them, same goes for bpcs, if that is all what was needed for invention then t2 would become very cheap very fast. Sure some of you might say that's a good thing, well when everyone is fully t2 fitted suddenly it all seems so pointless...
I know 4 per day is the limit btw, but thats 4 per agent, which is a lot.

The 4 per day has nothing to do with the cap. The limit of invention comes on the RP you earn per day. Yes, it's all fine and dandy when you have spend 3 years trying get into the T2 lottery and have 6 agents with 500k RP on each agent, but thats gonna last you about 2-3 months, then you are going to have to sit and wait for RP to generate like everyone else.

And gratz Lady Noir on building maybe the first Interface, KIA too will have our first ship and module Interfaces later this week, like you we are harvesting cosmos parts....
I AM ALL RIGHT JACK, isn't the subject of discussion.
The point is that the reqs make it insanely hard to do, and the amount of effort involved means that very very few people will ever get involved.

Thankz Eddz, good thread...
Eventually your work may pay off.
Important questions remain unansweared. 1) The BPCs for the interfaces come only from special exploration sites, which are mostly (exclusively?) found in 0.0 space. The parts for making them also drop at these sites, or are they found in the high sec COSMOS hacking complexes as well?
2) Is there a relationship between the research level/runs on the tech 1 BPC used for invention and the tech 2 BPC produced by a successful invention job? Or are these two completely unrelated? It would be interesting if you could shed a light on this and post the stats on the tech 1 BPC, which decryptor was used, and then stats (ME/PE/runs) of the invented tech 2 BPC.
If there is a relationship, then using a tech 1 BPC with high stats and max runs will be a prereqsite to profitable invention.

First off, nice thread (ignoring the off topic silly flame remarks is getting easier and easier these days).
Like I said before in the kali test thread, invention as it was back then and is right now is pathetic. They had a nice idea, they utterly messed up how they went about it. I still wish we could have just had reverser engineering like we talked about even as far back as beta. That way as a small corp, alliance or even just solo player you could do some nice t2 production.. but no, they wanted this to pave the way for tech 3.
Because let's not kid ourselves, the only reason to get into invention right now is to be prepared for tech 3 .. with the investment in manhours and isk and the #^%#&$&%#&$ way the devs tend to put everything into 0.0/low sec (offtopic: one day they wil go too far and all the carebears will leave... lets see the frelling pirates whine then) means a large group in this game who would like to get into exploration and R&D like this will just say screw it, let's learn how to fly a raven, spew cruises and do some lvl 4's.. it's faster, easier, safer and garanteed money...
I spent 3 months researching bpo's, making copies, training up the skills and switching R&D fields .. all for nothing .. Pathetic.
and as mentioned before .. the way to get an interface right now is having isk to burn.. like some of the t2 bpo owners have.. (because having 8 people donating all their ingame time to the hopes of finding a bpc and the stuff to build one, is really a cash thing too)
I don't believe invention will ever be usefull for tech 2 except for the rigs, they frelling should have read the invention sticky toptic in the test forum two weeks before deciding to give their idea of invention a try.
Very disappointing.
- All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me - Pure drone user... give us a mini carrier and faction Typhoon and Dominix please |

AFAIK lo-sec pays off equal to 0.0 or even better. And the parts are also avaiable at highsec cosmos complexes, yes.
But i just wanted to throw in some other point into this discussion that noone mentioned so far: You say, Interfaces are so damn hard to get & built, BUT did you think about the issue, what an Interface actually provides you with? "Yeah, it provides us the way to invent a Deimos at horrible ME/PE! Still it's just not worth it!" Wrong I say: It provides you with the way to invent ANY Tech2 module/ship/rig from it's category, so for exmaple with a Incognito Ship Data Interface, you are not just able to build a "Deimos" like a Deimos BPO Owner could, BUT you are also able to invent BPCs for ANY known T2 Ship out there from Gallente, think about that aspect to, when complaining that they are "way to rare" "way to expensive to build" "way to much man-hours needed".
As a T2 BPO Owner, you are limited to this one item you got your BPO for, but without a limit on the runs, cause it's an Original. Vice versa, you are limited at the runs, but have access to several items at once, with this one little Interface and can start your T2 Industry right from the beginning in multiple types of T2 Items.
Just some point to think about.
€dit: So Far (If I didnt miss s.th.) there are: 2 HACs 2 Commands 1 Covert-Ops 1 Stealth-Bomber 2 Recons 2 Transports 2 Interceptors 2 Assault-Frigates 1 Interdictor 1 Logistic Out there per Race.
So, when you need 1700 Parts for your Incognito Ship Data Interface And then get the Power to invent any of those 16 T2 Ships out there: It's 106 Parts / Shiptype. Still not worth it?

