Originally by: Antibac Double clicking on an object in space does not make you warp to it.
However, there is another little UI annoyance that could explain some of these cases. If you left-click in space, and your cursor is over an object (planet, station, etc), you get a little pop-up UI widget with buttons around the cursor that allow you to do things like warp to the object, approach it, etc. I'm sure you've all seen it. If you move the cursor over one of these buttons and release you will activate that action.
I have several times in the past tried to rotate my view slightly and ended up warping to an object by mistake because of this. It usually only happens when you left click within the disc of a moon, but for celestial bodies with rings, the area in space that activates this left click menu extends beyond the disc of the planet itself. You get a similar problem sometimes if you are close to stations.
So far, I have to say it's the most plausible explanation for a solo warp, especially if he was in ctrl-f9 and didn't have his HUD visible.
But it still doesn't explain why his whole fleet was warped there also... for this, unfortunetly, it still sounds like an inside job. ------------------------------------------------- I never wrote this -Eris

I clearly warped to an outpost (using the overview which didnt' have moons or planets on it) and came out of warp on top of an enemy pos at one of the moons in order of the friendly outpost's planet. It was very strange.

Very logical reasoning for this issue. But that can't be the case, as you were in some kind of Bob territory and as we all know, Bob has the ability to hack the game and destroy all eve.
I think I understand it now. Bob = devs = hackers = stone mason's = safespotbuster 2000 v2.3 users = templar knights = september 9/11 conspiritors = they killed Jesus!!

Well, this is funny indeed. Never had this happend to me but a very strange thing did occour 2 days ago. We went on a 4 man op in low sec and ended up jumping to 0.0. At the entry system we were engaged by a hostile blob. Our FC warped out to random location with the other 2 members and i went to scout the gate back to empire in my recon. The gate was clear so i told the FC he could warp to the gate. And so he does... but next thing i know they went to a diferent gate, jumped instantly only to realized they went deeper in 0.0. Were follwed and 2 of them killed. I was kinda upset with him for making that mistake, but at the same time finding hard to believe he would do such a thing. He's and experienced pilot. He says he has no clue of what happened... well this seems to fitt in the profile of this thread of unexplained warps. |

This might explain a bizarre situation on our side during a fight in 9CG.
We sent a fleet there to back up FIX about a week ago. We cynoed in some carriers next to a BoB POS. I -saw- them jump in less than 10km from me.
A few minutes later, one of the carrier pilots is screaming that somehow he's loaded next to a RAZOR (or IRON?) POS, he's been bubbled and is in structure. We had to go rescue it and it turned out to be the best fight of the whole night. Never did figure out how the hell he got over there though....

I haven't experienced this myself, but I just want to make a note.
The only people mentioning bob are members of bob or alts or bob friends. People are saying this has happened without any bob around.

I've experienced it as well. Several Times. One situation was very clear, and here's the facts:
1> We were gang warping from system to system. About 40 in gang.
2> I was Wing Commander. Our CEO was Fleet Commander.
3> We all jumped into system and aligned to next gate. Some time transpired - I did not double-click or iniatate any warp. Ship was at max speed and aligned to gate.
4> Fleet Commander warps all to next gate. We all get 'Following xxx into warp' message.
5> Everyone else goes to gate. I go to a moon.
6> Whole gang flames me for warping to wrong spot.
It does seem to be a bug, but a hard one to reproduce. The constant seems to be going to a Moon. Also a rather large number of reports that there is a POS at the Moon when you get there.

Might I suggest that you misclicked on the background while getting the prettiest angle for that necessary in the middle od a siege screenie? Somtimes with lag you can tell your computer that you click on a spot 2x but only in your mind click once or not notice any click at all.
Dunno know about the POS webbing you tho, only guns fucntion as they require no cpu when in reinforced.

I've had the warp "bug" happen to me about 5 times now & i have also experienced some thing slightly similar in normal space where my ship would change direction for no reason. There was one case when my AFK Armageddon parked right smack in the middle of a friendly POS some how managed to go from a dead stop to 400km out side the bubble heading to never never land at max speed. I was cleaning up at the time & walked passed the computer 3 times about 20-30 minutes in between. The first two times it was still parked there, but by the third time it had wandered off.
There's simply no way i had anything to do with that. The keyboard had not been touched for almost an hour & the mouse was in the charging cradle. After that i started logging off rather then leaving my ships AFK at a POS.

I'm fairly new to this game, this has happened twice to me in empire space, while flying my retriever while Mining. I was working on Veld for corp needs, when suddenlly: Warp drive to XXX moon 5. Huh? I suddenlly put a halt on it. I had to turn to align to it before I warped, so I had time to cancel. it wasn't even in the same direction I was facing! the second time, very similar, although I was AFK chatting, and knocking off a weakling rat with drones at the moment. Truly weird, and definitly seems like a bug. Another one bites the dust. |

