I'll go first: I came up with my nickname because I always played as Masta Killa in Wu-Tang Shaolin Style when I was a kid Used it in a little game called Graal Online first, then it got stuck to me for the past 7 years or so.

When I started playin Eve back in 2004 I didnt know jack about how MMOGs worked and was on a trial so figured Id pick an 'expendable' name other than my main internet nym in case I screwed things up. Bogus is said internet nym, but that was taken so I went with Cpt Bogus instead for my combat alt (made like 5 months after I started b/c I got bored flying across the galaxy to build stuff or blow stuff up). My internet (stupid ISDN) was very unstable. Every second game I timed out. In MMOGs I choose more RP-oriented names. Usually along the lines of: Lanea, Lynea, Lynae, Ysira, Velina for female characters. Later, that name seemed to be used more often, so I changed it to 'H4wk' for the Battlefield series. Then I came to EvE.... and reversed 'H4wk'. I was playing tie fighter and fighting a squadron designated Rho and somehow Wild Rho came to mind, I liked the sound of it and have used it in any online game I play since.

Oddly enough, that was where I got my name from too. Actually I had the name Solaris, which I changed to Dark Black when I decided that being good in online games was for noobs and I wanted to be an evil PvPer. I think dark black was related to the equivalent of sec status in Graal - your name changed colour depending on how ebil you were. Dark red was the lowest (I think) and my guild at the time had an injoke that we'd be so evil we'd get a dark black security rating (hilarious, I know). Thus the name. I changed it to italian when I came to EVE to have a more roleplayerey name.

They are known to have gained sentience before almost any race and further than all, including the Chenjesu or the Ur-Quan, and then vanished without a clue, presumed to have gone either to "some better place" or become extinct. They didn't clean up after themselves and their various, hyper-advanced artifacts (including the Ultron and the Sa-Matra) have been pivotal in the fates of the younger races. Precursor installations have been discovered in various quadrants of the universe, often with functioning equipment inside still intact, and it is one such installation which begets the beginning of the story of Star Control II, becoming activated by a group of Earthling scientists and assuming its role of creating a Precursor starship on the planet Unzervalt (also known as Vela II). In Star Control 2, it is implied that the Precursors had assembled a series of sensor-defying "Rainbow Worlds" and used them to point the direction in which they had left. In Star Control 3 it is revealed that to protect themselves from the Eternal Ones, a race that inefficiently consumed the energy of all sentient beings once an eon, the Precursors genetically modified themselves to mentally resemble the intelligence of a cow. They created mindless robots (the Daktaklakpak) to reverse the process after the Eternal Ones left. They also left huge caches of their technologies on planets in hopes other races could find how to defeat the Eternal Ones. During the last feeding, their robots malfunctioned, leaving them stranded at that intelligence level for thousands of years. Humans, forever searching for the Precursors but oblivious to their plight, along with many other races found the meat of the Precursors, called by them Ortogs (a 6 legged cow), more delicious than cow, and hence raised, domesticated, and consumed them in massive quantities. The process was able to be temporarily reversed on a single Precursor, giving this knowledge to a captain before it died, and though said to keep it a secret that the Ortogs were the Precursors, to stop the races from consuming the Ortogs.

So I buy a Gravis joystick and it came with a DOS based game, "Raptor". On the joystick box there is screen shots from the game, and one was of the player creation screen, where someone was using the name "Hectic" as their call sign got their player. I also like mythological figures, and one of them is called 'Herne the Hunter' (from Robin Hood) so this in combination with the char from mechcommander gave me my nick. 3rd, when i started playing eve i didn't expect to play beyond the free 2 week trial so i was too lazy to come up with a decent name cuz i thought i wouldn't play for long anyways.. how wrong i was... 3+ years later and here i am.. a st00pid name and very hard to go unnoticed as most of the time it is the first name in any local list and trust me, this is not always a good thing. I wanted to have a female character though, and tried to think of what a futuristic counterpart of Napoleon would be like. I thought of a sophisticated person, and Jacqueline was one the more appealing names in the "common first name's in French." Also I can make an interesting story in the future about my character by using Bonaparte as the last name. Lastly, I inherited pwnage by having Napoleon's last name :P /sarcasm.