So?
Inventors will always stick to the ship that yields the highest profit, it does not matter if there is the additional possibility to make less money.
Caldari interfaces will be used to invent Cerberuses, Minmatar interfaces will make Vagabonds...

Amazing how with this feedback people still can say everything is fine with invention.
1000 hours of rat/mission/mining for skilled players at the minimun 20 billion isk. 10% of components for 1 interface.
Seems easier to build a Titan then get a ******* interface.

The man hours involved in Obtaining a Ship Interface, are idd about the same as the man hours required to build a Titan, if anything they are slightly in favour of the titan building lol... no joke ;(
Costs are of course very different.

What a load of rubbish, it does not take 1000 hours to get components for an interface, in 1000 hours you could get enough components for 20 ship interfaces, or 200 module or tuner interfaces.
You really should stop blowing things massively out of proportion thinking that the devs will read this and think, "OMG, really, it takes that long??? Quick, to the nerf mobile!" They know how long it really takes and how it really works, they designed it.
Infact it's thanks to a prime few candiates blowing everything massively out of proportion that's got people thinking invention is impossible in the first place, people believe what they read on the forums, people believe the worst, so they actually believe all this garbage about how building a titan is easier than building a data interface, or about how you need 10,000 hours to build a data interface, what a load of rubbish!

50 hours for ship, 5 for module. Suppose you could give or take some hours depending on how lucky you are with the drops, assuming you collect them at 100% effeciency, suppose it could even take up to 75 hours for ship.

Invention is new, and just like rigs, is crazy expensive. As people realize how much isk can be gotten almost free with a few research alts, you can expect Data core prices to drop. Also, as more interfaces are found/made, their prices are likely to drop. Afterall, each person only needs a few, so once the initial demand is met, the price will drop a ton. I expect it to take 6 months for invention to begin settling in. Rigs should settle in faster due to it being a simpler process. |

but however.. because it will be a permanent item i think it's still worth the effort
I mean.. as long as we don't know what kind of bpc you get (maybe a 10 run, me 40 deimos bpc if you're lucky) we can't really judge, can we?
thx @ kia for these informations.. looking forward for the first invented t2 bpcs :)

Your simply a noob with no clue, just like your sorry excuse for a merc corp. Two hackers who are good enough to get every hack can for 75 hours is how long it will take to build a ship interface, or 10 module interfaces. Once it's built it exists forever and can be used over and over, if you didn't think it was worth it then WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING IT?

Lady Noir, I'm still hoping for the pics of the tech 2 ship you been saying you will invent. Anyway, 75h hacking? Considering that at 30m per hour ratting you can make 2.25 bill in that time, it makes some expensive interface. And where do you find this stuff, I'm in 0.0 and it's scarce, yesterday took me like 5/6h to probe down a hacking base and kill the stuff afterwards and it yield nothing.
To DNighmare, Interfaces aren't the thing that bugs me atm, but datacores, I know you been getting some. Is the drop rate ok? Considering I don't wanna invent just Hacs, but also the modules that go with it, like BCU's II, etc. And I consider the rp price of them preposterous.

Sorry Noir, but KIAEddz is 100% conceptually correct.
Invention has been introduced as an alternative access path to low-quality (in terms of building efficiency) T2 production. As such, the most plausible course of action would be to offer such alternative to players who weren't blessed by T2 BPO seedings, and to players which don't rely on massive financial or corporate labor support.
Besides, EVE should not become a second job if you pretend that it is a game. It means that from a psychological perspective most players enjoying a balanced life have plenty other things to do than playing EVE all day long (unless you are unemployed, live on social benefits or are sick...).
In the past, my industrial alt has trained every possible encryption skill to lvl 4 or 5. Seeing how Invention has been implemented, what a waste of sp, time and isk.
Why ? Because I won't go hunt for ages first an interface, then the components to build it, to finally end with one expensive item (either in time spent or isk when purchasing it) that will allow me to MAYBE generate a T2 BPC with pathetic stats each time I use it.
And the dev who set the drop rate of these interfaces was probably on betablockers to even think that 4-5 drops per week could accomodate a gamer population of more than 30K accounts like we have now.
If nothing is done and Invention stays the way it is, the only ones who will be able to buy those interfaces are precisely those who don't need it to make isk. CCP's logic in all its glory

Oh wait, both numbers are totally random guesses, and neither of us could possibly know how many are really dropping, unless you quizzed every single player in eve and each of those players told you truthfully?

Don't try to play the smartass with me Noir. Actually, the only objective & publicly accesible data we may sample is the number of BPC's landing on sell forums and ingame contracts. Even taking a very conservative estimate of only 10% BPC's making their way on the market, the data suggests that your numbers are out of touch with the reality.