Interesting Topic!
After reading it my view is this: Its more than meets teh eye.
First a question: Can you or can you not double click on an object to initiate warp to it? And if yes, what type of objects? All? Just moons? What?
I was under the impression that this function went away a long time ago? Or am I being a nooblet?
1. Some warps could be explained as misstakes; non-GUI and and having that mouse activated interface enabled for example.
2. Perhaps some spy's have done it
But, in general it feels very much like something is wrong. And it feels like there are two things wrong.
3. If you warp to a planet that has lots of moons and there are bubbles at the moons/POS's it feels quite possible that they would in some cases pull you to the moon instead. This sounds completely plausible to me considering that we have seen other things effect objects if they are close enough to the source; Deadspace close to star gates anyone?
That should be fairly easy to test though. 4. - Most are saying it happens when it lags - Its not only 0.0 and during big fights, empire reports too - It ranges from happening going solo as wells as in mid to large gangs - It feels like its too many ppl reporting this for it to be a freak thing
Overall I think its safe to say that it needs looking into.
Cheers, Lowa

I haven't been able to get a warp by doubble clicking on anything in the main view... Though, it may be a setting, such as 'left mouse button opens context menu' or whatever that does the difference... ---

my theory the very laggy server cause you to lag out and warp to the nearest celestial object <-- something like this sounds the most sensible you know how you gate warped 100,000km form stuff when you lag out something along those lines --------------------- Ex-benwallace :P I am back foo! |

Ok Now I am getting fed up. Today I heard of more **** in this way.
A corp mate of mine suddenly started to enter warp in his DREAD (without ISSUE WARP), and guess where he dropped out... a 30 BoB dread group and 120 Support.
CCP if you dont fix this you are GOING TO LOSE alot of players because atm you are FUC'ING up gameplay totaly this isnt even fun anymore. I can take my fully t2 fitted tempest with a ugly looking face it was insured I didnt loose that much but this is getting redicoluse.

Edited by: Tas Devil on 12/03/2007 22:54:43 This has happened and been documented by my gangs a number of times now...as always it will take a lot of *****ing at CCP and reporting it in numbers before they acknowledge it... for now be ready for... ''sorry our logs can't explain or don't document what you claim...good luck recovering''...
and yes its a post intended to be slightly cynical as the whole situation has been reported...but as always the GMs will assume we are idiots before acknowledging the facts... Tas

I've seen this as well, several times. A few times I put it up to user (me) error, where I end up warping to something other than what I had selected (best case in mind, I warp to a station, station is selected as my current item, I click warp to from the selected item panel, I end up at an asteroid belt with the station still selected). Usually it's to a random moon. But I've recently had one case where it was impossible to be a user error.
My friend and I were doing a mission, we had a 2nd client with a basilisk in the gang shield transfering me. At one point I noticed that the basilisk was gone, so I tell my friend. He was as suprised as me, because the character was still online but the window was minimized. Somehow the basilisk character, while minimized, had decided to warp to a random asteroid belt. Nobody else in the gang had received a gang warp or did anything strange.
There is definitely something strange going on.

I was in a gang when the fc warped us to a moon and for some unknown reason i ended up outside a station on my own facing a hostile arazu in my rupture, while the rest of the gang landed safely at the moon.
Its not an exploit just a problem with some coding that mixes up the warp to destination. I have found if your having lag Eve decides at random where you should be and it isn't alway where you want to be.

You can add me to the list as well. I was sat on a gate with the rest of my gang in the system next door. I am 0km from the star gate, i left click and hold on the star gate to get the options. Click on the "Jump" option and wtf i start warping to a moon. Thank god there was nothing there but this is becoming a fecking joke now that when you try and jump through a star gate u warp to a moon

Originally by: KIATolon CCP changed something a few patches ago regarding this, and I've done it loads of times (sometimes with gangs, sometimes on my own). I dont know how to reproduce it (and haven't tried) but it's always because I am accidently clicking a few times on a moon when I am moving the camera.
I noticed this happening to me a few times as well, and I have discovered the cause:
It usually happens when you try to pan the camera. You click and hold somewhere in space and start dragging the mouse in order to move the camera, instead you accidentally click on an object in space such as a moon (who's icons are not displayed in space by default) and then the context menu pops up (the circular one with the icons) and you release the mouse with the cursor over the warp to icon.
Since you are trying to pan the camera, when it won't move you release the mouse and try again quickly and without thinking about it, hence you never notice this context menu because it appears only for an instant.
Does anyone even use that crappy circular context menu? I find it highly annoying.

Good point, but the real question is: if you have disabled the Circular context menu can it still be accessed by "mistake" when in non-gui mode panning the camera...

I've had this happen to me a couple times too. Once in a decent sized gang, half of us warped to the gate, the other half ended up at some moon. Sometimes the problem is that u select a moon thats behind your overview but that wouldnt explain why half went to the gate and half a moon. happend a couple other times as well but i dont remeber them very well. Hmmm...I just realised that it could be this combined with the random loss of mousepress I get sometimes, though my mouse was starting to act up but i haven't noticed it outside of Eve... The thing is that it could be that you are panning, the mouse drops the pressed button releases and double clicks (this happens to me at intervals) thus warping you by you clicking the context-menu... Don't know if that makes any sense, not natice english and it's getting late... ---

Check your logs. They'll specify whether you were following a gangwarp ("Following <commander> in warp"), warped yourself (easy to do during a lagspike by clicking and holding while near a moon, as you are when you're near a conq./NPC station or at a gate with an associated moon, "Warping to Planet <x> Moon <y>"), or the victim of l33t devsploithax while e-warping (nothing in the log).
