Just before I tried EVE, I downloaded "Second Life". You could pick any first name, but the last name had to be from a list. One of those was Paster. After creating "Chunky Paster" I tried my hand at EVE. The name was fresh in my mind, so Randy Paster was born. Also, I wanted a somewhat real name, 'cause "1337pwnzersupreme" doesn't really work for me.....

I also like dual names because its easier in the tongue and ear, people just call me Arx.
Although I wish I could change in this days, didnt even think at the time in the fact that ill 100% be seen in local whenever I enter a channel... Which sucks when you want to pirate

someone messaged me once and asked me if I was a fan of the wing commander games (which I am). I said yes, why. They said because Ralara is a class of battleship from the Kilrathi!

My general nickname i use in all other games & boards for many years is Precursors, but unfortunately Eve doesn't allow me to use my nick in the game
The Precursors are a vanished, ancient, superintelligent race from the Star Control games. They are known to have gained sentience before almost any race and further than all, including the Chenjesu or the Ur-Quan, and then vanished without a clue, presumed to have gone either to "some better place" or become extinct. They didn't clean up after themselves and their various, hyper-advanced artifacts (including the Ultron and the Sa-Matra) have been pivotal in the fates of the younger races. Precursor installations have been discovered in various quadrants of the universe, often with functioning equipment inside still intact, and it is one such installation which begets the beginning of the story of Star Control II, becoming activated by a group of Earthling scientists and assuming its role of creating a Precursor starship on the planet Unzervalt (also known as Vela II).
In Star Control 2, it is implied that the Precursors had assembled a series of sensor-defying "Rainbow Worlds" and used them to point the direction in which they had left.
In Star Control 3 it is revealed that to protect themselves from the Eternal Ones, a race that inefficiently consumed the energy of all sentient beings once an eon, the Precursors genetically modified themselves to mentally resemble the intelligence of a cow. They created mindless robots (the Daktaklakpak) to reverse the process after the Eternal Ones left. They also left huge caches of their technologies on planets in hopes other races could find how to defeat the Eternal Ones. During the last feeding, their robots malfunctioned, leaving them stranded at that intelligence level for thousands of years. Humans, forever searching for the Precursors but oblivious to their plight, along with many other races found the meat of the Precursors, called by them Ortogs (a 6 legged cow), more delicious than cow, and hence raised, domesticated, and consumed them in massive quantities. The process was able to be temporarily reversed on a single Precursor, giving this knowledge to a captain before it died, and though said to keep it a secret that the Ortogs were the Precursors, to stop the races from consuming the Ortogs.

I was studying Japaneses at uni when I started playing, so I took a Japaneses name which fitted with the setting of the game. Hoshi means "Star".

It's the name I used for my Guild Wars Warrior/Mesmer, which in turn is a variant of my username on the Retro Gamer magazine forums (Mr. Pointless), which in turn was spawned out of my beleif that we shouldn't waste our precious time trying to find an excuse for life, the universe and everything to exist, and spend it on enjoying that life instead.

I don't remember why I picked that name, but I do know its source:
In the Bible, Nachshon, son of Aminadav, was the leader of the tribe of Judah. I remember his name well because when I was translating that section for Bible class (I go to a Jewish high school) I discovered that 'Nachshon' means 'vanguard' - and when the Jews headed into Canaan, the tribe of Judah was the vanguard.
