I once had a 386 based computer, and I wanted to get a joy stick as I missed using joy sticks with the commodore 64. So I buy a Gravis joystick and it came with a DOS based game, "Raptor". On the joystick box there is screen shots from the game, and one was of the player creation screen, where someone was using the name "Hectic" as their call sign got their player. I adopted it for that game and have use it ever since.

Spontaneous consonant-vowel combination I made up for a book...tried to model my portrait off of the KOTOR char I first used the name on...didn't work too well but I like this guy better.
Paul Steelman, Itoshii Daishou, BDH Digit, AkutAq...all from the same book I'm writing. BDH Digit and AkutAq were trials that I decided not to continue.
Rend Khoss was one as well, but I...um...well I put him in the grinder. That's actually how I was inspired of his death in the book  he's an ******* don't worry about it.

My other character is also named after an even better known novel from the "hyperion" series.
My third main character is named loosely after another character from sf/fantasy fiction.
All in all, I read too much

when starting my toon i was looking for a name i looked in books around my desk and fell upon a SG-1 dvd from the box set i had i read the episode list and there the name was :)

Stakhanov is my net name for as long as I can remember. People have been mistaking me for a russian person for a while , but it's especially annoying to have my ransom convos answered in cyrillic letters

You really need a bigger image than that one to see the detail, though.
As for me, I was reading When We Were Orphans a few months before I started playing EVE, and the name seemed fairly fitting. He's British-Japanese; I'm British.

Not that hard to put together.

In FPS games I use "iCantAim."

My name from the only other MMO I'd ever seriously played didn't fit into this genre (superheroes may go into space once in a while, but they rarely live there) and I was stumped for a name. So I google for sci-fi name generators and stumbled on a klingon translator. Ran my real name through, removed the weird punctuation and Larg Kellein was born.

I've used this name for about 10 years.
Had a huge problem thinkin about a good name, so i went to an adult website and used the first firstname and first lastname (of the adult actresses) i saw on the page and put them together lol.

for those interested Lorelei is a german name, she was the mermaid on that rock out to sea that lured sailors to thier deaths lol there is a statue of her there now i believe.
